Nice place to stay, not very cheap but for venice it still seems okay. breakfast in your room is nice, but: being served instant cappuccino in italy really was a big disappointment. we'd come back anyways, overall a positive hotel experience.

Just as many other Italian hotels, the rooms are tiny and tidy. Staff provides good service, however does not speak much english. Overall a good stay and competitive price as it is in Venice.

A small hotel with a continental breakfast served in your room. The welcome and owner and staff contact during the visit was excellent and could not have been bettered. Very convenient location for trains and boats. The area surrounding the hotel is away from the busy tourist areas and has a truly local atmosphere. Excellent reasonably priced restaurant near-by with local shops for everyday needs. A very enjoyable visit and we are looking forward to our next stay.

It will be your secondary alternative choice if you just plan to stay for a night. It wongag't be bad if you JUST SLEEP FOR A NIGHT and then wake up early and permantly check out very early next morning. And you can leave your luggage until the evening even after your check-out is made. The room I stayed was too small and the stairways to go up to the room was too tiny. Bathroom and toilet was outside the room. However the staffs were very very kind and they serveed the breakfast to the room and kept my luggage until the evening even after my check-out had been already made.

Very small room. Narrow stairs. Quite near to the railstation, only one stop by boat. A restaurant nearby. No lift to 2/3 floors. I just left my luggage in the counter. The female reception at the counter is not very friendly. Overall, a price for residence on the main island.

I stayed in a single in the hotel. The room was tiny! Between the bed and the desk there was barely room to fit my suitcase. The breakfast was good, and the receptionist was helpful. The hotel is a 3 minute walk from the train station. This was my only stay in Venice, so I cannot speak for the other hotels, but if you are traveling as a couple, then there are other hotels that are larger that will probably give you a better price/quality ratio(I had friends staying there during my trip).

The print-out which I presented at the hotel on arrival referred to "B & B" which I understand to mean "bed and breakfast". However, breakfast was not included. I felt I had been misled. I saw only my very small single room and a bathroom; I am not able to comment on any other rooms. It appears this questionnaire will not allow me to leave answers blank. Where I have ticked "nought" it means I cannot answer the question.

Very good place and relatively easy to find from the train station a 5 minute walk away. Only knock is that the Venere map is not correct, but I found it with a little searching looking up for wall signs en route. Very small (70sf) and quiet room. I came for the city not my hotel room. Great value for single room with shared bath - shared with only one other single room - in Venice. Staff and owner were very helpful with eating suggestions. I skipped the in-room breakfast and opted for one of the several bar-cafes over the Scalzi bridge on the north side next to the vaporetto stops. I would stay there again.

The hotel was easy to find. We arrived from the airport via bus and walked to the hotel pulling our luggage behind. Even our nine year old was able to handle it. Our room was not too small with a double and single bed. Both the room and bathroom were very clean. The staff were very friendly and spoke very good English. A small resturant is next to the hotel but, we enjoyed walking around the city. We have been to Venice many times and I would stay here again for a short stay. This time we were in transit for a cruise leaving from Venice.

The hotel was in close proximity from the train station but not from San Marco place as it was indicated in the description. You really had to know your way around the town, which comes after couple of 3-4 days after you have stayed there to get fast "down" town.

Easy to find. Close to Bus Terminal, Railway Station and Vaporetto. 2 Pizzerias and a little shop nearby. Very small and dark single room, washroom at the end of the floor, but you get all you need. The photographs on the website only show the double rooms. Breakfast is served in the room. No lift. Nevertheless: I liked it.

What you pay for here is location. Great location near the train station in Venice. I stayed in a single room that was very small, probably 6'x10'. But, it had a bed, a TV, and restroom/shower facility down the hall. It's basically just a place to sleep.

I only stayed one night as I was meeting up with my boyfriend and going to stay elsewhere. I arrived late (around 11.30) and the directions to the hotel were good. As I was on my own I felt secure knowing that the reception was 24 hours. It's expensive in relation to what you get for your money elsewhere, but for Venice it's good value. Basic clean room and small breakfast. Not sure how nice it would be in the heat of summer though!

We could come and go as we pleased. Breakfast was basic and served in a room which had no eating area. It was not particularly quiet - could hear other guests in rooms and on stairs. Was not aware I would need to pay cash as your site had taken card details and it did not say. Steep narrow stairs. No lift or porter. Generally good value

Our entire family. 4 adults and three children (8,6,1) stayed at this hotel. It is in a good location close to the water tassi and a very short walk from the train station(gotta cross the canal). The place is small and we were at first put out that it had no lift (we weren't thinking)but the staff helped us with our bags. There are no public areas, we were not there to hang out. just to sleep. The rooms were very clean and we slept well. We had our own WC. My sister had to share the communal bath and seemed unphased by it. We found Venice itself to be disapointing as far as a city goes. It was dirty and mostly deserted (lot of vacant buildings). The locals said that it is a very expensive place to live so there is not a big resident population. Breakfast was lite, but tasty. Fresh OJ/coffee/tea and a fruit filled crossant. It was brought to your room. The staff was very helpful with directions, where to eat and spoke english quite well. Bottom line. We would stay there again.

The room met all its expections and there was no complaints there. I did however miss a communal area and the reception is slightly on the small side. The breakfast I felt disappointed by, on the first day the coffee was cold, and generally didn`t enjoy it at all. The location is great, there are two water bus stops nearby and it is well signposter to main areas if you fancied a walk

We very much enjoyed our stay here. I travelled with my older parents and we stayed here the night after getting off our cruise ship. Rooms clean. We took over night bags with us and checked larger luggage at the luggage check place next to Pullman Bar at P. Roma bus terminal. Would be a little rough dragging large luggage but do-able if you have wheeled luggage ( who doesn't?).Pizza place next door is to die for!!! Receptionist recommended. Huge Pies for under 8 Euro. Directions.. to get to Doge... from train station.. cross bridg in front of train station , walk straight, take first left and follow signs.. can't miss. Takes about 10 mins from station

My girlfriend and I travelled from France to Italy and tried many different hotels. This was one of our best stay. The hotel rooms are spacious, quiet and comfortable. The decoration is quite good and we had a view over a lovely little garden. We had a good romantic time. The staff is friendly and willing to help and give good suggestion on restaurants and directions. The hotel location is convenient, close to the station. To walk to the hotel from the station, just follow the signs for "Albergo Doge" and you can't miss it. I would definitely come back here. Recommended.

Excellent location very near Grand Canal, bus and train station. 5 min walk to bus in Piazzale Roma. Staff helpful and friendly. Nice clean room, a bit dark as lighting not very bright. Room very small considering you must eat breakfast there. Breakfast left a bit to be desired, water not boiling hot to make tea. No cereal or fruit for breakfast, jam, croissants, bread roll, biscuits, yogurt, fruit juice, tea or coffee provided. Bit pricey for what you get compared to other cities visited. Beautiful city, Vaporetti is best way to get around, hop on and off to explore rather than try to find your way on foot. It's good to get lost as you can find nice Trattoria etc away from the main tourist trail.

Hotel staff was very friendly & helpful. The hotel was overpriced for what you get, but I have a feeling that's just Venice. The location of the hotel was perfect since Venice is extremely crowded & noisy. It was just enough off the beaten path, but still extremely close (walking distance) to the train station, ferry, & tourist attractions. The restaurant next to the hotel was very good. Pasta & pizza was fresh & handmade. P.S. if you stay at this hotel, make sure your room isn't over the restaurant, it would be noisy, especially if you are a light sleeper. Also you might want to bring insect repellent for the mosquitos.

For the Venice-level, this hotel was value for money. We got a quiet and spacious Room at the opposite side of the street. Staff was friendly (talking good English), breakfast typical for Italy (good cappucino, but not much food). No breakfast-room, breakfast is brought to your room. Location near Railway Station is practical for travellers arriving by train (some signs show you the way). Poor: Bathroom was not 100% clean, bathroom ventilation was defective.

We very much enjoyed our short stay at this hotel. It was difficult to find, but I think that is just typical of Venice, as all the "streets" are more like alleys. The hotel staff was very helpful. There is a long narrow flight of stairs next to the front desk, and the desk clerk helped us to get our luggage to the room. Breakfast was served in our room, as there is no dining room or other public area. The staff was able to help us find places to eat and see. Altogether, a very enjoyable stay.

The hotel is about 3 stories, it's not large, but very clean and quaint; the rooms have ac and a bathroom (the shower space is tiny, so count on bumping into the glass door with your elbows :)the location is great as it is 5 minutes from the canal; right next to the hotel, there is a delicious restaurant that makes super-thin pizzas and great seafood pastas, it and has an outdoor seating; the hotel staff is very hospitable and informative (recommended great classicial music/opera concerts in the vicinity); breakfast is optional, croissants and coffee are rather good; we would definitely stay there aagain; great value for hte money spent

The air conditioner was loud. It woke us up a couple of nights, but it had air conditioning and we were very happy for that. In the summer there is no way to stay anywhere without air conditioning. It was close to the train station, great areas to walk, eat and sit. The employess are very friendly. They forgot to give us a wake up call, so bring your own alarm. But we would defiinitely stay there again. Very nice and clean. That's hard to find for the price. Great deal!!

I feel most of the comments are accurate. They serve breakfast in your room and the hotel is small, but a clean and friendly staff. I didn't hear any noise when the staff was serving breakfast as some people have complained about. Also there wasn't a big staff, just the manager who fixed the breakfast. We called and she brought it up, very, very basic, probably all budget hotels are like this. Don't stay in a budget hotel for breakfast.

I would highly recommend this hotel if you are arriving in Venice via train. Crossing the bridge, if you go straight, then take your first left, you will see signs leading you right to the hotel -- it's maybe a 5 minute walk at most from the station. The staff was very kind and spoke perfect english. They were out of singles when I arrived, so I was bumped up to a double at no extra charge. The room was nice and clean and welcoming. The ONLY problem is the noise at night -- it might be a Venice thing, but the street below the hotel window was very noisy, mainly in spurts. Sound carries very well in those confined areas, so unless you're really high up or in an open area, it probably can't be helped. Earplugs are recommended. Otherwise, this is a great hotel at a great price.

I stayed in a single room in early October 2006 at the price of 75 EUR per night. I regretted stay there: 1) The room is very small (less than 2 meter square) 2) the shared shower and toilet are far away from the room (and if not paying attention to the step right in front of the room, it is very dangerous going to the toilet). 3) when I first entred the hotel doing check-in, the whole building was full of bad odour from the toilet 4) the direction given on the Venere.com website is not good enough - it's not true that it's 3 minutes away from the railway station. When arriving in the late evening, it's impossible to see any sign directing me to the hotel in the darkness (although it's not far). 5) the staff was not clever; he was unable to give me direction to the island San Servolo - and he even told me that he has never heard of this island:-( I strongly suggest you _NOT_ to stay in this hotel.

This hotel was easily reached by vaporetto when we arrived. It is also possible to walk across the foot bridge at the train station & get to the hotel (we departed this way) Walking to St.Marks Square area was fine and access to vaporetto stop was also convenient. Excellent restaurant right next door to hotel, but our window overlooked the restaurant's terrace which was noisy at night.

Our two-night stay at the Hotel Doge in Venice was practical and functional. Any deficiency was entirely due to lack of space which cannot be helped on such a small backstreet. The management was outstanding and compensated for the small (but pleasant) rooms. The room was clean and air-conditioned but a bit noisy, and breakfast is brought to the rooms since there is no breakfast room.

Price was OK for Venice, but some recent updating cannot save really small, damp room. Staff is pleasant, but that's it. Location is near rail station, in off-beat area of Venice, surrounded by tiny dark alleys. Combined with hotel having no common areas of any kind (breakfast served in room - with no room for a table), and few nearby restaurants or attractions, it's easy to feel claustrophobic here.

First time stay in Venice and not really impressed. The hotel room was very small but clean. Reception was helpful initially when we arrived but did little after that. The hotel was easily found from the main drop off of the Terravision bus This is more a two star hotel not three and the idea of breakfast in the room does not work particularly as there is no facility except sitting on the bed to eat. Ok for a short stay but I would try somewhere else if I ever returned to Venice

The room I had was very small but space is at a premium in Venice and all I wanted to do there was sleep. The hotel is well situated, close to the station and a stone's throw from a Vaporetto stop. The main problem was noise. I was woken each morning about 6.00 by the hotel staff preparing breakfast trays right beneath my room. I also had less that considerate neighbours! All in all, however the hote was fine and reasonably priced for the city. I may stay there again

Very friendly and helpful staff. The room was small but well mantained, no real complaints. Our room happened to be located above the kitchen so it was a little noisy in the morning, but I'd imagine most other rooms would not be bothered. Most of these buildings aren't terribly sound proof, but we were so exhausted from walking around the wonderful city that we were sound asleep anyway. I would absolutely stay there again!

Breakfast, delivered to the room as there was no communial area got less each day. First day two glasses of orange juice, three croissants, rolls & biscuits, jug of warm coffee and a jug of warm water. Second day, jug of warm/cold coffee, two croissants, rolls & biscuits. Fortunately I am wheat intollerant so my husband ate both portions. For the facilities via the price I would not recommend nor stay at this hotel again.

I found the customer service to be excellent, to have people who could understand and speak English, was such a bonus. Although the room was small and noisy, it was clean and reasonable.

I stayed in one the single rooms, which are on the third floor. It was fine for the price. I stayed in November, and found the room to be a little chilly; the radiator was barely warm. I asked for another blanket, and that was fine. The bathroom, down one floor, was very clean and nice. The location is good in that it is far away from the of the tourist areas. It was also nice because of it's close proximity to the train station, thus allowing for daytrips easily. It was also good because I got lost often, and by just following the signs for the train station, I could find my way back to the hotel.

Single room was noisy - could hear noises from other rooms and from stairs. But using the exterior provided white noise that solved the problem. Room was also very small although this was understandable considering the low price.

Due to the times of trains we only arrived in Venice 2am in the morning, and there the staff was waiting for us with no complaints. We enjoyed every moment even the croissant breakfast...

I had a very tiny single room on the top floor that looked like an add-on to the original building or a converted closet. It was without bath or even wash basin, and it appeared that there was only one bathroom to share and that was on the floor below. Continental breakfast was brought to your room since they do not have a breakfast room. It was a budget option, which does not leave you with much choice in Venice. Convenient location to the bus station at Piazzale Roma, but I probably would not stay there again.

An excellent value room, in a great location. Staff were very friendly, and didn't mind that I wasn't arriving until late at night.

I was pleased overall with the quality of the hotel. The single room was great for what I needed, but then I didn't need much - just a place to sleep. It was really hot when I was there at the end of July and the air conditioner in my room worked really well in fact almost too well. The AC was actually really loud but it drowned out the noise from downstairs and outside nicely.

A great place to stay in Venice - Location - just minutes from train and bus stations, and in a district of the city that is a little more quiet than the busy San Marco/Rialto areas; however, it is very easy to get to the main attractions as they are signposted right from the hotel door. Rooms - clean, nicely decorated, very quiet even on the street side, air conditioning is an absolute god-send! Service - friendly, efficient, breakfast is served in your room, staff are willing to help with any questions about the city etc Overall - highly recommnded, great value for money, I'd definitely stay again

Just returned from my trip and the experience at the Doge was great. The location is fantastic, a 5 min walk from the train station. That's what you want in Venice, because you need to carry your luggage there (no cars or taxis!). From the hotel you can walk anywhere, or take the Vaporetto (water bus) to where you want to go. It is located in a quiet street (a big plus in Venice), in a great neighborhood. You are a couple blocks from the Grand Canal. Daniele is very friendly and helpful. My room was very small (single room) but just fine (doubles are bigger). Breakfast is served in the room, although it would have been nicer to have a common area to meet other fellow travellers. Overall, this is a great hotel really well located for the price you pay. I highly recommend it, and will return again.

We had a wonderful stay. We had to check out early and Carlo made sure we had breakfast even though it meant he had to get up at the crack of dawn with us. What a nice man and we absolutely loved it! Thank you.

Fantastic deal for the money. I had a single room with shared shower/toilet. The hotel is close to the train station which makes for an easy arrival and departure. The staff was friendly and enthusiastic. A great find for being in the heart of Venice.

For a female traveling alone this hotel was wonderful. It is very close to the train station so it's not too far to carry your bags and the area is very safe. The staff is extremely inviting and helpful and while the hotel is small, they do everything possible to make you feel comfortable. I will most definitely stay at the Doge on my next visit to Venice. You couldn't ask for a better deal.

I had a very small room on the top. The room and the other facilities were very clean and the staff members were very friendly. The location is near the central railway station and the central bus station. Main sightseeing points are all within walking distance (ca. 15 min). Having in mind that you are in Venice where hotel prices are very high this hotel offer a relativ great price. If you have the (orange) Venice Card you will get a 5 % discount.

For the location and the friendly staff you cannot beat this price. The hotel was just as I had expected. It's close to the train station which was important to me as I had an early train the morning I left. The owners are very friendly and are very accomodating. Thanks.

I had a very pleasant stay at this hotel. It was easy to find, and it is very close to the train station. It was really nice to have your breakfast brought up to your room in the morning. The room and shared bathroom were very clean and the staff on-hand were very hospitable. Certainly great value for the price paid. I would definitely stay here again should I return to Venice.

As a lone traveller, use to staying in hostels, the Hotel Dodge was a welcome retreat. The rooms though not overally spacious were neat and tidy, bathrooms clean and breakfast enough to last to lunch. Overall, awesome deal, easy to find in the streets of Venice especially from the train station. Would recommend to anyone.
