We had a very pleasant stay. It was well located and relatively easy to find. The breakfast was nice and varied. The staffs were helpful (We didn't know what time our ferry would depart on the next day and a staff was able to find out for us right away)

the location was very good, the hotel was clean and the staff was good, however the price was too high for what you get /maybe because it was the easter weekend we payed 500 eur for 3 nights in a double superior room which was very small/,meaning the room is quite small

L'hotel è situato in centro a Venezia.

Charming character hotel, charming people. Single room small but cute n comfy. Centauro suitable for all but advisable to book ground/1st floor if less mobile. Service firstclass, breakfast great regardless of questionable coffee. Loved it, can't wait to returnh.

I am not that easy to please, but this was a fabulous hotel. I sincerely recommend the Centauro. The desk staff is amazing, always kind and ready to offer advice etc, the room with canal view was worth it. SO wonderful. Everything was clean, breakfast adequate, room beautifully decorated. We want to go back now! It was extra for the canal view, but as this was my first trip, a treat for my teenager, and for only 3 nights, it was truly worth it. Location is fab. Truly, they did not exaggerate.

The 'double' bed was actually 2 singles pushed together with a big gap in the middle & ridiculously uncomfortable - not the best for a romantic weekend. Only entrance to hotel is on narrow calle which was flooded 3 days out of 5 - if going at times of acqua alta take your wellies! The down side of the lovely canal view was the noise of the rubbish barge at 6am - but a price worth paying
United Kingdom, Dec 2008
We were not disappointed with the Hotel Centauro. Staff were very friendly and helpful, especially Alessandro. Single superior room was very comfortable, breakfast was adequate, plenty of choice. Nice and convenient for Rialto and St Mark's area. A very pleasant stay and we would definitely stay there again. Thank you Venere - you have always been reliable booking agents.

This is the first time I have stayed at the Centauro and I will go again. I stayed in the single room without a bathroom, but his was located a few yards away and I was the only user. The room was a very small but I wasn't staying there all day. The breakfast was also excellent. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

We stayed in a quad room which had single beds for the kids, a great bonus! Very high ceilings with fabric covered walls. Narrow window faced scaffolding and another wall but the fantastic view from the breakfast room made up for this. The bathroom was clean and modern including a bidet, to the kids amusement! The hairdryer was like a hoover in reverse, would take my own hairdryer if we went back. Breakfast was basic continental fayre, bread rolls, ham, cheese, salami, cereal, fruit, croissant and eggs but enough to get us started for the day. Location was excellent, just 5 mins walk to either St Marks Square or the Rialto Bridge. In all the hotel met our needs of price, comfort and location and I would be happy to return.

It was a nice clean hotel in a good location to see the sights. The staff was friendly. The room was small as I expected, but clean. The shared shower and bathroom was close and clean. It was somewhat overpriced, but perhaps not for Venice. Overall I was pleased and would stay there again if traveling alone.

I was in Venice for four days travelling solo. The hotel was in an excellent location halfway between the Rialto and St Marco Piazza. It was very clean and had a nice breakfast room on the canal. I shared a bathroom/toilet which were very clean and caused me no problems. The bathroom was next door to my room and I was the only user. The price was reasonable for Venice in the tourist season and the breakfast was good.

Excellent choice for a stay in a hart of Venice! Just few steps from the Rialto. When I book my hotel in Venice I am always happy if they have a free room. Mini-bar is very cheap. Just one euro for a mineral water and 1.50 for a Coke. No elevator. Not for mature travelers, but for everyone else it is the right choice. Enjoy the hospitality of the great staff! It’s a 3stars hotel (with an elevator it would be 4+). In an overpriced Venice, a GREAT VALUE FOR MONEY.

The hotel was a little tricky to find in the first instance, being new to the area. The room was clean and well maintained during my stay. The buffet breakfast provided was very nice but arriving at 0730 for breakfast so that I could get to the Accademia for 0815 (opening time) seemed to be too early, some foods were not available. The staff were very pleasant and informative although the offer of a map and hotel business card would have been nice and very useful. Overall a nice hotel, very accessible, quiet, clean and comfortable!

Very well located to get to main sights either to walk or by vaporetto( the way to travel ). Hotel is in a quiet location. Easy to get to from Station (train or bus) - just make sure you get off at the main Rialatto stop AFTER the bridge not the one before - thats the market on the opposite side of canal. Well maintained property, very clean en-suite with plenty of hot water and pressure. Bedroom small but adequate, the bed was very comfortable and airconditionor included in price, there was also a mini fridge. All staff spoke adequate English and were well able to help the tourist. Breakfast was plentiful and varied. Overall great stay - no hesitation to return.

Great location (5 mins walk from piazza San Marco) and not all that hard to find if you follow the venere directions closely. We were given a huge room including couch and extra bed, which was truly amazing given it was a venetian hotel! The value for money was the best I've ever come across in numerous trips to Europe, although the price we paid was about 1/3 of the official rate on the schedule on the back of the door. Very friendly staff and all aspects of the est were neat, tidy and clean. Main problem was that from about 8-10 am each morn there is a garbage barge positioned in the canal next to the hotel which creates a lot of noise. OK if you're an early riser I suppose. Also, the breakfast was rubbish, but we were happy to grab something at a cafe. Overall we were very satisfied with this hotel for the price.

I found the hotel to be in a perfect location, but was very dissapointed with the room itself. I thought the photographs and room description to be totaly misleading. we bought a room that should have had a " canal view" , but in fact did not, also the internal room photographs were misleading. the services in the hotel were good as were the staff.I have a large experience of hotels worldwide having travelled a lot on business and pleasure, so overall I felt that the quality of the room did not reflect in the price. I would stay again in this hotel, but in future would look to negotiate the price to a more suitable figure.

This was my first time in Venice and I loved it -- also this little hotel. It was close to Rialto and very easy to find while lugging suitcases over the cobblestones. I was warmly greeted and received excellent and polite service at all times. The room was not large, but clean and adequate, nicely renovated. Nice bathroom, again small but new and clean. Breakfast was not fabulous, but not bad either. I would highly recommend it, and would stay there again

An excellent find. We had no problem finding the hotel and were very satisfied with all aspects of our stay. The staff was very friendly. We booked a room with no bathroom and were upgraded to one with a bathroom at no additional charge which was a bonus. The breakfast had excellent variety and the rooms were cozy and clean. The hotel is very centrally located within walking distance to all of the main attractions!

I actually booked a room with a shared bathroom to cut costs, but upon arrival, the receptionist was nice enough to offer us a better room at only a 15 euro per night upgrade. The room was lovely. Very clean! nice bathroom facilities. Although very small, the room was twice as high and had beautiful wood ceiling beams and brocade wallpaper. This hotel was quite near St.Marks square and the central tourist area, and a perfect place to get anywhere on foot. We enjoyed our weekend stay at the Centauro and would recomend it to anyone who wants to stay in Venice on a budget, but still insists on quality! Very friendly and helpful staff!!

We have been moved to another hotel "Hotel Dell'Opera Venezia" so we have not been accomodated in the Centauro Hotel". We have been notified of the move when we arrived at the Centauro because of "the roof leaking in our rooms after rainning". We would have appreciated to be notified before reaching the Centauro. The new hotel is brand new and rooms are nice. However, our rooms at the third floor were close to the kitchen and very noisy early in the morning (from 7 to 9 AM). When checking out we were charged an extra 2 Euros for a bottle of water we had bought in a shop and stored in the fridge of our room. We said so but had to pay: this is not very fair compared to a 880 Euros bill ...

The room was quite small but did come with a small terrace where we could sit and chat. No elevator and no porters to help us with our luggage to the top floor was a bit dissapointing. The staff in the breakfast room were simply not interested the day we stayed there. I am sure (or hope) that they are more attentive usually. The fact that I love Venice means i will return, but will try another hotel next time as i always do.

I made our reservation in August and when we arrived at the hotel in the pouring rain we were told that they were full and they had booked us a room off another square. Back out in the pouring rain we went to walk to the other hotel which was nice. I will tell you this place is difficult to find. We ended up in Manin Sq. only to walk around this sq. and not find the place. Hint, there is a bank with a narrow and I mean narrow street that dead ends. Take that street and it's near the end on the right. We didn't stay there but the place they put us in was nice. One square over where the Burger King is.

I spent four nights at the Centauro in early November, and my stay was part of an overall great experience. The hotel is off the Campo Manin, down a little alleyway opposite the statue, about 5 minutes from the Rialto and slightly more to St. Marks. The room was small, but had everything I needed - a comfortable bed, a wardrobe with enough hangers, good lighting, and even a reasonably-priced minibar, and it was always scupulously clean. The view was limited - across an alleyway to a blank wall, but I didn't spend much time there in daylight. Staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were excellent, with a good choice at the buffet, from fresh rolls and croissants, cereals, ham, cheese, boiled eggs and fruit and yogurt. The area where the hotel is hasn't much for tourists, but it's so central to the area that it made a good base for lots of wandering around Venice. I will be back!

We were traveling with another couple who had never been to Europe. Our trip mostly featured small towns in Italy, Switzerland, and Austria, and our only large city was Venice, which earned a stay on our trip due to its unique characteristics as an island city laced with canals. The rooms in Hotel Centauro were elegant, with 12-foot high ceilings and lots of colorful brocade. The young lady at the reception desk was particularly helpful. The breakfast buffet was excellent.

I had made two reservations; one for Howard DeVore and one for Eli Blickenstaff. I had to cancel the first set of reservations, but then remade then a few days later. When we arrived at the hotel, they did not have the reservation for DeVore....showed us that it had been cancelled, even though Mrs. DeVore had her confirmation in hand. Fortunately, there was a room available, but not the canal view the DeVores had requested.

Overall experience was very good. Our room was quite large and had a window that overlooked the canal which was nice. However, this also made it a little noisier - food was delivered and garbage was hauled away early in the morning. The breakfast was very basic but ok. Its also difficult to find. The street its located on what looks like a deadend alley and there is no sign that's visable in the square or from the street. You have to be standing right in front of the door.

Almost impossible to find at first! Even after reading other reviews here. The directions given were completely useless and we had to ask several times to find the hotel. It's down a tiny alley off a small square with a griffin/flying lion statue in it, with no sign outside the alley. It is actually a very convenient central location, once you know where it is! It was a good hotel, once we'd found it, with a nice breakfast. The room was a little small - could barely walk around the bed. A double room without bath actually means without ANY sort of bathroom. The tiny shower and toilet were at the other end of a long corridor.

We found the comments posted on this website excellent and very true to the hotel. We benefited by following the advice to book a canal view room and were pleased with it. We found the hotel easy to find - see the statue and look for a 3ft alley - there's only one like it in the entire sqaure by the side of the statue - peer down it and you see the hotel sign with the centaur logo. The location was excellent for rialto bridge and St Marcs Square - we really felt at the centre of things but quiet enough to enjoy a restful stay. The canal view was fabulous and we enjoyed being sung to by passing gondolas. The bathroom was a bit small but was well decorated and had all facilities we needed. The room was cleaned every day to high standard. The room was very venetian and hotel was everything it promised to be. Service was good and breakfast was fine! We would stay at the hotel again - being English would have loved tea and coffee making equip in the room but understand that this is not what you go to Venice for. We had a lovely stay and thoroughly recommend the hotel with canal view room. Stairs may be an issue to smaller children/ seniors but added to the quirkiness!

The worst experience we had in our three week trip to 12 European cities. The hotel was in pathetic shape, the air conditioner did not work, the basic amenities were extremely poor, the pricing was absurd, and the construction started at 6 AM so who needs a wake up call?!?! By far the worst value we found in Europe, their are many hotels near San Marco, Rialto Bridge as well as the train station that are very reasonable and are in better shape and the price is of course much better closer to the train station. The room was pathetic, the lack of air conditioning meant that we had to keep the windows open and the sound of the early morning construction ruined any chance of any sleep. We made two calls to the front desk about the lack of air conditioner and were told sorry, no discount, nothing. Horrible response when we could have been moved easily to another room that had a functional a/c unit. I would never recommend, nor stay at the Centauro Hotel, even if the folks in management provided us a free night, no value at this location and we recommend that Venere stops providing reservations at this nasty hotel, in fact I would say that a youth hostel or the street would have been more comfortable. The location was terrific - a quick walk to St Marcos, the Rialto or Accademia bridges. Very quiet except for about 5 - 9pm when the wonderful gondoliers cruised under our windows singing. Hair dryers were useless.

I had this same problem finding a friend's nearby bed & breakfast: directions for finding the place were maddengly vague. A detailed map from the Rialto Bridge to the hotel included on the hotel's website would be a great convenience. Until you've been there, it's impossible to realize how difficult it initially is to navigate in Venice.

Very friendly staff who makes you feel very welcoming. The hotel is at a convenient location where it is close to everywhere. This is the only hotel which gave me a queen size bed in a single room. Note the hotel is not easy to find in the first place just because it does not have an obvious sign on the street. I think Venere should encourage the hotel to do that.

Was given a different room (w/o bathroom), but it was OK with me, so overall the stay was absolutely fine.

well, I was surprised how really nice this hotel is. To find it beteen the small ways its not a little difficult, I did it at the first try. The critic of some people in this forum, that they had no window to a canal, in my oppinion,is not important and of corse in Venice not even possible. I do not travel to Venice to look out of the window, I rather walk trough the streets. For the next journey I will take it again.

Hidden in a quiet alley, so a little tricky to find. But once you are there (and if you are lucky to have a canal view), it is spectacular. I recommend you book the suits with the canal view and pay a little more... it is worth it!

Hotel Centauro was an excellent place to stay for our honeymooon. During the days, we'd listen to gondolas going past our room with their Italian singers and/or accordion players. The hotel has small rooms, but they're magnificent...marble floors, tapestry walls. We took advantage of the free continental breakfast each morning. While it wasn't amazing, it was definitely good and made the hotel stay very pleasing. The location of the hotel was perfect. Walking distance to San Marco square, but far enough away (5 min walk) that we didn't fight the crowds. We would definitely stay there again!

Had a quite small single room, clean and with comfort, but unfortunately no channel view. Noisy only due to some guests, who threw their room doors. Over all a nice pleasant stay, right in the center of San Marco - for the price I payed a unbeatable experience in Venice. Great breakfast, especially for hotels in Italy. Would return any time to Hotel Centauro.

This was the worst hotel we stayed in on our whole trip to Italy. First off, I am surprised anyone can find this hotel and once you do, it is like a prison cell with no view. Actually, you have a four foot view of a wall. Our "double bed" consisted of two twin beds pushed together. They didn't even put one big sheet to try and make it one bed. My wife and I had separate sheets. How romantic. We expected the room and bathroom to be small, but we did not expect the bathroom to have a foul odor. Walking around Venice made us realize our poor choice in hotels because several options we had considered, turned out looking better than the one we had picked. The description of our hotel was WAY misguided. There were no tours or even maps of the city available to us. We would not stay here again.

Meals in restuarants generally expensive but good quality. Service in one family run restuarant in particular was poor with long waits between courses. Disappointed with size of room at hotel even though it was a "superior room". Information available on different types of rooms not suffiently detailed enough to make an informed decision. In hindsight it appears, because of structure of building, that rooms on the 3rd floor were generally small.

We enjoyed our stay. The staff was most helpful and friendly, attending to our many questions and needs with good cheer and excellent response. Our party of 4 stayed in two different rooms, one with a terrace, which was very nice, a great place to read and get out of doors. The bed in the terrace room is in need of a change of mattress but the other was aparentely newer and sufficiently comfortable. The only other minor complaint is that the TV stations are not consistent room to room. One included no channel in english at all, while the other had two. The breakfast is very well done in a well appointed room with a fabulous view. In all other respects this was a very good experience. We would most certainly consider staying at the Centauro again. It is very well located, close to the tourist attractions, but sufficiently out of the main traffic flow to be a quiet respit from the commotion. By the way, the "pork chop" meal at D'Arturo's (toward campo S. Anzolo, first left after leaving C. Manin) is to die for. Enough for two. Ernesto is a great host and cook!

The directions from getting off the waterbus were absolutely useless. The hotel entrance when you do find it is situated down a 3ft wide alley. There is no lift in the hotel, and you have to carry your own luggage up and down the stairs. The rooms were very tiny and the shower cubicle just 2ft square so you have to fix your soap to the wall and spin around to wash and you have no chance of getting to wash your feet. Air conditioning worked well. Hotel charged one euro for a map of venice, but all the maps in Venice don't work, so just have fun finding your way around, you will soon get your bearings. Venice is very expensive and don't buy coffe around St Marks square unless you enjoy paying 20euro for two cups of coffee, use the cafes on the back streets for 2 euros. The breakfast was very good. For shopping go to other side of the Rialto bridge from the hotel as there is more choice and better prices and using the gondola taxis only cost 1 euro for two people to cross from one side of the grand canal to the other if you wish to do that. A gondola ride was a rip off at 87 euros per person The hotel is very well situated for getting all around the sections of venice.
