see public areas and quality of service provided: Breakfastroom is extremly small, to small for having a conveniant breakfast. How should this work during season, as the situation at our stay (beginning of november) was already unsatisfactory. Other things were ok Hans Boehm

Although relatively expensive, in relation to other hotels in Venice it was good value for money, as the location was excellent 0nly about 10 metres from St Marks square. Very appealing to have a gondola station at the front, but does generate a significant amount of people noise.

Venice 4 times/ First time in Albergo. Staff & general service level good and friendly. Difficulty is that the hotel is advertised as a **** star hotel. It is a ** or *** star hotel by any European/American standard. Maybe this is a prob with hotel classification in Italy/Venice? There is hardly space for a bed in the room as a result the decor is scarred and damaged. As long as you stand in the shower its ok.... forget about washing your feet!!!!! Ok I don't want to go on! Overall comment (excluding room) is positive

The location, room, emplopyees and breakfast were excellent, deserved the price I paid. I loved the pretty basket to bring washed clothes from the laundly. The room was comfortable. Sitting in a chair beside window and viewing canal sight, I felt it is not necessary to go out to sightsee... (actually, I did go, of course!)

A very good hotel. We were given the type of rooms and bed arrangements we requested. The rooms were clean and very well decorated in a traditional Venetian style. Well worth paying the extra to have the view over the canal basin. Endless hours of fun watching excited tourist board the gondolas. Good breakfast and friendly staff.
Ireland, Oct 2007
Great hotel - a little noisy from the gondaliers from 9.30am - not a problem - had 2 single rooms very small but OK - location superb with views of the gondalas in the morning and a short couple of meters from st marks square and access to the vaporetto. a sort walk through the fantqstic square to the Basilica of St Marks and the ducal palace.

The single room overlooking the canal I was offered as a complimentary (without even formulating my demand) was stunning CHARM. I travel since many year "blazé" one could say still I couldn't imagine a better Venice experience. All thanks to this tiny but very cute room on the 4th floor over the gondola station. The service together with the natural and human behaviour of the hotel people understanding naturally any of my wishes was also very nice experience. Prices are high but I will definitevly be back!

You would be hard pressed to find a better location in Venice. High-speed Internet is available, but expensive. Breakfaste is included, though it's the usual European faire. You may want to ask to see a room before deciding on one - they vary in size quite a bit.

The Cavaletto was as described on the Venere website, which we have used many times before. The decor of our room was uninspiring and did not lend itself to a typical Venetian decor. Plus, the shower in our bathroom was rather small and the showerhead was difficult to use. Otherwise, our stay was wonderful for my wife, myself, and our other family members. As an owner of an Italian bed and breakfast, I will continue to visit the Cavaletto & Doge for any future trips to Venice. This was my third stay at the Cavaletto; my first time was in 1988.

Expensive, and worth every Euro. The hotel location is perfect--close to the Square and the major water taxis, and right where the gondolas park at night and solicit visitors for a ride. Scenic, quaint, and even quiet at night! Nice breakfast, too. Note, the single rooms looked quite small, but our double was very spacious.

We booked a 3 double rooms, but only got 1 double and 2 singles. Despite this the hotel is excellent value (at least when we went in December) its location is fantastic, the bar is good (if pricey, but so is the rest of venice), the breakfast was very good and the rooms were clean and a reasonable size.

The location was very convenient (just steps away from St Mark's Piazza)and the customer service was excellent. Our room was very cramped and hot; we couldn't control the heat. The rooms of the other people in our group were more spacious and better decorated.

myself and 2 girlfriends spent a night her in early November. on the down side: our triple room was a crapped double with a put-me-up bed; One of the male receptionist on the night shift was a bit arsy and arrogant (but all the other staff we encountered we polite and efficient); and our room over looked one of Venice's many alley ways which proved to be very noisey from about 5.30am onwards. however on the plus side, the location is SUPERB - literally a few footsteps from Piazzo San Marco, and it over looks a small basin where the gondolas tout for tourist trade, so very picturesque. the price was also excellent for the location (thank you venere) and the breakfast was good. so, overall I'd say our stay was good and bad. I would stay there again if i could get the same price, but would insist (and pay for) a view over the basin.

Having booked a single room for four nights, I was quite surprised at the general state of the room - it was small, there were stains in the carpet and even a footprint on the wall! Redeeming features were the bathroom and the view, as I was able to look out onto a canal below and see all the gondolas. Some members of staff were more helpful than others. Basically, I think you pay for the location of the hotel, as it is just off St Mark's Square.

I was very disappointed with Junior Suite accommodation. The room was not in the main building and due to a temporary bed blocking the walkway from bed to bathroom, it was a very compact room which is not what I would expect from a Junior Suite. We did not have a view overlooking the back of the hotel (canal). I was disappointed with the cost of the room to what I actually received.

We had reservations at Cavaletto but they were overbooked and they put us in their sister hotel, Dell Orologio which is also a San Marco Hotel at the same rate as the Cavaletto. Hotel was fabulous. Location was wonderful. Too pricey for us to stay there again as they are only suites. But would definitely recommend it to anyone that wants to pay 300 Euro a night for a room.

As first time visitors to Venice, we found the address misleading - it wasn't "on the Square" it was on a sidestreet...called Cavaletto - if we'd known that, it would have been found sooner. However, the staff was very helpful in advising us about a water taxi to the railway station and a restaurant recommendation. The location was superb in it's proximity to St. Mark's Square. Our ship also provided luggage transfer to the hotel which made it so much more convenient for us. A good choice!!

We were on a 3 week journey in Spain and Italy. This was the best hotel we stayed in. although the rooms were small, not as important as they were very clean. The hotel is in a great location with a wonderful atmosphere. The employees were very accomadating, friendly and most spoke English. The breakfast was very good and had the best selection of food. I would with out a doubt return to this hotel on our next visit to Venice and highly recommend it.

i booked a single room and double for my daughters,in early august, the single room was very small but as venice has so much to offer it was only used for sleeping and showering so not a problem, the bonus was the outlook of the gondolas berthing area. the windows and shutters provided soundproof sleep. another bonus was the window sill which was the perfect sunny place to secretly dry washed nickers!behind the flowering window box.The front desk staff were welcoming and friendly and remembered our room numbers after a day or so a nice touch. Breakfast was all that was needed for a big day of walking around. It was very hot in venice 45degrees with the humidity so the air conditioning was a welcome necessity. The bar area was restful and cool the prices are a bit steep for the aussie exchange but what hotel is not. The barmen were both helpful and one went out of his way to offer assistance when i wanted to transfer my ditital photo's to disk. The boat pickup service from the hotel for the trip to murano and airport is great no lugging bags.I would recommend the hotel for its convenience so near to st.marks and lots of street restaurants, shoping post office sights etc.We would return if going back to venice.

Perfect location on canal less than 1 minute from St Marks square. Room spotlessly clean, well soundproofed and very efficient airconditioning in middle of August. Asked for and got canal view room without extra charge for special occasion. Efficient check-in, very good selection for cold buffet breakfast, good quality but not opulent public areas. Overall very good quality four star hotel and very good value for prime location in high season, would stay there again.

This hotel was a delightful surprise. We were in Venice when it was hot and humid and the air conditioning was wonderfully cool and efficient. We overlooked the gondolas...beautiful, but a little "street" chatter--quiet at night. The women at the front desk were friendlier than the men. There were some wall/light switches in the room that we couldn't figure out. The room was very nice, but we do know that European rooms tend to be small. Breakfast was very good and had a great variety from which to choose.

The location of this hotel is excellent as it is right off St. Mark's Square. Because we had chosen just a standard room,I was not a balcony or a view of the canal, but that is exactly what we received. They actually gave us a choice of 2 rooms. A very small room with a balcony overlooking the canal or a much larger room with no balcony, and just a small window. We chose the balcony room because of the lovely view of the canal, gondolas and shops directly below us. I also must say that I was very impressed with the service we received considering that we had arrived off a cruise ship with many, many other people staying at the same hotel. It was well before the stated checkin time at the hotel but the front desk staff were very amiable and did a commendable job accomodating every one. I was also not expecting a free breakfast in the morning, but no charge appeared on our bill for the breakfast buffet. It was the usual European breakfast, with no hot dishes, but there was quite a fair choice of foods in a nice breakfast room. We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who is visiting Venice for the 1st time. Being so near the Square and all the shops was lovely.

We had a very nice stay, the hotel was just off San Marco square and was very central to all the main tourist sites. We changed our room because it was too small, the bathroom was tiny and the floor was at a slant. We were given a much better room on request without any fuss and it made for a much more pleasant stay.Rooms with views are overlooking canal with the Gondolas and it is very pretty but can get very noisy from about eight a.m as the locals go to work on them.It might not suit people who like to have a lie on in the morning. There was also alot of construction work going on around us and started extremely early on the Monday, not at the weekend.Drinks at the bar are expensive with a bottle of local beer costing eight euros. There was a good continental breakfast every morning and the staff were very courtious throughout our stay .

A great location for sightseeing being less than two minutes stroll from St Mark's Square, this Hotel provided all the creature comforts necessary to revive the weary tourist. We'd upgraded our rooms to include a canal view and our room on the top floor had a little balcony where we could sit(well wrapped up against the cold!) and watch the Gondoliers in the Oresolo basin below. Our friends had rooms on the second floor with the same view but no balcony. Their rooms did not have full baths although ours did. If you want a full bath and shower, make sure you specify this when making your reservation. Breakfast service was relaxed yet efficient - a well stocked and presented buffet including fruits, cereals, meats, cheeses, breads and croissants, yoghurts and boiled eggs. There was also a comprehensive a la carte breakfast menu available. Coffee was a strong Italian blend - a little too strong for our taste, but the waiter qucikly brought a jug of boiling water which helped! There was a comfortable bar with a very extensive cocktail menu that also served hot beverages. The cocktail waiter was particularly helpful and very knowledgeable. Without doubt, this Hotel is ideal for visitors who need comfort and service as well as a central location.

I didn´t imagine the room was so small and without a bath, and with an open closet, aside from that it was nicely kept and clean. Another thing, is that you could hear all what the people next door talked about, so it was difficult to get to sleep. The service at the frontdesk, not particularly serviceably; for example, the information that you asked for wasn´t the best; at the time of the check-out didn´t remind me of the deposit that I gave in concept of the safe box, so I lost that money. the space in the restaurant wasn´t enough to welcome so many guests, and you should wait sometimes half an hour or so in line to get your breakfast.

Right on a canal makes Venice more romantic. Excellent choices for breakfast to start the day. We were three (mom, dad and 20yr old) and the room overlooking the gondolas was a tad crowded with the extra bed, but that was not really a problem. The bathroom was modern and spacious with a tub as well as a shower! Right off of St. Marks the location was good for walking most places.

Hotel really is 20m from San Marco Square - could not be better. Rooms are high level standard, beds even for handycapped or elderly people very good. Check with reservation position of room in the hotel (to canal or back). Specific request for a shower was properly fulfilled. Room classification was unclear (classic, superior): more expensive room was less confortable, but had the requested shower. Personnel competent and very friendly. Prices for the location (hey, this is Venice Central after all!!) adequate. If you are willing to pay the price to be right there - go for it, it's well worth the money. Information lacking in venere-web presence: Floorplan (room locations)of Hotel, clear indication how to get to the hotel (transport, map), detailed specification of room classification (what make a 'superior' superior, why should I pay €20 more a day ...)
