Our first visit to Venice and Hotel Casa del Melograno was excellent. The hotel is in great locality and nice to be out of the main tourist rat race, but not far to walk and boat to all major attractions. The hotel staff and service was excellent, lovely breakfast and the private garden is a real treat to unwind. Would recommend this hotel no problem, but only suggestion is that if you are a fussy person who likes their regular comforts - then take your own pillow!

Quaint, clean, personal, well located. Highly recommend this place! After a decade of travel, this is the first time I want to give feedback… it was just THAT GOOD! As a last minute idea, we could only get a 3 star hotel, this one looked decent online. It was far better than we expected in every way. And has changed my mind about 3 stars completely. We will be recommending this place to all our mates. Besides being in the perfect location, in the heart of Venice, it had a hidden little treasure-it's next door to the Casino. Fun night out, only a door step away. Other guests, mostly german speakers, were considerate and polite, nice touch to the whole feel of the place. Mille Grazie, Danke schon, Thanks so much for a lovely stay!

Upon arrival we were greeted by a very helpful man at the desk who made us feel very welcome & gave us some information about the nearby area, & a map so we wouldn't get lost. The hotel is situated just off one of the main roads in venice so nice and quiet but very near some suitable restaurants & easy to orientate oneself. Everthing in the room was fine, the bathroom was nice and spacious. We had a late flight back and were invited to leave any luggage at the hotel that we wanted to collect later after check-out. This was very helpful. We didn't even have to ask. We had a very pleasant stay here & I would recommend it :)

I had a great stay here over a weekend. Perfect location 50 meters (200 feet) from water bus stop San Marcuola where lines 1 and 2 stop, and close to main pedestrian street. The room was -as can be expected- small but clean, bathroom same. The greatest thing about the hotel was their back garden: In the middle of Venice's masonry and water they have this little oasis of a garden where breakfast was served (weather permitting)! The hotel met all my expectations, but it surprises me from other guests' reviews what people seem to expect. Casa del Melograno is perfect for exploring Venice, Italy! But if you expect a 5 start resort and will spend lots of time in your room and you want to be pampered by hotel staff then you'd better stay somewhere else (and pay more). I would definitely stay here again and would definitely recommed it to others. (I stay like 150+ nights a year in hotels on business.)

This is a 2 star hotel that somehow convinced someone to rate them as 3 stars. The room smelled of sewer gas even though tried to disguise it with perfume. There was continuous pedestrian and motor boat traffic below the windows making sleeping difficult. There was only staff on duty for 12 hours a day. On the positive side the breakfast was good, although the breakfast room was very small and cramped.

Casa del Melograno is a nice place to stay. But do not go with expectations of a three star hotel as it is run as B&B. The person greeted us in the reception was quite informative and welcoming. We were given a room near the reception and kitchen therefore it was quite noisy in the morning. The breakfast served was quite ordinary, just burnt croissants, bread roll (hard as a rock) juice, and cold coffee. So we decided after second day to eat out. The sheets aren't replaced each day so for our entire stay we used the same sheets. We wanted some ice with our drinks and they didn't have any. So basically if you want a bed and bathroom use and expect nothing else book this place. I was warned not to expect much of venice hotels yet i was still disappointed. It is quite conveniently located near the water bus and had some nice shopping area and restaurants.

Among all the overpriced, overrated lodgings in Venice, we found a real value and a very nice place: Casa del Melograno. The hotel has excellent rooms (rather big size for Venice), nice staff and it is very quiet even being quite close to all the places to visit. The "vaporetto" is a few steps away. But the most remarkable feature is a secluded garden, right in the center of Venice: you have breakfast there, and during the day you can relax, read, enjoy the little birds and even have a picnic at lunchtime after buying nice food from the nearby stores. Quite a difference from the rest!

Very helpful staff and very good breakfast; love the courtyard where breakfast was served and loved the other courtyard my room looked into. Close to markets and shops on the Strada Nova and and connecting streets just NorthEast of this beautiful B&B. I even got upgraded to custom sized room when a normal double was not available

A clean, simple hotel, very well situated for walking to main sites and only 50m from vaporetto and 15/20 mins walk from Railway Station and Piazzale Roma. Good, modern bathrooms though hot water did not always last. Only Italian TV. Basic continental breakfast - only one cup of coffee. Good value for central Venice near Grand Canal. Inexpensive restaurants nearby.

This was our first visit to Venice, and my wife and I wereon our holiday that included Paris, Rome, Venice and Amsterdam. Venice was a very pleasing experience, and our stay at Casa del Melograno was also decent. However, the price of 140 euros a night was very expensive considering the services and space provided. Breakfast was Ok, and was served in a very quaint garden on the property. Wireless internet was available, but it was not free ,unlike the other hotels we stayed in on the trip. Unlike other B&Bs that we stayed in, there was no offer of free tea and coffee throughout the day, and access to kitchen facilities like microwave, coffee maker etc. was not provided.

The instructions given were good and it was an easy walk from the station. It was well positioned for visiting St Marks and most of the major sites of Venice. We had a ground floor room which could be a bit noisy at times, especially when a 'party' boat went by one evening. However, any noise was normally after 8am and before 10pm. The bedroom was a good size, with a large bathroom, which also opened onto a pavement, though not a canal. Eating breakfast in the garden was a nice experience, though we wondered what happened when it rained (2 mornings were a bit grey). Staff were helpful and pleasant, and spoke good English generally. The Casa was an oasis of calm and normality in the chaos of Venice.

We loved the location: 2 vaporetto stops from the train station & a 30 second walk and you're there on a quiet corner that fronts a small canal. It is also very convenient to the main walkway, taking you to restaurants, shops, cafes and onward to San Marco or in the opposite direction to the old Jewish gettho. We booked a standard room with bath, but were upgraded to a larger one which was very spacious. However its door was right off the lobby and so we heard conversations outside our door. (And so we wondered if we could be heard, too.) Also, in contrast to an earlier review, our coffee was very good: lattes and machiattos! And breakfast in the garden under the melograno tree was a lovely, peaceful way to begin before you're amidst the hustle bustle of Venice.

my room was small but overlooked the garden as I had requested. It had obviously recently been upgraded as the bathroom appeared almost brand new, as well as the furniture in my bedroom area. The breakfast was the normal Italian style with offers of yoghurt, caffe, various breads, cheeses, jams, and juice. Quite fine and since Venice is crammed with food shops there is no need for anything else. The staff, and owner, were lovely. I will definitely stay there again.

The Hotel ( Is it ahotel or a glorious B&B?) is a . difficult to find. It is really 1st stop on the vaporetto turn round the right corner past the church and the house across the little bridge is it !! I t has no sign but a plaque by the door. Once inside the recption is there. There cannnot be more than 8erooms BUT it has an oasis of a garden at the back where you can sit and recover from the inevitable walking. The garden is really quite large and relatively private. Breakfast (only continental -nothing cooked)is served there outside so heaven knows what happens when it rains. The rooms are very large and with great murals so you acan feel the venetian experience. The main street leading to St Marks is 100 metres away but is not an intrusion. It is a good hike especially with the crowds .Better to go back to Vaporetto and enjoy Venice. Finally close by the church where you can hear the bells is wine shop which will sell you good cheap wine to have a quiet aperitif or even digestif. But take a bottle !

This was first Venice visit. Very nice hotel. Slightly hard to locate it (it is very close to S. Marcuola). The room that we got was very small, just sufficient for two slim people to sleep. My guess is that it is an 8X10 Ft room. Also, since it was a downstair room, shadow of people walking outside on the street would constantly fall on the window. If you are not a sound sleeper, then this may get annoying. But our overall stay was very comfortable and I would definitely stay at this place again.

I loved this little hotel, didn't want to leave and can't wait to return! After a very bad experience with a B & B in Florence, as a single traveller waiting to join friends,I was quite nervous about a)finding the hotel on the first night and b)its comfort in a single room. The moment I contacted the owner by email he replied in excellent English and his directions proved to be excellent also.I had a really warm welcome from Pierluigi and his dog, Herculino (little Hercules) who is actually very large but very gentle!I also met a lovely young family from Switzerland and their dog, Piccolo (he was very small!)so, missing my own two dogs, I was in Heaven! The hotel was quiet and breakfast was in a lovely little garden with a Pomegranite tree. The location was perfect:three seconds from a stop on the Grand Canal and six seconds from restaurants and shops. My room had an en suite and was very clean. It had a tv, overlooked the garden and was well air conditioned. I didn't get even one mosquito bite!Of course every traveller is different and will form their individual opinion and, being selfish, I'm hesitating to say any more because I don't want you all to flock there if it means the hotel is full when I'm next able to visit! However, if you do go I hope you'll find the Casa as homely and welcoming as I did as Pierluigi and his staff - and Herculino! - deserve continued success. Maybe I'll see you there!

This is a lovely small hotel away from the tourist areas. I was alone, was greeted at 10:30 PM after a day of travel with a friendly and helpful welcome. Breakfast, served outside in the garden, was ample for me - coffee, croissant, rolls, yogurt, cheese and jam, and juice. It took me 25 minutes to walk to St. Mark's, but cafes and shops are less than 5 minute walk. Railroad station is a 10 minute walk, and vaporetto stop is just over a bridge and around a corner. I would definitely stay there again.

My daughter and I stayed at the Melograno over Easter and were very pleased with it. The Melograno is a small hotel with perhaps a half a dozen rooms on two floors. The directions provided were accurate and we had no trouble locating the property. The proprietors spoke English and were very helpful in making restaurant reservations for us--and directing us to a sporting goods shop. Our window overlooked the canal and a street but the shutters completely blocked out all exterior noise. Breakfast included cappucino, juice, panini, croissants, cheeses, jams, nutella, yogurt and cereal. The bathrooms were spotless with an adjustable shower head and plenty of hot water and water pressure. Extra pillows were provided, and we were given a twin bed room as requested. The only thing the room lacked was a safe. I should also mention that there is no elevator, so that might be a concern for some travellers unless a first floor room could be obtained. The hotel is very convenient to the San Marcuola waterbus stop but since the vaporetto rates were so high we ended up walking everywhere except when we were going far afield or lugging suitcases.

The "Locanda del Melograno" is a tiny high quality B&B. Even though it is located in a quiet spot, overlooking a small canal, it is close to the main street of Venice, the "Strada Nuova", not far away from the station, Ca'D'Oro and Rialto Bridge. The courtyard, where is planted the pomegranate(that is the "melograno"), is very amusing and relaxing, particularly in a sunny day. Then breakfast is excellent: cappuccinos and croissants were perfect.

Excellent location only a minute walk to the vaporetto stop. Our room was right on a canal which was cool. The rooms were very clean and a good size. The only negative is that the power went out the only night we were there, which I think you can not fault the hotel for, but it was a hassle and we could not reach anyone for help. A nice grassy area for breakfast or kicking back.

Perfectly located, nice garden, with good breakfast and very friendly staff. My single room was to the garden: quiet and a bit small-sized but everything was there and perfectly clean. In times of breakfast served indoors the adjacence to the brekfast room might be noisy. Overall, I enjoyed my stay!

This is a very good B&B with Good Location, proper welcome, sufficient breakfast, and cool atmosphere and a garden inside. Very near to Waterbus stand (02 minutea). I shall definitely come back to this B&B hotel when I goto Venice. The attached room is very good but less space ( still confortable).

We loved this hotel. Its position is fabulous, a few seconds walk from the vaporetto stop. The room was typically small but comfortable, quiet and clean. The staff were brilliant, they could not have done more for us- including making us a much needed cup of Tea. Overall i would recommend this hotel to anyone - very easy to get to, clean, comfortable and wonderful staff.

We enjoyed our stay and were pleased to be away from the hustle and bustle of Piazza San Marco. It was easy to get around though and the location is perfect for access to the vaporetto stop. Breakfast was a little disappointing for the price of the B&B but adequate.

Great find right in Venice, nice and close to the train station but not to close. This hotel is right next to the Casino, I'm not a gambler but if you are stay here. The only thing wrong with the whole place is that the common area is a little cramped. The staff was great, we were given local information and also provided with a cheap alternative to get to the airport on an early flight. I would reccommend this hotel to anyone going to Venice. It's right on a little out of the way canal and while we didn't I'm sure you could get a gondola right to the front door.

The Casa del Melograno is a clean, friendly place close to a Grand Canal stop. The breakfast was the least inspired we had in Italy, and compared to the rest of Italy, the cost of the stay was high - but that is the cost of staying in Venice. From this hotel you can walk anywhere fairly easily(however keep track of where the bridges are for some destinations), but take the water bus, the vaporetto, for the fun of riding on the canal and watching the various boats - delivery, garbage collection, etc. at work. The passes for the vaporetto are good for the amount of time imprinted on them, from the time you stamp them; a 24 hour pass runs for a full 24 hours, so they are a good deal if you are going to catch a few rides. The vaporetto stop nearest the Casa del Melograno doesn't sell passes, but the staff will tell you how to get to the nearest tobacco shop that does. Also, if you are going to St. Mark's square during high tide, make sure you choose your footwear carefully. They put up walkways so that you don't have to slosh through the water, but if you aren't careful, you might have to slosh through some anyway.

Getting to this hotel was difficult even though it was so close to the Marcuola vaporetto stop. I wish we were given better directions or took to time to know exactly (!) where we were going. The location itself was ideal for us who had little time. We stayed for 2 nights but would have liked to stay longer although would not choose a "French" double bed again. It was too small even for average sized people. The hotel was recently renovated so everything was in good working order and beautifully decorated. All the spaces were immaculately clean. The staff was very nice, very helpful. They even packed us a simple brown bag breakfast when we told them we would leave for an early flight. I would surely recommend this hotel!

I would highly suggest the hotel add another method of getting from airport to the hotel: take the bus (directly in front of arrivals door) to P. Roma and from there it is the 3rd stop on the #1 canal boat. It is cheaper (3euro vs. 10), quicker (30 min vs. 120), and more comfortable since the Aliguna boat seats are hard. Also, it was pure luck that I found the hotel since it was off on a side street, the sign is small/not noticeable, and the entrance looks more like a residence than a hotel. My single room was tiny for the price and breakfast (rolls, yogurt, coffee/juice) got boring quickly after the 2nd day--but it was in a good location, immaculate, quite, comfortable, own bathroom/shower and the proprietor and his dog were very personable/friendly with very good English. The garden in the back was a quiet respite after sightseeing and the pomagrante tree was full of ripe fruit during my stay. Overall, I would stay there again!

Casa del Melograno is a small, quiet hotel located a short walk from a vaporetto stop on the Grand Canal and a slightly longer walk from one of Venice's main shopping streets. My single room was small but comfortable and very well appointed with TV, minibar, A/C, wardrobe, data connection etc. The bathroom was equally well appointed. It should be noted that their minibar prices were only a few cents more than those charged at the local shops! The breakfast was plentiful and consisted of fresh rolls, croissants, cheese, yogurt, coffee or tea, and was served in the hotel's small garden as the weather was still warm. If you are looking for a reasonably priced hotel close to everything in Venice this would be a good choice. Coming from the San Marcuola Vaporetto stop I found it very easily following the map provided on the web page; however the hotel sign is very small - just a brass plate beside the front door. Look for it as soon as you cross the bridge over the Rio S. Marcuola.

I really enjoyed staying at "Casa del Melograno". My mother and I stayed there for 3 nights. it was perfect! the owner was very helpful. I asked many things when I booked. he answered us everything, and gave us advices. and then, we arrived there. the owner was really nice - quiet, modest and very kind. also 2 ladies were so nice - smiling and speaking good english. the location was also nice - very convenient to get on the local boat and not far from the train station. there are a lot of shops, restaurants, and a supermarket "VILLA" was not far. the breakfast was enough for us. the white bread was very tasty. the room was also nice. specially. the bathroom was great! clean and large. We would certainly return. I really thank!

Our stay at the Casa del Melograno was a wonderful experience! The location, the staff, the rooms and especially our host, Piereluigi(and his dog "Little Hercules,)made visiting Venice a memorable vacation. We were right on the canal and had a 2 minute walk from the water taxi. Centerally located, the hotel made it accessible to all locations. We had a "home-like" feeling each time we returned there after sightseeing all day. We could not have asked for a more pleasant and charming place to stay. Larry and Anita Galloway

We opted to walk from the train station and had a little trouble finding the place. But if you take the water bus (vaporetto) to the San Marcoula stop it is very, very easy. Just head off the dock and stay right of the church. Then turn right at the end of the building, over the bridge, and you're there. It's literally about 50 yards from the vaporetto stop. Once we got there, we enjoyed it very much. Our room was large (by European standards) and the bathroom was newly renovated. Air conditioner worked great. Very clean. We found the location to be very convenient (it's not very far to walk almost anywhere in Venice), and the proximity to the vaporetto was great for trips up and down the Grand Canal.

This is a charming little hotel (6 rooms) with friendly staff. Breakfast was good but primarily pre-packaged. Great coffee. There is a central garden which is green but could be much nicer (one pomegranet tree - hence the name.) Our room on the ground floor was very nice. The owner has a mid-size dog which we like but those with allergies should be advised. All in all, I would not hesitate to recommend. Really nice to be away from the crowds!

The staff was very friendly and the room was quite nice. I didn't expect to have our room open up onto the lobby of the hotel, which proved to be a bit noisy in the morning as breakfast preparations were being made. I also was a bit surprised to have the windows of our room open out onto the hotel courtyard, again providing little privacy during breakfast service since we were on the first floor. We had no problem finding the hotel, as we followed the directions posted by a previous visitor in the comment section - very helpful! I would stay here again, but would make sure to stipulate that we would want a room upstairs....however, we were only scheduled to stay one night.

We had 2 rooms for 4 people, rooms were as good as they need to be; brand new bathrooms. Everything was clean and fresh. Breakfast was not great. Bedrooms on the canal side can be noisy at night. Bedrooms on the garden side were great. Entrance is easy to miss, and looks like a residence until you are inside.

We picked this place because its description on the internet sounded attractive. The reality was even better! The entire interior has been beautifully remodeled. Our room was graceful, spacious, spotlessly clean, with all-new bed and furniture, and very comfortable. We looked out on a small canal (fun to watch), but excellent soundproofing insulated us from its noises when the windows were closed. Our room had the best and quietest airconditioning we've ever found. The managers were young, informal, charming, and most helpful, and spoke English well. Breakfast in the garden was very pleasant. The location is quiet, yet only a few yards from a vaporetto stop (and only two stops from the railroad station-- we walked there easily). If we'd known all this in advance, we'd have booked a longer stay. We had been concerned that the nearby Municipal Casino might be a rowdy neighbor-- not to worry: this casino seems sedate and dignified and we didn't hear a peep from it.

The location of Casa del Melograno made my stay there perfect. It's right by a vaporetto stop, but you really can walk to everything. And to be honest, you really see more of Venice by walking. I stayed in a single room so it was small, but I expected that for Venice. The good thing was it was clean and the hotel staff was very helpful and pleasant. Don't expect much from the breakfast, but take advantage of having a coffee and yogurt and continue with your day - you're in Italy so you'll be having some gelato soon enough!

Modest but spotlessly clean. Our room (called Lido) was very spacious and bright with stone floors and painted ceiling. Location a bit off centre but very convenient for catching the main vaporettos - Line 1 and 82. Noise levels relatively high because of boat "traffic" on nearby canal and passersby on bridge. Not for light sleepers. Garden is charming but has much more potential. Breakfast is rather horrible (even if garden location great). Seriously bad coffee, plastic wrapped jam-filled "croissants" and "la vache kiri" cheese etc. Staff very friendly and helpful though. Pleasant simple place.

A first visit to Venice and found the locanda/hotel with difficulty. Map was good but signs on door very small! It's a small place, with 6 bedrooms, Run by an enthusiastic young owner and his very friendly dog (Little Hercules). Lovely grassy courtyard for breakfast (not sure where you eat in winter).Very good room and bathroom, spotless - and spacious for Venice. On ground floor, but surprisingly quiet. Owner was helpful and kind, full of good advice and keen to please. A low key relaxing place with a quality "family" feel. It's 75 metres from a vaporeto stop and 15 mins walk from St Marks. Would highly recommend it to anyone who does not insist on a full service hotel or one close to St marks (ie noisy and busy).

my wife and i were on our honeymoon and it was my first time out of the country. i have heard all the typical horror stories americans are told about europeans and was a little nervous about the trip. i scoured the internet for info on booking in venice and venere.com was the best site by far. a few things i had read about and was warned about was that venice was very confusing to get around at first and that no one would help. first off i would like to say that our hotel sent email directions from the airport to the hotel and answered every question i sent quickly and completely. the staff was helpful and freindly and showed no biased towards us becuase we were americans at all. also, i had read that the rooms in europe especially venice are very small. we were prepared for a broom closet but my goly our room was out of a dream(or a romance novel) spacious and clean with a beautiful painted ceiling and a new bathroom. also, if you have read any reviews you probably have seen complaints about the breakfast at each place. it seems the breakfasts are pretty standard wherever we saw or whomever we talked to. simple breads, fruits, coffee..sure it did not blow our minds but each morning we left full and ready to take on the city. yes, the city is tough to navigate at first especially if you do not speak or read italian, but we managed to get by and quickly navigate the vaparetto lines to aid in our journey. and really the most fun we had was getting lost and just viewing the city (though drop off your luggage before any long journey, ok?) each day i find myself thinking of venice, and the bridge my wife and i crossed each day to get to the casa del melograno and i get goose bumps. take my advice and when you go to venice stay at the casa del melograno and you will not be dissapointed. and if it is available book the honeymoon suite! i am jealous of you already, i want to go back!
