exterior - entrance
Housed in a lovely 15th-century building, Hotel Caneva enjoys an excellent location in the historic centre of Venice, in the suggestive area around the Rialto Bridge and St Mark's square - the most important landmarks of the The Serenissima (The Most Serene), as the city of Venice is often referred to.
The convenient position and gracious atmosphere of this affordable Venice hotel will make for an unforgettable stay in this fascinating city, with its unique and timeless charm.
The Caneva hotel can be accessed directly from a typical Venetian canal, and is therefore an ideal starting point to reach all the city's main tourist attractions and museums, such as St Mark's Basilica, the Doge's Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the Procuraties (three connected buildings on St Mark's Square) and the Correr Museum, also by private water taxi or gondola.

This city is magic and this hotels offers affordable accommodation in a greatlocation. Room was large the bathroom was a shared arrangement only one flight of stairs. Location is the highlight comfortable too, stange it appears there are few double rooms but ended up with three singles which was a small price to pay for location, location location and great value. Good breakfast too! Would happily return.

Excellent service, clean rooms, central location. Best feature : my room looked out on a canal with passing gondolas.

The location is really excellent, making it a good value for the money in a very expensive city. Breakfast was a typical continental affair but not bad. The room felt a bit unfinished with some unstained baseboards and the like, but we didn't spend so much time there (Venice is wonderful!). Would recommend as a good place to catch some shut-eye, but not for a luxurious stay.

We rent the apartment, and have no idea of the quality of rooms at the hotel. The apartment is at the 3. Floor, if you can carry your luggage up the stairs, this is excellent for a family of 4. Every thing is new, bath, kitchen, closet ect.

No A/C, price was higher than other hotels with better amenities in Rome, Florence, and Cinque Terre.

The hotel was conveniently sited a few minutes from the Rialto. The staff were very helpful. The breakfast was disappointing as the only fruit was tinned peaches and the orange juice was very thin. My room overlooked a busy canal where worked started at 5am.

The staff was really nice. The breakfast was simple, but good. The rooms were decent, and the area was quiet. It's near the Rialto bridge, which is a good location in Venice.

We travelled here in Winter, just before Xmas and were blessed to have wonderful weather. The hotel was excellent value for money at this time, breakfast was satisfying enough and the staff were friendly - although not all spoke English. The location is great although closer to Rialto than St Mark's Square. Only problem we had was renovations outside our window so a VERY loud boat from early in the morning until dinner time for 2 days but this wasn't really the hotel's fault...I would definitely recommend staying here for a good value place in a great location.

As we had never been to Venice before we had difficulty finding this hotel. However it's central loctaion and traditional building is excellent. The room is functional and clean but not furnished to a modern standard. we had a wonderful view from our balcony so this more than made up for the basic standard of the room. One negative was that some of the staff were smoking within the building so some of the communal areas did smell of stale cigarette smoke, this didnt affect the room thankfully. Overall though, great value in a central location if on a tighter budget.

the hotel is nice & quiet, but the room without air condition will be hot during summer (around 28-35 C degree).

Front desk was very professional & friendly. Breakfast buffet was ample. Location is 5 star! Only problem is no A/C during the heat wave but we'd definitely stay there again, in cooler months. Price is fantastic!

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. It was very close to the Rialto Bridge and St. Marks Square, as well as plenty of restaurents. Our room had a view to one of the canals, great to watch the gondoliers.

Staff were friendly and spoke good English. We were disappointed that when we booked a triple room (1 double & 1 single bed), we got a room with 4 single beds in. Also, we found that they could put some tables and chairs in the courtyard outside where you could sit and enjoy a drink. The hotel was clean and good value for money, but there is still so much they can do with it to make it spectacular, especially because of their position.

the adress number (5515) is the good one, but the area on the website is wrong. it is not St. Marco but Castello. a little detail, but in venice, it means about 2 hours being lost, searching and asking for the real location.

nice and central location (from rialto to campo s. bartolomeo, turn right, at the end of campo turn left at "solaris" store towards san marco, over a bridge to campo della fava, right side of the church). friendly staff during the whole stay. rooms: very simple furniture but very clean. those looking to canal very nice but disturbance by boats from 6 a.m. on - except sundays (but quiet in the night). nevertheless would stay there again.

We had a room with a balcony and neat view of two canals. The room was not carpeted, but the flooring was as clean and shiny as polished marble. Great location, helpful and nice receptionist, good price. Would stay here again.

The location in town is good, but everything with exception of the entrance looks and feels really rundown and cheap at this hotel. If you don't want to exclude to go there with someone who is not himself a hotel guest forget this place. They definitely refuse entrance to anyone.

a bit over-priced, but overall, a great place and great location. 5 minute easy walk from the Rialto bridge. They do close and lock the front door early, so you can't be coming and going all night. Also, if you need to leave early (5:30AM), you need to let the desk know earlier that day so it can be arranged that someone comes by to unlock and let you out.

For anyones first trip to Venice I would highly recomment the Caneva Hotel. The rooms may be very basic but our room was very clean and tidy and with a view that would be hard to beat anywhere in Venice. The Caneva is ideally located being 3 minutes from the Rialto bridge and about the same from St Marks square. The staff were very friendly and helpfull and e-mailed us direction on how to find the hotel, and which water-bus to catch all very useful information at 1130 at night when its your first time in Venice. We found the Caneva very good value for money and would certainly stay there again, and we would ask for room 31

Exactly as represented on the website and comments including the opening spiel by Bruno for his walking tour. Powerboats in the Rio outside my window at all hours of night were not a problem as I'm a deep sleeper. Breakfast is just the basics. The walls are thin but the price is right. Staff very freindly and helpful. Rooms are adequate for budget travel and in no way detracted from a first time visit to Venice.

This little hotel had a great location! We had a balcony that opened up right to a canal. It was treated a little like a hostel, though, where you weren't allowed to bring guests back to hang out. That was the only downfall. Bruno, one of the front desk staff was amazing! He took us on a tour away from the tourists. Highly recommended! Rooms are very basic, but clean and comfortable. For the price in Venice, this was a great find. I would stay there again. Make sure you know it's in Campo de la Fava, or you will never find it, though. AND not easy to find after a couple of drinks! But we managed.

I was really afraid because it was my first time in lending hotel in Internet, but really, everything was excellet. In fact, I changed the date of the first election, and I could, without problem, choose a new one. The only experience I got, is to ask properly how to arrive to the hotels selected (train, walking)In the case of Caneva, it would have been better to know that it was located in the Fava Square (Piazza de la Fava) to make easy the first way to the hotel

Hotel was quite easy to locate and pleasant enough. Staff was mainly the owner and another elderly gentleman who also moonlight as a "walkabout" tour guide. Room rate per night is a little high mainly due to the summer season.

Quality vs. price - hard to tell. As it is in the center of Venezia, the price was great. But globally, it's quite horrible to pay 80 euros for a hotel which looks more like youth hostel. I was satisfied because I was prepared, I knew in advance that the room will be without bathroom and I saw photos of the room on the web. But anyway, if you know the price and possible profit of the hotel and then see that no investments are made in the hotel (hotel from outside, furniture... - do not misunderstand me, everything was clean, but old and used), it's kind of strange. My husband owns a company and every profit goes on investments, here I would doubt that any part of profit has been invested to the hotel lately... To conclude, I was extremely satisfied, but some things surprised me. You know, we in Eastearn Europe always want to reach the Western Europe, but maybe you should sometimes get inspired in Czech Republic, too (and this is not only problem of hotel Caneva, but of many other hotels in Italy - in comparaison with France, Spain or Austria Italians offer the less for the highest rates).
