Hard to find. They give no maps (even got a sign on reception that says "WE HAVE NO MAPS", what kind of hotel do that?). Everytime we went to the reception there was a different person (?). We left on 5am and the recepcionist was sleeping in the coach on the lobby with all lights off.

The room was big enough but not necessarily what you see in the pictures. The pictures are very deceiving. It is a very noisy hotel..do not expect to get much sleep as they are on a through way and the motor boats run all night. The owner is very very very rude and I bit my tongue when we checked in just in case he was having a bad day but the next day he was still very rude so I had to tell him so. We did not speak again. I would not recommend this hotel to anybody. I have travelled all over the world and have never felt the need to write a review except for this one.

The Hotel Caneva was an easy to find hotel straight from the Rialto Bridge Vaporetto stop. As soon as we got in Steffano was extremely welcoming and checking in was no difficulty at all - we were extremely relieved as we got in quite late). The rooms were spacious and all we needed for the time we were in Venice. All facilities were really clean, and the position of the Hotel was right near all the main attractions, i.e. a short walk to San Marco Square, the Rialto Bridge and restaurants (waterside); and also the vaporetto stops to get to other more distant areas. All in all we were very happy with our stay, recommend it to those who are not to fussed on staying in lavish accommodation but just want a nice comfortable place to stay while they take in the beautiful vibe of Venice. Stefano is an absolute legend, very hilarious and creates a good atmos in the hotel. Kind regards...Malta!

The hotel room had a cool view that looked out to the water. The hotel served the purpose we were looking for. It was a safe area with stuff to do around. This place is not a five star hotel, but it was clean, service was friendly, and was a good place to stay. Serve the purpose we were going for.

My first hotel stay in Venice. Considering it was in a room for 4 people in a one-star hotel, I had an excellent stay. We had only a few stairs to our room but others in our group had a tiring climb. Staff were friendly, and generally helpful. The €5 buffet breakfast was good, and plenty for me. Although the room for 4 was a little cramped, we had just about adequate storage space for a week - also our own bathroom, large fan and TV - extra toilet and shower cubicle nearby in the corridor. The only real drawback was the poor plumbing in the only bathroom sink (Room 37). Excellent value overall, especially for the brilliant central location, short walking distance between Rialto Bridge and St Mark's Square.

Our experience at Hotel Caneva was not good. The room was very shabby including a broken wardrobe that was on a lean. The doors had fallen off and someone had simply put them to the side of the wardrobe. The mattress on the bed was long overdue to be changed with springs poking out all over. I asked for 2 blankets to put on top to provide a bit more comfort. The proprietor asked me what I wanted them for, and when I told him, he said I was the only person who had ever complained about the bed and everyone else said they were very comfortable!! While we had a view over one of the side canals, it was a major traffic zone so there was noise all night. There were also cockroaches on the window sill when you opened the shutters. Overall, a very bad experience and not at all worth the money.

Excellent location - 2 mins St Mark's, 3 mins Rialto Bridge - good choice of restaurants, shops, etc nearby. Quiet location, canal right outside reception. Room was large (4 single beds)& very clean. Definitely not a chain hotel - had odd-ball furniture, a bath but no shower. Had charm but don't expect the Ritz, it's fairly basic. Venetian experience on a budget. Would recommend staying here and having some cash left to enjoy Venice.

Stayed 3 nights with my family. 3 Bad things - the wall was thin, the shower was not hot enough for me, and we were disappointed we could not get canal side room. But we had read its review on VENERE before we booked, so it was okay for us. Location was good, which is centre of Venice (few minutes walk from Piazza San Marco). Staff was very kind, and I definitely got enough satisfaction more than price.

We had a room with the view on the canal, which was not quite good. In early morning we heard a terrible noise from the engines of the small boat. It lasted for more than an hour or so. Anyway the location is great, just in the centre, which is a good advantage. The personnel was friendly, no problem at all. The breakfast could be better, I missed some meat. There was only some cheese, cereals and sweet stuff to choose from. Overall, I liked the place.

The location is really excellent, making it a good value for the money in a very expensive city. Breakfast was a typical continental affair but not bad.

The hotel was excellent value for money at this time, breakfast was satisfying enough and the staff were friendly - although not all spoke English. The location is great although closer to Rialto than St Mark's Square. Only problem we had was renovations outside our window so a VERY loud boat from early in the morning until dinner time for 2 days but this wasn't really the hotel's fault...I would definitely recommend staying here for a good value place in a great location.

As we had never been to Venice before we had difficulty finding this hotel. However it's central loctaion and traditional building is excellent. The room is functional and clean but not furnished to a modern standard. we had a wonderful view from our balcony so this more than made up for the basic standard of the room. One negative was that some of the staff were smoking within the building so some of the communal areas did smell of stale cigarette smoke, this didnt affect the room thankfully. Overall though, great value in a central location if on a tighter budget.

a bit over-priced, but overall, a great place and great location. 5 minute easy walk from the Rialto bridge. They do close and lock the front door early, so you can't be coming and going all night. Also, if you need to leave early (5:30AM), you need to let the desk know earlier that day so it can be arranged that someone comes by to unlock and let you out.

That was the only downfall. Bruno, one of the front desk staff was amazing! He took us on a tour away from the tourists. Highly recommended! Rooms are very basic, but clean and comfortable. Hotel was quite easy to locate and pleasant enough. Staff was mainly the owner and another elderly gentleman who also moonlight as a "walkabout" tour guide. Room rate per night is a little high mainly due to the summer season.

Quality vs. price - hard to tell. As it is in the center of Venezia, the price was great. But globally, it's quite horrible to pay 80 euros for a hotel which looks more like youth hostel. I was satisfied because I was prepared, I knew in advance that the room will be without bathroom and I saw photos of the room on the web. But anyway, if you know the price and possible profit of the hotel and then see that no investments are made in the hotel (hotel from outside, furniture... - do not misunderstand me, everything was clean, but old and used), it's kind of strange. My husband owns a company and every profit goes on investments, here I would doubt that any part of profit has been invested to the hotel lately... To conclude, I was extremely satisfied, but some things surprised me. You know, we in Eastearn Europe always want to reach the Western Europe, but maybe you should sometimes get inspired in Czech Republic, too (and this is not only problem of hotel Caneva, but of many other hotels in Italy - in comparaison with France, Spain or Austria Italians offer the less for the highest rates).
