The reviews of Hotel Canal Grande are what sold me, and they were pretty much spot on. The staff at the hotel are amazing - all of them. Very friendly, helpful and accommodating. There was an incident at the hotel on the night of our arrival which caused a bad smell in our room. But the hotel handled it in the absolute best way possible - they were very apologetic, they booked us a room across the palazzo and carried our bags over (and we didn't have to do any paperwork), then they upgraded us too a nicer room for the following night when we returned. To me, that speaks volumes about this hotel. Sometimes things happen that you can't control - but it's how you handle them that matters. I would definitely go back!

The hotel was everything I hoped it would be given the great reviews and presentation on tripadvisor and venere websites. The staff were very friendly and made our stay a pleasure. Our room was in one of the adjacent apartments, which was no problem at all as a canal view was not that big a deal when we had breakfast right by it every morning watching the busy boats and vaporetti. This is the best hotel I have stayed at in Venice of its star rating and it is definitely the best positioned for ease of access from the airport via Piazzale Roma or Sta Lucia railway station. All the major attractions are quickly reached on foot or vaporetto and it is nicely off the beaten track - ensuring a calm and relaxing oasis in the midst of such a bustling city. 10/10 highly recommended

Utilizing porter easy and convenient access to bus or train terminals, much cheaper than water taxi and no trouble. Highly recommend. Best hotel experience ever. Delightful.

Exceeded my expectations. Extremely friendly and welcoming staff at front desk at all times during our stay of 2 nights. I arrived early about 10:00 am after night train from Paris to Venice. I was pretty tired, hungry, and sweaty. What a relief to walk into the hotel and be greeted and treated so kindly, offered an early check in, a cup of coffee and some food from the hotel's morning breakfast. Very good dinner recommendations for restaurants off the main paths that were quiet and served multi-course dinners at reasonable rates. Staff also helped with train schedules and that made our travel easier. Room was decorated in Rococo design (late baroque 18th century artistic style) with great attention to detail.

Wow. There are a lot of hotels in Venice, but the reviews about the Service, the less touristy area and the photo's sold this place. We were blown away. The staff were amazing, with top quality (and very reasonably priced) recommendations for restaurants every night. The hotel and staff were better then anything we have experienced to date, and really made the whole experience unforgettable.

As the hotel name suggests it is located right on the Grand Canal within 10 minutes walk from both the bus and train stations. All the staff are very helpful and friendly. Rooms are both comfortable and ample in size. Lots of restaurants and bars within a short walk of the hotel. St Mark's about 30 minutes leisurely walk away. We would recommend the Hotel Canal Grand very highly.

Considering the prices charged, we were disappointed that fresh fruit juice was not offered at breakfast without an extra charge. I felt that this was rather mean on the part of the hotel and the only blemish on what was otherwise an almost perfect experience. We were also conscious that the hotel was not full and wondered whether space at breakfast might have been problematic had it been so, given that the bar/breakfast area is actually quite small. Staff are to be commended on their 'meeting and greeting' and their very positive attitude towards guests.

My wife and I travelled with my sister,brother-in-law and my 91 year old Mother. We felt at home from the moment we arrived. The hotel itself is wonderful. Intimate in size yet magnificantly furnished and decorated. Our room had a balcony overlooking the adjacent court yard and the Grand canal. Every night an accordian player was in the court yard providing the most wonderous music for our pre-dinner wine and cheese. It was almost surreal. The location was excellent. Scores of wonderful restaurants and shops and while it was on the far end of the Grand Canal from St. Mark's Square, my mother walked the round trip and was home (alive) for dinner at six. Strolling the immediate neighborhood is a must. Should you travel to Venice by train, its location, a short walk from the Train Station or the Piazzala Roma, (Bus and car depot) will save you hundreds of Euro in water taxi. We arrived of a cruise ship and our private water taxi fare was at least 50 Euro less than most. Last, and most important, is the staff. Every wish was anticipated. Giovanna at the front desk, Roxanna, in housekeeping, the breakfast servers and the porters could not have been more gracious. My congratulations to them all for taking whatever stress there might have been in travelling with a 91 year old out of the vacation.

Tv in the mirror was a nice touch! Staff were fantastic - welcoming, helpful and provided great service. Room was luxurious. Nice to have free Internet although system was slightly annoying as had to constantly keep logging back in with custom credentials - although again, considering it was free wifi it wasn't a big deal. Location was SUPERB - from the bus station it was simply a pleasant 5 minute stroll to the hotel. Perfectly located for everything we needed during our stay.

Stayed 5 nights, paid $525 each for canal view. Room had unusable table and chairs (extremely low ceiling); step up into bathroom is dangerous if you forget its there at night; plastic cups in room for drinking and breakfast buffet with powdered juice (TANG) resemble Holiday Inn Express - poor. Staff was very polite but recommended lousy restaurant; amenities were average but charged as a luxury hotel - poor value. I won't return.

A little gem of a hotel. The Hotel Canal Grande is not flash but it is certainly stylish. It's location, although right on the Grande Canal almost opposite Stazione di Venesia Santa Lucia, is remarkably quiet and protected from the hubbub of Venice's tourist traffic. It is also, thankfully, a little way from the crowds of St Mark's Square, so is a wonderful little retreat at the end of a busy day seeing the beauty of Venice. Our room had the only private terrace. It was on the 2nd floor, west facing and looked directly at Ponte degli Scalze; perfect for enjoying a setting sun and a glass of wine. What it gained through the terrace it lost by being small, but perfectly comfortable nevertheless. Other rooms were larger. The absence of a restaurant did not matter at all as there are plenty of places to eat within 5 minutes walk. The real strength of the hotel was the management and staff. Every one of them was charming and helpful. The Manager's said "We welcome you as guests and say goodbye as friends" which typifies the attitude. They go the extra step to make guests as comfortable as possible - and all with good grace and no hint of commercial cynicism. If you like style without crass opulence, genuine high quality service and a relaxing, understated location then this is the hotel for you.

I think we stayed in a prestige double. It was divinely decorated if a tad snug. While there wasn't tea and coffee in the room, we could go to reception and have tea and coffee at no charge which was just lovely. Their friendly approach, helpfulness and attention to detail was just perfect - I couldnt recommend it highly enough.

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Canal Grande for our 15th wedding anniversary. What a great choice it was! The room was decorated beautifully and we had a nice view of the Grand Canal. The staff was friendly and helpful. They assisted us with directions to our restaurant for dinner and helped to arrange for a water taxi to the airport at very early hour.

This hotel was completely redone last year and it is in perfect condition. The location is wonderful, the breakfasts are excellent and the staff extremely kind. If you arrive by train with heavy suitcases, don't try to walk the short distance because the two bridges have a hundred stairs. Grab a Vaporetto and go one to stop east on the Grand Canal to Riva di Riaiso and walk two minutes back to the hotel. Pay the upgrades for a room on the canal.
