Hotel Reviews Ca' San Trovaso

The room was ok, with two major flaws. There was a large crack in the floor, following the footprint of the bed around the room. Whenever anyone took a step out of the bathroom, or stepped loudly in another room, the floor shook with hard vibrations. The first morning, I took the second shower and there was no hot water for me (the person before me took a short shower). The second morning, I took the first shower and there was still no hot water, as guests from another room were already up. Unbelievable. Since this is Venice, the room was absurdly expensive and there was no hot water either morning for me in the shower. This is quite unacceptable and very upsetting. I realize rent is high here, but with all the money they're getting for these small hotel rooms, they should be able to invest in another water heater or three. It's difficult for me to review this room and think about anything except for the price and the lack of hot water. We received breakfast in the morning consisting of a cappuccino and small croissant. The second morning we did not get one because we left before they serve breakfast, which is understandable. At this price, however, they could have given us one of the croissants the night before and just left it in the plastic wrap. The location is on a nice little canal which you can get to by walking from the Zattere stop a little ways. Because of the lack of hot water, I can not recommend this hotel to anyone and hope Rick Steves will take it out of his book.

A quiet room with a canal view - what could you expect more? If it was not Venice one could complain that 100 euros is too much. But it is Venice, and it is quiet, and it is 5 minutes walk from Peggy Guggenheim, 5 more from the Academia and 5 more from everything else.

I'm usually not the complaining type, but I have to be honest and let future travellers know that I was rather disappointed with this B&B. First of all, the staff (name withheld) was not at all friendly and welcoming. He was moody and ignorant about his own guests. For example, he was not warm to us. He did not even greet us when we arrived. It's the first impressions one gets that sets the tone. If we had not been charged for our room booking, we would've decided against staying there. The room was very old-fashioned with "Victorian" decor. It looks rather depressing and the smallness of its size does not help cheer our mood. Breakfast was also served in this tiny room, and it did not feel like a good start to the day. Breakfast was plain and simple and we thought that they could've done much better. There's also no air-con in this room. There is a fan on the ceiling but it looks as if it's not properly attached! In summary, for the amount that we paid, we could have been somewhere else much nicer with better service. I do not recommend to any travellers who are looking for a good time in Venice.

Stayed at Ca' San Trovaso for a long week-end, 6th time in Venice. Love the Dorsoduro area, not exactly San Marco but within walking distance from everything and less touristic. Small comfy hotel, quiet area, great hospitality. No public areas, breakfast in the room which is fine by me. Would recommend it, not expensive for Venice.

While we loved Venice, and the location and room were good, the offerings did not match those quoted. "Breakfast" is black coffee and packaged pastries, in the room, as there is no public place to eat or meet. There are not any staff around much of the time. You're on your own.

The room was fine, fairly small, basic, but clean and bed was comfortable. Extremely small shower. We would have had trouble if we were not thin. Rooftop patio and stairs leading up to it are rundown. Perfectly fine room if you plan to spend the day out and sightseeing (which we did). Very simple breakfast.

Though the location was difficult to find initially (what isn't in Venice though - notice the Per S. Marco signs pointing in every direction at once), the staff was great, and it was nice to have our breakfast brought to us...it acted as our "wake-up call." Overall, the stay was great and the price very reasonable...Thank you...

Nice litte hotel in a quiet residential feeling area and within close walking distance to Campo San Barnabas and Campo Santa Margherita, generally good for the money, but the sound within the building travelled probably due to an abundance of tiled floors and hard surfaces, and in the mornings it would be normal to be woken up by the staff delivering breakfast and talking in reception from 7.30-8 onwards, except when the owners son was on duty on the last day, he seemed to make a special effort not to bash up and down the stairs!

I can really recommend this nice little hotel for everyone who doesn't need big public hotel rooms but just a nice room to stay. The rooms are decorated with nice antique furniture and a clean bath room. The hotel is only a few minutes walk away from several public transport boat stations.

The location is very central, though quiet: close to the Accademia bridge and to the vaporetto service to the airport, there's a Billa supermarket nearby and some nice restaurants. I was alone but recieved a room for three, so it was extremely spacious, practically a small apartment. The rooms are renovated and inviting, and classically designed. Breakfast is searved in the rooms from 0900 to 1030 which was a little bit late. There was a closet that opened into a small kitchen set inside it, but there was no phone or tv.

My stay at the hotel Ca'San Trovaso was perfect. The location is far enough from the crowded touristy areas, yet you can walk to the Academia bridge in about 10 minutes or less.. beautiful! Also, it is very close to campo San Margherita, which is very lively at night, perhaps more than any other campo I experienced. I would highly recommend this hotel for a great quiet stay in a real neighborhood of Venice. Also, there is a large grocery not 5 minutes away, which saved me alot of money on restaurants for my daytime travels.. just pack a lunch and go! The staff were all very helpful with any questions I had. Transportation (vaporetto) are very close by. A+++++++++++++

My husband and I were very happy with the situation of this B&B as it was out of the main areas and quiet. However it was only a couple of minutes to the outer Canal where there is plenty of activity, restaurants, and afternoon sunshine. Also easy access by vaporetto to the Railway Station and other parts of interest. About a 5-7 minute walk through to the Grand Canal. Have a little map and even then you will get lost in the maze of little alleyways. 2 flights up with no lift but good exercise. Room and e/suite only adequate in size but comfortable. Breakfast on table in room promptly delivered. Could leave bags for the last day before catching train. Expensive for what it is but that's Venice.

My fiancée and I enjoyed staying at this property. It was conveniently located within a 5 minute walk of the vaporetto stop, although we had to cross three bridges to arrive at the property. The main bridge had a ramp for wheeled luggage, however the second two did not requiring us to carry our overpacked suitcases up and down 20 stairs for each bridge. Not a huge problem, but good to keep in mind if your mobility is impaired. The room was exactly as depicted on the website, clean and comfortable, overlooking a quite canal. The hotel is on the west end of the island in a more residential (read less touristy) area, and about a 15 minute walk to St Mark’s square. There is a public square about 5 minutes inland from the hotel with many restaurants and pizzerias whose patrons appeared to be a mix locals and tourists and the prices more reasonable than elsewhere. Given location and price, this is a wise choice for hotel.

Very charming hotel, just far enough from the "touristy" areas to be quiet, but still close enough to walk to everything. Everyone was very nice and helpful. It was great to have the breakfast brought to our rooms each morning as well. There is a quiet little patio on the roof that is a good place to drink your coffee in the morning. Also, the directions provided are pretty straight forward, and we had no problem at all finding the hotel. I would definitely recommend this property.

The people at the front desk were extremely helpful and let us leave our luggage with them while we spent the last day in the city. Our room was very pretty and comfortable. The hotel is located in the university area of the city so the surrounding area is much younger and is livelier than other parts of Venice. The hotel is not far from Campo San Margarita, an area with many bars and cafes that are open late and night and early in the morning. Another nice thing about this hotel is the proximity to a Billa grocery store.

This hotel was nice. It had a great location of being near the grand canal. Many other reviews say that this hotel is very difficult to find, but don't let that deter you because that is pretty much true of EVERYTHING in Venice. Once you do find the hotel though, it had a very sweet staff, and a clean room. My only complaint, and it's really not that big of a deal, is that when I came in late (11:30pm), the receptionist was sleeping, I had to knock for her to let me in the lobby, an when she did, she "shushed" me, because the rest of the hotel was sleeping. I thought that was a little odd. But, I would definitely stay there again, there were no other problems.

Very clean and charming hotel. Breakfast in the room was lovely and very convenient. Location was great - close to tourist attractions but far enough away to avoid street noise. Safe to come back late at night (I was a single female traveler). Generally, the hotel could use an update but it was very clean and for the price certainly fulfilled my expectations. I would stay here again.

Hotel was a little old looking, but still in good condition. The lady that was there the night we arrived was a little rude, but all other hotel employees were nice. Breakfast is boring-bread, butter, and sweet croissants, capp. and juice. No view out the window except a brick wall. There was an disgusting smell coming from the bathroom drains the last night of our stay that was repulsive, but it went away after a few hours! It was a convenient walk to a vaporetto stop and easy to get to places. I would definantly recommend asking a local where the hotel is after you get off the water taxi. I don't think we would have found it with the directions fromt he internet alone!

Ca' San Trovaso is a pleasant, small pensione run by a kind and helpful family. It is in a brilliant position, close to the Accademia, but you wake up to see children walking to school by the side of a quiet canal. There are excellent restaurants, bars and shops close by.Breakfast served in the room is ok, but could be perfect if someone could pop to the baker for some fresh rolls and croissants. We were encouraged to try Ca' San Trovaso by the good reviews we read here, and we not disappointed.

Welcome - there was none, next day returned to be told that we had the key when we had left it at the front desk that morning.Asked when we would like breakfast as it was to be delivered to the room - delivered sharply at that time. wouldnt stay in a place that didnt have a room for breakfasts again and some flexibility. Breakfast - one croissant and one tiny roll per person. butter and jam only. Venice is expensive, location great but service and value not there. Instructions on location not good - street address not shown on maps so should provide more detailed instructions on website.

The hotel was excellent for those who don't need TV or phone in their room. There aren't any. Breakfast was "italian", a croissant and a roll of bread, butter, "hotel" jam and coffee with milk they call Cappucino, but I don't. No big deal. It was extremely quiet. Not far from the center but still far from heavy tourism activity and noise. The people were very nice and helpful. Bathroom was OK and shower was hot except one morning when it was warm enough (not hot enough if you like it hot, but warm enough for most people). Note that the hotel address is given as "calla de le romite" while on all maps the street reads "calla delle eremite" (ermits). It means the same thing but if you don't know it, you can feel it is difficult to find. As one relatively cheap hotel in Venice, I warmly recommend it without any restrictions.

The Ca' San Trovaso is located in a lovely, less touristy area of Venice yet is still within walking or vaporetta distance from all the top sites. The room was clean and quiet and had ample space for what you need to do in a room when you're in one of the most beautiful cities in the world which is not a whole lot except sleep and shower. The ceiling fan was quite a welcome treat and provided the necessary ventillation to beat the heat. The staff was present at all hours and was very punctual with the breakfast served in your room at whatever time you desired. While this room service was quite nice, one warning about the "cappuccino". We requested cappuccino as our hot beverage of choice not thinking twice seeing as we were in Italy, land of amazing coffee. However, we are quite certain that they served us instant coffee, something like International Flavors Cappuccino Variety, because it was definitely not made with real coffee or real milk for that matter. As much as I criticize this flaw, this really was no big deal in the scheme of things as there were a variety of nearby cafes where we could get an authentic cappuccino or anyother variety of coffee before starting out on our day. Overall I would highly recommend the Ca' San Trovaso. It provided all that you needed from a room-cleanliness, quietness, comfort, and was located in a nice area of the city with many lovely dining options. (Try the Enoteca/Osteria San Barnaba. It's wonderful!)

Ca' San Trovaso was wonderful. Clean, friendly, in a quiet area, but close to most 'sights.' Due to a one day strike in France (never travel Air France) my arrival was delayed by a day. Though they had every right to demand payment for this uncancelled reservation, they didn't charge me for the night I wasn't there. I'd stay there again in a second.

My daughter and I spent over two hours, with bags, trying to find this place. There is not a flag, banner, sign of any kind and the maps leave alot to be desired in Venice. Their address system makes no sense. Couple that with a communication barrier, it was frustrating and almost scary as night approached. Still don't know how we found it. The place itself was clean, good shower, good location and nice young lady who welcomed us. The next morning our host had few words and not a smile. Although the coffee he brought to our room was nice. Next time in Venice we'll stay at a hotel that's more than likely lots more expensive but easy to find.

Perfectly nice and small hotel. The've just what you need: a good and clean bed (just a bit short for dutch people) and a clean bathroom with a warm shower.

A good small hotel very close to the Zatterre water bus stop (ideal for travelling by water bust from the airport - takes about an hour) and within easy walking distance of all the main sites. Good sized triple room (for two people) with a canal view. The downside is that the canal comes alive at about 6am with boats chugging past; this is either endearing or annoying, depending on how late you went to bed and how well you slept! But then again, any canalside room in a Venice hotel will have similar noise conditions. Overall, very good value for money.

We had a great stay in Venice, this hotel is in an easy to find location if you know which stop to get off the local ferry.

Friendly atmosphere, with staff always willing to help. Great pizzaria restaurant downstairs, with reasonably priced food. Breakfasts are nice. Didn`t have aircon in room, but there where large patio doors leading to balcony. 10 mins from Riva or Torbola by car. Overall a nice place. Would stay there again.

An excellent location, easy walking distance to all the main attractions as well as being within an Italian part of the city. Highly recommended.

Great place to stay! We really enjoyed it for our honeymoon in June 2004. The hotel is also located in the least touristy, very quite, beautiful neighborhood of Venice (Dorsoduro), and close to everything.

We enjoyed our stay very much. The staff were generally very pleasant and helpful. One small point worth mentioning is that there were no drinkink glasses or beakers provided in the room.

We LOVED our time at Ca' San Trovaso. Everyone there was wonderful (Marco, Christina, Alessandro and the others) - very accommodating and helpful. Our room was quite large and looked out on a lovely, small canal. We loved our location - easy to walk to everthing - and being in a neighborhood. Waking up to the sounds of lapping water, of children going off to school and people going about their everyday business was especially lovely. It was also a special treat to have breakfast served in our room. I would definitely recommend San Trovaso to anyone traveling to Venice.

Ahh Venice, we had quite the time trying to find this hotel. But then we got lost constantly in Venice. The map could use a little more defining. We had a room over a canal with a rooftop patio that we put to use almost everynite. The hotel was very accomodating and everything was as promised. I would recommend staying here as it was quiet and a pretty good location.

Small and very friendly hotel. Good quite location but less than 5 minutes from bars and restaurants. Rooms are well furnished in traditional Venetian style.

I'd like to state that we did enjoy our stay at Locanda San Trovaso very much indeed. Rooms are pretty big for local standards, and so are the beds. Breakfast is decent and gets served in your room. Since some previous visitors have mentioned that breakfast is scarce and served with instant coffee, I'd like to add that what you actually get is a regular continental breakfast with fresh breadrolls, croissants, cookies, butter, jam etc. and good freshly brewed coffee (definitely not instant!), which was just perfect for us. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel is situated in a very quiet and charming, genuinely venetian part of the city, right beside a picturesque small canal, and therefore perfect for those who'd like to get out of the touristic hustle in the centre (though Piazza San Marco is just some 15 minutes away, and the next vaporetto stop 2 minutes).

We enjoyed our stay. The floor in the room was damaged. Everything else met or exceeded our expectations. Breakfast was simple and was served in our room...nice. Very quiet area of Venezia. Don't over look it!

Our stay was very nice and the assistance by the staff in helping us understand the transportation to the airport and other locations, via water bus, was very helpful. The location was perfect for us and the directions to the hotel from the airport were accurate. The one minus was the breakfast. Compared to others on our trip, this was by far the most disappointing. A basket of sealed crackers and croissants on our table when we arrived served as the substance for the next morning's food. When you expect fresh items, these were very unappetizing. Delivered to our room was juice and coffee. For the price we expected a more inviting morning.

German people shouldn´t expect to much from breakfast since this is not at all our standard. Breakfast will be served in the room consisting of a wrapped croissant and zwieback. The level of prices is high compared with other regions, however, acceptable for Venice

Clean, quiet and friendly. Set on a beautiful small canal, with no noise at night, but not too far from some good places to eat and drink. The roof-terrace is not as much to write home about as the website might make you think - two yards by five with plastic chairs - but everything else was as advertised. Seems to be relatively good value.

Good, clean, reasonably-priced accommodation in a quiet and convenient area of Venice. The Locanda San Trovaso's staff were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed sitting in the "altana" on warm Venetian evenings.

We had the most wonderful stay at Locando San Trovaso. Do not be put off by the location. All the main areas of interest are within very easy walking distance. We really loved the Taverna San Trovaso as recommended by the hotel. There is a grocery store and great wine bar close by. There are two vaporetta stops within a couple of minutes walk;one is particularly useful for the water bus to the airport. Breakfast is adequate, but for spotlessly clean accomodation with excellent bathroom facilities, helpful staff, convenient yet tranquil location it offers very good value for money.

The hotel is extremely easy to reach by Venice public transport. There are a few good cafes located nearby, and many art shops. The rooms do not have a TV or tea/coffee making facilities which may or may not be a problem to most people. We enjoyed our stay but did miss not having a TV when we returned to our room for the night.

How to reach Hotel Ca' San Trovaso

By car
From Tronchetto parking area, take the waterbus n.82 and get off at the Zattere stop. From the boat stop, exit on the left, straight on, then cross the Pontelongo bridge. Straigh on for about 100 metres, until you will see on your right, a big white building with flags: turn right and walk through Calle Trevisan. Cross two small bridges: We are on the right, Calle Pometti door 1351.
From the Accademia waterbus stop, keep the right and walk through the Calle Gambara, until you reach Canale San Trovaso. Then turn left, walk through Fondamenta Priuli and cross Ponte San Trovaso the second small bridge. Then turn left, straight on, pass the church until you find Campo San Trovaso. Cross the square, taking the right corner, and walk through Fondamenta Bonlini. Cross then the small bridge (not the left one). Immediately on your right, you will find Calle Pometti door 1351.

By train
From the Santa Lucia railway station, take the vaporetto line 51 or 82 and get off at the Zattere stop.

By airplane
From Venezia-Marco Polo airport, proceed by the Alilaguna shuttle and get off at the Zattere stop. From the boat stop, exit on the left, straight on, then cross the Pontelongo bridge.
