Cyprus, Dec 2009
Hotel Belle Epoque is excellent in service and the breakfast was great! We stayed in a twin but converted to a double. We liked specially the Venetian design of the hotel and I would recommend the hotel to my friends. We also like to commend Raul the waiter during breakfast, he was good in his job. We will definitely go back to Hotel Belle Epoque

I would highly recommend this hotel. It is close to the train station and the bus loop, which is important because getting around Venice is not easy with heavy luggage. The price is also low for comparable hotels. The rooms are clean, although small (I would imagine all hotel rooms are small in Venice). The breakfast is quite good and included in the price. Also, the staff is very friendly and helpful. In the room I stayed in, it was very quiet, however the walls were quite thin. I could hear the toilets and water running from the neighbouring rooms. However, I believe this is unavoidable for any hotel in this price range, since the buildings are very old.

The hotel was clean, convenient, and friendly. However our satisfaction with the hotel was spoiled by an incident. The maid threw away an irreplaceable item that was left in a plastic bag in the room. The front desk stated that nothing should be left in plastic bags as it could be mistaken for garbage. However the maid did remove ONE item from that very plastic bag, yet threw away the other item in the bag. I would recommend this hotel but beware of leaving ANYTHING in plastic bags.

Ideal in terms of location for good, reasonably priced (for Venice) facilities and the train and bus station. Hotel was comfortable, not too highly priced (for Venice) especially with current strength of Euro and weakness of UK Pound.

We spent 3 nights at Belle Epoque. Good location, nice look (rooms are very decorated), good breakfast, helpful staff. Negative: bad smell outside (we could not let the window open, quite small room (but that is a general problem in Venice), air conditioned started automatically when we left the room. I reccomend the hotel and would return there for short trips.

The only negative I encountered was the gentleman who maned the front desk in the afternoon and early evenings. He was curt and rather abrupt when I asked simple questions. One time I had to wait at least 5 minutes while he was on a personal phone call, he just ignored me. Otherwise I was very pleased with our stay. The room was small but very adequate. It was quiet, a/c worked well and the bathroom was very adequate. The directions given were very good and it's location so close to the train station, was great.

Belle Epoque will forever be a part of my special memories of visiting the majical city of Venice. My room was quiet, clean, well furnished and very comfortable. The bathroom was also clean and spacious. I was very amused by the silk padded walls and the mirrors on the ceiling. I had travelled to the area to run a half marathon, and even with my large apetite I found the breakfast to be more than ample with good variety. The coffee served was close to the best I experienced in Italy. The hotel's location is excellent. It is very close to the train station so walking with luggage to the hotel is easy. The thousands of interesting shops and resteraunts begin immidiately outside the front door, and once beginning down the first narrow street I didn't stop exploring until many hours later. A turn from the hotel's front door in the other direction leads one to either the first beautiful foot-bridge across the main canal or the water transit station. After a three day stay I saddly left Venice by train for Florence. However, while on the train I realized I had left my pasport and valuables in the hotel safe back in Venice. I wasn't even upset that I had to get off the train in Balogne to return to the Belle Epoque one more time to get my pasport, and also to have one more pizza and beer beside the canal. And to say final good-bye's to the most friendly staff at the Belle Epoque. I plan to return next year with my wife. Another stay at the Belle Epoque is part of the Venice experience I hope to share with her.

The only disconcerting fact about this hotel is that the lift goes only upto the 3rd floor. One has to carry luggage one floor up to the fourth floor where we had two rooms. When I asked at the reception about the lift the man said "be thankful there is a lift to the third floor. In three star hotels you dont have any lifts, but we have one upto the third." It was quite rude, but perhaps it only sounded rude because he did not speak good good English. It aslo made me think that he had a myopic vision about the hotel industry as many two star hotels also have lifts. In one block there is no lift at all. My room was in this block, the stairs were steep and I did not bother to take my luggage up at all. Its quite an inconvenience in an otherwise excellent hotel.

Location is great, 3 minutes walk from St Lucia Train Station. Virtually you can go anywhere from here. Hotel room is well decorated. A triple room we book eventually doesn't have lift access, so taking big luggage would be issue. But for other rooms we stayed have lift. Breakfast is Italian standard, good but not many varieties.

I've a disability and the Venere.com din't said nothing about that...Finally, the man have offered me a double room in ground floor. But I was very nervous...

Habitaciones reformadas. We stayed 2 days. Poor buffet breakfast, like in all North Italy hotels where I've stayed. A stupid half-bald recepcionist told me I didn't know speak english (because I didn't understand his answer) and later we got to another conclusion: it was him who didn't speak (because he didn't understand my question and answered anything). Rest of thing were OK, 1 minute or less far from trains in the main street. Renovated rooms.

We paid 80 Euros and got the highest quality in Venice! It's a 3 star hotel located conveniently near the train station (3 min walk) and on a main street of Venice. The hotel is very elegant with beautiful decor. Breakfast was included. We had a large bathroom and a balcony in the back of the hotel so it was quiet. I will always stay at Belle Epoque if I ever go to Venice again and would recommend it to everyone!!!

our room was clean, quite and looked good. however, we did not have a safe or fridge in our room. the breakfast was reasonable, except for the very cramped servicing area and uncovered dishes. the location was great and close to the train station. the main down-side to this hotel was the service from one reception employee (Franco) in particular. he was very rude on our arrival and also later when we asked for a blanket (when all our blankets from our wardrobe were removed). instead he just shut off our A/C which meant we had no ventilation. when we reported this to him (he was on overnight), he became angry as if it was our problem that the A/C was too cold and that there were no blankets in our room! he refused to bring us a blanket or turn up our thermostat (there were no temperature controls in the room) until i went down myself to confronted him about this at reception. he then turned up our thermostat (requiring only a few seconds of work!) and got a blanket for us. i was very disappointed by this lack of courtesy and service by the hotel staff, and it should not have come to that! other hotel staff were more reasonable.

This hotel would have been a "perfect 10" were it not for the seeming lack of interest of the staff, especially the staff at the front desk. They never seemed to smile or make eye contact or initiate conversation. They never asked, "How is everything?" or even said, "Hello" or "Have a nice day" when we walked past the front desk. And yet, we'd go there again in a heartbeat. Why? We thought it was the best deal in town. Warning: Even though there are elevators, depending on the room you're given, you could still need to climb some serious stairs.

Staying in this hotel I got the feeling that at one time it may have been a popular, busy hotel but now it is empty and a bit sad. The location of the hotel as about 20 minutes walking from Sorrento, and a 10 minute bus ride which is pretty infrequent. While the location was inconvenient the area was nice and quite and there was a beautiful restaurant on the cliff side down the block. So if you are looking for a quite hotel outside of the touristy hustle of Sorrento, this place is for you.

Breakfast was quite satisfying. We were welcomed by a desk clerk who was rather sparing with words in any language so we did not receive the usual Italian welcome that you can usually rely upon. Also one of the rooms allocated to us was accessed via a very steep open tread wooden staircase leading to some sort of annex building which also had a very low roof, so was totally inappropriate for either of the two middle aged couples for this booking. That said we immediately asked for a room change as was given one, but again without a word from the desk clerk. However after a staff shift change we came across more client friendly reception staff, the complete opposite in fact, which restored our belief that Italians are once of the friendliest of people. The rooms were clean and quiet despite being only a few yards from the main hustle and bustle of the train station and water taxi depots. The only other comment I would make, is that although the breakfast was very good and plentiful, the area in which the buffet was served was more like a small galley kitchen on a boat than a hotel and as one large party of Americans all needed to eat together so as to leave together, it made breakfas a bit of a rush and push event which was unfortunate because the dining room itself was very nice and the staff very helpful and pleasant.

My husband and I stayed there for 2 nights. The hotel is not cheap but this is Venice! Recently renovated, decor is very luxuriant and 'belle epoque' and attention to detail for room decor is to be appreciated. Location is good, just next to Ferrovia station and walking distance from Piazzale Roma (not a friendly walk if you carry heavy luggage though). There are many shops and restaurants on the same street (Lista di Spagna). Breakfast, included in our rate, was pretty diverse (not just the usual continental croissants) and staff friendly and accommodationg. We'd stay there again.

I didnt read all the reviews before I went, but mainly went by the main rating which I dont agree with - it had above 8. . However,I also needed a place close to the station so that had a part to play in my decision. But then if I had had a different room it might have been a different experience. As it happens I had a small dark room, and the dark brocade material and huge chandellier above the bed made it feel claustrophobic. As usual, the plumbing wasnt good, so one could hear everyone else using their showers, toilets etc. You might ask why I didnt change rooms, but I was only there for 2 nights and had little free time. The breakfast room didnt have any windows so I felt light deprived during my time in the hotel. Venice is difficult, I know, there are few single rooms and every little available space is used.

Nice hotel, however we did have some major concerns. When we arrived at the hotel, there was no staff member at the desk or within sight. This ordinarily would not have been a problem if it weren't for the pile of 25 passports sitting right on the desk. Had we been of a less honest nature we could have walked right out with these passports and never have anyone say a word. This concerned us very much and once a staff member did arrive to check us in, we refused to give him our passports. We offered to give him the copies we had brought with us in case out passports were stolen. This took a lot of arguing but he finally gave in. Another concern was that the bed was actually made of two smaller matresses pushed together into one that were constantly coming apart. There was nothing holding them together. This is quite a problem for a young couple who would like to cuddle. My girlfriend and myself were extremely uncomfortable as we each kept falling into "the crack" as we came to call it. This really was a let down. On a positive note, the hotel was perfectly located. Very close to Ferrovia water-bus stop, the train station as well as Plaza Roma where the bus from the airport stops.

The hotel is really nice, located in an excellent position to move around in every part of the town. I had a wonderful stay. Breakfast could be more various. Exscellent Hotel, however!

We had a spacious room at the back of what is a large hotel. Very comfortable bed, with excellent bathroom, lift and good quality breakfast room. Very accessible location for Venice, just 100 metres from the train station and canal transport - you'd get lost trying to find anywhere else to stay. Plenty of basic restaurants and services nearby. It would be popular (and probably noisier for some of the rooms) in the peak season. Reception staff not so useful with information.

Good location....but very eccentric hotel. In October they had just switched their Air con system over to heating only and it was baking hot. We had to open the window and the noise from the side alley was dreadful....from around 5 a.m. Wierd take on rococco design... the mirrored bedroom ceiling was the most memorable aspect of this stay!! Beware the restaurant opposite the hotel on the canal...shockingly bad, with of course rude staff...but that's a given for Venice!

Belle Epoque was a fantastic value for the price! Recently remodeled, the rooms were nicely furnished and decorated. Beautiful tile in the bathroom and a hair dryer provided. Nice large balcony. Full breakfast including meats, cheeses, eggs, fruits, juices, breads, cappuccino, etc. served buffet style in a gorgeous dining room. All the staff were competent, helpful and friendly. Fellow travellers were all personable as well.

The Hotel Belle Epoque was in a fabulous location very close to the train station. The hotel and room itself were delightfully decorated and reasonably quiet. The wait staff was nice and attentive. There were two huge drawbacks though. When I sincerely asked for the proper pronounciation of "bon journo" from the man behind the desk, as I walked away, he verbally mocked me. It's a shame that this one person spoiled my view of the hotel. Plus, I walked away the next day with 16 begbug bites. While my friend only got one bite, the bugs seemed to feast on me. The place seemed quite clean but please, if anyone chooses to stay there, check for bugs. Diane

We stayed one night here because hotel accomodations not available at hotel we desired. Was put up into converted attic. We had two rooms, both would be classified as double. Worn out bed, up a 12" wide staircase that was dangerous to climb. Not particularly hospitable. Would classify as an OK stay. Stayed at Abbazia for 3 nights after this and for $40 more a night, got EXCELLENT service and accomodations. Could actually sleep on bed.

Hotel was beautiful, just as beautiful as the pictures. Rooms were a decent size (for european standards) and beautifully decorated. The location was perfect - literally a 2 minute walk from the train station. Would definitely stay here again.

Most staff members were extremely courteous and always willing to help. They know how to speak many different languages to help clients from almost all over the world. They were very knowledgeable about tours, shopping etc. However, they were short-staffed on the night of our arrival, forgot to separate the beds, gave us the sheets, and we had to make the beds ourselves. Other than that, great place to stay in a great location.

Great Hotel with a great 'Venicean' feel and decorated very nicely. In terms of staying somewhere with Venicean atmosphere/decorations without paying the price of the luxury hotels this place is perfect! Close to 'water-bus' station and main station it is easy to track down and serves a nice breakfast in the morning! Everything else as Ive rated it!

Great location in relation to the train station. Lots of shopping close by, and some good food as well.

This hotel was very clean and very close to the train station. Maybe 1 city block away, walk out of the train station turn left and its on the left no bridge to cross..The breakfast was great.. It really was better than anything I have ever gotten in Europe. I could have a second cup of cappaccino. The price was great for peak season, great location I would stay there again. We had a triple in the room and it was enough room to sleep and move around..what more do you need? I would recommend eating at La Madonna it where the locals eat.. it's near the rialto.

If you are looking for an extremely quiet hotel very close to the train station then look no further. It is the quietest hotel room I have ever stayed in. Their breakfast was excellent, the staff knowledgeable and there was no problem with English. The rooms are small which is typical for Europe so don't be looking for a typical American hotel room.

The hotel is very near to the train station and close to the water busses making your travel in Venice very comfortable. This was a huge plus for us. The rooms very just about comfortably spacious, but were too much for the price we were paying. However, the prices of hotels in Venice in July skyrocket due to touristic season. The staff was not comfortable with English and thus the communication had few gaps making welcoming unsatisfactory. However, later when our rooms bathroom was not functioning properly, the manager changed our room to a bigger room. The rooms also had good Air condition as Venice can get hot during July. Overall, it was a decent experience.

Staff were unwelcoming, no smiles, no greetings. No explanation of breakfast times etc. Leaking in bathroom with badly stained ceiling and flaking plaster. Good location and easy to find on arrival.
