Lovely hotel, very picturesque, easy to find, conveniently close to Giglio vaporetto stop, San Marco, Fenice theatre and Rialto. The view from our two rooms on the third floor was completely gorgeous, all the equipment worked properly including air conditioning which came handy since it was over +30C outside. Very impressive breakfast+cappuccino/latte... what else could a traveller want?

We arrived late at the Hotel following a delayed flight and we were pleased that the night receptionist had a warm welcome for us. Our room was suitably placed near to the lift (I'm disabled and in a wheelchair). The room had it's own terrace and although we didn't have a view of the church or the canal we could still hear the echos of the Gondolas beyond the wall. We partook of breakfast outside whenever we could and we have to say that the breakfasts rank alongside the best we have ever had. The hotel is very conveniently situated not far from two main squares - St Marks is in one direction and San Stefano is in the other. The latter is very good for restaurants and Paolin, famous for their superb ice cream, is also there. Just a bit further down from the hotel is a hidden walk that will take you to La Fenice too. Through the entirety of our five day stay we were treated with the utmost kindness throughout and nothing was ever too much for the hotel staff. If we ever go to Venice again we would certainly stay at the Bel Sito again but having now been twice to this glorious city, and my disability getting worse, I fear that we may never be able to again. This is solely down to using a wheelchair and we realise now that Venice is not meant for wheelchairs :(

Justin & Luciana

Hotel was in a great location. Size of rooms varied considerably. Room 29 very spacious. Room 28 much smaller. Bathrooms small but clean and functional. Breakfast excellent with small terrace. Views from rooms either towards cathedral or over canal. Service inconsistent depending on which member of staff you were dealing with. Would stay here again.

I had a double room. The room and bathroom was extremely small. I had to put chair on cupboard to fit two medium sized suitcases and a baby stroller in the room. Excellent location, decent breakfast, clean, staff was friendly. Overall decent value for money.

We got a good price on Venere. The location is excellent. It's close to the vaporetto stop with no bridget to cross with bags. 6 min to San Marco & 12 min to Rialto bridge. I loved the outdoor eating area, altho it could have been bigger. The breakfast was very good. Besides the meat, cheese, yogurt, pastries, cereal, juices, there was boiled eggs. The room was small, clean and had a great view of the church and piazza. The staff was very helpful when we had a lost passport. They made phone calls for us and directed us to the Carabiniari. Most spoke good English. I would stay here for sure if I return.

Aside from the amazing location, the hotel has many more qualities: cleanliness, politeness of staff, great breakfast. The only negative side, in case you're planning on staying more than a couple of days, is the small size of the rooms (at least of my room). The sound of church bells (fantastic church right in front of the hotel entrance) is a pleasant alarm clock!

We stayed 3 days in Venice so we didn't have too much time to waste on commuting between the hotel and the places to visit. The fact that the Bel Sito hotel is located close both to the piazza San Marco and a ferry station is very convenient. The employees at the reception desk speak correctly several foreign languages which makes life slightly easier. The kind of clientele seems to be broad (young couples, mature couples, families, several nationalities - french, italian, german, english and probably more).

Fantastic location, my room faced directly onto the facade of St Maria del Giglio. The hotel is about a two-minute walk from the Giglio vaporetti stop and five or six from St Mark's Square. The breakfasts were very good by Italian standards and for people like me who don't drink tea or coffee, it has a better selection of herbal and fruit teas than many four-star places in England. The twin room I stayed in was reasonably-sized by European city standards. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Price wasn't too bad considering that for hotel accommodation Venice is expensive.

The hotel is in a perfect location halfway between the Accademia and St. Mark's Square. I had a single room which was fairly small but more than compensated for by the wonderful view of the church from my window.

I stayed at the hotel for 2 nights and found the staff very welcoming, and the hotel ideally situated. It's proximity to St Mark's Square was key. The area immediately surrounding it is charming with its own "Campo". Our room, however, was a little small, but not unexpected for an older hotel in Venice.

This hotel is in the heart of Venice. Only a few steps to the best gondalas and great restaurants as well as San Marcos Plaza. This was without a doubt the worst hotel experience we have ever experienced. The receptionist guy was not friendly and wasted our time. For example, he requested that we provide the confirmation voucher, then asked for us to sign it, then pushed it back to us. Upon entering the room, it was so small, that it was unacceptable. When we asked for another room, he said no. No mention of a higher price, etc, just no. Fiteen minutes later, my wife took a shower and while in there, the water was backing up into the bathroom and flooded the room. I went downstairs and told them what had happened. The bellboy came up and inspected and agreed that it was unacceptable. Five minutes later, we wewre transferred to another room; a room that they said they did not have for us previously when we asked for another room. The following morning, the breakfast was feeble, to say the least. Needless to say, we checked out that morning and moved across the piazza to the Best Western which had nice helpful people and a great breakfast. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone!!

In June 2008 we stayed 5 nights at the hotel. We had been to Venice a number times before. Remembering that Venice is a unique and uniquely expensive city I would rate the hotel excellent value for money. There are some awful areas to stay in Venice, but this is not one of them. The Gilio area is fabulous, and so close to almost everything you would want to see.Two minutes walk from San Marco and the Accademia, a flat no bridge walk to the vaporetto, close to the Fenice etc. The rooms ate small but spotlessly clean, and the hotel staff are SO friendly and helpful I was honestly surprised. We were assisted with whatever we needed: directions, additional room supplies, ordering a water taxi etc. The room even had a bar fridg and airconditioning, other rarities. Breakfast was included in the price, and it was adequate, but not outstanding. Each morning our very attractive adult daughter would receive her excellent cappuccino with a heart and arrow design in the froth from her equally adult and equally very attractive Italian waiter. When we arrived and left we were assisted with our mountain of luggage, and the staff shook hands with us on departure. We would certainly stay at the Bel Sito again, and use Venere again. One last thing: our top floor room looked over the most beautiful church and the pretty square, which reinforced that we were indeed in a beautifuland special city.

This was a delightful stay. We had originally reserved a room farther out because we had a car rental, but decided to return the car and changed our reservation. We had no idea how this was going to turn out because we didn't get to read any reviews or anything. It was such a wonderful surprise! Loved the hotel, loved the staff, loved our room, loved the cappuccino, loved the location and it was easy to find and I was expecting to have to really hunt to find it. Will likely try to stay there when I return. Great value too. Insider tip- really easy walking distance to San Marco's Square and shopping. Lovely restaurants just around the corner. Couldn't be more pleased with our stay!

this is my second visit (may 2008). Stayed in May 2007 also (not through Venere). Then the room was small and uninspiring, and the breakfast was a joke. Now (2008)the room was a good size, at the front and quite airy. The bathroom was very small. The room was a bit dated, but perfectly good value. The service has become much better and more professional at reception and in the breakfast areas. The breakfast is now perfectly acceptable, ...unlimited use of cereals, fruits, juices, coffees, breads, cakes , cheeses,...(maybe add some cold meats for complete perfection??) I travelled with the same friend for cultural recreational purposes and stayed for six nights. We both think the hotel has improved tremendously on all fronts!!. the location is perfect for Vaporetti, San Marco, Dorsoduro/Accademia and the Lido. The price is good by Venice standards. Will certainly stay again and would recommend strongly based on May 2008 experience.

This is our favourite hotel in Venice. After 30 years of coming to this floating palace - Bel Sito is the best of the best. Like many great hotels in Italy, the owner is always present and aware of what is going on (he is the silent partner hovering in the lobby or behind the front desk). The location if fantastic, a Vapareto (the local water bus) stop is 30' away. Like most of Venice you can get on, going east or west and find something wonderful to call your own memory. The hotel is across from a working church (we got to watch a spectacular wedding) and the local newstand carries the usual selection of English newspapers (on the other hand, who reads newspapers while on holiday?). Breakfast is a feast - start with Rice Crumpies (I have no idea...) and move onto the jam-filled pastries. Wash it all down with coffee the way it was supposed to be made (sorry Star$). The staff are friendly and willing to talk to you if you spend the time. I try to pry out of them the best local eateries (where they go and the menus aren't in English). We stayed in both a double and a single. The single was on the back (much more quiet) facing the canal (if you book a water taxi anywhere they will pick you up here!). The front double includes a view of the facade of the church, but is far enough from the walkways as to not be too noisy (hey if you come to Venice - with no cars/buses what's a few footsteps between friends?). You are 5 minutes from the big square (San Marco etc. etc.) and across the canal one of the more photographed churches (Santa Maria de la Salute). You can take a Tragetto (1/2 a Euro gets you a ride straight across the canal) or use your 1, 2 or 3 day pass for unlimited use of the vaparetto (buy this when you come into town and the clock starts ticking when you take your first trip - a great deal!). There is a covered deck in front of the hotel (only for guests). You can have a drink or just read a book and take in the vibes. If you are

The breakfast was not the usual buffet as was found at other hotels of similar star rating. You were given what could be considered the usual breakfast of a 2 star hotel , that being bread rolls and a crossant. No fruit or cereals or yoghurt. This was our only dissappointment with the hotel. All other service was excellent and the staff were very friendly. The room we had was excellent with a window looking out to the small piazza and church facade. Although the bathroom was very small compared to other hotel rooms of similar price range in other parts of Italy. Well located for easy access from the Giglio stop of vaporetto No1. Easy access to St Marks and the Rialto areas.

Having stayed at the Bel Sito in 2003 I was pleased to be able to return this year, for the location it represents very good value for money, the staff are pleasant and helpful and the beds comfortable. Despite being at the front my room was quiet and the air conditioning effective. The main improvement I noticed since my last visit was the breakfast, the coffee being better than the usual Venetian hotel coffee(why do so many hotels in Venice serve such poor coffee?). Th Bel Sito is clean, comfortable and unpretentious-if you want thick carpets, gilding and marble it is not for you, if you require a good hotel in a central location at a very reasonable price then you should come here.

Hotel Bel Sito was a pleasant place to stay, made even better by the staff who were extremely helpful!!! The location was very good, away from some of the more crowded places but within walking (or easy boating!) distance of all the main sights. Location was our highest priority and this was well located within a short walk of St. Mark's Square and with it's own taxi stop (Giglio)at the end of the square 300 feet from the hotel. Lots of shopping around. While not a wide variety of food it had a very nicely presented breakfast that we still considered above average. Rooms and baths were small and building was older which I would expect is typical in Venice. Not directly on a canal which I did not consider a big negative.Front desk help varied with some gentlemen being more helpful than others. Venice is an expensive city.

I had a very pleasant stay at the Bel Sito....the staff was very helpful and the room, tho' small, was blissfully quiet. One of my favorite experiences was bravely entering the dark, tiny street/alley at the Giglio vaporetto stop and emerging into the bright, lovely square where the hotel is located. Breakfast on the little patio was also lovely.

The main reason I chose this hotel was location--that part was very good--walking distance to St Marco Square, and convenient for vaporetto. Our room was quite small and dingy, and the window opened onto a courtyard, where there was loud conversation past midnight. The option was closing the window, but we like fresh air. The breakfast was poor, the same each of the four days we stayed--a basket with an assortment of cookies, cellophane-wrapped melba toast, a hard roll, a croissant, and packages of butter and jam. A waitress brought coffee, enough for one cup for each of us, no refills. I found the desk staff for the most part unfriendly and unhelpful, and was outraged at having to pay for a city map. I wouldn't stay here again.

This is my third stay at Bel Sito and the rooms appear to have become a bit 'worn round the edges' since my last visit. Otherwise very friendly hotel in perfect location

Great location just minutes from St Marks and a room overlooking gondola packed canals. Good if simple breakfast, very friendly staff.

Great location BUT the price for this hotel was too high considering the small, cramped room provided. The breakfast was minimal and did not include the usual ham and cheese and fruit we found everywhere else in Italy. The staff was a bit aloof and cold, not displaying the usual Italian friendliness and hospitality. I would not stay there again because of these shortfalls and the relatively high cost, even for Venice.

staff fantastically friendly and helpful. don't rely on the map to get you there though....a little tricky to find. a great base for exploring. we had two rooms, one much prettier than the other, and the bathrooms could do with a mini makeover, but the hotel is a budget type so no complaints really. have a good stay

Great location, easy to find and quiet rooms. We would have had a bath instead of a shower but nothing to complain about... Very kind employees. We will go back there.

The best thing of this hotel is its locations, just 5min walking from S.Marco. I would probably change the bed, it was nice and old style but to much noisy for its old spring.

Upon arriving at this hotel I was ushered to my room with minimum information being offered. What time was breakfast? What if I needed to call reception? No information of this persuasion was volunteered and initially I wasn't given the chance to ask. My impression of the desk staff was that while some are helpful others are indifferent to the point of arrogance. My room was situated in a noisy part of the hotel where the nocturnal movements of other guests ensured that I was routinely woken from my slumber. As to the bathroom it was utilitarian but Lilliputian in size. I also found the bed to be like lead with accompanying granite-like pillows. The room that I stayed in had no fridge or mini-bar even though web pages indicate that there is one in every room. Good aspects include breakfast being available until 10.00am and the surrounding area is fantastic with everything of import in close proximity to the hotel. You won't find luxury at this hotel but it isn't overly expensive considering its location. I would also urge future guests to be scrupulous when checking their bill. I realized too late that I had been charged for a telephone call that I'd not made.

The hotel was a little difficult to find but when we got there we were made to feel welcome. The room was a little tired and the bath was not much bigger than a shower tray. However We had the only room with a balcony and a lovely view of the Church of Santa Maria del Giglio which was opposite the hotel. The hotel is only five minutes walk from St.Marks Square. The staff were helpful the breakfast was ok and the air con was the only unit that worked in any of the three hotels that we stayed in Italy

Comparing to the price we expected more. But comparing to Venice it was ok. The room was small but very clean. The bathromm was very clean. Italian breakfast is not very much but it was ok, since you have a lot of snack bars around. The place of the location is perfect. 5 min. to Marcus Square, 10 min. to Accademia. For a 2-3 trip it is fine. If you would like to stay longer, you should choose another location. We had a room to the backyard, which was very quite, but the roms to the front are much more pretty.

The hotel is situated quite close to Plaza San Macro just 5 minute walk and easy to find. The room is quite small but nice decoration. I got room which can view Venice canel. I can listen to men singing and playing music on the gondola which was nice and romantic. Bathroom is ok, a bit small but spacious enough. Breakfast at the hotel is nice for people who love continental breakfast. Overall services impressed me and my husband. Recommend to all to stay in this hotel.

The two best aspects of this hotel are the staff and its location. The front desk staff was friendly, spoke English well and were very helpful with our many questions. As far as the location, we could almost see the Spanish Steps and were walking distance to everything else you would want to see and do in Rome.

Quite roomy, but pricey. Furnishings beautiful, but the carpet was tattered and worn. So-called shower was nozzle attached to tub without a curtain or ability to standup. Staff was functionary, not friendly. Best part was opera singer in the piazza below.

The localation was very good being in the heart of the town, the main attractions are close to the hotel. The room was clean and the ensuite bathroom has recently been refurbished. The room was quiet at night allowing for a undistrubed sleep. The staff were very helpfull and friendly. The price for the room is expensive but you have to pay for a central locaction. Cheaper hotels can be found but they are some distance from the main attractions. I would recommend this hotel if you are prepared to pay a bit extra for the location

Members of the desk staff at Hotel Bel Sito are the very best reason to choose that destination for your visit to Venice. They were all gracious, smiling, attentive, accommodating (and they all seemed to be trilingual or quadrilingual, so daily communication was easy and comfortable). Every encounter at the desk felt warm and genuine. My advice: if you want to experience old European charm, skip the overpriced tourist hotels and let the staff at Hotel Bel Sito make you feel like a real principessa.

I had a great room at the Bel Sito & Berlino Hotel in Venice from July 14th - July 31st. I was originally only staying for a week but decideded to extend the stay. The hotel is located halfway between San Marco and Academia, so it is an easy walk to many places, plus you have access to many vaparetto stops. It is in a quiet spot in the Piazza Santa Maria del Giglio, facing the church, and the outside patio where you have breakfast is a great way to start the day. The staff was friendly and helpful. I recommend this hotel.

A nice hotel in a calm environment; during night, no noise at all, even under opened window. Less than three minutes from the stop of the 'vaporetto' (only line Nr.1 stops here, one station after 'academia', if you come from the railway station). Rather expensive, as everwhere in this city... Television and air conditioning are working perfectly, telephones for abroad are very expensives.

Loved the hotel and its location. Loved the bartender/bell hop. Did not like the clerk on the front desk, he gave me no time for questions upon check in. Also, at a three-star hotel I expect a bit more for breakfast than coffee and croissant. All other three-star hotels where we stayed in Italy served cereal, fruit and yogurt for breakfast.

A really nice hotel, not the grandest in Venice but certainly one of the most welcoming. Rooms were clean and well decorated and staff were friendly and helpful. Close to a Vaporetto stop, very central, but not too noisy. And at a stone's throw from the Gritti Palace, the money you save on your hotel room you can spend on a fantastic meal!
