We are in our 60's yet we had a room on the top floor with no lift. It was only noisy because of the air con. so at least that was something. Breakfast was disappointing with not enough space for everyone. Poor choice & quality of food/drinks. Location is excellent but that is abut it !

The location was excellent for our needs, the rooms were of the quality we expected, the service from the reception staff was very friendly and accommodating and the breakfast was the best of the four hotels we visited in Italy. I would stay at this hotel again when visiting Venice. Note that I have rated Photographs and Location on Map as 0, simply because I have no comment to make on these aspects since I did not use them, not becuse I rate them poorly!

Excellent location and great price, but it all comes with some downsides. Overall, I think is a very good two-star hotel. Complete details bellow: Smallest bathroom I encountered in my trip (at least the shower was great and with very hot water). The wi-fi is charged (12hour of usage - 4 euro as in December/2011) and the reception is poor on the rooms. I tried to use it, but the staff didn't know how to fix their non-functional connection, so they returned my money. The "couple bed" was two single beds that separate in the middle of the night, making it hard to a couple to spend the night close. I also found a bookworm on the bed when searching for bed-bugs. There is no lift for the bags, so be prepared to carry your luggage by stairs. The breakfast is served only between 8-10pm, so if you get up early or latter, be prepared for spending some money eating somewhere else, as I did. The walls seems to be really thin, and after drinking on the Christmas night, it wasn't really nice to be awaken by a vacuum cleaner in a room on the other side of the building.

Staff was excellent and helpful. We checked in and were taken immediately to our room. There is no elevator but they carried my bag up for me. We had 20 hours of free Wifi. They let us cool our wine in their refrigerator, since there was none in the room. Room was comfortable, clean and air conditioned. The breakfast was good, although the breakfast room was small, but we were able to bring food to the room with a tray they provided. The hotel is a located behind the Rialto vaporhetto stop, a little tricky to find at first but follow the directions on the map provided by the hotel and there should be no problem. I will definitely stay there again....

A good value for the money. We were looking for a place to rest and wash up, nothing fancy, and that is what we got. FYI - there are no elevators at this location, in case one is needed. The hotel was hard to find initially, but the location is great once we found it. The front end clerk was very acommodating, they provided us with umbrellas when it was raining (for us to walk around the city) and they stored our luggage for free after checkout while we waited for our train departure time.

Stayed here in the heat of July. The room was basic, clean and relatively spacious. Getting to our room required hauling our luggage up to the 4th floor. The check-in clerk did help us. A/C was adequate, but ran constantly and quietly. Location is on a quiet back street convenient to the Rialto vaporetto stop.

Room on 4th floor was EXTREMELY hot. AC Barely worked and no fan was available. Nothing was "able" to be done about it that night, but after some insistance, were able to move to a different room the next night which was adequate. Carrying luggage up to the 4th floor was a huge hassle, so if you stay here make sure you are traveling light! Location was good - easy to get to from train station, near Rialto Bridge, market, shopping, restaurants, etc.

Friends recommended the Hotel Bartolomeo and we were glad to have taken their advice. Courteous, helpful staff, superb location, and a clean, comfortable room for 70€. Up a few flights of stairs, yes, but the people at the desk were only too willing to help with bags. For our five-night stay we were upgraded to a triple, which was quite spacious. We'll stay at this hotel next time we're in Venice.

We've stgayed in a double room for 2 nights, newly rennovated, clean. Hotel located in the very center of San Marco quarter, few steps from Realto bridge, but in a very quite place. lots of restaurants, cafes, vino bars and shops around. Standard breakfast with bad coffe, Ok to survive untill lunch. Hotel's employee recommended us a very good seafood resto, mostly attended by venetians, with great food and "honest" prices. Probably not the best choice for couples with young children. OK for young and mature couples and groups.

Small hotel tucked away in a quiet corner. Easy to find based on the map given on the website and easy to walk to main tourist attractions. Stayed in July 2008 for one night and room was next to breakfast area which meant more noise early in the morning but that was okay since we had to check out early anyway. Room small but could accomodate a cot for our baby, and the bathroom was clean. Aircon worked well. Breakfast was good with a large selection of yogurt, cereal, juices, breads. Although this hotel does not have an elevator, the hotel staff are very accomodating in helping with luggage. The room was clean, and the hotel was in a good location, however the room had a horrible and strong sewage/mold/garbage smell, so we slept with all of the windows open. By the time we left Venice (3 nights), we both had colds we believe were contracted at this hotel. If this problem is fixed, I would highly recommend this hotel for it's location, cleanliness, and customer service.

Hotel Bartolomeo is near the Rialto Bridge and centrally located for the island of Venice. The staff is friendly and fluent in many languages. Rooms are spacious and well maintained. Our had a quaint slope to the bedroom floor, but the bath floor was level. Breakfast was included in room price and included pastries, breads, yogurt, cereal, coffee and tea. The hotel was close to the "main strip" between San Marco and Piazzale Roma; this helped to start the days wandering in the right direction and simplified finding your way back.

Location is wonderful. It doesn't matter very much in Venice, because is a city that invites you to walk and you can cross in less than an hour walking, but this hotel has an envidiable location. Bartolomeo was a cozy little place somewhat hidden off Piazza Bartolemeo, but well located relative to S. Marco and S. Palo exploration, as well as Vaporetto access. Our room was quite small but ok;the breakfast was good. I doubt the air conditioner would be sufficient on a hot summer day, but it wasn't needed in late Sept. Venice is costly so I feel the rate was good, even relative to the rest of our hotels in Italy. We'd definitely stay here again!

Nice hotel tucked around a corner...once you find it you're good to go...it's that first find that tests. The fact that it is semi-hidden contributes to the quietness of the location. The staff here are multilingual, helpful, and super friendly. Our room was 5 floors up with no elevator so if you're traveling with heavy bags and no muscles - beware. Room was very clean, bathroom was modern, and we had windows that opened over the street below. A/C worked nice. Breakfast is a simple affair - breads, jams, yoghurts, cheeses, etc served with coffee, juices and tea. The hotel location is wonderful - right off Ponte di Rialto - so plenty of restaurants, bars and the like are near by as well as in the center of all tourist action. Overall great value for the money.

We had a lovely stay at hotel Bartolomeo. Although it can be a bit challenging to find initially, once you are there, it is easy to get around and centrally located for walking to the Rialto bridge and San Marco square. We were two women travelling alone and we felt very safe even though it appears as though the hotel is down a dark alley. There are restaurants and bars down the alley that are open at night and therefore people around so it is no problem. The staff are very helpful and professional. Their English is good and they advised us on everything, helped us with the water bus system and stored our luggage on the last day so we could sightsee at our leisure. One note, if you are driving to Venice, when you come out of the parking garage, there may be men directing you to the boats. Make sure you ask if it is a water taxi or a bus. There is a huge difference in cost. You can travel around Venice on the water buses for next to nothing, they have tourist passes that you use endlessly. A water taxi is much more expensive and no more direct. If they are charging E10 per person, you are in the wrong place! it is a short walk to the bus and well worth it.

The reception staff were very friendly and helplful. They all spoke english very well and were very kind. We stayed on the fourth floor, which we requested, and were treated to a view of Venice's roof tops and a view of the tour in San Marco plaza! There is no elevator, so if you are not interested in climbing four long flights of stairs, ask for a lower floor. The room, if slightly small, was clean and simple. The bathroom was immaculate and the shower stall was larger than the usual "cubicle" than we received at other hotels. The surroundings were excellent, but the room was quiet and cozy. It is a little difficult to find, but worth the effort. Expect to get lost at some point in your trip to Venice, it's just part of the adventure! We Loved Venice and we loved this hotel!

My Husband and I stayed for four nights and thoroughly enjoyed the people at Hotel Bartolomeo, they went out of their way to make our stay there a very memorable experience. My Husbands luggage was lost by US Air, the Gentleman at the front desk called the Airlines everyday to check to see if the luggage had been found. Of course it wasn't found and as of October 4th, it is still where-ever US Air decided to deposit it. I am not sure how they lost two pieces of luggage with complete name, address and zip code written on the back of the cases in large permanent marker. We still are hoping that it will be found. We went to our Son and his Fiance's wedding on Saturday afternoon with no formal clothing for my Husband, and the next day twenty of our group boarded the "Splendor of the Seas" for a seven day cruise to Turkey and the Greek Islands. Jim, spent that whole time in 2 pairs of jeans, one pair of brown shoes and 4 tee shirts, thank goodness I packed all of his underware and socks in our carry on bags. Hotel Bartolomeo is within walking distance to shopping areas, St. Marks Square, and wonderful restaurants. Transportation around Venice is no problem as you are only approximatly 1 city block from the Realto Bridge, private water taxis, public water transportation, and Gondola Rides. I would recommend this Hotel to everyone. We feel that we have made new friends. If ever we get to Venice again, we will definately stay there. The only detraction we found was our room was right beside the breakfast area and some mornings we were awaken by the sound of dishes rattling. This was not enough of a problem to change our minds about the wonderful service or the kindness of the employees at the front desk. Nancy & Jim Bowlin

we had a wonderful time at Hotel Bartolomeo with my wife, I recommend the place to any young couple. Just in the center of Venice, its makes it an ideal place to explore the city in any direction. The staff was most helpful, competent, no broblémes with breakfast or reception. Everyone speaks very good English, and all staff is more then happy to help you if needed (e.g. recommending a restaurant, providing you with maps, useful info etc.). I was very pleased that after we checked in, the staff carries our luggage to the room. Indeed, ther is no elevator in the hotel, and it has four floors, so watch out, it may be inconfortable with small kids. On the other hand the view from the room is worth climbing the stairs. We lived on the fourth floor, with a view to the Clocktower. Believe me, it is beautiful. If we go back to Venice, I would definately choose this hotel for the second time as well.

A lovely place in a lovely part of Venice. If you want lucury, this is not for you. But if you want a lovely little hotel perfect for resting between trips to all areas, in a perfect location (less than 1 minute to Rialto bridge) and at a great price... oh, and with a very nice breakfast (bread & coffee), then this is the place for you. I'll certainly be going back...

A great location in Venice. As mentioned, a little difficult to find (take the 82 to Rialto, do not cross bridge, walk away from water to first street intersection, go left (should be open market area) look for sign for WC bathroom up on wall near alley/bank ATM, go in alley and look for hotel signs). The hotel had a very friendly staff, hot shower, etc. The bed comforter could use an upgrade but the bed was more comfortable than other places we stayed in Italy.

The location of the hotel is very good. Only about ten miutes ride by vaporetto from the Santa Lucia station, and a few minutes walk from the San Marco square. Follow the map provided in the internet on how to get to the hotel from the rialto bridge. It's very accurate. The room is very clean, and the bathroom is very nice, much more than expected for a hotel with this kind of rate.

I really enjoyed my stay...although when we arrived in Venice we had absolutely no idea how to get there and no address. Nobody knows that there is a hotel there because it is back in an alley, but if you find Plaza de San Bartolomeo then you´re homefree. I left a pair of sneakers on the window sill of my room so if you end up in the same room then you´re in luck...free tennis shoes! I think we were in room 214 or 216. anyway, we really enjoyed our stay although it could be because we had just stayed in the crappiest hotel ever in London. the blow dryer didn´t work. i think that´s everything.

We enjoyed Bartolomeo once we found it, but that was an endeavor! We asked for specific directions before we left, but what we were given was impossible to find. We ended up having to call from a pay phone (the second time we had to do that on this trip) and we turned out to be just around the corner, but there are no signs directing one to the hotel at all. It is literally hidden in an alley off a square by the Rialto bridge, so be sure you get really specific directions before you go. It is not fun to wander around Venice in the rain with your luggage. The room was quite large by Italian hotel standards, but very spartan in its furnishings. Almost like staying in someone's guest room. There was some noise from the Osteria below our window the first night, but the second night they were closed. The front desk staff was extremely helpful and we were able to leave our bags after we had checked out to pick up later. Breakfast was sparse, but typical. Great location for walking around Venice and you can't beat the price.

Our bedroom window opened to a smelly inner courtyard (it isn't easily avoided in Venice). The (general) location is absolutely perfect as you can easily walk to the main sites. The maps provided by Venere were very helpful in finding the hotel, so be sure to print those out. Not a fancy hotel, but thinking about the price and location, I would recommend this hotel (you won't be spending much time in your room anyway).

On the 30th of July 2005 we arrived for the second time in Hotel Bartholomeo. The first time in 2004 we were pleasant surprised about the price/quality of the accommodation and staff. There was not doubt that we visit the next time this hotel again. Before 2004 we were several times in Venice. At the moment of reservation we asked Venere.com with a special request if it was possible that we get the same room we had before: on the fourth floor (no elevator) with a view on the upper part of the San Marco-tower and the roofs of the houses of the inhabitants of Venice. We hoped that the front-desk made a reservation for the requested room. Two days before arriving we send hotel Bartholomeo an E–mail with the announcement of late arrival. They send us the same day a message: “We take care about this information, with kind regards” When a **star hotel gives you an answer on your E-mail request is that, in our opinion, a sign that they are interested in their guests. We were very surprised that by arriving of the hotel the staff, before we are introduced ourselves, us welcomed with the announcement “Welcome, the room with the view is waiting on you”. The staff of the front-desk takes the time to give the guests assistance by asking information for them by train and other transport officials about possibilities. Hotel Bartholomeo is located about 50 meters from the Rialto bridge and reaching (from the vaporetto) without passing bridges. For guests who want a window-view on a small Venetian canal or appreciate a maximum of privacy they have 5 new rooms in a separate house 30 meters from the hotel. Our rating of the **hotel is the same as we give already in 2004. The staff is friendly, correct, and helpful. The staff speaks their languages very well. Why booking a room in a hotel in for example Mestre (suburb 8 km) from Venice or Lido (di Venezia) if you can wake up in the heart of Venice! Gabriel and Ennio, thanks again a

We paid 125 euros for a small room in this two-star hotel. There is no elevator, but the desk clerk insisted on helping us get our luggage up to our third floor room. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. The mattresses definitely need replacing, but we did get a good nights' sleep. The hotel is down a dark twisiting little alley which made it a little difficult to find at first. It is about a five minute walk from the Rialto vaporetto stop and about 15 minutes from St. Mark's Square. Excellent location. Convenient and quiet. The street name was not included in the information on Venere--knowing that would've been helpful. We would stay here again if we were looking for budget accommodations---we realize that Venice is a lot more expensive than Rome, but the location in San Marco area compensated for the comparatively high price for a two-star hotel!

The hotel was in the perfect location. Just a few minutes from Rialto brigde and 5 min from San Marco Square. Totally worth the money, at least compared to other hotels that we show while we were there.. The room was very spacious and with a great bathroom!! We ended up staying one more night. The staff (mainly at the reception) were great! There was this guy that spoke excellent English and he gave us all kinds of useful information. Thanks to all!

I have just returned from a European vacation and stayed in this hotel for just 2 nights. The stay was excellent! The employees working at the front desk were extremely helpful and I cannot say enough good things about them. When we mentioned that we would like to go to Murano for a visit, the front desk employee arranged for someone to come to the hotel to pick us up directly and take us to a glass making plant on the island. The boat ride and everything was arranged for us. When we asked about recommendations for restaurants we were given excellent (but expensive) places to go. When we arrived at these restaurants we were given special treatment including a free appetizer and a special table. The room was facing a courtyard and was a little noisy in the mornings but overall the stay was excellent! Great location!!!! I highly recomment this hotel!

The hotel was hard to find, but after asking a couple of people we found our way. It is in a great central location to all the sites. The staff was freindly and helpful and the breakfast of coffee and pastries was good. The lack of an elevator was not a real problem for us. The only problem was that the AC is not turned on until early June so you have to open the windows to get airflow. This invites in the boat and business noise as early as 6am and mosquitos all night. Overall, a good experience and would stay again in cooler weather or when the air is turned on!

For Euro50 a night, they gave me the best room they have, which was on the 4th floor, with a view of the clock tower at San Marco. Room is newly renovated, quite and beautiful. Breakfast is good enough. Very close to Rialto Bridge, which means it's convenient to go most tourist spots in Venice and could find your way home. 15~20 mins walk to San Marco. Definitely stay here again if visiting Venice again, which I hope to do soon! Bring the money though...too many artwork to buy...

We walked around with our luggage a bit in order to find the place but that is part of the fun of being in Venice. Asking directions and getting to know the surrounding area and people is so much a part of the charm. Our room was clean, comfy and even though we were like on the 4th floor of an elevatorless hotel the cute little view and quietness made the climb easy to tolerate. Breakfast was standard bread, coffee and hot chocolate, But we were not there for the breakfast. We loved the location in Campo Bartolomeo that allowed us to hub out within walking distance to so many beautiful locations. We especialy enjoyed the pub near the entrance to the hotel. Cafes in the Campo opened early and closed late which accomodated our vacation lifestyle during our stay. THE BEST THING...out of all the little places we stayed in Italy the gentlemen at the front desk we the freindliest and most helpful, offering written directions and advice.THE WORST THING...that we couldn't stay longer.

Not the easiest to find when you arrive, but then few places in Venice are! Once there an excellent place to stay and we would not dream of staying anywhere else on future visits. Everywhere was spotless and the staff friendly and helpful. Rooms are small but I gather they all are in Venice but it had everything we needed and the ensuite looked brand new. I missed my full English breakfast but the continental breakfast was a pleasant start to the day and the Cappuchino was the best ever tasted. No lift and four floors is perhaps only for the reasonably fit, but then youre on holiday, how often do you need to go back to your room. With a location so close to the Rialto Bridge it is an ideal starting point for your dailiy excursions. Thank you Bartolomeo for our first visit to Venice, we will meet again. The first day we were there, there was a mix up on the room and they stuck us in an attic room that was very small, there was mold on the bathroom ceiling, noise came from the restaurant below until midnight and a tight shower. They did reduce the price to 90 euros. THe room the second night was much nicer and roomier. They were very apologetic about the mix up. My rating reflect the room from the second night

Bartolomeo is an excellent two ** hotel right next to Rialto. It is really in the thick of the action in Venice. All the shopping and restaurants were 1 to 2 minutes away. The room was spacious and excellently maintained. We are a couple from the US where we are used to stringent cleanliness requirements. This hotel matches up to them!! The manager speaks fluent British English although he is Italian. The maids and the breakfast lady were dressed neatly and in uniforms. We were given copious amounts of Cappuccino. Very very Italian and very very tasty. Mmmm.. The only problem was a small insect that we noticed in our breakfast basket underneath the croissant.

Hotel Bartolomea is a normal hotel which is easy to find in Venice. Within a few minutes you are at San Marco and it is 20 meters to the famous Rialto Bridge. The destination is perfect to see Venice. The rooms are small but clean and the employees are very helpful.
