We were disappointed with this hotel. The location is pretty good, so that is a plus. The breakfast consisted of horrible coffee/cappuccino served by a surly waitress and a few rolls, raw ham and juice. We paid about $600 per night for a room and slept on a sleeper sofa. Our daughters slept in the twin beds in the upstairs part of the room. In order to use the toilet, your feet were in the shower. The shower doors collapsed inward to allow this. There was no outlet in the bathroom, and no mirror near an outlet. The customer service was nonexistent, although one desk clerk (out of several) was pleasant. They charged us for internet, by the minute/hour! You had to sit in the breakfast room to use the wifi. Our daughter discovered this when the wifi did not work in our room. The room was tiny! No place to put empty suitcases, no drawers, no counter in the bathroom. It was air conditioned. Would not stay there again, although I would stay in the neighborhood again.

We took a superior room at the back of the hotel. The hotel decor is beautiful. Our room was spacious and beautifully decorated. It was worth the extra Euros for the superior room.

As two parents with a teenager this location suited us perfectly with easy access to Vaporetto's, the major attractions and also to the quieter parts of Venice the hotel was surprisingly quiet and spacious for Venice. Our room was clean and comfortable although we find the beds and pillows too hard in most Italian Hotels including this one. Breakfast was well catered and efficient.

Overall, a good hotel. However, all hotels in Venice are over-priced. Also, it is quite difficult to get to from the ferries or water taxis and will be a problem for older or less fit people when carrying their bags. This applies to lots of hotels in Venice though. I think Venice is a place to go ONCE..and if you returned, you would only be doing the same things and being charged far too much for restaurants and snack bars and museums!

We ordered a room with whirl pool and the picture on th ehomepage made us to decide to book this hotel. The whirl pool in the room was only a standard bath tub with whirl pool function. this was a bit disappointing as the expectation set was different.

I would happily recommend this hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the rooms are comfortable, spacious and spotlessly clean and the breakfast was most enjoyable. We found it be very good value for Venice where so many things are overpriced. The location is excellent - less than five minutes from the Rialto and within easy walking distance of many of the main sights.

Ideal location for visiting Venus. Wonderful large rooms. Breakfast good but could have more variety. Only big negative was that our room had a view of the center of the hotel which provided light but no 'Venus' views.

We were upgraded to a beautiful room with balcony overlooking the canal& 4-poster bed, at no extra charge. Our only criticism of the room was that the jacuzzi did not work although we hadn't expected one anyway. The hotel is just around the corner from the Rialto bridge and very convenient for walking around the city and river boats on the Grand canal. Staff were business-like and spoke good english.

This is a nice, modern hotel in a great location. The room is clean and comfortable. Breakfast is included each day. The only downside to this hotel is that they do not offer any additional services (i.e. room service, laundry, etc.) We asked for some hot tea in the evening (because I was sick) and we were told the water was shut off and it was not possible to get anything from the kitchen. Seemed strange for such a nice hotel. Overall, it is a great hotel and I would stay there again.

We quite enjoyed this hotel it was just as expected. The rooms were really clean and it was quite close to shops and rialto bridge. The only faults were a lumpy fold out couch and the coffee at breakfast was luke warm (as if out of a hot tap, not kettle). But that didn't take from our holiday.

We stayed at the Antico Doge for five nights. It was our fourth visit. It is well situated and meets most of our needs very well indeed. The Hotel is probably best suited to mature professional people without children who know what they want to do in Venice and don't want to be entertained within the hotel. The only downside is price, though Venice is expensive anyway.

This is a very good hotel for a visit to Venice. It is fairly easy to find and can be accessed on foot with wheeled luggage from the Rialto vaporetto stop (just make sure you are on the right side of the grand canal (the St Mark's side)) without mach bother. By foot around 5mins to Rialto, 15mins to S.Marco Reception staff very helpful with perfect english spoken. The decor is grand in keeping with the style of Venice and this adds to the atmosphere of the place. Very comfortable ,cool and quiet. We had quad room and were moved (due to planned maintenance) to the 'suite' with the balcony shown on photos This was very grand and exciting for the kids with always activity to watch on the canal it overlooks. Breakfast fine, breakfast room again grandly decorated. Adjacent small restaurant fine and reasonably priced though loads of places to eat on adjacent Strada Nova. Inevitably you don't spend long in a hotel on a city break however for us the Antico Doge was ideal and certainly a place to recommend/ use again.A trip to Venice is not cheap but this hotel is ,I think, relatively good value.

We stayed in a Junior Suite ovelooking the canal. it was clean and spacious, check in was efficient, the staff were friendly and spoke good english. Breakfast was included and was quite nice. The minibar was well stocked and not overpriced. The hotel is literally two minutes walk from the the Rialto Bridge. Once you cross the bridge (going left to right on the map), just bear left following everyone else, go over a couple of small bridges and the hotel is on your left by some designer clothes shops. The marked location on the map is quite accurate but don't expect to see Sotoportego Falier on the map. When you pass Sotoportego Dolphin you're on the right lines and the hotel is jsut around the corner. The entrance looks exactly like the photo on the website, so keep your eyes open and you'll find it without too much trouble.

Our room was wonderful. We requested and received a room with a balcony and view and it was beautiful and spacious. The service staff was very helpful, assisting with restaurant reservations and early morning water taxi arrangements to the airport. We especially appreciated the service employee who attended to breakfast and our rooms, she was very kind and did a lovely job. Hotel is not on the main canal, but still in a nice area, convenient to all tourist spots, shops and restaurants. A little hard to find at first, but found direction from the locals. We walked to Rialto and to St. Mark's square and cathedral and window shopped along the way, only about 15/20 minute stroll (follow the signs)...one could take a water taxi, but it is best to walk in Venice! Would recommend this hotel to others and would stay here again.

High quality hotel, gorgeous interior and rooms, service was excellent EXCEPT they failed to give us our wake up call, could have been disastrous on another day, and they did not take any responsibility for it, blaming it on "maybe" a phone off the hook - knock on our door if that was the case, geez! bitter ending to an otherwise very nice stay, just make sure you bring your mobile phone charger so that you can use it as an alarm clock =)

We were directed to the most private tours. We were shown to the best and most local - not touristy - restaurants. Any reservation we needed was made by staff. The rooms and amenities were wonderful - very comfortable. And, when I left my jacket at the hotel, staff went out of their way to have it sent to me in the U.S. For the price, this place is a steal. We definitely plan on returning.

We stayed in Venice for 4 days. The weather is good. Only that everything is Venice is so expensive and at a unresonable price. I am wondering how can the local people lived in Venice. Due to the high season, it is hard to look for a space in restaurants. Luckily we did make reservation before going.

The Antico Doge is a great place to stay away from the overly touristy area of San Marco but still fairly close to the Grand Canal and the major sights and even shopping if that's your thing. But a short walk East got us into neighborhoods where actual Venetians lived. Our junior suite was very nice with ornate Venetian style wall coverings and furniture which were well suited to Venice (although I wouldn't necessarily want this for an entire trip). The staff was friendly and helpful and breakfast was typical for the hotels we stayed at and served in a pleasant room. It was interesting in the morning to hear the sounds of people beginning their work day at 7AM in the square and canals below. We found two very nice restaurants nearby: Fischiaterria Toscana and Taverna San Lio.

This really was a lovely place to stay. We requested a room over looking the small canal and the room also over looked a lovely square and clock tower. Our water taxi was able to drop us just outside the hotel which made getting there very easy. It really was lovely to lean outside the window and watch the canal and the people in the square. Five minute walk to the Railto Bridge and a little supermarket a few minutes walk away.

This was our first visit to Venice and we knew prices of hotels were high in the city and i had previously read favourable reviews(through this site) about the Antico Doge so we decided to book this hotel. Our decision was made based on price, value for money and location. We opted to splash out that bit extra for a room with a courtyard view which was an extra eu45 (so total eu245 in high season)we were told this would give us more space which we thought might be a good idea as we were spending 4 days in Venice and had heard rooms were generally very small. As it was i don't think it was necessasry to spend the extra as it was really a square room with a corrider leading from it which gave you a desk and a chaise longue - with the window with courtyard view overlooking a very public square so curtains remained closed at all times. The breakfast room was pretty in yellow with huge Venetian paintings hung on all the walls. My only criticism would be that they could really improve on the breakfast to include a greater selection which is less processed ie. plastic cheese squares, miserable bread rolls and overly sweet croissants and pastries. Little formula butter and jam cartons and tinned fruit doesn't really set you up for the day. Apart from that i would have no hesitation in staying here again - the service provided by the staff at the desk was very helpful and courteous with extrememly prompt replies to all my e-mails and they even booked a restaurant on our behalf before we arrived in venice. Generally hotels are very expensive in Venice and i cannot say whether this represents value for money but overall it is a pretty hotel in a great location.

As it was the first time for my wife (but not for me)in Venice, I wanted something more than great but not too expensive. The Suite Fallier (Room 102) ist exactly what I was looking for. 18th Century Ambiance, with a fantastic balcon over a canal. But I am not so sure that standard rooms will offer the same. Fantastic week-end overall. March 2005

The suite we had (102) was great - and the only one with a balcony which was a bonus (especially if you smoke as the rooms are non smoking). The staff were all very friendly and were always happy to recommend restaurants and things to do. Really convenient location for seeing Rialto and the markets and a short walk to St Marks. Will definitely book again next time we visit Venice. Fantastic experience all round.

Very charming. Noisy due to location on bridge and canal, but with the use of ear plugs at night it was not a problem. My daughter and I both swear we had a ghostly presence in our room. I was awakened by something brushing the top of my head and then it felt like someone sat on my pillow. My daughter had her top sheet lifted by someone/thing twice in the night. We loved our stay here and would certainly recommend it to anyone. The staff was great about our every need.

We loved the Antico Doge! We stayed there The first week in November of 2003. The weather was perfect and the staff was wonderful..very helpful. Our stay included a trip to Murano. The hotel arranged a private water taxi to take us out there. We had our own private tour of the glass factory and of the show room. The location was perfect. Everything was in walking distance. The room was beautiful and it was very clean! We would stay there again if we return to Venice. It was perfect!

Initially given a loft room that was poorly suited to our needs (steep, rickety stairwell, extremely small downstairs room, bed too close to ceiling in loft. After several close calls on the stairwell, we were moved to a smallish but comfortable standard room. New, clean bathrooms. Other than the frazzled breakfast room attendant with attitude, staff was very friendly and most willing to accomodate. Great location in Canareggio, away from heavy tourist areas.

Hotel had reservation for 2 people, but we had made a reservation for 4. They were gracious about correcting the error, but the price changed. Also, we had booked a courtyard view, but got a side street view. It was fine, but not what we expected. Otherwise everything was fine.

Considering that this is Venice, the hotel was wonderful. The staff were extremely nice and gracious. We especially love the location! The hotel is only about 2 minutes from the Rialto Bridge and 10 minute walk to Piazza San Marco. My only complaint is the small bathroom. Luckily, my husband and I are not big people otherwise, the bathroom would have been a problem. Also, the picture of the room on the website was not at all the room we had. Our room was much smaller... but nicely decorated in the Venecian style and clean. We would recommend this hotel to friends and family for the location alone.

Wonderful hotel in the center of Venezia. 5 min from the Rialto & St. Marco. Very good employees always smiling and profesional. The interior of the hotel is magnificent. Beautiful furnitures in the pure venezian style. The only bad point was maybe the noise level in the room. Our junior suite had a courtyard view so there was absolutely no noise from the street, the walls seems to be quite thin so we were a little bit disturbed by the made by the other residents of the hotel. But our stay was nevertheless wonderful and i can only recomend the hotel Antico Doge.

Lovely hotel in good location for exploring the main sites. Expect a certain amount of street noise as hotel is situated on main thoroughfare to and from San Marco.
