Very good value realtive to other hotels, especially if you are more interested in seeing Venice. We never met the much lauded Fausto, his stand in was efficient and typically Italian. The rooms are spotless if not luxurious.

Excellent hotel with a reasonable price for Venise. Rooms are very nice, clean, quiet and employees are competent (10/10). The only problem is the quality of the breakfast which could be improved (5/10).

This is a really nice Hotel, which is located in a very nice, quiet neightboorhood of Venice! I truly recomment this Hotel to everybody... Even more if you´re a family with few kids because they can offer a big room with 4 beds. The bathroom was very clean. You will be hosted by a very simple, friendly old man called Giorgio, he serves you a good breakfast in the morning. The only thing I have to add is the location... but nothing impossible to find! It doesnt say here, but I will help you to find it: If you´re at the Central Station in Venice take the boat 42 until the Ospedale Civile (Civil Hospital), when you reach the stop, don´t enter the hospital (thats what I did accidentaly off course :P) turn left and walk until the end and turn right (Only possible way or you´re on the ocean), then you will see the european flag and thats the Hotel! Over all... Everything´s really good in this hotel.

We just returned from our two day stay in Venice and I can't say enough good things about the Alloggi Barbaria Hotel. I have high standards and staying here was a fantastic experience for our family. Fausto was so friendly and helpful, both during our stay and many times before we came (through all my emails to him). Not only was the hotel great but the location is great. It's very close to a water bus stop and close enough to St. Mark's Square to be convenient. The walk to St. Mark's is short but full of pretty streets, canals, and squares and this enhances your visit. We got a great restaurant recommendation which was one of the highlights of our visit. You will be very happy you choose Alloggi Barbaria and the price is right for Venice.

Please read my other review which rates this hotel as a 10 across the board. I am sending this 2nd review to address the two reviews I read from Oct. 2008 which were not as favorable. In short, the writers of those two reviews don't know what they are talking about. They are clearly the exception in all the reviews and they are just plain wrong. They are nitpicking and just off base. Don't let those two reviews discourage you from staying at this great place with great people that can make your visit a great one.

I found Georgio and Fausto extremely welcoming. Fausto's spoken English was of a very high standard. Both Georgio and Fausto were very helpful in suggesting where to eat and how to get around Venice. I stayed with my family for 3 nights (September 2008) and we had a lovely time in very clean and impeccably maintained premises. We felt very safe and relaxed. I hope to see Georgio and Fausto again someday. Thank you for your sincere hospitality. Maria-Luisa

For Venice this is a good hotel for the price when compared to others in this range. It is very clean & the rooms are very spacious for Europe. The staff Fasto & Georgio are friendly & helpful. We had 4 nights in the hotel whilst on holiday & enjoyed our stay. The only item I recommend that the hotel change is the breakfast. It was not good - just barely average. OK in quantity but not in quality. I would pay more money for a better breakfast. The photographs on the web site are a good representation of the hotel room. Some rooms do open directly into the breakfast room which is also the reception area but this is a small family run hotel so be prepared to be friendly. If you like your room away from the public areas you will have to pay more money. I suggest you just eat out for breakfast(however Venice is very expensive for everything)

The only negative comment I have on this property is the challenge getting to it from the stop which the boat transfer service from the airport uses. It doesn't look far on the maps, but it is a challenging hike with multiple suitcases along the waterfront cobble-stoned pathways and stairs to get over several bridges. However, the final destination was worth it and the front desk staff very friendly and informative.

I thought this was a good value. The staff was very friendly and the room was quite clean. Breakfast was a bit dull, and there was some noise from the street at night, but these were minor annoyances. The location is a little bit out of the way, but really not too far from some great sites, and it was a very easy walk from the vaporetto.

The directions were perfect we found it very easily. One of the hosts spoke English very well and was helpful with choices of restaurants etc. Best coffee that we had on our trip. There were a bunch of stairs to get up so be careful if you have heavy suitcases. We had some mosquitoes to deal with too but it was a nice place to stay

We were very pleased with the friendliness of the staff, particularly with our afternoon welcome upon our arrival. Directions and recommendations, etc. were provided and found to be very helpful. The room was basic but a nice size and did contain a small refrigerator with sodas, water, etc. we could purchase along with a safe. The location was out of the way, however, if you're good with maps it was only a 15 minute walk to San Marcos Square and an excellent location for going to the islands and the airport. Our only real complaint was the quality of the breakfast. You receive a packaged croissant and some hard rolls with coffee and juice. Of the 5 hotels we stayed in on our trip, it was the worst for breakfast. Some fresh fruit or yogart, or cereal would have been nice. Otherwise, we would recommend it to other travelers looking for moderately priced accommodations.

We spent two nights at this facility and found it to be a very adequate place with good location in a quiet, working-class neighborhood of Venice. It is close to the Ospedale stop on the vaporetto and walking distance to St. Mark's Square and other attractions. Giorgio and Fausto were very helpful and friendly. We found their breakfast to be minimally adequate, with coffee, juice, hard rolls and a croissant. The rooms were large but with only basic decor.

The hotel is located within two minutes of the near the osepdale exit of the vaporetta. It is on the second floor of teh building. It is spartan. It is not situated close by to St MArks or the Rialto bridge but is no longer than 15 minutes from each. Georgio will get you whatever you need when you need it and has excellent ideas for dinner. There is no elevator/lift so you have to carry your bags up

Alloggi Barbaria was above our expectations. The hotel is very well located in a quiet neighbourhood on a walk distance from a city center. Giorgio is a very friendly and helpful person. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The bathroom was very nice and clean, and we got clean towels every day. The breakfast was rather nice and a terrace quite charmy. My husband, our ten years old daughter and I spent five wonderful days in Venice, and a certain part of it is thanks to excellent accomodation in Alloggi Barbaria.

Very nice, quiet location. Staff was EXTREMELY friendly. Location is a short walk to any tourist sights, but this was as described. Close to water bus. Room is basically meant for two people, we were three which was accomplished by adding another twin sized cot to the room, making quarters a little close. However, we weren't expecting anything different so I was happy.

We stayed five nights and found the hotel very clean with comfortable beds and efficient heating. The staff were very helpful and friendly. This hotel is very well situated for sightseeing but is located in a quiet area. Room was good size but a bit odd in that it opens directly onto the reception area which doubles as a breakfast area...not good if you snore loudly! Breakfast was very basic and could do with improving, especially the coffee, which was barely drinkable. Have no complaints otherwise about the room or service. I would readily stay here again when visiting.

I like the fact that this hotel is very close to the water taxi stop (Ospendalle). The owner is also very welcoming. I stayed in a single room for a night and my room is soooooo big!! Unfortunately the breakfast was poor (little choice, cold coffee and tea, staff don't speak English) and I had a hard time finding channels in TV.

Amazing to be so entrenched in the centre of Venice for such a modest price. We went at an expensive time of year (the Carnival) and were origionally concerned by the prices. This hotel was rpicy but nothing like the others. The communal area was nothing to write home about and breakfast was pretty modest, but the rooms were very big with en suite facilities and the location was ideal. I would definitely go here again!!!!

Hotel is a little out of the way, but quiet as a result. Instructions from train station must be followed exactly or you will end upon LIDO isle, (the end of the line for the water buses). Not a terrible problem but certainly time consuming. All in all a nice place for the money. There is an excellent restaurant about 100 yards further from the water on the same street on the right hand side.

To get to Alloggi Barbraria from the airport is very easy by water, we got the airport vaparetto and for 6 euros we got off at Venice island and had a short walk to the hotel. Access to the hotel is deceptive as it is down what appears to be a narrow alley, but it is what counts as a main street for Venice. Once inside the hotel the welcome was friendly and our rooms were spacious and very clean. There was ample hot water, clean towels everyday and the room had most facilities you need for a short city break. The continental breakfast was basic but ample and Georgio was helpful to provide any requests. Georgio also provided a map on arrival and took time each day to suugest places to visit, how to get there and places to eat. The hotel is in a good location to get to restaurants and bars, and the key sights are about 10 - 15 minutes walk. We ate at an excellent local restaurant on our first night, probably our best meal of the holiday, which was only a 2 minutes walk away - sorry I do not know its name. It does not have to be an expensive holiday in Venice and we found prices very reasonable. All in all I think the hotel is excellent value for money in a central location and easy to find in a city where there are no taxis to drop you off at your hotel door.

Chosen at the last minute based on price, availability and the many positive reviews from previous visitors. It did not disappoint - friendly welcome, great facilities and very clean. Found the Hotel to be a lot cheaper than other hotels in venice and while the rooms and Breakfast were a touch basic it was clean, friendly and in a great location. The pizzeria around the corner (witha picture of a Witch as its logo) was the best meal we had on our stay and should definetly be checked out by other guests.

We stayed in a double room from July 31- Aug.2 2007. This was our first time in Venice. We had a great welcome from the host who spoke perfect English. He is a very nice man that had maps waiting for us and told how to get to wherever we needed. The room was very nice with ice cold AC, refrigerator with a cheap mini bar and was big enough, with a TV that had many channels, 2 of which were in English. The location is fantastic. It is down a tiny little street and a quick walk from the water bus stop. It is a little off the beaten path which we enjoyed. Nice and quiet, and a couple minute walk to a grocery store where the locals seem to shop and as such had very good prices. The man that worked at the hotel told us about this store. It was also not too far from all Venice has to offer. When we go back to Venice we will stay here again. We had a great time in Venice and much of it was because of this wonderful little hotel. The only minor complaint is that the breakfast is nothing great, pre packaged croisants and coffee that was not on par with other places in Italy. However, the outside balcony where breakfast was served was very nice. I highly recomend this hotel.

Alloggi Barbaria is in a quiet area of Venice very close to the "Hospital" vaporetto stop. Walking to San Marco is not easy if you're not used to Venice's small streets, especially at night. Once you get used to finding your way around, it's not a problem.

A little walk to the "main" attractions of Venice but situated in the heart of the real Venetians. They provide you with maps upon arrival...including detailed directions to San Marco Square (15 min walk...including the "getting lost" aspect and around the same to the Rialto area). Five minute from a vaporetto stop and there is a local grocery store around the corner. Very nice! Breakfast was just okay. Staff was very friendly and willing to help with anything..particularly reservations!

Stayed here two nights at the end of June and have no complaints. Property is very close to the Ospedale stop on the vaporetto, and is very easy to walk to once you disembark. Room was quiet and comfortable, and large, which was unusual for many European cities. Employees at the property were very friendly, and allowed us to keep our bags in the lobby after we officially checked out, which permitted us to do some extra sightseeing and shopping before taking the train to the next town. I recommend this hotel, and I would definitely stay here again. Breakfast is not much, but I don't judge hotels on this point---and of course since this is Venice, you are going to pay a little more for a room than you would in other cities. Venice is beautiful and worth the extra $$$ for a hotel. Enjoy!

This place is quiet (except for mosquitos in the room, and birds outside), and is kept clean. However I would not necessarily recommend it for a stay in Venice. You could be anywhere, there is nothing distinctive about it. I was disappointed and it didnot fulfil me dreams of a Venetian stay. Perhaps it would suit a large group of students who would have spacious rooms.

The room, which was a quadruple room - 1 double and 2 single beds, was clean and spacious, including a stocked fridge, TV and safe deposit box. The only thing missing was a kettle to make a hot drink, much to the disappointment of some of my party who would have like a hot cup of tea of an evening after a hard days sightseeing! The location was ideal for both Venice and the surrounding islands - Murano, Burano and St Michele. Don't be put off by the approach to the hotel entrance, it's a long dark narrow alley way but do watch out for the dog pooh! The breakfast was a typical continental breakfast of bread rolls, and coffee. The prepacked croissants and fizzy fanta orange juice served at breakfast perhaps weren't so typical and didn't go down so well with my party. However overall I thought the accommodation was good value for money.

This is a small hotel close to a vaporetto stop, so it is very easy to get to Alloggi Barbaria. Also, the Hotel is across from the islands of Murano, Burano, Torcello, and San Michel! The staff of three are approachable, helpful, and extremely friendly. Fausto, Giorgio, and Ivana were genuinely and sincerely warm people. Our room was cheerful and immaculate. Slightly off the beaten track so quiet but full of character and still only 15 mins walk to St Marks Square. Employees pleasant and solicitous - though have pretty limited English. The only less than excellent aspect is the breakfast which is lack-lustre: long-life croissant, fizzy (Fanta?)orange juice and instant coffee. A very clean spacious room. Breakfast was basic, but otherwise this hotel was friendly and excellent value for money.

The Alloggi Barbaria is a good little hotel. It is very clean and convenient, with all the amenities you'll need. It is by no means flashy, though - rooms look better on the website than they do in reality, but this is not a serious criticism. They're just spartan and not very imaginatively decorated. The hotel is conveniently situated but down a dark alley, with no views other than a few trees. Giorgio and his staff were very nice - and suggested an excellent local restaurant, Osteria Kalia, that we highly recommend. Breakfast at the hotel was basic - not their strong point at all. I would recommend the hotel for its convenience and general cleanliness.

The hotel is situated at a very remote area which the waterbus is very limited and the waiting time is very long. The hotel is besides the hospital and the whole pathway which it is located is surrounded by high walls and very narrow. Environment is poor. It scared us away and give up one night's deposit. The price is not competitive. I can book a hotel near Rialto Bridge at 90euros.

Venice is an expensive city, the services offered through Venere.com were as indicated, the rooms are spacious and has individual air conditioning, there is a super market at less than 100 meters and an internet shop at less than 50, Rialto bridge and St. Marcos square are about 15 minutes walking.

The hotel is easily to acces via boat from the airport and 15-20 minutes walk. External view of the hotel is very moderate but spacious rooms, equipment, air condition is perfect (we had 30 degree!). Friendliness of staff and service is outstanding, breakfast low Italian standard. Excellent place to learn Venice by walking and boat to the islands.

Hotel Alloggi Barbaria exceeded my expectations. We had no problems in finding our way due to the excellent instructions and map provided by the hotel.

Hotel is a good location for touring Venice and saving a little on the room. It is a 5 minute walk from water bus stop and 15-20 minute walk to St. Mark's Square. Good location for going to Murano to shop for glass. Room and bath (room 7) were very large and bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was the our worst in 3 weeks in Italy. Car park was 20 euro per day at the Autorimessa Comunale at Piazzale Roma. I would recommend advance reservations for car park as they were sold out when I arrived. Luckily I had. Would stay here again while in Venice.

There are only good things to say about this wonderful B&B in Castello, Venezia. Venice was our arrival in Italy from a long plane trip from Brazil. We were terribly tired but totally excited when we arrived at the airport. We followed the accurate directions given on the site and when we get off the Vaporetto we were a few steps from Aloggi Barbaria. This is a pleasant arrival when it comes to Venice, coz we saw tourists everywhere dragging their trolleys through bumpy, narrow strees to get to their accomodation. And if you want to get there quicker, you may take a water-taxi directly to the hotel. Then, after ringig the bell, we were received by this kind Italian man(sorry, I forgot your names)who showed us to our wide, super clean and refurbished room, with a garden view to boot! The bathroom was great, brand-new shower and we spent two silent nights there. Breakfast was nice too. On day 2 we had the chance to have breakfast at terrace, lovely. S. Marcos Square is really a 10-minute walk from the hotel. The ownwers of Aloggi Barbaria are so thoughtful that they give you a little map of the town showing the location of the B&B plus an itinerary to get to St. Mark´s Square, street by street, turn left on ... then straight on... Mama mia! It´s so easy to walk in circles, that this map with directions was such a nice treat. We'll never forget Venice and we would definitely stay at Alloggi Barbaria again. Thank you guys for your hospitality. Michele & Eduardo

Volvería a ir.

Small B&B in quiet part of Venice (rare find). We had room 7 which was very spacious with a large bathroom all newly renovated. Room faced courtyard as we specified to ensure quiet. 2 large windows which we opened to be woken up by birds singing in the morning. Wakling distance to all major atractions. Easy walking distance from water bus from airport or mainland. Breakfast was coffee or tea with breakfast buns, jam, cheese, honey and sweet roll. We liked it very much and met others that were returning for the second time to this hotel. Will use this hotel for next trip to Venice.

Breakfast wasn't great but the location is ideal for wandering around Venice and as it is a little further away from St Marks Square, the value for money is outstanding.

I probably would not have found this hotel had it not been for the very clear directions offered in another review - it is extremely well hidden in a quiet back alley (seemed very safe) - you won't see a 'sign' until you are right in front of the door. We were able to find it easily from the water taxi, but had we been coming from 'inland' I'm not sure we would have found it without a detailed map. Once we knew where it was, it was easy to find again. There is a flight of steps immediately inside the door, and no lift (not a problem for us). You have to ring a bell to get in the door. We loved the fact that it was in a quiet residential area and not in the heart of the tourist throngs. The owners and staff were extremely friendly and acommodating, the room was clean and though spare, it was obviously maintained with care. There was an air conditioner in the room, but it seemed to be disabled during the day, so the room would have been a bit warm for a midday nap. The breakfast was packaged pastry, so nothing to write home about, but I truly appreciated the large pot of coffee, for as much as I like espresso, I still really love my large cups of 'Americano' coffee in the morning. The tiny balcony patio was a lovely spot for breakfast, although there was a fair amount of nearby construction noise the days we were there. There is an internet shop right around the corner, though it didn't keep very late hours - the immediate neighborhood is pretty much completely deserted after dark. There were very few shops immediately nearby, but we gladly traded that for our quiet oasis away from the throngs. We had a very hard time finding a decent meal in Venice. Most places were horrible tourist traps with high prices and questionable food. The only good meal we had was at a restaurant recommended by the proprietors of this hotel. They spoke almost no English at the restaurant, and the dining area was packed exclusively with local tradesmen - we took th
