Staff were very friendly and helpful. The three different front desk staff we met all spoke excellent English and were very helpful with providing information on the city, public transports, nearby restaurants, etc. Overall, very helpful and friendly. Only downside was our room which was absolutely tiny!

Excellent location. Very congenial staff. Great breakfast. If you want a great inexpensive meal, stay right there in Canneragio. The further you go towards St. Mark's Square, the more expensive it will get.

Though there is indicated in the website: free internet access, there is no possibility. The beds (we had 2 rooms ) are catastrophically for older persons.because one is forced to lie in the middle of the bed (useful for young people in love).

Easily accessible from the train station with our luggage. Room was spacious and clean, new bathroom fixtures. Nice breakfast. We were able to drop off our luggage before the room was available. Flight of stairs to the reception and breakfast rooms. Would definitely stay here again in the future!

The hotel provided all our needs for our two nights in Venice. Staff could not have been more helpful. Our room was rather small, but you have to expect that in Venice. It seemed reasonably expensive, but we realise that for Venice, it was quite well priced. The hotel was very quiet, or at least our room at the back was, though from the breakfast room facing the street, it was also quiet.

The Hotel Alle Guglie was the perfect place for being in the middle of the hustle & bustle of Venice. Our room had a great view of the main street (but it was noisy early in the morning since the market was just outside our window). The room was charming and had the basic necessities for a place to sleep since you really spend your day out & about anyway. The only complaint we have is that when we wanted to shorten our stay (so that we could take an excursion to Rome - 5 days was too long for Venice), they would not allow us to check-out early without having to pay the full amount of our original stay. They kept saying we had to talk to venere.com and venere.com said the cancellation without financial penalty was at the hotel's discretion - so basically, no one would help us. So, we ended up going into Padova and exploring the local mainland cities instead. Bottom line: 3 days was enough for discovering Venice. Any longer and you'd get island fever...use the rest of your week to travel to other Italian cities. Also, free internet access is NOT included per the description on venere.com. The internet point is a shop down the street which charges you the usual for internet access.

We were very dissappointed in this hotel. Having stayed at hotels all through Europe, this was the most overpriced. The room had patchy repairs, no information about the hotel services or local area and a tiny dreary bathroom.

Many of the rooms were light and spacious, ours (number 28) was dark pokey and disappointing. Everything else about Alle Guglie was exactly what we needed. A lighter front room would have made our stay perfect. The ensuite was good and the location lively. Number of steps a slight problem but staff helped carry luggage.

The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. The location was very convenient and close to the St. Lucia train station, we were able to walk in about 5 min. The directions were very easy. There was good shopping and restaurants right outside, also a fresh fruit/vegetable market set up each morning just outside which was nice. We had a quiet room not facing the street. However, there was no elevator and we were on the fifth floor, but we were aware of it and it was not a big problem, would be worse for older people. The room was very clean and air conditioned. Although the shower was a bit tiny, it was clean. The daily breakfast was was good. We were only there for 2 nights and it was very enjoyable and we would definitely stay at the Alle Guglie again.

The hotel is situated 7-8 minutes walking from the Pza di Roma that is the arrival place of the bus from the airport or 4 minutes from the train station. The hotel staff were very nice and helped us very politeness. The room was very clean and comfortable, a little bit small but that's Venice. There is no buffet for the breakfast but you have enought things on your table and the capuccino served it's excellent. The waiter is also very nice and gentle. The situation is very good for making a walk to San Marcos by seeing all the city (40 min slow walking). There is also a close boat (vaporetto) stop next to the hotel. The price (90€ per night/two persons) was excellent regarding the quality. There are a lot of restaurants and bars around the hotel and just in front of the door there is daily a fruit & vegetables market opened until 20:00. The only complaint that I had was that the room was next to the breakfast kitchen so near 7:00 am they start to make noise with the preparations, but that's only a little detail. I really recommend that hotel for a visit to Venice.

I found that the staff was among the most friendly, helpful, and accommodating that I have encountered. The location of the hotel was just about perfect for us, close to the train station, to the Vaparetto, and to lots of good shopping. The hotel really suited our needs. We were on our honeymoon, but still trying to do it on a budget. Excellent hotel, close to the train station and easy to get to when carting your luggage along with you. The staff was super-friendly, and Chiara at the front desk might be the nicest Italian we met on this trip! Breakfast was excellent, and the hotel was only a short (picturesque!) walk to St. Mark's square. Also near a fruit market and supermarket for inexpensive snacks/meals.

We had a beautiful room where the windows opened up onto the street. The location is fantastic! Only a block and a half from the train station (easily walking distance; Right next door one will find a laundrymat and internet cafe. Lots of little restaurants extremely closeby, but even better, a fresh fruit and veggie market that sets up daily, right outside your door. Service was lovely UNTIL we checked out. They graciously allowed us to keep our luggage there until it was time to catch our train, but when we asked if we could use a washroom, we were simply told "I am sorry, no". Also, they carried our bags in for us (No Lift) when we arrived, but we were left to deal with them on our own on the way out. Despite this last dissapointing bit of service, I would go back there. The room, price and location makes it worhtwhile.

The location of the hotel is good and is on the same side as the train station, so we did not have to drag our suitcases over the main bridge, to the other side of the canal. The bedrooms were smallish, but comfortable. My room overlooked the market place with its colourful stalls. The staff was welcoming and very helpful. The only irritant was the waitress who served breakfast. She was very surly and highly irritable with everyone, as far as I could see. Its not a bad place, but a pleasant waitress would definitely be an asset.

Great location. easily accessible from santa lucia railway station through the guglie stop in vaperreto. also accessible from s.marcoulo stop. but be careful because some of the route 82 water buses from ferrovia don't stop in this stop. also, beware that there are no street numbers but just zone numbers. So you may be going in circles and still not find this hotel. Also, the steps to reach the reception is steep and there are no elevators. shower area is really small - same as everywhere else in italy. aircondition is not accessible, so you don't have the ability to change the temperature unless you are really tall. overall this is a pretty good place to stay. we will strongly recommend this hotel to anybody.

Terrific location and a clean, comfortable hotel. This is a great value. You walk out the door and you're right next to a laundromat and an internet cafe. There is a thriving street market right in the middle of the street and there are great cafe's within walking distance. It's also about a 7 minute walk to the main train station. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The only downside was the small size of the room-- the beds took up 90% of the floorspace. But overall, we loved Alle Guglie.

We would definitely stay in Alle Guglie again. The hotel has character (not your anonymous, huge, impersonal type)which was pleasantly enhanced by its location. The fruit market added local color to the vicinity. We were in a room on the first floor directly overlooking the market and I was quite worried that the noise level while the vendors set up the stands would disturb us, but was pleasantly surprised that we slept through it! Of course our windows were closed as we had to use the airconditioner. The location is excellent - walking distance from the train station and to all the sights. Be prepared to do a lot of walking if you want to discover spots which are not mentioned in your guidebooks. The room was very clean and the staff were very kind and accomodating with our queries/requests for information. (Only exception is the person in charge of breakfast - she could definitely be more friendly and welcoming!) Breakfast fare could be improved, but on the whole, we would recommend Alle Guglie.

the hotel is in a wonderful spot, no more than 15 minutes away from the main sights in Venice. After the stress of airports and all that, it's really refreshing to be greeted by such friendly staff. If there is one thing to mention, a fruit and vegetable market gets set up in front of the hotel every morning at about 7.30, and although it didn't really disturb our sleep, it might be worth asking for a room at the back of the hotel if you're a light sleeper. All in all this is a wonderful hotel and i can't recommend it enough.

Reception desk peolple friendly and warm and helpful, with excellent English speech. Rooms are quiet and clean. Maybe a little overpriced but not greatly. Breakfast was only so-so and the woman in charge of the breakfast room was the only exception to employee graciousness (she was abrupt and unfriendly). Convenient walk or vaporetto (boat)ride to all the "must sees"; the hotel street is very busy with pedestrians during the day but quiet in the evening. Several restaurants close by - some just o.k. and a couple fine ones. Fruit and produce market set-up just outside the front door during the day adds charm and, there's a laundromat just a few doors away. Loved walking the maze of streets at night, guessing where we might come out to someplace recognizable. Yes, we would consider staying again. The young man on the reception desk was kind enough to make coffee for us before we left early morning, and carried our bags down the stairs with a smile.

The rooms are small - there's only space for the bed and that's pretty much it. The bathroom is a bit small as well, but if you plan to spend most of your time exploring Venice and just need a place to sleep at night, then this is a good choice. It's located pretty near the main train station (Santa Lucia), just a 5 minute walk east (right across the bridge). The surrounding neighborhood is lively at night, there's a gelato place right downstairs, an internet point a few doors down (expensive - you can also place international calls for 40 cents a minute) and an open market during the day right outside the hotel. The closest water bus stop on the grand canal is San Marcuola.

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The room was very tiny (you could hardly get past the end of the bed), but it had a charming little balcony you could step out on and watch the action down on the street. Although being on the front of the hotel it was a bit noisy, and they begin setting up for the market at 5 am, but it was fun being right in the midst of the action. The location was great, as Cannaregio is a little off the beaten track, and there are many quiet and peaceful fondemente to explore in the area. The air conditioning did not seem to make much difference, it was warm and humid.

Having never stayed in what I call a 'tourist hotel' in Europe before, I wasn't sure what to exepct. My previous excursions to Europe have been business related with the commensurate hotel stays. Alle Guglie was excellently located within Venice. Everything was no more than 20-30 minutes of a walk away. Access to a Vaporetto was very easy and only one stop from Ferrova (the train station) where you could transfer to numerous other Vaporetto lines to get anywhere. The room itself was large enough and clean with a private bathroom. We were located in the rear of the hotel away from the street so it was fairly quiet, except for the ringing of the various bells all over the city, which of course is part of the charm of Venice. The room was maintained daily. The continental breakfast was nothing fancy but it was enough to get your day started and kept you going until lunch.

Good relationship between price/quality (for a place in the middle of Venice)and easy to find (on the main street at the left ot the railwaystation, only few minute walk). The cheapest single room with bathroom I've found during Cinema Exhibition period. Since a single room wasn't available, they gave my a double room at the same price. It was with view on the market but it wasn't noisy. It had a nice parquet and tapestry. Fist welcome from a quiet cat I met on the stairs.

Like all places in Venice, compared to other city stays, the hotel was more expensive than other hotels we stayed at in Italy. In general a nice hotel to stay in as it was clean and basic.

Compared to the rest of Italy, we found Venice expensive, with value for money being pretty average. The location of this hotel was good, especially if arriving or departing from the train station. In general, the hotel was fine. We werew asked to change rooms for the final night of our stay, although I never really understood the reason why. The room we moved into was much larger than the first one, so we would have liked to have been moved there earlier..... We were charged I made the reservation online, and my partner paid the bill when we left. We were quoted 250 euros for our 3 night stay via the website, then when we paid we were only charged 180 euros. However I was contacted via email and told that they had deducted the additional 70 euros from my credit card. Thought we had got lucky....

Having never visited Venice before, we did our homework in detail before deciding on hotel location, type, etc.. The reviews on the site were a godsend and helped enormously, even to the detail of which vaporette to use to get to the hotel (41 from the coach station). The hotel was ideally placed, close to a major canal (isn't everything?!) but in a quieter district. We walked for an hour on the first evening and couldn't believe how small Venice was. We were worried that a 2 day stay would restrict the number of sights we'd see, but we'd covered most by the end of the first day with ease. The staff at the hotel were English speaking and friendly. The room was larger than some of the British doubles I've had the dubious pleasure of staying in and was situated at the back of the hotel (as requested) so was totally quiet. The room was spotless and well equipped. Extra blankets and pillows, hangers, storage space and a permanently hot shower. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room was small but clean and comfortable with above standard bath and shower; staff were friendly, willing to go out of their way to accomodate their guests' desires, and more than welcoming. Location is in a more relaxed and quietor area of Venice, the Old Ghetto area of the Cannaregio, in the midst of a place where people actually live and work, not just tourists, but still with many tourist oriented businesses and moderately priced restaurants. Continental breakfast is unimaginitive and somewhat sparse in terms of variety but more than acceptable. Very conveniently located in relation to the Railroad Station (two short stops on the Vaporetto) and, to two diffents canal stopping points on the Vaporetto (ACTv). Not good for those who have difficulty climbing stairs and carrying luggage, but help from the staff for that purpose is available. Overall a good place to stay and worthy of a repeat stay.

This is a good hotel for at shorter stay in Venice. It is within walking distance from the train station. For being located so centrally, it is very cheap. The only negative part is that the street outside can be quite noisy.

Very good location. Very close to vaporetto stop at Guglie, and not much farther to Ferrovia or San Marcuolo. If you have lots of baggage, you can get a cart ("carrello") at Ferrovia, the train station, and wheel it to the hotel, as the Guglie Bridge has a ramp. Lots of local restaurants and bars nearby, some of which stay open late. There is a laundromat right next door, and internet access nearby. We (two women) were out at all hours and felt perfectly safe. The walk to the Rialto takes about 15 minutes through an interesting area of shops. We were sorry we spent so much time in other areas that we did not see all that was around the hotel, including a market on most days. We heard, though we did not get there, that there were good cheap restaurants on the canal at Via Misericordia, just north of the hotel. The hotel was very nice - we had a king-sized bed with a good mattress and good towels and linens, a safe-deposit box, small fridge, good tv, and a very large closet. The bathroom was clean, and had a tub and hand-held shower. There was a desk attended 24 hours, which gave wake-up calls and advice about the area. The desk personnel were courteous and helpful, and spoke English. They were very nice about letting us leave the luggage on our last day. Breakfast was offered from 8:00 am to 9:30 am in a lovely room, where servers brought good cappuccino, juice, toast, pastries, jam and butter. There are about 10 marble steps up from the street. We were given the quoted price with no argument. We would most certainly stay there again and recommend it to friends. The only problem we had is that the air-conditioning in our room was not cool enough, during an unexpected heat wave early in June. We spoke to some other guests however who said that their air-conditioning was fine, so the problem may have been only in our room.

Very nice hotel. They offered a free trip to Murano, including a free tour. Beware of the tour guide, as he works on commission in the gift shop. Most things that you see will be available elsewhere in Venice at a fraction of the cost. The hotel itself was lovely, the people were friendly and it was very clean.

We stayed in the cheapest room in the hotel and so we were not expecting too much. If anything the room/cleanliness/noise level exceeded our expectations. We were in a room at the rear of the hotel - which was fairly quiet - a (more expensive) room at the front of the hotel would have been roomier, etc., but noisier (fruit market immediately below). However excellent position for seeing sights - close to two vapporetti (sp?) stops - (if staying a week buy the weekly ticket - saves a fortune), train station and bus station. Plus close to Jewish quarter (best value bars and restaurants - i.e. cheap!!!). To summarise good value and position if on a tight budget.

Alle Guglie was easily-found and ideally-placed, being in a tourist-light, "real-people" part of the city, yet with ready access to the main tourist sights. Our rear room, with a roof view, restricted the outlook but was quieter than I ever expected, which was very welcome. Breakfast was simple, but with a tacit acceptance that guests could supplement the rolls and conserves provided with brought-in comestibles. The staff were not outwardly-effusive, but performed their tasks effectively and without fuss. We felt that it provided adequate value for money.

Overall, a very good hotel for the price. Although we had little interaction with the staff, when we did they were friendly and helpful. If we came back to Venice, we would definitely stay there again, and we will recommend this to others.

Being Venice at New Year it was over expensive for what it was. But Good Service was given, even if the facilities were a bit limited (eg. no kettel for tea!) and the rooms a bit small by modern standards. Although very well decorated and furnished, the photo didn't lie athough the rooms aren't very big which is an impression given in them. Oh - Don't go with the restaurant advice given as the one were told was a good local, served us Venician Spegetti, which looked like Jet Black Klingon Gloh'ck. Most restaurants nearby were really good otherwise. I would recommend the Hotel to anyone, but so long as they understand the Price is a bit high for modern city standards. But then it is Venice!

Very central yet amazingly quiet in the room. Warm and clean. Excellent value. I wish I could say the same about B+B in the UK. My Swedish partner who is very choosy was very impressed.

A good hotel located about midway between the station and the premier attractions. Close to vaporetti stops too. Early start for fruit stalls etc directly opposite hotel adds to the charm and atmosphere. I paid E120 (£80)a night for a double ensuite room with continental breakfast, and at this price for central Venice was impressed with the value for money. No good if you have mobility problems however.

We enjoyed very much our stay at Alle Guglie. The room was nice and the recption people friendly. However, don't expect them to speak french: you will have to know a minimum of english to be understood. There was just a little thing that decieved us: the breakfast is not "fameux" and not "copieux", especially the chocolate...
