What a wonderful find. The staff were helpful and friendly. We had a room with canal view, which was great. Only a few minutes from St Marks. Great for getting there on the water bus, the stop is only minutes away. Breakfast was better than many we've had in Venice, cooked meats, cheese, fruit, rolls, yogurts, fruit juice etc more than enough to set you up for the day. A great plus was we didn't have to hand our key in when we went out, so there was no waiting about to get it back. The room was bigger than many we've had, mini fridge was really useful. Cases are not left in a public area if you leave them after checking out, they are put away behind the desk. Would stay there again without doubt.

we were enjoying our 20th wedding anniversary. staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Maybe the breakfast buffet could have a few more items included as we found it very basic but otherwise we will recommend it highly

Excellent little hotel - fantastic location and a great price (considering this is Venice). Literally 3 minutes walking to San Marco - on it's own cute little square with nice restaurants nearby. So close to everything yet quiet and private. Would stay there again for sure.

A nice hotel, close to the main touristic attractions. The breakfast was varied, the employees only could take care of the flies that appeared because of the high temperature. We booked a room with view to a small canal, what was nice to see the gondolas. There was a funny shower in the room, with several water jets that made a kind of massage. I recommend the hotel, and for sure I´ll be back there if I return to Venice.

The staff was amazing friendly and helpfull, helped us in all ways, specially with our baby's needs, like where to get the food, heating the milk and the water for his food even during the night. We got some discount to eat in a nearby restaurant which is recommended by the Lonely planet guide. Location is just perfect just stones from St Marks Square. The room had a balcony to the canal and we could see how gondolas passing by. The only dissadvantage is that no lift is there but as it is Venice is not a child friendy place as none was babychairs for eating and obviously the bridges are tough to cross. I would recommend this hotel to anyone going to Venice.

Perfect location. Hotel room is spacious and very clean. I got a double room for single use on the first floor. The room is very quite and the decoration is attractive as well. Breakfast is good.

The rooms were even better than the photos; and my room was immaculately kept. The only caveat I have is to ask for very specific directions—It's not difficult to find if you have them, but if you only have the map they give you, it can be a challenge. The location is fabulous, too.

The staff at Al Tiepolo were really welcoming - especially as I didn't arrive until 11.30pm! The rooms were clean and bathrooms spotless with great showers. Breakfast was simple but the coffee was superb. It was nice and near to the main streets without being overly noisy but earlplugs were useful in the room nearest the square.

We stayed at this property for 3 days, as the second part of our honeymoon, after visiting Rome for 3 days. The comments on the internet about how hard it was to find the property were very helpful, we were prepared and found the property very easily. The hotel sent us an email with clear directions. Watch out for the handwritten sign on the wall in the mini square, when u walk from the San Zaccaria vaporetto stop. The location of the property is excellent; 3 mins to San Marco. The completely renovated property seamed like a great find in Venice and the room was actually spacious compared to usual European hotels and the city! The mini fridge in the room was great and the water was actually cheaper than what u would find in the street. Good breakfast. We loved it and would certainly return!

Very nice, stylish hotel. Pretty, stylish rooms: on the small side (no space for a closet, you need to hang your clothes or put them in a small chest of drawers), but in Venice, this is quite normal. Cute bathrooms. Great location: 5 min walk from Piazza S. Marco, but the area isn't totally overrun by tourists. Very friendly staff. The hotel is difficult to find, especially if you arrive at night. It is at the end of a cul-de-sac in a kind of niche, and late at night, when the light is switched off, it does not look like a hotel entrance at all.

I stayed there over the Easter. I had difficulty finding teh hotel as there were no proper signs. I was given room on the ground floor with only one small window near the ceiling, it smelled 'funny' and was close next to the breakfast 'hallway', so I was waken up by the hotel staff preparing the table early in the morning.I was allocated a triple instead of a single, that I booked, and it looked nothing like the pictures on the web-site. The hotel is central, but I would not stay there again, afraid I might get the same room again.

My wife and I, together with my mother, were following our son, who is a member of New College Choir, to Venice. Here they would be singing mass at St. Marks Basilica. The Al Tiepolo was really conveniently situated for all we needed. We caught the vaporetto from the train station to San Zaccaria and followed the instructions to the hotel. It was easy to do this even with wheeled suitcases. It was useful though to know that the hotel is down a very narrow alley off the piazzeta. I would say that a better, more permanent looking, sign down the alley would be worthwhile. From the hotel it is less than 5 minutes walk to the basilica and the square and the doge's palace, which was marvellous. Other than this we just walked around to some other more distant spots. My biggest gripe about the place was the price of water. We had bought quite a bit of pricey water, so were thankful to bump into a 'supermarket' where it was €0.49 for 1.5 litres! We actually walked past another 'supermarket' so they can be found with a bit of persistence. We really liked the hotel. It is quite small, I counted 11 rooms, but very tastefully converted out of what was probably quite run-down. The rooms were a fair size (we had a single and a double which both had an ensuite) and were perfectly adequate for our needs. Breakfast was adequate rather than generous, but no complaints. The public areas are small, and others have discussed the shared staffing situation. This did not cause us any difficulties, and they also allowed us to store our suitcases during the day (ready for a late flight). Catching a boat from San Zaccaria to the airport was 'really cool' as well, a good way to finish.

Al Tiepolo was a decent if not very characterful place to stay in Venice but with all the history at your fingertips it's probably good to have a simple place to go back to. The hotel is located VERY conveniently near the vaporetto stop which is very hand if you have luggage. I agree with others that it is a bit difficult to find at first as for venice first-timers such as myself it is hard to believe that the crack in the wall could possibly be a street ;-)) There is a small hand-written sign now. Enjoy, it's a great location, and a very good price-quality ratio for Venice.

The hotel it's placed in a perfect spot, a little square closer to Piazza San Marco. It's easy to find the square, following the web suggestions, but once there it's impossible to find the door of the hotel, because it's at the end of a narrow "street" with no exit. The rooms are very nice and quiet. Good rate.

The location was great, the only real downside was the noise and LED lights associated with room electricity/controls. They also gave a discount card to use at their restaurants which is a nice gesture but unfortunately use of the card causes adverse reaction from waiters ruining a delightful meal!

The hotel was a modern facility, newly renovated with an eye to younger tastes. The price was exceptionally good, especially given the location and our time of stay (weekend during Carnival). The only complaint I have is that the reception is frequently unattended because the hotel splits its staff with another hotel across the street. This meant that frequently, we found the hotel door locked and would have to chase down a staff member. Also, there is some noise between the rooms. If your neighbors are loud, then you can have a conversation with them. Aside from this, the experience was excellent and I would definitely stay there again!

A great little gem in the heart of venice. We got a good deal for a triple room. The staff were great, breakfast nice, room lovely and modern and great decore. The breakfast room overlooked the canal which was nice. Its a very small and very modern (interior) hotel. I would well recommend it. It's near st marks square and not too difficult to find - they sent a map in advance. Just don't put the price up or tell too many people!

The hotel was very obscure and hard to find... there is a very obscure cardboard sign pointing into an alley. We thought we were staying IN the hotel, but after a not-so-warm-welcome, we had to drag our bags two minutes away from the hotel to an apartment (probably recently acquired). After our initial frustration settled, we realized the apartment was spare in decoration, but spacious with a nice bathroom and kitchen and two bedrooms (two doubles and a twin... prefect for a family). Fortunately, the windows still overlooked a small canal. We kept our windows open, hence it was loud with passerbys, but that was just part of our experience. We had our own keys. We had to walk to the hotel each morning for breakfast as it was included. The staff spoke good english, but did not know alot of things, like the code to get on the internet. One staff member went above and beyond in helping us with departure plans, as our plane left @ 0600, so we had to be on a water "bus" at 0400 to mainland where we caught a bus. DO NOT get a water "taxi" as these are more appropriately Limos and cost 100 euros for a short ride. Get an ACTV card for 12 euros/24 hours/person for unlimited rides on water bus.

Staff was very helpful, courteous, and colorful. We had a very nice stay. Humorous to see that the front desk wore many "hats." Frustrating many times that the front desk was not a the desk a majority of the time. Later found out that this position was staffed part-time and the rest of the time, it shared an employee with the neighboring hotel. You'd have to go next door to get the front desk person. Also frustrating, they would lock the front door to the hotel and you'd have to go next door for them to open the hotel to let you in. Hard to find also. You had to walk down a 2' wide, dark, and smelly alley about 25' long, turn left, to get to the entrance.

The directions for this hotel need to be updated with which vapperato stop to get off and be more clear. We were lost for an hour, lugging our suitcases around Venice. Very frustrating, but when we did get there everything was great except when we came home at 2 am and the lobby was locked. We were able to go to the hotel next door and they lest us in, but why would the lobby ever be locked. We were on vacation and are going to stay out late!!

I stayed here 24 -27 December, and was very pleased with my accomodation. Pre-arrival I'd been sent an e-mail with a map, directions and water bus/taxi options, which was helpful as this was my first visit to Venice. Situated off Campo SS Filippo e Giacomo,I was within 2 minutes of St Marks Square. The reception staff were friendly and helpful, giving me advice about places to visit and things to do. There are 12 rooms, I was in 101 which as a double for single use was great (I'm used to being put in a tiny box room as a single traveller) Light and airy decoration - laminate wood floors, cream curtains and bedding (an antidote to the usual 'venetian decor') Modern bathroom fittings, with shower cubicle. (The towels are of the cotton sheet variety, so if you prefer fluffy towels, bring your own) Out of my window, I had a narrow view of the canal.I think some rooms face into the Campo, so not sure of how noisy these are. I think all of the bedrooms were up a flight of stairs, so might be difficult for anyone with mobility problems. The hotel website gives more info/pictures Breakfast (continental buffet - salami, cheeses, yogurt, fruit, cakes, bread rolls and jams etc. coffee/tea/hot chocolate) was eaten downstairs in the narrow breakfast area, or in your room. In the Campo is the Hotel Rio,and 2 restaurants Al'Aciugheta (The Anchovy) and Maison De Laurent, which are all under the same management as Al Tiepolo. I ate twice at 'The Anchovy'(Pizzas, fish, meat, pasta dishes) The Laurant was closed - more expensive, but appeared to have some imaganitive dishes on their menu (You are given a discount card at the hotel for 10% off food and drinks at these 2 restaurants). There are quite a variety of bars, restaurants, shops within a few steps of the hotel. As a solo female traveller, I found Al Tiepolo and its location to be very satisfactory.

We enjoyed our stay in Tiepolo and its location is certainly a plus (less than 5 minutes walk from San Marco). All the hotel was clean (rooms and public areas) and the equipment is very new. Perhaps the price is a bit high, especially for the spaciousness of the rooms and the small breakfast buffet. However, all in all, we would certainly return if we go back to Venice.

It was hard to find..in a backyard with pitchen`s shit all around. We found that disgusting. The aircondition was so noisy that we hardly could sleep. The room(102) also had a bad smell. first this hotel is not finished, second one the simple room is in ground floor, without window!! very noisy, with the preparation of the breakfast at 7 o'clock the morning right behind the door, the bed was broken, the remote control of television was broken, for a single room at 80 euros with so many nuisances...I am not satisfied

The triple room is actually more a double room with an extra bed. There is no real place for clothes to hang or to put somewhere in the room or in the bathroom. The Hotel is managed through another Hotel nearby. So sometimes one has to ask the other hotel to open the door to the Hotel. For the price we paid this is a little too much. The best advantage is that the Hotel is close to St. Markus square. Therefore good for a night but not longer.

Very good 2 night stay in a small but beautifully refurbished old building. The entrance is really difficult to find and you occasionally have to go accross the square to the sister hotel to get staff to let you in, but for a three star hotel the Tiepolo is really nicely done, with lots of marble, and real wood to accompany the old oak beams of the palazzo. Well situated in Castello, close but not too close to San Marco. Ideally quiet and relaxing.

If you decide to park on Tronchetto Island take waterbus line no.2 to San Zaccaria where you may have to cross over the bridge on your left, then turn into Calle delle Rasse and proceed as above.

From the Santa Lucia railway station, take waterbus line 1 or 51 to the San Zaccaria stop. From there, head straight to the end of Calle delle Rasse then turn left into Campo SS. Filippo e Giacomo where the property is located.
