In this splendid scenario, stands the property, a 15th century building that still belongs to the Marcello, famous aristocratic Venetian family. The hotel has maintained a unique atmosphere, remaining intact over the centuries in which tradition and modernity live perfectly side by side.

Hotel al Sole meet our expectations, except on the return when they assigned a very small room for the same price that we pay the first time. The second time we did not have coffemaker in the room and the frigobar was unserviceable.

Air conditioning in room was not adequate which was the only thing against this hotel. So I would hesitate to go back because of this - hence the NO in that question option. Our room had a canal view so we expected some outside noise as had to have windows open for heat.

Le petit déjeuner n'était pas bon! Pas de "vrai" café au pays du café!! Peu de choix. Jus d'orange en poudre! Dommage; sinon le reste était vraiment bien.

A lovely hotel in a quiet spot near to the station, but within easy reach of all tourist sites via the Grand Canal. To appreciate Venice, just walk!

Al Sole is very well located in a lovely old Palazzo, and the garden is fine, but not all as advertised. The room was tiny, which was expected, but very dark nd dingy, looking out against a wall two feet away -- no view, no light. Bathroom was modernized and very good however, and the breakfast buffet was very good. The wine bar in the hotel was never open, and the daytime concierge was not helpful or hospitable. Thankfully, one doesn't go to Venice for the hotels, and the weather was great during our stay so we didn't have to spend too much time in the Hotel itself.

No real bad surprises. Quiet area and safe at night. Several restaurants and tratorias available close by. Close enough from public transportation 5-10 minutes walk from piazza roma. The big issue why we will not go back is the tiny bathroom. Other than that it is an OK hotel.

A very enjoyable stay, but english breakfast was advertised and only a buffet was served on all days we were there, which, although it did not matter to us nevertheless deviated from the advert. After an initial problem with our room (very small & shower broken) we were moved with no fuss.

Planned a 30 year anniversary trip with my spouse and his brother and wife. Fell in love with Venice, but get off the beaten path and explore the real culture. Our rooms were fairly spacious for Europe and a moderately priced hotel. Bathrooms are small but that is to be expected. Staff was courteous and helpful. Hotel is 500 years old, but was clean and had nice character.

Nice old palace with canal und garden view rooms. Some rooms (cheapest) with view to the wall. Very nice breakfast terrace. Good breakfast variation. Prices very high but usual for Venice. Hotel is not far away from railway station und bus station. We liked it very much !!

Nice hotel, well situated, but our room was really very small. For us it wasn`t a problem, we didn`t spend much time at the hotel because we were busy sightseeing.

I stayed at the Hotel Alsole with my husband for Valentines. We really enjoyed our stay. The hotel was very clean and the staff were friendly and welcoming. The Venice carnival was on whilst there and we had a fabulous time wandering around and through the tiny streets. I would recommend this hotel, although the room was small, but you spend so little time in your room that it did not matter. The hotel itself is lovely with a welcoming reception and lovely breakfast area. Our room faced the canal - lovely view every morning. The staff were helpful with suggestions and the quickest way to get to the sites

Al Sole is a lovely hotel in a converted Palazzo. The location is perfect for those traveling by train as it is only a 10 min. walk from the train station. The concierge, Luca, is extremely helpful and common areas are lovely, including the breakfast garden. Al Sole is on a secondary canal in a beautiful location. The concierge recommended several good restaurants in the immediate area and gave us a map, circling areas of interest. The only negative is a bar next door and its extremely noisy patrons. We were there three nights and two of them were awakened by the noise of a large group drinking outside the bar, singing/yelling loudly and jumping into the canal. Fortunately, Sunday nights the bar is closed. Our room was on the front of the hotel with a great view of the canal. I would presume that those occupying the rooms in the back don't have the problem with the obnoxious bar patrons next door.

Totalmente recomendable. Repetiremos.

The Hotel was what i expected. There was a heavy smell of damp as you entered, not surprising fro Venice. The receptionist on departure was not the most polite to leaving guests who were quering the bills. Its position was very good however. The breakfast room was very dark and the selection was meager.

We had a wonderful 5 days in venice. The hotel was in a perfect location about five minutes from the bus terminus. The hotel did not serve meals other than breakfast which was lovely and in the garden area. There are lots of restaurants in the vicinity, the most special meal we had was a lunch on the canalside at Rialto bridge - expensive but worth every penny.

We had a "superior" room which was very clean and comfortable with a nice canal view. Space was limited but one expects that given the age and type of building. The location is quiet in the evenings but within easy reach of many great locations, particularly if you want to avoid the main tourist areas of San Marco and the Rialto Bridge. The hotel is located within an easy 5 min walk from Piazza Roma, which was great as we arrived at 9.45pm. Staff are friendly and helpful. The only downside is breakfast. The choice is limited and the quality not great but munching a croissant in the hotel garden watching the birds steal food from other tables is not a bad way to start the day.

Make sure you have a map to find not only this hotel, but every wonderful "nook and cranny" in this amazing city...we were very pleased with all aspects of our room...modern bathroom, very clean, great view of breakfast garden, excellent breakfast with thorough variety of proteins and carbs, including fresh fruit and yogurt...great advice on local restaurants, especially enjoyed going to Dona Honesta, everything cooked as you order it...no reheated fast food...Al Sole was a great choice for us, in comfortable walking distance to many sites, enjoyed backstreets and Grand Canal...always a pleasure to return to the comfort of our hotel, and the congeniality of the staff...enjoy!

Good location on a quiet and beautiful "canal", very close to train station, Piazzale Roma and vaporetto stops. Close to a good restaurant "Ae Cravate". Nice reception and superb terrace. Very helpful employees. Our room was small but clean. This was the only negative part.

Perfect location for early/late arrivals & departures - it isn't even as far from the bus ststion as it looks on the map! In a quiet area, but just a few minutes walk from a selection of bars and restaurants (whilst some were chut during our February stay, there was still a good variety to choose from). Room was small and bathroom very small, but both were clean and adequate for a city break. The mini bar was a nice touch (but take your own kettle if you want a hot drink in your room). Breakfast was buffet style, with something for everyone and a good way of filling up before heading off for the day.

Lovely old building being renovated. We were in newly refurbished rooms with adjustable heating which was a boon as the weather was very cold. We liked the fact that although modernised they had kept original features. Showers were snug, but that was OK. If you are very large it might be a problem. The hotel was in an ideal position - ie as previously mentioned - 5 mins from Piazzale Roma where transport from airport arrives, as well as central for all of Venice which is all easily walkable. Staff were very helpful & friendly.

Everything just perfect, especially the architecture of the building (an old convent): looking for a negative aspect, I can find only the coffee from the automatic machine. To be in Italy, to be in Venice and not having a high quality coffee is really disturbing.

We booked a Double Superior room (2 floor). The website described it as a room with garden view or cannal view...neitherone! Tiny window overlooking a wall 6 feet away. Room was very very, small, but bathroom was new. Nice breakfast area. The pub next door can be loud late at night, but in general is a quiet area of Venice...but far from the main attractions. One advantage is it's proximity to the bus station, specially if you are dragging your bags...it is just 5 minutes from the airport shuttle stop. Train station is 15 min away but must cross over Ponte Scalzi...hard to do with luggage!

A special occasion so we blew the budget on a Superior room and had a wonderful stay, with heartstopping outlook on three sides over canals (serenaded by a flotilla of gondoliers every evening) at the front, gardens at the back and a typical tall, narrow Ventian street at the side. It was noisy, with the street cafe at night and boats unloading in the morning but hey, they were boats not lorries!! Expensive, but anywhere in Venice is expensive. Getting there was easier than we had feared - airport bus to Piazzala Romana and just five minutes walk to the hotel. You do have to walk to get anywhere e.g. for restaurants, but the streets are wonderful and it's just 15 minutes to the Rialto or waterbuses to everywhere from the Piazzala Romana.

We chose this hotel because it was near the port. It was also very close to the Piazzale Roma where one could find taxis, buses and Vaporetos. The train station was also nearby to visit other towns. The room was a bit tight but clean and the bathroom was very clean. The public areas were nice...the garden was very pretty and the breakfast was very ample. It is in a quiet neighborhood with a few restaurants in the area. It was an enjoyable walk to St. Marks Square and the Realto bridge. I highly recommend this hotel for it's location and it's price.

We booked a four days stay in "al sole" and were not so pleased to get a room (nr.220)in the back of the hotel wich is not displayed on the website. The room was very quiet and the beds were very comfortable. Not very nice was that the corner behind the minibar must have been soaking wet during the winter so that the wallpaper was hanging down and some interesting muoldornaments decorated the wall. Except this the hotel is situated in a nice part of Venice from where you can easily reach reach all parts of the city. Service, breakfast were as you can expect for this category and the booking through Venere worked reliable. I would choose this hotel again but try to get another room

Loved your web site and the quality of the hotel was exactly as advertised. We had a room overlooking an inland canal, it was quiet and beautiful. Breakfast was in a terraced courtyard with lovely old vines growing over the walls. ALL staff were fluent in English, French and German (not Australian, obviously!!!) and they were extremely helpful. Breakfast was one of the best we had in Italy .. loved the hard boiled eggs! Recommend your site thoroughly...everything went as planned, prices exactly as quoted and no nasty surprises. Well done.

We stayed in July 2005. This hotel was gorgeous and in an excellent location. Staff were welcoming and helpful on arrival and we even got our bags carried to the room. We loved the oldy worldy decor and the room was very spacious (although we did have a double superior). Great breakfast in a lovely courtyard and the hotel is easy to find - very close to the train & bus stations and walking distance from all the sights and in our opinion - the nicer end of town. We couldn't have wished for a better hotel with excellent views over the canal and the courtyard - would definitely stay here again.

HIGHLY recommended! Great location in the back streets of old Venice - 2 min walk from bus station and 10-15 min walk from Rialto. My wife and I had a wonderful room (with great en-suite facilities) overlooking the canal, and whilst the noise outside at night from passers-by was quite spirited, this was not a problem once we'd worked out how to close the inner window and switch the air-con on. Really friendly and helpful staff, a basic but excellent choice of breakfast - cereals, croissants, rolls, ham, cheese, yoghurt, fruit juices etc. Great value for money!

My room wasn't as clean as I had hoped, and I thought for the price it should have been. I don't know if they haven't gotten to updating the single rooms or not, but I was dissapointed in my room. The staff was friendly & helpful though.

Great location vis-a-vis rail, bus and vaporetto connections. Exterior and common areas of hotel were attractive and clean. Nice interior courtyard. On the negative side however the rooms we saw were tired and seedy looking. If you are a shower person the set up is terrible. Water on the floor and very cramped. AC was, apart from the noise the unit made, non existant.

I paid $55E more than my daughter did at a different hotel. The location, size of room, size of bathroom were all better. Our room was like a closet. The bathroom floor was wet constantly, because there was no separation between the toilet and the shower. We had to rearrange the furniture to get 2 suitcases into the room. There was a nightclub on the street behind our room, so Saturday night was very noisey.

The hotel is located in a quiet part of Venice, close to the bus station (this is important, it is uncomfortable to walk around Venice and its bridges with your luggage), but not far away from the Gran Canale. It is very nice and comfortable. But, THERE IS NO INTERNET IN THE ROOMS! This is not true, I expected a broadband connection but they said I should use the normal phone connection, then they couldn't even give me a number to dial in Italy to connect my modem, I finally told me to go to an Internet Café. This was rather annoying since I use the Internet for my job. They said WI-FI is on the way, but in the meantime don't count on having Internet in your room or anywhere else in the hotel.

V pleased with the hotel. The rooms aren't big (the same is probably true of its competitors!) but adequate and very good value for money at 100 Euro/night. Reception staff were super helpful and its well located less than 10 mins from Piazzale Roma (direct bus to and from Marco Polo) in one direction and the San Toma water bus stop (on the Grand Canal) in the other.

The room I was in was tiny and rather shabby (although the bathroom was very clean). The noise was definitely a problem - I could hear my neighbors taking shower, etc. Apparently they have better rooms for twins and doubles, and the public area was lovely. The staff members were mostly very warm and welcoming. And the location - five minutes from the bus station - is very convenient. Not recommended if you are a single traveller, but might be worth checking out if you are travelling in couples or groups.
