We could not fault this hotel. We are a family of 5 with three teenage daughters, we had the quintuple room, which, despite low expectations, really was the advertised large attractive room with one double and three single beds and still space for us all to move around. It was on the first floor (2nd if you're American), so not hard to negotiate with cases. The view from the window was a classic Venetian scene of narrow canal with bridges, gondolas and echoing voices. With windows closed we heard nothing. You can take a gondola from the covered passage below, right outside the hotel (80 - 100 Euro per boat). The hotel offers a free water taxi to Murano and a brief tour of the glass factory, with no obligation to buy. You only pay for the water bus back to Venice (6.50 Euro each). The staff were all helpful, friendly and eager to make our 4 nights problem free, and they all spoke much better English than I did Italian. Breakfast was basic but typical for Europe, and the serving lady here was also attentive and lovely, so there was plenty of everything. Overall, I can think of nothing bad to say. Oh yes, the TV was small, and it was all in Italian. Seriously, the location, room and staff could not have been better, and we will definitely go back.

It's my second time in this hotel. The first time that I'd been here we took a room on the first floor. The hotel hasn't lift and now they put us on the fourth floor. We're four women middle age and we 've made the reservation since april. They don't show interest in change our room and the hotel wasn't full. The hotel needs improve the informations how to reach it.The food on the restaurant dissapointed us.The positive facts are the staff and the location. The recepcionist was simpathetic and helpful with our lugagge .The location is superb - a few minutes both St. Mark Square and Rialto Bridge.

Just about everything about this hotel was great - room was spacious and comfortable, great location in the heart of Venice and staff were very friendly, and very helpful. Only complaint was the bathroom and very dirty shower which was very mouldy.

The hotel was extremely well located. We worried about how we would get there with luggage. We took the Vaparetto to Rialto and did not have to go over any bridges with the luggage getting there. The clerk was very helpful. We had a quintuple room which was gorgeous and overlooked a canal. Breakfast was standard Italian.

Easy acces from the Rialto bridge. We rented a car and drove to Verona. I highly recommend this hotel. We had a quad room which was very ample, clean and quiet. Staff is always smiling and made us feel at home. I would definetly return. This boutique hotel is not exagerrated in its price.

This was my second stay at this property and I was pleased. It was in a great location not far from San Marco Square and Nicholas gave us some great suggestions for places to eat.

The room was clean and quiet but was on the fourth floor with no elevartor. Supersmall but cozy. I learned the difference between 100 Euro and 200 Euro for the future. The difference is the equivalent of student accomodations versus adult accomodations.

there was a mix up between this site and the hotel, our triple room after being booked was not available. this happened other places in europe without this site, but unlike the other hotels this hotel responded quickly to tell us and gave us an amazing two story penthouse apartment 1 minute away. I suggest folks ask about the apartment and see if they can afford it, it has a 350 sq ft terace in the sun most of the day. we spent the last night of our stay in the hotel, room was EXACTLY like the pictures. The staff was fantastic and Micheal was a complete hoot, making us laugh from the belly while giving us perfect information and assistance. he was one of our favorite people that we met on our trip, too bad he could not have just taken off and traveled with us. everyone was nice and the hotel is 1 door down a quiet street from the main pedestrian route connecting the Rialto to ST. Mark's square. eat at least one dinner at their restaurant, and buy nothing within a block of the Rialto or the St. mark's. we suggest going to the Peggy Guggenhiem museum. it has miro through kandinsky hanging on her private homes walls and a waterfront terrace on the grand canal. bring your own map, the ones privided do not have many "street" names and you will need them. bring a cheap compass and shorten the time you spend getting lost....you will get lost. Murano glass island tours are a bit of a scam, you get abandoned on the island of nothing but glass shops if you do not buy and the prices are the same or worse than in venice. the ride to Burano takes over 30 minutes and ask if lace is worth several hours of you stay in venice. at st. mark's they strickly enforce bag size limits and what you are wearing, to avoid the line, there is a sign showing where to officially check a large bag for free and then you get to go to the front of the line, just take your claim ticket and walk up to the doors and show them...in you go. each checked bag is good for 2-3 people to skip the l

Location was perfect for our stay in Venice. You could walk anywhere easily and I had three children (youngest 7). Stayed in room for 5 overlooking canal. We all loved the room. The hotel staff was wonderful. My husband became ill during our stay and the staff was so helpful from getting him a water ambulance to getting us directions anywhere we needed to go. Would definately recommend staying there. Great value and would stay there again if we return to Venice in the future. Can get gondola ride on canal outside the hotel.

The hotel is in a great location between the Rialto bridge and S. Mark's Square. There is some mild refacing of some buildings near it, but it was easy to find. Every morning there was a fabulous smell of fresh bread being baked, heaven. The only complaint was that the shower had quite a bit of mold and mildew, that was a turn off. The rest of the bathroom and the room itself was clean. The room was small, but I assume a lot of hotels here would be the same. For older couples, it may be a little difficult b/c there is no elevator. Since there were no elevators, suitcases were dragged down the stairs, which may wake you in the morning.

We still can not believe that we booked into such a fantastic hotel using the internet. The location is fantastic, close to all main attractions, and the service was outstanding. The restaurant was unbelieveable with good food and the co owner entertained us with good singing. We recommend this hotel.

We were given a room at the back of the hotel overlooking a narrow passageway. Dark and small. Good sized bathroom though but not well stocked. Only one member of staff spoke decent English. My Italian was given short shrift. Breakfast was awful. One sweet croissant, one cup of tea and one small glass of orange - thats it! Would not stay there again nor would I recommend it. However people who got the huge rooms (for the same price!) overlooking the canal would see it differently I'm sure.

Hotel is ideally situated 5 minutes from Rialto, and easy reach of Saint Marks Square. We had quadruple room beautifully decorated in Venetian style, and very spacious. Window opened out onto small canal and had gondolas passing..brilliant.Breakfast was basic, bread rolls, croissant, juice and coffee or tea, but adequate.Bathroom was a bit tired but clean (leave hot water on for 5 minutes to get hot!!)Our children are 15, and 12 and was plenty of room, we recommend this hotel and would return

Al Gazzettino turned out to be a great find. It's main attraction is the location, it could not be better located equally between the Rialto Bridge and St. Mark's Square. Its in the heart of the centre and our room looked down onto a canal. Compared to other hotels I priced in Venice I was worried that this would be a dive, but the staff we friendly and the room was very clean. Our family staying in a quaprule room, which consisted of a double bed, single bed and a fold out couch, and served its purpose as we were out sightseeing most of the time anyway. The downsides are that the hotel has no elevator, but we were on the first floor so that didn't prove too bad for us. Also the breakfast is not great. A croissant is layed out for you on a plate, and they offer you one glass of juice and a coffee. And we also had some trouble with the hot water, sometimes having to leave the shower running for up to 15 minutes before it was hot.

For a quoted 1 star hotel this is a very good one and well worth the price. For those who like more space in the bathroom though be careful. there's very little. We were two adults with a 10 year old - first time in Venice. This hotel is well placed for all the tourist stuff. Be prepared to be woken up by singing Gondoliers! :-) TIP: Hot water - let the water run for at least 5 minutes to get hot water. This might be common in Venice, I've no idea, but it caused us much frustration, until the guy at the desk told us what to do. Would have been nice to have a note in the bathroom to let people know.

We were a family of four and we chose this particular hotel because of the overall good rating from previous guests. It was perhaps particularly after having read the personal comments that I ended up chosing Al Gazzettino. The rooms were nice and clean, the hotel was easy to find and the location could hardly be better, half ways between the Rialto bridge and Piazza San Marco.

Spent 3 nights here, and it was the best hotel of our 4 week trip. Rooms were just like the pictures, and were very nice. The location was absolutely fantastic, the restaurant was very good quality, and the staff even sing as part of the service. All the staff were cool too, very accomodating. There wasn't a lift, but that didn't matter.

Location of hotel is excellent near to the Rialto and Pza San Marco. It is easier (and shorter) to found it from Rialto. We stayed one night in a quinttuple room. This room is suitable for staying for some nights, but not large enough to spend longer time in the hotel. Price is favourable in comparison with location and quality of hotel and with Venice prices. Suggestion to the staff:though we found the hotel relatively easily, it would be useful to put on a map on web page or send it to the guests marked the way from campo San Salvador. I really can recommend the hotel for seeing the sights of wonderful Venice.

We booked a quintuple room (for 5 people) for our weekend stay. The room turned out to be just an average sized room with a double bed, a single bed and 2 'put-u-up' temporary beds. These weren't really good enough for our big teenage lads. And with the extra beds in an average room, there was very little room for us to move around. Just as well we were out and about a lot! A simple shower and loo completed our accommodation. The breakfast was very basic. Juice or coffee, a croissant and a bread roll, all served at the table. No pigging out here! Hotel location was excellent, just a minute from the Rialto bridge & very central to access other places. Overall, although the hotel was nice, clean and basic, I cannot accept that our room was big enough to be described as a quintuple.

Al Gazzettino was a great hotel to stay at in Venice. We really liked the location (once we found it) which was pretty much centred between St Marc's and the Rialto Bridge. The room was a decent size, had a huge bathroom with 2 sinks, and had a little balcony overlooking a canal and a little bridge. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The only thing I would mention is to get proper directions as it was a little tricky to find.

We had a very good time. We were very impressed with the quality and service received. Especially with the Restaurant Gazettino that is located downstairs. The food is fantastic. This is the best hotel as compared to two other 2 stars hotels during this visit to Italy. This hotel should be at least 2 stars (now sure why it rated only 1 star). The hotel is in a good location. Near the water-bus and near gondola pick ups. My only suggestion is to ask exactly what stop to get off from and the direction you need to walk in to get to the hotel. My friend and I spent over an hour going in circles with luggage trying to find this place. Venice is small, but you can get lost easily. Once we found the hotel, our room was ready, we quickly changed and out we went to explore Venice. I would definetely stay at this hotel again.

Dorm room furnishing, but clean. Price seemed reasonable. Room overlooked canal which has pluses and minuses -- great view, but noisy in the morning. It is interesting to know how septic tanks are emptied in Venice! The whole area was central but not as crowded as other more touristy areas. The address refers to what roughly refers to a block. Find the 4900 block and circle -- the hotel is short distance down alley.

the hotel was great value for money, considering the location(mid way between rialto bridge and st marks sq)and the fact that venice is an expensive city. finding the hotel would have been difficult, but do what we did, sit down for a glass of wine in the vicinity and ask the waiter to mark it on your map, it doesnt matter who you ask for directions or locations all the locals are very knowledgeable. anyway back to the hotel, all staff very helpful, rooms basic but cleen and comfortable, would go back again, also this web site is fantastic and easy to use.

This hotel is in a great location very close to the Rialto bridge and a 10 minute walk to San Marco. Take the boat line either #1 or #82 to the Rialto bridge, walk directly toward the right, make your first left on Calle Larga Mazzini then walk straight on and you will pass through Sottoportego delle Acque. On the right will be a restaurant attached to the hotel with the same name. Then go around the building and the entrance to the hotel is right there. The restaurant is worth mentioning as the food was very good. The staff was friendly and helpful, the beds were comfortable and the hotel was quiet. We stayed for 2 nights in mid-April. The shower was uncomfortable because it was always either very hot or very cold. There are no lifts in Venice, so one must walk up a circular flights of stairs. Our first night we had arrived late and even though we confirmed the evening before, our room was given away and we were given 2 separate rooms on the very top floor. When we checked-in we were told that our room had a problem with the water but found out the next morning that people had stayed in it. The next night we moved to the one we had reserved, which was only a flight up from the ground floor and it had a view of a beautiful canal and the (very large for Italy) private bathroom was connected by a small hallway. This is a good hotel for the budget traveler who needs a clean and basic hotel close to the sights of San Marco.

Location wise, it's very convenient because of its central location and not far from the ferry dock. The room is spacious and clean, but the breakfast is standard. The hotel was clean, comfortable and very well located in central Venice. Address was confusing as Venice addresses go by a number and not a street name (If staff had pointed this out it would have saved a lot of confusion) - Although by Venice standards the hotel was well priced, it would have to be one of the most expensive in Europe in terms of costs for facilities provided.

Great location, 2 min each from St Marco or Rialto. Friendly atmosphere, competent employees. Clean. Breakfast is fine. Price OK according to Venice standarts and location. We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights with our 3 young children aged 12, 9 and 6. It was a bit hard to find once we got off the boat at the Rialto Bridge but I expect most places are difficult to find in the narrow alley ways of this beautiful city. We were all in one room with a private bathroom. The room was only one level above the canal and we all got much enjoyment from viewing the passing parade of gondolers and other boats from our windows. There was a bit of noise at night from singing gondoliers and tourists below, but that really added to our Venice experience rather than detracting from it.Being only one floor from reception some noise from people talking there could be heard by us later in the evening, but nothing to be unduly troubled by. Given the hotels proximity to the Rialto Bridge and San Marco Square , it was excellent value for money, with breakfast also provided in the room price. We would certainly stay in this hotel again and recommend it to others.Be sure to get a room over looking the canal if you can.
