Since this hotel doesn't have an elevator, not easy to carry luggage up 5 flights of stairs. No one is on staff at the front desk after 8 pm - would have preferred to have someone available. The location is very tucked away, however it is close to the Rialto Bridge and Piazza San Marco. Would probably not stay here again.

3 stars is too generous. The elevator isn't working and looks like it probably hasn't for a decade. The desk clerk could not leave his post to help take luggage up 3 flights - which was also his excuse when the air conditioning didn't work and when we had trouble with the key. Ours was billed as a "canal view" room, but you could only see the canal out of the chest high window if you were 7 feet tall. You could still fit in the shower if you were 7 feet tall, because the ceilings are high, but you can only be 1 foot wide. The room was clean but has poor quality linens and furnishings. The bed is only slighty softer than the floor and the pillows are an inch thick. As we checked out, the desk clerk asked if everything was to our liking, but his eyes glazed over instantly upon hearing my "well, actually...".

found the hotel very easily perfect location, had room with balcony which was very clean fresh towels daily. breakfast was adequate compared to other venetian breakfasts i have experienced. overall my experience of this hotel was very good i would not hesitate to stay there again my only comment would be the bathroom does need some t l c and the water needed to run for a long time before it become hot but it was very clean and after all you dont go to venice to spend all your time in a bathroom.

Only 3 minor criticisms of this hotel: 1. bathroom is very, very small. 2. AC was only marginal during the day, but adequate at night--but that's OK, we didn't spend much time in the room during the day. 3. No elevator would make it difficult to access upper floors. Our room was on floor 1 (second floor).

Reveiws on this place seemed ok 6 mths ago-maybe those people havent stayed anywhere better ?!! Too small.Way overpriced.Poor breakfast-longlife milk only.Shower less than one meter square.Bathroom smelled bad.No teafacilities, hairdryer or anything.Breakfast room depressing- full of hand drawings from kids or guests. Only bbcnews in english on tv.No proper a/c-very hot and dripping water through ceiling. Bed rock solid-bruised my hips-had to drag sofa mattress onto floor, which I dont pay $250 per night for as compared to this amazing Novotel in Vienna at $150 per night. Something MUST be done about Venice hotels, overcharging because they can and rudeness to tourists that and i can understand they appear to dislike immensly, but dont we pay their wages ??!!

Air conditioning was inadequate. At no time during our three day stay was the temperature in the room below 26.7 C (80 F). From the staffs point of view, the air conditioning was working just fine. Breakfasts were very good. No elevator: we had to haul our heavy luggage up three flights of 20 steps each, and there was another story above us.

The bedroom room was pleasantly spacious however the en suite was pityfully small - in fact if you are carrying a few extra pounds weight you would have trouble using this room! The shower was broken and had been for quite sometime judging by the amount of dirty stuck on the door wheels. The sink was broken, toilet dirty on arrival. We mentioned some of the points to the receptionist but nothing was corrected. We didn't go to Venice to watch TV and we couldn't have as the tv was set up high on a bracket with no remote. We were woken at 6.30am when the tv switched itself on and we had to fumble climbing on furniture to try and unplug it. We were given a remote control for if the same thing happened the following morning. Breakfast was pleasant. The main thing about this hotel is the location. It is fantastically placed for all the sights and once you get your bearings you realise just what a great location it is. It was very nice overlooking the tiny canal and watching the gondolas pass in the evening. We loved our stay in Venice and will visit again but probably not this hotel - sorry!

If one has any issues with climbing stairs this is a place to avoid. We were on the 4th floor and because there are no elavators, getting up the stairs especially with a heavy suitcase can be an problem. Hotel was half way between Realto and San Marco which is great but it was also very crowded in the area.

Room and bathroom were adequate. Very small tv not really practicable. No lift and no offer of help to carry luggage. All drainage from above bedrooms ran through bedroom - could tell what bathrooms above were being used for and for how long! On plus side, some staff were helpful and the location was perfect for exploring Venice and easy to find from Vapporetti station.

We stayed in a deluxe canal view room with a balcony overlooking the canal. The room was large, the bathroom very small. I think they remodeled our bathroom using a portion of it for storage. That was a mistake. Although we are used to small bathrooms in Europe a bit more room would have been nice. I would however stay here again and highly recommend this to friends. It is in the perfect location within blocks of both Rialto Bridge and San Marco square. The restaurant in the hotel was delicious. All of the hotel and restaurant employees were very friendly and helpful. It was a wonderful stay

Our quad was a lovely room, with two windows overlooking a canal and a small bridge. While it was a little confusing finding our way to the front door of the hotel, it was wonderful fun exploring the venetian byways and colorful shops near the Rialto bridge. I would love to come back and visit again in autumn, when tourist traffic has calmed down ~ I would stay at Al Gazzetino again.

This was our second trip to Venice. I loved the location of Al Gazzettino which is between St. Mark's Square and the Rialto Bridge. We stayed five days in a fabulous room: it had a narrow balcony overlooking the small canal that was adjacent to the hotel. I loved the sound of the city's bells and the action on the canal: boats delivering laundry, boats collecting empty bottles and garbage, boats delivering food and wines, taxi boats, construction boats with sand, even an ambulance boat one day. Two gondoliers had their gondolas within a few feet of the hotel entrance. A small bridge nearby had a steady stream of people passing all day. All of this activity was noisy, but I loved it. The good quality windows when closed let us sleep in quiet. The bathroom was small with a shower. A dripping tap was the only annoyance: hopefully it is repaired by now. Breakfast was in the adjoining Al Gazzettino restaurant and was very satisfactory. (Please note that there is no elevator.)

We could not fault this hotel. We are a family of 5 with three teenage daughters, we had the quintuple room, which, despite low expectations, really was the advertised large attractive room with one double and three single beds and still space for us all to move around. It was on the first floor (2nd if you're American), so not hard to negotiate with cases. The view from the window was a classic Venetian scene of narrow canal with bridges, gondolas and echoing voices. With windows closed we heard nothing. You can take a gondola from the covered passage below, right outside the hotel (80 - 100 Euro per boat). The hotel offers a free water taxi to Murano and a brief tour of the glass factory, with no obligation to buy. You only pay for the water bus back to Venice (6.50 Euro each). The staff were all helpful, friendly and eager to make our 4 nights problem free, and they all spoke much better English than I did Italian. Breakfast was basic but typical for Europe, and the serving lady here was also attentive and lovely, so there was plenty of everything. Overall, I can think of nothing bad to say. Oh yes, the TV was small, and it was all in Italian. Seriously, the location, room and staff could not have been better, and we will definitely go back.

there was a mix up between this site and the hotel, our triple room after being booked was not available. this happened other places in europe without this site, but unlike the other hotels this hotel responded quickly to tell us and gave us an amazing two story penthouse apartment 1 minute away. I suggest folks ask about the apartment and see if they can afford it, it has a 350 sq ft terace in the sun most of the day. we spent the last night of our stay in the hotel, room was EXACTLY like the pictures. The staff was fantastic and Micheal was a complete hoot, making us laugh from the belly while giving us perfect information and assistance. he was one of our favorite people that we met on our trip, too bad he could not have just taken off and traveled with us. everyone was nice and the hotel is 1 door down a quiet street from the main pedestrian route connecting the Rialto to ST. Mark's square. eat at least one dinner at their restaurant, and buy nothing within a block of the Rialto or the St. mark's. we suggest going to the Peggy Guggenhiem museum. it has miro through kandinsky hanging on her private homes walls and a waterfront terrace on the grand canal. bring your own map, the ones privided do not have many "street" names and you will need them. bring a cheap compass and shorten the time you spend getting lost....you will get lost. Murano glass island tours are a bit of a scam, you get abandoned on the island of nothing but glass shops if you do not buy and the prices are the same or worse than in venice. the ride to Burano takes over 30 minutes and ask if lace is worth several hours of you stay in venice. at st. mark's they strickly enforce bag size limits and what you are wearing, to avoid the line, there is a sign showing where to officially check a large bag for free and then you get to go to the front of the line, just take your claim ticket and walk up to the doors and show them...in you go. each checked bag is good for 2-3 people to skip the l

The hotel is in a great location between the Rialto bridge and S. Mark's Square. There is some mild refacing of some buildings near it, but it was easy to find. Every morning there was a fabulous smell of fresh bread being baked, heaven. The only complaint was that the shower had quite a bit of mold and mildew, that was a turn off. The rest of the bathroom and the room itself was clean. The room was small, but I assume a lot of hotels here would be the same. For older couples, it may be a little difficult b/c there is no elevator. Since there were no elevators, suitcases were dragged down the stairs, which may wake you in the morning.

My Italian was given short shrift. Breakfast was awful. One sweet croissant, one cup of tea and one small glass of orange - thats it! Would not stay there again nor would I recommend it. Al Gazzettino turned out to be a great find. It's main attraction is the location, it could not be better located equally between the Rialto Bridge and St. Mark's Square. Its in the heart of the centre and our room looked down onto a canal. Compared to other hotels I priced in Venice I was worried that this would be a dive, but the staff we friendly and the room was very clean. Our family staying in a quaprule room, which consisted of a double bed, single bed and a fold out couch, and served its purpose as we were out sightseeing most of the time anyway. The downsides are that the hotel has no elevator, but we were on the first floor so that didn't prove too bad for us. Also the breakfast is not great. A croissant is layed out for you on a plate, and they offer you one glass of juice and a coffee. And we also had some trouble with the hot water, sometimes having to leave the shower running for up to 15 minutes before it was hot.

For a quoted 1 star hotel this is a very good one and well worth the price. For those who like more space in the bathroom though be careful. there's very little. We were two adults with a 10 year old - first time in Venice. This hotel is well placed for all the tourist stuff. Be prepared to be woken up by singing Gondoliers! :-) TIP: Hot water - let the water run for at least 5 minutes to get hot water. This might be common in Venice, I've no idea, but it caused us much frustration, until the guy at the desk told us what to do. Would have been nice to have a note in the bathroom to let people know.

Location of hotel is excellent near to the Rialto and Pza San Marco. It is easier (and shorter) to found it from Rialto. We stayed one night in a quinttuple room. This room is suitable for staying for some nights, but not large enough to spend longer time in the hotel. Price is favourable in comparison with location and quality of hotel and with Venice prices. Suggestion to the staff:though we found the hotel relatively easily, it would be useful to put on a map on web page or send it to the guests marked the way from campo San Salvador. I really can recommend the hotel for seeing the sights of wonderful Venice.

We booked a quintuple room (for 5 people) for our weekend stay. The room turned out to be just an average sized room with a double bed, a single bed and 2 'put-u-up' temporary beds. These weren't really good enough for our big teenage lads. And with the extra beds in an average room, there was very little room for us to move around. Just as well we were out and about a lot! A simple shower and loo completed our accommodation. The breakfast was very basic. Juice or coffee, a croissant and a bread roll, all served at the table. No pigging out here! Hotel location was excellent, just a minute from the Rialto bridge & very central to access other places. Overall, although the hotel was nice, clean and basic, I cannot accept that our room was big enough to be described as a quintuple.

We had two parties checking in and only one had the balcony overlooking the canal (which was a disappointment as it wasn't my husband and I) but we had an amazing time anyway! You could not beat the location, especially for the price!

Struttura che rispetta e oltrepassa le aspettative. Ottimamente collocata, fra San Marco e il Rialto. E' il punto ideale di partenza per ogni escursione a Venezia. Fra i punti positivi: pulizia, arredi, servizi, colazione, disponibilità e gentilezza.

The map to get there is pretty hopeless. Venice is a difficult place to find anywhere due to strange numbering system. However, Hotel is recommended. Once found, very central I will never return to Venice with Ryanair though

We spent 5 pleasant nights in this hotel at the centre of Venice from 08.01. till 08.05.We could visit the museums, chuches and restaurants from early morning to late night. Everything was in our neighbourhood. The service was attentive and we are very satisfied with our holydays in Al Gasettino and in Venice.

Al Gazzettino was a great hotel to stay at in Venice. We really liked the location (once we found it) which was pretty much centred between St Marc's and the Rialto Bridge. The room was a decent size, had a huge bathroom with 2 sinks, and had a little balcony overlooking a canal and a little bridge. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The only thing I would mention is to get proper directions as it was a little tricky to find.

We had a very good time. We were very impressed with the quality and service received. Especially with the Restaurant Gazettino that is located downstairs. The food is fantastic. We have been to Venice before and this is the first time that we felt among 'the Venitians' . The price of the room was expensive but Venice is a very expensive city. I would really recommend this place to anyone.

This is the best hotel as compared to two other 2 stars hotels during this visit to Italy. This hotel should be at least 2 stars (now sure why it rated only 1 star). The location is great although a bit difficult to find at first. There is small canel at the back of the hotel which we can enjoy the scen from the hotel room. Quite, clean and really welcoming environment.

The hotel is in a good location. Near the water-bus and near gondola pick ups. My only suggestion is to ask exactly what stop to get off from and the direction you need to walk in to get to the hotel. My friend and I spent over an hour going in circles with luggage trying to find this place. Venice is small, but you can get lost easily. Once we found the hotel, our room was ready, we quickly changed and out we went to explore Venice. I would definetely stay at this hotel again.

Dorm room furnishing, but clean. Price seemed reasonable. Room overlooked canal which has pluses and minuses -- great view, but noisy in the morning. It is interesting to know how septic tanks are emptied in Venice! The whole area was central but not as crowded as other more touristy areas. The address refers to what roughly refers to a block. Find the 4900 block and circle -- the hotel is short distance down alley.

Excellent value considering a one star hotel at Venice prices. Location is really superb - mid way between Rialto and St. Marks. Contrary to what others said, we found the hotel very easy to find. Room was really large - even had separate him and hers wash hand basins. Breakfast was fairly basic, but plenty excellent eating establishments in the area.

This is a great hotel for "no frills" travellers. The rooms were clean, but showed some wear such as peeling wallpaper and in one room, exposed wiring. A bit noisy at times. Basic continental breakfast included. Staff was pleasant and helpful. Good location between Rialto Bridge and St Marks Square.

the hotel was great value for money, considering the location(mid way between rialto bridge and st marks sq)and the fact that venice is an expensive city. finding the hotel would have been difficult, but do what we did, sit down for a glass of wine in the vicinity and ask the waiter to mark it on your map, it doesnt matter who you ask for directions or locations all the locals are very knowledgeable. anyway back to the hotel, all staff very helpful, rooms basic but cleen and comfortable, would go back again, also this web site is fantastic and easy to use.

This hotel is in a great location very close to the Rialto bridge and a 10 minute walk to San Marco. Take the boat line either #1 or #82 to the Rialto bridge, walk directly toward the right, make your first left on Calle Larga Mazzini then walk straight on and you will pass through Sottoportego delle Acque. On the right will be a restaurant attached to the hotel with the same name. Then go around the building and the entrance to the hotel is right there. The restaurant is worth mentioning as the food was very good. The staff was friendly and helpful, the beds were comfortable and the hotel was quiet. We stayed for 2 nights in mid-April. The shower was uncomfortable because it was always either very hot or very cold. There are no lifts in Venice, so one must walk up a circular flights of stairs. Our first night we had arrived late and even though we confirmed the evening before, our room was given away and we were given 2 separate rooms on the very top floor. When we checked-in we were told that our room had a problem with the water but found out the next morning that people had stayed in it. The next night we moved to the one we had reserved, which was only a flight up from the ground floor and it had a view of a beautiful canal and the (very large for Italy) private bathroom was connected by a small hallway. This is a good hotel for the budget traveler who needs a clean and basic hotel close to the sights of San Marco.

We had an interesting stay at this hotel. Staff at the restaurant/hotel were funny and accommodating. Decent size rooms and a large bathroom. Excellent location but for a price - some noise, being close to the heart of the action in town! If this does not bother you and it's your first time in Venice, go for it!

Location wise, it's very convenient because of its central location and not far from the ferry dock. The room is spacious and clean, but the breakfast is standard. They offer 10% discount for dining in in its restaurant. Travel light is strongly recommended, otherwise, you have to drag your luggage upstairs. It's a bit pricey, compared to our accommodation in other cities, but Venice is an expensive city anyway.

The hotel was clean, comfortable and very well located in central Venice. Address was confusing as Venice addresses go by a number and not a street name (If staff had pointed this out it would have saved a lot of confusion) - Although by Venice standards the hotel was well priced, it would have to be one of the most expensive in Europe in terms of costs for facilities provided.

This hotel is simply romantic. We stayed in a room overlooking a canal with gondolas parked. The room and bathroom were both huge and staff could not have been more friendly. If you are elderly or have heavy bags, be warned... there is no lift. This hotel I will definately go back to, it is situated in one of the best areas and only 2 minutes walk to St Marks Cathedral.

Great location, 2 min each from St Marco or Rialto. Friendly atmosphere, competent employees. Clean. Breakfast is fine. Price OK according to Venice standarts and location. The location was excellent. The only thing that could have been better is if someone had showed us the air conditioner in our room. We sweltered until we asked for a fan. They then showed us how to use the box above the door. With air conditioning our last night was glorious. We had simply never seen an air conditioner that looked like that.

I was pleasantly surprised by how large the room and bathroom were, especially after some of the tiny places we had stayed in other parts of Europe. Our room had a double and 3 single beds and plenty of room for a family of 2 adults and 3 children aged 16, 14 and 10. The location of the hotel was fantastic and if I am ever lucky enough to stay in Venice again, I will definitely choose this hotel.

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights with our 3 young children aged 12, 9 and 6. It was a bit hard to find once we got off the boat at the Rialto Bridge but I expect most places are difficult to find in the narrow alley ways of this beautiful city. We were all in one room with a private bathroom. The room was only one level above the canal and we all got much enjoyment from viewing the passing parade of gondolers and other boats from our windows. There was a bit of noise at night from singing gondoliers and tourists below, but that really added to our Venice experience rather than detracting from it.Being only one floor from reception some noise from people talking there could be heard by us later in the evening, but nothing to be unduly troubled by. Given the hotels proximity to the Rialto Bridge and San Marco Square , it was excellent value for money, with breakfast also provided in the room price. We would certainly stay in this hotel again and recommend it to others.Be sure to get a room over looking the canal if you can.
