Venice is chock full of "intimate" read small hotel rooms. This former abby has rooms with reasonable space a good size bathroom and ample breakfast buffet. The location is a bit of a challenge to find, thank goodness for google maps but it is a great location if your next stop is the cruise port or the train station. Desk staff was very amiable and helpful. This would definitely be an option for my next short stay in Venice.

It was our first trip to Venice so we were worried about the hotel location. It turned out to be easy to find and was in a very favorable location. We were close to the Grand Canal and the bridge over it. We picked the hotel because we were leaving by Train to Florence and the hotel was perfectly suited to catching the train. The staff were friendly and competent and spoke good English. The rooms were clean and the breakfast in the morning was well staffed. I would highly recommend the Hotel Abazzia, particularly if you are using the train to arrive or depart.

The staff at Hotel Abbazia was very friendly and helpful. They treated as a special guests. The hotel is located on a small alley off of the Grande Canal. Perfect location. Just 30 feet from the restaurants, canal, shops, and beautiful cathedrals. The breakfast was delicious and generous. We truly enjoyed our stay and strongly recommend it to anyone staying in Venice.

My husband and I spent a wonderful off-season holiday in Venice. Hotel Abbazia was the perfect choice: beautiful room, great breakfast, excellent staff, perfectly located near train station, vaporetto and bridge across Grand Canal. And umbrellas courtesy of the hotel :-) ... We can definitely recommend Hotel Abbazio.

The hotel was very close to the railway station which as I arrived by sleeper train was high on my priorities so I could leave my luggage & start my holiday.Although this is a very busy area the hotel has inside rooms which meant there was no street noise & with an enclosed garden it was a tranquil oasis. The staff were excellent always friendly, courteous & discreet. When I return to Venice I will stay here again, hopefully in the near future!

We loved our stay at the Hotel Abbazia! Our room was comfortable, cool, and very clean. It was also quiet, facing the garden courtyard. The breakfast was excellent, and the location was convenient, near the train station. The staff was so friendly, and they offered us great suggestions and directions to restaurants.

The hotel's location couldn't have been more convenient to the train station and the front desk staff was very welcoming & helpful. We were allowed to leave our luggage after check-out & retrieve it in the late afternoon prior to boarding our train which was very nice. The weather was quite hot & humid in Venice during our stay. We expected our room to provide a respite from the heat with a bit of coolness provided by air conditioning. But when we checked in and after being in the room for an hour or so the thermostat registered 28 C & never budged below 27 C even at night. I inquired at the front desk about whether it was working correctly & was told "It's not intended to go to zero" but he did something in the computer to make the fan blow stronger. The temperature only dropped to 27 C as I already mentioned. That is not adequate for a place that advertises "air conditioning". Likewise the breakfast room was very warm & stuffy. I would not stay at this hotel again during hot weather!

The narrow walkway where the hotel is located was difficult to find the first time, but it is conveniently located near the main train station and vaparetto stops. They also took us to Murano Island to view a glass factory in operation, which was a great trip. Many other sights in Venice were an easy walk from the hotel. We had a little difficulty with the air-conditioning operation, but the staff took care of that. We especially enjoyed our conversations with and excellent recommendations from Matthias. Breakfast was also a treat each day. WI-FI worked best in the Abby room, a beautiful spot to relax.

Third time in Venice for holiday and it remains one of the world's most beautiful cities. Much has changed such as many many more tourists and much graffiti on buildings which I find a shame. Services are still excellent but many churches now disallow photographs inside and many more street vendors inhabit the tourist hot spots. Prices for food, drink etc are still much cheaper than north america and hotel prices are quite reasonable if you know where to look. Much is said of petty crime but I found no cause for undue worry if you remain smart about observing the people around you and your surroundings and you should be fine. Be courteous and try to speak a bit of the language with an italian pronunciation. Travel light and with 'class'. Find the non-touristy spots of the city. Rick Steves' books are excellent for the first time traveller to Europe but, for those who want even more info in european art and culture and interesting things to see, read other books too.

We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Abbazia. The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean, breakfast was wonderful, and the staff were extremely kind, helpful, and welcoming. We had a "deluxe" double room which was small but not claustrophobic - probably on the larger side by Venice standards (which isn't saying much, of course). The hotel is perfectly located if you're arriving via train or bus...just a three-minute walk from the train station - and no bridges to climb with your luggage! It's in a very touristy, busy area, but on a quiet side street. If you're planning to do more walking than vaporetto-riding, it's not ideally located, as it isn't centrally positioned. However, the vaporetto is right there, so if you plan to get around that way, it's very convenient. I just found it a little inconvenient for us, as we generally walked everywhere. My only complaints - and these are minor - about the hotel would be that we had only a bathtub and no shower in the bathroom, which wasn't ideal. Also, as many others have mentioned, don't underestimate the sound of those nearby church bells...we used earplugs, but they still woke us up every morning at 7:15-ish; they ring again an hour later. Overall though, we were very, very pleased with our stay, and would definitely consider staying here again and recommend it to others.

I was very happy with our recent stay at Hotel Abbazia. The staff was friendly, welcoming and helpful. Our room was immaculately clean and comfortable. I liked that the hotel is conveniently located near the train station, so we didn't have to worry about dragging our luggage around looking for our hotel or having to arrange for other transportation there. It is down a quiet small street and once there, you are away from noise and tourists. I appreciated the hotel offering two computers for guests' use, and the breakfast was delicious and attentively stocked. Overall, it was an enjoyable place to stay in Venice.

I chose this hotel because we (I and my adult daughter) wanted a location for a convenient in and out because as we were using Venezia as a way-station to skiing, price, and the previous comments on Trip Advisor. It is an interesting mid-sized hotel in an alley very close to the railway station, about a 10 minute walk (with suitcases) from the bus station in Piazzale Roma, and just a minute from the main vaporetto stop so is very convenient. As a previous reviewer commented, there is no noise detectable from the station because a large church blocks any sound from the station (though watch out for the 7am church bells!). The hotel was previously an abbey and the large lounge (with a small bar) was clearly the monks’ dining room complete with an elevated pulpit for readings during meal times. The smallish room was clean and overlooked a nice garden courtyard equipped with seats under an awning for summer use. The brown bedroom furniture looked a little tired, but for us this was of no concern. The bathroom was fine but non-notable. The TV received BBC and CNN. The staff, who spoke excellent English, were friendly and helpful. A sumptuous continental breakfast was served in a mid-sized dining room. An excellent value. Thoroughly recommended.

Everyone that has commented previously is quite correct it is a lovely hotel, great staff and at Xmas the decorations were beautiful, We like the area handy for transport and the Northern Canneregio area has some great places to eat and drink, it is also handy for crossing over to San Croce. Friendly and helpful reception staff- wellington boots were kindly provided for the aqua alta! Room was small, but adequate. The hotel is not in the prettiest part of Venice, but certainly a very convenient location for bus and train transfers and vaporetto. The monastery bells were quite something for a light sleeper- at 7 am and again at 8 am. You won't need an alarm clock! Breakfast was good-generous selection, but freshly made coffee would be better than from a machine. All in all the price is a fair reflection of the facilities, in what is a very expensive city. This was my third trip to Venice, and the first time in winter. The cold and damp was quite an endurance test when walking around, but one big advantage was no queues for the main attractions. A very different atmosphere from the summer, with more residents than tourists. I'd recommend the cioccolata calda!

It was an excellent stay at venice, and the hotel is very beautiful and in a perfect location. Staff was very kind at all times. The only thing I didn't like at all was a kind of air condition or something similar above us, as we stayed on the last floor, and it was really noisy and could not be put of. We could only sleep with ear-taps. :-(

Overall the hotel was excellent and the staff friendly. My only negative feedback would be about the size of the room, which wasn't much larger than the double bed it contained, although the bathroom was huge by comparison.

We were surprised the difference of the impression between the outside and inside of this hotel. Such the thing was the first experience for us. When we asked three bottle of hot water to take meal in the room, the hotel stuff was kind for us.

I booked this hotel for its location, price and ratings, for myself and 9 friends to celebrate my 50th Birthday in January. I was in Venice at Christmas, so got the chance to check the hotel out. Straight away, I knew I had found the perfect place for our trip.Raffaelle was very helpful. From the moment we arrived, we were treated to a very special weekend. Matteo was the star of our stay- Very professional, and with a wicked sense of humour. Our rooms were all very comfortable. The breakfast was the best I've ever had in Venice. I'd arranged a couple of bottles of Prosecco for my friends to enjoy on our first night-I was surprised to find that Matteo/the hotel had footed the bill for this! The following night, my friends had arranged a celebration for me, which the hotel staff helped with. A lovely hotel-full of character, with modern comforts. A few metres from the Grand Canal and Water bus stations. Would recommend this hotel to anyone. I hope that I get the chance to stay here again soon! For some people the sound of church bells ringing early in the morning (07.15) might be a problem -bring ear plugs if you might be bothered-personally, I liked this alarm call! Again, for some the rooms might be small if you're not used to staying in Venice-where smaller rooms are the norm- But ask yourself-How much time do you spend in your room compared to the time that you are out and about exploring this lovely city???? The hotel also has a pleasant garden with seating to relax in.

A charming hotel in a very convenient location next to the train station. However, the chiming bells at 7am will not please everyone.

Excellent value for money for a Venice hotel. Another advantage is that it is very close to both the train and bus stops and you dont have to use the expensive water taxis to reach the hotel.

We enjoyed a very pleasant stay at the Hotel Abbazia. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the staff was professional and friendly. The only negative was an unpleasant odor in the lounge/bar area. We highly recommend the Abbazia and hopefully we will be able to return in the future.

We could not fault this hotel. Should we go back to Venice, we certainly would go back there. The breakfast provided was varied and good. The other plus is that we could breakfast till 11 am. Employees were very friendly. Very close to the station and vaporetto. Absolutely recommended.

The standard rooms were relatively small in comparison to the spacious and modern bathrooms. The front office team proved very competent. We liked our pleasurable stay except for the sound of the church bells in the morning, but felt the hotel to be overpriced - but that's Venice!

The third or fourth time we have been able to get an opening and always an excellent experience. Terrific buffet breakfasts. Handy to train station so that we do not have to worry about hauling suitcases on to a vaporetta for further hotels.

There is no question that the gentlemen that staff the reception area are the most welcoming, well-humored and patient hotel employees we encountered during our month in Italy. We thoroughly enjoyed the public areas and the breakfast was well above the average. My only complaint, if any could be lodged, was that the hotel rooms need some attention. The bathroom was wonderful, but the room itself is worn and tired. Also, the air conditioning needs to be more efficient. We felt we were staying in a room that was a "work in progress". I also want to say that the location of the hotel was outstanding, no need to pull your luggage through the streets of Venice, it was close to the train station but I never had the sense that we were near the station. The garden was extremely pleasant and overall our stay was very nice.

A well-maintained and operated property, conveniently located just a few minutes walk from the railway station. The rooms are comfortable and clean, staff are friendly and helpful, and the only surprises are on the positive side. This hotel is very good value for money, and we would highly recommend it.
