We were three generations visiting Venice for our autumn holidays; being 84 yrs, 48 yrs and 14 yrs old. We got a room for three with a good size, clean and facing the beautiful quiet garden (so it was quiet and nice). The room had simple and oldfashioned furnitures / and beds were OK > we slept well . The roofgarden/terrace was really good - and the magnificent view from here was worth the extra money we payed to stay in this hotel, and that this was close to San Marco (only 5 bridges to walk). We enjoyed the breakfast very much, all though we missed brown bread. The welcoming was OK, professionally done all though a bit distante/cool in their approach to us as customers. Could be that the hotel need a full renovation, but we enjoyed being surronded by this oldfashioned style. We recommend this hotel .

Just excellent with a pretty lagoon-view balcony. I asked an aged professional porter for ice and a bucket to ice a spumante that I bought in Florence, and his job was quick and satisfying. A little bit far from Canal Grande, but this hotel is nice enough to make your stay in Venice unforgettable.

After reading many hotel reviews, our understanding was that in Venice not all the rooms in a hotel give the same level of satisfaction and decided to go for better rooms of any hotel. We stayed at a double room with a view at Hotel Gabrielli, and enjoyed every moment of our stay. The room had one moderate sized window and the view from the window was great. We picked this hotel because of its easy access to the airport connection (Arsenale, Blue line)and because it was facing the lagoon rather than the canal. The furnishings look like they date back to the late 1950's. Nevertheless, the room was spotlessly clean i.e, no dust inside the drawers or cabinets, perfectly clean floor, sheets, towels, and bathroom. The room also had a small compartment of a room with a sink facility across from the main bathroom, which made life easier. The breakfast was good. The reception was helpful and professional. We got a decent (not luxurious by any standard) room with a view. The price, we think, is normal in Venetian standards but above many other European cities.

Nice view of the lagoon, but the noise in the early morning coming from the Vaporetto stop made sleeping difficult. The current condition of the hotel and the level of service do not justify the price.

We stayed at the Gabrielli in July which we really enjoyed Our bedroom over looked the Grand Canal which was great. The hotel was lovely with a hint of old opulent Venice about it, less than 5 mins walk from St. Marks Square but away from the crowds and a water bus stop almost outside. We had evening meal at the hotel which was good with friendly staff and a seat overlooking the canal. Breakfast is buffet stlye with a good selection of food which we ate in the courtyard with birds flying round looking for crumbs from the tables. We really enjoyed our stay at the Gabrielli and would certainly go back there when next in Venice We recommend this hotel

Excellent location, just in front of a boat lines boarding moor and close to San Marco Square, and with an astonishing view from the windows. As typical in Venice, during the day you hear the noise of the boats sailing the channel from the room. Good breakfast buffet.

I wanted to stay in Venice for 1 night only and due to some mobility problems wanted somewhere near to St Mark's Square. The location was excellent and the view from my room on the first floor couldn't have been better as it looked out directly onto the lagoon. The room was a good size considering I was on my own and the bed seemed huge. There was limited furniture in the room and a bed side table would have helped but it was adequate for my use. The ceilings were very high and this made the room seem even bigger. The room did seem quite warm. There was a waterbus stop only a short distance from the hotel which also helped at times though there was some night time noise from the boats nearby banging against their moorings but after a very tiring day this did not affect sleep for long. The staff were efficient and helped when needed and I was shown to my room by a porter even though staying for 1 night I did not really have any luggage. I did feel a little strange being on my own and did not make much use of the public spaces apart from at breakfast time which I ate in the inner courtyard/garden area that was an unusual pleasant surprise in the middle of Venice.(I forgot that there was a rooftop terrace and would have liked tohave seen it though having a front room I suppose it was not really necessary) The food was good and there was a good range though I was left to my own devices working out what there was and what I needed to do. For the price I paid I was very pleased with the hotel and would recommend it to others.

The location and reception areas are wonderful. The upstairs corridors & rooms are narrow, dank & dated at best. The bathroom (delux lagoon view room) might well have been installed during the Inquisition and intended as a form of torture or punishment. The rooms are probably fine for touring undergraduates, but are spartan at best. The location and views can't be beat, but for the fact that the windows are not double-glazed & many boatloads of noisy day-trippers disembark right outside the hotel starting at 7am. Don't plan on sleeping in. The staff helped us a lot and kindly put up with my bad Italian.

this was the 3rd stay at Gabrielli's becausen I love the romantic rooms upstairs, the quiet surrounding, the easy ways to the center and to the boat stations.Besides, the atmosphere at the hotel is very familiar, not poshy. BUT:the rooms need new painting.

this hotel was just lovely, & at a good rate. it was an ideal location--right on the canal where one can easily access everything, including san marco sq., yet a little bit away from the busiest spot on the canal. the cold breakfast offers everything possible in an elegant way. the gardens & other public spaces are so pretty. though the room was a bit small, the bathroom was large with a good bath/shower, bidet, & towel warmer. my husband & i really enjoyed our stay here & would definitely recommend it to others.

Two star room with four star price. The location of the hotel is fine but the room was at the back, extemely small with minimal facilities, and with no view or other redeeeming features. This was my worst value for money in a hotel in 50 years! I thought there had been a misunderstanding and the room I had been assigned was a cheaper price - but no! Absolutely scandalous!

The room was clean, fresh, warm and cozy. The hot bath after a chilly boat taxi ride over was wonderful! The staff was efficient, friendly, and provided excellent service. Perfect location, only walking distance to St. Mark's Square, and beautiful view from our balcony.

The location is excellent. The hotel is just five minutes walk from St. Marks Square, and is surrounded by some excellent restaurants. It is located on the seafront with one of the waterbus stops practically at the front door. We found the hotel expensive but very good. The breakfasts were good, the staff were friendly and helpful, and overall we would probably stay here again.

My favourite Venice hotel for several years now, especially as a regular Biennale visitor. Proximity just can't be beat. I like a lagoon view, but it's somewhat noisy with the vaporetti banging against each other all night (no problem for the other, cheaper rooms). But the staff embody everything that's good about 'old Europe'.

Excellent public facilities. Bedroom rather old-fashioned but adequate. Breakfasts need more variation from day to day. Location excellent and convenient for major tourist sites. Overall the expression 'faded grandeur' comes to mind.

When I pulled up to the dock and saw that our hotel was right in front of me I thought this wasn't going to be a good experience. Boy was I wrong. This hotel is very elegant and worth every penny. The staff was friendly and helpful for dinner reservations as well as places to visit. I am going back! Loved it, Oh and the roof top view is splendid!

Well when we got there we were welcomed and although our booking was wrong we could've been given better rooms because the rooms we were given were TINY for 2 people. Ironically, on our same floor, we passed a room while the door was open and it was quite spacious. Anyway we cut our trip short and when we wanted to leave (after having paid for the one night because we had booked two nights) the receptionists would not allow is. In the end they did. The next day when we were checking out, the same man that had checked us in so warmly and welcoming did not even look up to say goodbye. He was quite rude and curt, and we did not appreciate that. All of a sudden we're not their guests so they decide to be rude. Basically we did not enjoy our stay at Gabrielli Sandwirth, besides the beautiful lobby there's not much to it. Unless of course you decide to be completely overpriced for the suite facing the water, then I think that the receptionist will treat you quite well.

For our first and very short time in Venice, the Gabrielli Sandwirth was a good place to stay. Very accessible by water buses and taxis and the wide open view of the Grand Canal was great. The triple room was very spacious, but since we faced the Canal, it was not very quiet. Unfortunately, you could hear engine rumblings during the late hours of the evening. We were so tired from our excursion that the uncomfortable pillows and beds did not make too much of a difference. The staff were most helpful. They arranged for our trip via water taxi to Murano and also held our luggage until we were ready to depart later in the day.

This hotel is a lovely place to stay. It is on the lagoon, oozes charm and is a short stroll from St. Mark's square. A little pricey but so is everything in Venice and it is as romantic as it gets.

Excellent typical venetian hotel on Riva degli Schiavoni. Impeccable service. I had a single room, which I would not recommend. The room was extremely small, although clean and well kept. An odd thing was that both TV and mini-bar were absent from the room.

Hotel is in great position to walk either laong front or through alleys to all the sites and literally 2 mins from the waterbus. It isn't clear on the map just how near it is to the bus but reallyideal, saw loads people struggling through with cases and we had none of it! Fancy a quiet moment and it's near the park at Gardineiri passed Arsenale. Venice was just magnificent if pricey, but worth it!

Great location if you are lugging suitcases along with you. The water taxi stop is right in front of the hotel and San Marco Piazzo is a short walk along the water. The only negative is the size of the room for the price you pay but this is the case any where you stay in Venice. We would stay their again because of the convience and how easy it is to find. We arrived by train and took the water taxi straight to the hotel and we left by water taxi and went straight to the airport.

I was very impressed by this hotel. My room, although small, exuded old world charm. My room was on the top floor in one of the dormers. It overlooked the roof garden and had a charming bathroom done in pink marble. Because of the location on the top floor, the ceiling in the bathroom was sloped, which might be a problem for a tall person. The staff was friendly and very competent. The hotel was easy to find and relatively close to San Marco Square. Compared to other hotels in Venice, I believe this hotel was an excellent value for the price paid.

The first room we were given was no larger than a closet and the door to the bathroom had literally rotted away. The reception desk person was not helpful, although the following day we were given a better, larger room. The hotel is shabby though genteel. The main glass door was covered with smudges (other reception rooms were clean). Bedsheets were darned and repaired. The coffee at breakfast was invariably cold (as was the service). The hotel did reduce the price of the first room based on our complaints. One should be able to get a better hotel, even in Venice.

This hotel was at least as good as I expected, especially being Venice, where it goes without saying the prices are unreal for the American dollar. Our room was very quiet, overlooking the garden so no view of the water, and commodious. The restaurant was attractive and very good, the beds were comfortable, the bathroom fine.
