Palace Grand Hotel Varese - Varese

A 5 star experience for a 3 star price (off season).

Great hotel with good service and good breakfast. However, the hotel is a bit far from the centre, although you can borrow bikes from the hotel. Otherwise, you would need a car to get here. Since it's not near the centre, you also have to drive/bike to find a good restaurant. However, for the price offered, the size of the rooms and the friendliness of the staff, I definitely recommend this hotel.

We stayed six nights at the hotel. The staff was kind,they advised us and gave up many tips,especially Alessandra. The rooms were clean, and had beautifull view.

The hotel was fantastic and very pleasant. we were very happy to be there. incredible surroundings.

The rooms are clean, quiet, nicely furnished, spacious, the employees are competent and very kind, the breakfast is great...What else ? If you don't mind paying for an Internet connection (it's proposed at a hefty 17 euros per day), then this hotel is perfect.

Internet costs, not published on website, but discovered on arrival, were preposterous at €10 per session or €17 per day, did adversely impact on our appreciation of the hotel, and to extent that we did not dine in hotel. Additionally, Internet supplied by Swisscom, and when 1 day was purchased, it did not work in the evening. Efforts by the hotel to contact Swisscom Customer Service went unanswered. Eventually, Swisscom have agreed a full refund, not yet received. Also, Aircon equipment on flat roof outside window was excessivly loud at night. Main stairway carpet needs a little attention & driveway to hotel quite potholed. Staff were excellent, breakfast was good, rooms were very clean, location beautiful, interior generally very good, breakfast room has lovely views over Lago di Varese. Location was excellent for touring Lago di Maggiore & Lago di Como as it was only 20/25 km from each and also from Milano. Grounds lovely, well kept but pool a little small.

Excellent hôtel, de très bon standing. Dommage que la TV n'ait pas beaucoup de chaines gratuites et que l'internet soit payant.

This is a beautiful hotel! We had seven in our party and we stayed in two triples and a single. The triples were huge with bathrooms that were hands-down "best in show" of all the seven hotels in which we stayed during our trip to Italy. The single was small, almost cramped, but that we expected that. The breakfast was bountiful and tasty! The breakfast room witself was very elegant, and and view to Lake Varese was a special surprise. The staff was very efficient and professional, although they were a bit "stuffy" for our taste. It was very quiet, except or the sound of the airconditioner, that bothered us a little bit during the night. All in all, we had a positive experience.

We stayed 6 nights with another family - 4 rooms in total. The hotel is beautifully situated with fabulous views. There were a few hiccups with the pool and bicycles when we arrived but these were promptly fixed. The hotel has spacious grounds and the photos do not do it justice. Although Varese has litle to offer (we came to watch the rowing), it is a good centre for touring and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this lovely hotel.

I think 4 stars are to much. It was a nice hotel - but old - you could really see it was old. The swimmingpool was very small - not as big as the photoes say. But it was okay to stay there for a night or two. The price was okay, but the food and beverage was expensive and the choice of food was very poor. It was not a family hotel but for people who need to relaxe and have some tranquilety.

Fabulous Facility. Unfortunately we only had one night to stay there. It was not easy to get to from the Milan Centrale Train Station with a lot of luggage. Perhaps better directions from other parts of Italy would have been more helpful.

Our initial contact with the desk staff was less than wonderful. The rest of the staff was fine, but after driving all day we felt less than welcome upon our arrival.

An old and classic hotel, 100 years old. Not in the best shape possible, starting to look a bit shabby at the edges but still offering something different for the money (our deal was 100 Euro a night). Location with great view - but must use taxi to town as on top of hill. Overall good service. Would not recommend as a layover before flight from Milano as not close enough, but otherwise a nice alternative to a standard hotel.

Can´t say so much more, because we arrived late in the evening and left early in the morning - but that what we saw had a high standard - so we come back sometime! The surroundings - I can´t say anything about it because I didn´t see it - it was dark all the time !

I think it is enough to say that I'll go back at Palace Grand Hotel Varese anytime.

This is a grand old hotel not far from the centre of town, but not walkable to the centre. We paid 110 euros for this fine four star hotel in August, which I suspect is around half of the regular rate for that time of year. Unfortunately, we hit a cold and wet patch and did not get to enjoy the pool, or the wonderful grounds, but we did take in the marvellous view of the Alps and the lake from our room. This is a great hotel to base yourself from to tour the lakes, and to head into Switzerland, given that the quality of the accomodations relative to the price is a fraction of what you will spend in Como or Bellagio, and yet Como is only 9 km away. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a hotel in this general vicinity if you can achieve the same price point we did.

Good situation in a great park. Out of the centre. quiet with a beautiful vieuw of the lake. Nice service. 6/10 for Quietness of rooms beacause we were an 1 floor and we had the air conditionned under the window.(close it was perfect)

Hotel is very picturesque on its hilltop setting surrounded by well-managed grounds. Hotel location seemed adequate for getting to downtown Varese but it is not near the train station nor public transportation. One must have a private car or taxi to access the hotel as it sits atop a hill with long, winding access road. Transport to Malpensa airport by taxi is expensive (60-90 euros). Room was nicely decorated and provided adquate space to move around (triple); however, 3rd bed was narrower than the standard beds in the room. Luggage stands would have been nice, particularly since 3 people in room. Bathroom was appropriate for handicapped, wheelchair bound guest. However, it was awkward to shower with only folding partitions to contain the water. During and after the shower, one walked in much water spreading across the entire floor. There was not tub. Staff were very accomodating when we arrived late and let us eat dinner after dining room was "closed."
