This is a typical family run hotel which suited our requirements for the one night that we stayed there. The evening dinner was good and the breakfast choice was also very good.

We had never been to Italy before and just stayed over night in Varese on our way way to Toscany. Albergo Amici was an old charming hotel, the staff very helpful and welcoming.

Service for hotel and restaurant was traditional-wonderful. Dining room was beautiful. The food was interesting (tipico) and away from the norm. We will return.

The food at dinner was excellent; fresh, delicious and mouthwatering. The breakfast was not as expected, only packed rolls and jam, not a large variety (compared to Parma and Bologna where we stayed before and after our stay at Albergo Amici). The biggest problem was that the people in Albergo Amici spoke hardly any English and it seemed as if they felt uncomfortable with guests who didn't speak Italian. Apart from that we enjoyed our stay, hiked a lot, the landscape is gorgeous.

This is an old "albergo" with a personality. The interiors mark the history of the place. Clean and well kept. Staff friendly and competent, though a bit reserved. Good food! Good parking conditions. When we were their they had a lot of elderly pensioners, wish we could speak Italian! Only negative experience was a rather noisy bed. Varese Ligure is a nice town, not many tourists. Within reach of Cinque Terre. Nice hiking trails in the area.

This hotel was truly awful and I cannot believe that the other reviewers stayed at the same hotel. On first impresions, the hotel looked wonderfuland is fronted by a beautiful garden and terrace area. However, it was downhill from there. The ladies who worked on the reception and in the restaurant were strange and seemed socially awkward. When we arrived in our room, the decor wasn't anything like the photos on this website and consisted of mismatched shades of green. (lime green, grey green, mint green - we clearly had the green room). The bathroom was decorated in a seventies style and smelt faintly of urine. The toilet flush handle was broken and we instead had to pull the part to which the handle would be attached which was covered with a dried yellow and brown glue. The shower/bath was strange, a short, tall bucket woth a seat and no shwer curtain. The water was brown when first ran. The room had a terrace, however we didn't use it as we couldn't get the broken rolling shutter to stay up. The net curtain was hanging off on the left side. The hotel itself is full of antiques and knick-knacks. I was surprised that a hotel would spend so much on supurflous items when the room was in such a poor state. We booked for dinner at the restaurant. The menu was extensive with average prices. However, teh food was poor value. A seven euro starter consisted of shop-bought marinated anchovies arranged on a plate. I'd ordered grilled trout for my main course with a side order of courgette. The fish and my husband's steak arrived alone without the side orders. No side plate was provided for the skin, bones and head of the fish. The fish was cooked on the outside but turned out to be raw in the middle. I snet the dish back and the smae piece of fish was brought back several minutes later, not a new fish. After finishing the main courses, we were asked if we would like dessert, despite not having received the sde orders. We were then brought a rather unappetising dish

Accueil peu chaleureux, chambre très bruyante sur rue, décoration des chambres à rafraichir. Toutefois, chambre très propre et assez spacieuse

This place reminds us of an old, small, quiet picturesque hotel. It does not have an elevator, so all luggage must be carried by hand up the stairs. Breakfast is included with your stay. Also it has Wifi internet connection at a reasonable price. Staff is always around to answer your questions and some of the staff speaks English.

The meals were excellent! very quiet dining room, a really peaceful place. The family staff is very kind. A nice place to stay, for family looking for authentic and cool stay. We came to visit the "cinque terre" and it's a little far from it (about 1 hour far). But the travel through the mountain worth it!

GREAT! I have traveled to almost every continent, staying in big, medium and small hotels. this is by far one of the best stays I have had. The hotel was very clean, very pretty. It had all the comforts of a home and the people were extremely helpful. It's family owned. I do not speak Italian, they helped me with directions, my car rental reservations, and more. I definitely would recommend this place to anyone who is planning to visit the Ligure Riviera.
