I can't say enough, a wonderful hotel with friendly staff and excellent services from wine to dinner and breakfast to room. I would highly recommend and look forward to coming back. Only downfall for anyone, if you are scared of heights, don't come and do take a taxi from the train station, it is a bit of a hike if you walk. Very walkable to town. Loved it, great way to wrap up a six week vacation in Italy with husband.

This is an unusual hotel perched on the side of a steep hillside. It appears to be an eccentric house for signore Pirelli in its past life. Connection to upper rooms is via an external funicular which is rather exciting but maybe unsuitable for people who suffer from heights? The rooms are small and rather sparse with furnishings. However the views are stunning and car parking is welcome for the nearby town of varenna.

Lovely, expansive views of Lake Como, a close walk to town and the train station. If we had known the difference we would have booked one of the rooms one floor above us which have balconies. The shower was all part of the bathroom with no separate stall which took us some getting used to. But all-in-all, our room was quite adequate, and the complimentary breakfast was good.

Absolutely wonderful views! This property is great for a relaxing retreat. Walkable to Varenna, and very safe! The Teolinda Room was fabulous and would highly recommend. You could just stay in your private terrace to enjoy the views from day to evening.

Spectacular views and very pictoresque distribution of rooms, gardens and terraces. The experience of staying in the upper terrace is fantastic. However, the localization of the rooms and the initial stairs would need a specific staff for reception and luggages, and I am sure that this help would be pleseantly paid. For ancient not European people who travel for a longer period than the European tourists commonly do, it is pratically impossible to deal with the lugagges in this very beatiful turistic hotel.

We had the large suite with balcony (4 nights) and a smaller room for one night but on the upper level, taking two funiculars up to the room. Unfortunately, the property is vastly underutilized. Don't have dinner at the restaurant! Breakfast, purchase your own fruit as there isn't any nor is there fresh milk or drinkable coffee. Recommend breakfast out too! Trust someone can improve these points because the property is spectacular and the staff are extremely professional, competent and helpful.

We stayed in a balcony room for 3 nights. The hotel is located on a hill but it's no more than 10 minutes walk down to town. The room was spacious and very clean with a stunning lake view. Oddly we didn't have hot water from the shower in the first morning, when we complained to the receptionist she didn't really know what had gone wrong. The remaining days during our stay seemed to be perfectly fine. We also found the room a bit noisy as you could hear people talking from next door, added to that, as it was located right below the restaurant we were waken by moving chairs in the morning around 8am during breakfast time. The buffet breakfast was standard but sufficient in quantity.

It is a long ten-minute walk uphill from the center of town, which is a hike up from the lake. The only meal served at the hotel was breakfast, which was an inconvenience given the remote location. We heard conversations from adjacent rooms and the terrace. The host was surly when asked for a second glass and a cork screw. It felt like a dorm room.

Staff was very helpful and rooms were clean had a lovely view of Lake Como. Hiring a cab is recommendable though if arriving by train since the hotel is quite a ways from the center of the town.

5 min walk from the centre of town, wonderful views from the rooms with balcony. Good standard breakfast provided. Only issue was our room was below the restaurant so late into the night and early in the morning we could hear chairs moving and people walking around.

I went here with my boyfriend for 4 nights stay. We booked one of the rooms with a balcony and as soon as we saw the room we were extremely pleased. We loved the place and the view out over the lake. Have some great photos of an amazing sunset. Breakfast in the morning was great quality and quite peaceful on the hotel veranda looking out over the lake. It was about a 5 minute walk to the start of the town and 15 minutes to the ferry. The walking didn't bother us at all, and I would most definitely go back there again and stay in this lovely hotel.

Not for the faint of heart. Access is somewhat difficult. Hotel restaurant was not operational. View of lake Cumo breathtaking. Quality of rooms exceptional. Look up meaning of "funicular" before booking.

We were a little lost, since there are 2 buildings. Through a door that clearly was NOT a guest room I could hear a TV. I knocked, to get help. The man who came to the door was clearly annoyed that we had somehow managed to come up to the higher building on the funicular.(The elevator door was open and we simply entered.)He was most unfriendly. The young woman at the front desk was delightful and helpful with suggestions. She made our stay very pleasant. The next morning, we went to the front desk to check out. Guess who? That's right. The grumpy guy from the day before. Apparently he's the owner or part of the staff. Decidedly unpleasant. At the risk of encountering him again, we would NOT stay there.

What a BEAUTIFUL place to stay!! The views, both of the charming slate-roofed village houses and the stunning mountain vistas, were just magnificent. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Thank you! It was a shame there was no wi fi available, but we understand the physical difficulties of installing it. We were able to use one guest computer in the breakfast area however.

Access to the hotel required a walk up steep steps and hill, difficult for elderly people such as us. We thought access was via a finicular, as indicated in Rick Steves' book on Italy, but not so. We would appreciate that you share this comment with him.

Hotel hard to find. Streets not marked. Air conditioners were turned OFF on Sept 20th, even though temps in the mid 80s! Laundry pick-up outside at 6:00am was noisy. Restaurant lists"Open Daily", but was closed on Monday. Wi-fi only available in dining room, if you can get it at all. Continental breakfast was fine, but the pastries were burned. Not recommended for the disabled, or folks with mobility issues, as this hotel is on a steep incline, to go back on forth to Varenna. Lighting poor to access hotel at night once restaurant is closed. Beautiful view from Terrace Room #1.

We stayed in the Teolinda suite, and it was just spectacular. Getting to the suite requires riding up two elevators, but the view was absolutely stunning and the suite was very spacious. Aside from moths outside the room at night (the resort is surrounded by beautiful nature, after all), the room inside was clean. It's a bit of a hike up to the hotel from the rest of the town, but definitely worth it, and I noticed that some guests drove to and from the hotel. I am recommending this hotel to my family and friends!

A very interesting place. Hard to find - our SatNav couldn't find it and the narrow steep hairpin bends were a bit daunting - but well worth it. We took two inclinators and a lift to our room way up the hillside. The hotel gardens are magic - so peaceful. Fantastic views of the lake. I am so glad we stayed here.

The hotel has an excellent location near Varenna. The standard rooom we had was very basic with old furniture and a small window. The breakfast was very poor with no fresh ham or sliced cheese. A sort of ham and liverpate were served in little tiny plastic packages, the same size as marmelade and butter. The hardboiled eggs were black inside. Apparently they had been there for many days. We told the girl who served, but no reaction. It was the same next morning. We stayed at another cheaper hotel at Lake Como with an excellent breakfast. The view from the terrace was breathtaking. It is a short stroll to the village from the hotel.

Great stay with a beautiful balcony view. The only negative was the walk up the hill. It's nothing we couldn't handle, just made you not want to make trips back to the hotel in middle of the day.

Eremo Gaudio was one of the best places we stayed at during our trip to Italy. The room was large and clean (with our own bathroom with a large tub!) and had a WONDERFUL view of the lake, as well as access to many places to relax and enjoy the view. The staff was very friendly and very accomodating - right when we checked in we got thorough reccomendations on sites, food, travel, internet and accomodation details. The continental breakfast in the morning was large and had a great variety and good coffee. The hotel ran very smoothly over all and had the best views of the lake and the town - and all for a very reasonable price for the area (we were backpacking and on a budget). Thanks for a wonderful stay!

Beautiful lodgings! We especially enjoyed the view of the Lake from the balcony. I found it very quiet, since it was out of the way of the main tourist areas. On the other side of the coin, the walk from town back was slow going, especially for us old folks. Having breakfast in the morning was another plus!

Absolutely delightful setting overlooking Lake Como. Very quiet because of short distance uphill from Veranno. Access by taxi from Station is 10 euros (flat rate), otherwise expect a good walk. Very welcoming and competent staff (English & French spoken)

Overall what we wanted from a hotel we were able to get and a fair price. I'll try to provide a fair review having stayed in Europe before. The room was clean and totally functional. The view was spectacular. We stayed in the lower part of the hotel beneath the breakfast area. I don't remember the room number but we heard chairs moving early in the morning when either folks where up or staff were preparing the breakfast buffet. This was the biggest negative. The breakfast food was very good. Pastries, hard boiled egg, cheese, coffee, juice, cereal. We sat outside looking over the lake at Bellaggio and Menaggio. One of the staff was really helpful and fun to talk with. She gave us great information. However, one staff member did not know women had to have their knees covered to visit the Duomo. However, other folks were told the same that stayed at other hotels. We found Varrenna to be a more enjoyable town over Bellaggio and Mennaggio. The train runs beneath the hotel which can wake you in the morning but it's convenient vs. accessing it from the other two towns. I do believe you might not hear the train as much if you stayed in the upper part of the hotel or another hotel. Also keep in mind the bells ring the time in these small towns which can also wake you at night. THe shower was fine yet some folks thought it was small. Remember these are old buildings with showers added well after the buildings were constructed. Over all I would recommend this hotel, staff, food and location. It was a little farther walk (5 min) than the other hotels but walking is great in these towns and you will not get the view we had without the walk.
