This is an exquisite hotel on the inside, but the outside could use some work. The price we paid, 110 Euros per night, was a very good value for such a refined interior. Buffet breakfasts and dinners are both expensive, but worth it if you will eat a lot. (Breakfast is 18 Euros, but if you are staying 3 days or more and commit to having it every day when you arrive, you'll only pay 12 Euros. Dinner is 32 Euros.) We did not have the breakfast but saw what was offered. Unless you really do want a big breakfast, you're better off walking up into Valletta and having a pastry and coffee at one of the many cafes on the main street. We did have the buffet dinner and were very impressed at the number of dishes offered and found them all very delicious. We had an excellent a la carte dinner the second night. The service at dinner and the front desk was very friendly. My only criticism of the hotel is that one must walk up a long staircase and then uphill to reach the bus terminal and entrance to Valletta. For young, healthy people, that will not be a problem. But elderly or sick people might need to take a shuttle or taxi. I happened to be sick while in Malta and was annoyed at having to pay 12 Euros for the hotel's shuttle to drive my wife an me up to the city entrance. To put that price in perspective, it only cost us 1.5 Euros each to buy day passes for Malta's public bus system and 5.5 Euros each for transportation from the hotel to the airport which is a twenty minute drive. So, the price of 12 Euros was obnoxious. To add insult to injury, when I complained about this while checking out, the desk clerk pointed out that they do have a free shuttle at 10am and 6pm. But that's a joke; their shuttle can transport at most 8-10 people but they probably have over 200 guests at any time. They should really have a free shuttle running every 15 or 30 minutes or even upon request. I wouldn't mind if they charged 1 or 2 Euros, but 12 Euros was extortion.

We stayed one week in this hotel in Valletta. Very warm welcoming and very service minded staff. Breakfast quite ok. We had dinner twice at the hotel. One time a la carte and one evening the buffet (that have different themes during the week). Easily entrance to Valletta. The pool area is nice and staff are very kind here. The gym was very well equipped with new apparats. We did not use the spa department, but passed it on the way to the pool. Looked very nice.

Got a reasonably priced room without a view but that didn't matter as views from other locations in hotel were good. Staff were always friendly and helpful. Location was very convenient to buses and the old town of Valletta.

Excellent location a few hundred yards from the city wall entrance. Mind you do have to negotiate the steps up to the main road level so you may need to take your time. The hotel itself is calm and spacious the staff are plentiful and friendly. The room was large with very high ceilings and a balcony facing the sea. The housekeeping was exceptional complete with turndown service each night plus towel replacement. Breakfast is buffet style with great variety of foods. The hotel boasts an indoor and outdoor pool with views over the water plus plenty of seating enabling you to relax.

The view from the breakfast restaurant was superb,of course the cuisine as well. The staffs were highly trained and helpful. As the road navigation to Mdina by one of the staffs was so precise and proper that we were able to get there and return to Valletta with no problem at all. We have fully enjoyed the stay at Excelsior in MALTA .

we have just returned from our stay at the Excelsior Malta and feel quite overwhelmed with the grandeur ,without being too opulent, and comfort of this lovely hotel. The rooms were lovely and spacious with fantastic shower and bathrooms. we were fortunate to have a balcony with a lovely outlook onto the grand entrance of the hotel which was all kept clean and in good order. The dining and lounge areas were amazing with wonderful views of the harbour. We had a buffet on the second evening[asian night] and it was absoulutely out of this world, the chefs and their staff work incredibly hard to prepare and create such wonderful food to suit all tastes-it was WOW!And I must give so much credit also for the superb breakfasts that they provided to the same standerd every morning. What an amazing selection and everything was consistently clean, fresh and well presented. Last but not least, I cannot find the words to express my gratitude to ALL the staff involved who made the stay so wonderful. I have never met such curteous, helpful and friendly people. From the minute you arrive, you are greeted with a warm welcome from the courtier and front desk staff , whom promptely arrange a refreshing arrivals drink which I thought was a thoughtful idea for all guests. I must say that the staff on ALL levels are trained to a very high standard and it reflects in the service that they provde and they are an asset to the Exelsior Hotel. Many many thanks to you all. I have only one comment that reflected in my scoring for the rooms.. I know that nowhere can get everything right all of the time but I couldn't help but notice the beige carpets in the rooms were quite heavily stained in areas and also in the corriders by the door entrances. The carpets must be really difficult to hoover and keep clean for the domestic staff and wondered if tiled floors would solve the stain issues. Like I said, just a small observation in an otherwise beautifully decorated hotel.

During the morning we had to leave our rooms in advance due to lack of electricity. Even in the lobby electricity was going and coming back.
