Hotel Bed & Breakfast Mare de Deu - Jardines del Turia - Valencia

The B&B looked good. It's situated in a great neighborhood. We went during Fallas week and understand that every hotel in Valencia was overpriced. The price for this place was ridiculously high for what we got. We stayed 3 nights and payed US$300. Our room had one adequate-sized bathroom en suite, with a shower and sink. The room was nicely decorated, but all it had was a double room - no tables, no desk. There was no TV in our room and the WIFI worked once. There was a sliding road that led to a courtyard with a little table and chair, which, I'm sure people use when it's warm. There was no view to the room! At times there was a terrible sewage smell, but this is not unusual in Spain. What really bothered me was that every room in the B&B had a TV, except ours, and some of them faced the street. I assumed there were no rooms with TV, or I would have asked for one. We could not figure how to use the heater in the room, and there was no one there to show us. I got sick while in that B&B and it was a most depressing experience to be cooped in a room so small and w/o a view, especially when we were paying more than we payed at a place like Palacio de Los Veladas in Avila where 65 euros a night got you a palace room! Very, very disappointed with this place.

My room was nicely furnished and bathroom as well. Everything very cleaned. The breakfast is in a very nice Panaderia close to the hotel. Besides that, the B&B is quite well located - walking time: 10 minutes from city center, 10 from City of Sciences and 40 minutes from F1 Circuit/American's Cup area. Some issues: - the reception is not present 24h, therefore if one needs something, has to wait the presence time; - internet could have problems. There was WiFi field, but my laptop had to be set up for using it. - breakfast could be not enough (1 hot drink and 1 croissant). - my room had the worst view ever, but it does not mean that also the other rooms have it.

Well... It says that all - "bed & breakfast" and that is literary it! There was no window, apart from one to public coridore which you would wish to keep shut! No table, no chair, no TV, no air conditioning, apart from a huge fan above your head that leaves you little choice to sweat or having a helicopter above your head! Cave-like lighting (massive energy saving though) with prison-like iron bed (so you can’t break it when in despair)! Shower & toilet - out side, down the coridor, Wi-Fi works as and when wants to! Breakfast purely symbolic to justify the name - 5 min. walk from the hotel in a little café where none understand a word in English (there is nothing to talk about though, it just a micro cup of caffe and a piece of pasty)! When asked the receptionist if they got a room with at least a TV in it or a window to see a bit of a sunlight, have been told they got it only in Superior Double rooms at double the price! So, well... if you had your life just too good and need a bit of a shake up – you won’t find a place better than that!!! After all – location is good enough to hang around the old and new beautiful city of Valencia! What else do you need, don’t you?

Reception on checkin was unfriendly; when asking for information about hotel location, the man said they had no maps, and I could just find the 'fallas' outside the door. I didn't need tho know where the fallas were, I needed to get back to the hotel after going out for dinner. Eventually, another staff member found an old tourist guidebook that had a map, where they showed me the hotel location. The reception area, despite being large, always smelt of sewage. The room was small, had insufficient lighting.
