We had a pleasent stay. The room was spacious and quiet, its cleaness was impeccable, the hotel personnel was always friendly and helpful. The breakfast was rich, although the room turned out to be too small if a large fraction of guests happened to gather at the same time. The private parking is a fundamental asset in Urbino. All in all, a highly advisable option, if you aren't on a tight budget! The lack of free Internet connection is a stain in the overall high service quality

The San Domenico is a beautiful hotel in a beautiful city. Incredible location just opposite Palazzo Ducale, one of the finest residences of the Italian Renaissance with masterpieces by the greatest Italian artists. The hotel is housed in a former convent, with a deliberately minimalist style. Rooms are spacious and well equipped. Excellent breakfast (not included) with sweet and savory delights. Friendly and competent staff. Price a bit expensive but reasoned. Urbino is wonderful but it takes very comfortable shoes because it's all hills and stairs!

The room was large and overlooked a cortile. the problem was with the air-conditioning as it was determined by the desk for some reason. So, it was off more than on.

We stayed at the start of our holiday and again at the end. Very tranqil hotel right in the centre of Urbino with secure parking on site. Pricey, but worth it for the location. Excellent, friendly staff. An ideal stop-over when arriving at or leaving from the port of Ancona.

Excellent and very spacious room, wonderful staff, good location in the medieval city of Urbino. Highly recommended. Note that the "splendid courtyard" of the old convent is mostly used as a parking lot for guests (which was OK for us) and the Internet access is not free.

Very well situated if difficult to find by car. Has car parking. Only provides breakfast which isn't included in the price but had a good choice, especially fruit. Poor public areas. Had to use the lift all the time as the stair access was alarmed. Hotel gives the impression of being in decline.

I have mixed emotions about the Hotel San Domenico. The Location was excellent, but otherwise I was not too crazy about. The room was spacious but it was difficult to find. I would get lost everytime I tried to return to it. Furthermore, it was very noisy and poorly furnished. Between the birds outside and its proximity to the breakfrast room, I would wake up quite early every morning, somewhat tired. The people at the desk were pleasant, but the breakfast room staff looked stern and unfriendly. If I ever returned to San Gimignano, I would probably look for a different hotel.

First time in Urbino and the San Domenico. Location of the Hotel was exellent and the rooms were spacious. But the facilities are poor both in the room and generally in the hotel, and the optional breakfast and car parking were expensive. Apart from one of the night porters, the staff were generally polite but the reception area was unwelcoming and no meal facilities other than breakfast. Cleanliness and quality of the rooms was good but the corridors are noisy and this was at a time when there wasn't that many other guests. Overall, I'd say the hotel was OK but only just, the location is its biggest asset but it's over priced and it's never a four star hotel - more like a reasonable 2 star to me.

This was my first time to this hotel and to Urbino. It was New Year's day so my review is based on reduced staff since many had the day off for the holiday. The staff was friendly and helpful if not a little slow. The room was spacious, quiet and comfortable. Parking had to be pointed out but was secure and conveniently located on site. Urbino is a wonderful town to explore.

The only problem with the San Domenico was that we did not stay long enough. The room and the public areas were beautiful. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent. The location could not be better; across the street from the entrance to the Ducal Palace and a five minute walk from the Piazza Della Republica which is the main meeting spot in town. A hotel of this quality in Rome, Florence, etc. would cost at least twice as much.

San Domenico was our 4th hotel among many in our month long travel in Italy, some more pricey and some less. We were very pleased with our entire stay in Urbino. The room was immaculate, spacious and extremely comfortable. Parking was secure within their courtyard and very convenient. A luggage trolley was handy as was the lift. The breakfast was a generous full breakfast buffet. A small bar in the lobby provided beverages. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. There was no safe in the room but the Manager at the desk stored our valubles in the hotel vault. We loved Urbino in March and the Hotel San Domenico and hope to return.

Why ****S ? Rooms cleaned up very late. Lift and lounge (reception) a Sauna !Back of beds not fixed on the wall, they make noise if you move and if your neighbours make love (also the skreeking of the Lady very loud) it's like percussion on the wall. No nice public area - the courtyard too hot and between the cars !No possibility for me to practice my instrument (being participant of Urbino musica antica). Personal very gentle.

My wife and I spent one night at Albergo San Domenico in October 2005. Its location is perfect for visiting the Palazzo Ducale, as it is just opposite. Our room was well-appointed and quiet, but the buffet breakfast was not included in the price for our room. Had we known this, we either would have taken more advantage of the rather large spread or gone to one of the nearby cafes. Parking at an additional cost was provided in the hotel's courtyard.

The property is very nice and is sited right in the middle of Urbino. This is good, but in the maps available on the web site no indication of how to reach the property by car via the numerous and complex one way streets is given. There is actually one way to get to the hotel and one way to get away from the hotel - and while it's easy to get out of town once you are there, it's pretty difficult to find the way in! A few arrows on the map, indicating direction of traffic flow would make life much easier.

The staff at San Domenico was extremely helpful and considerate. We arrived late and had difficulty finding our way into the city. We had parked below and taken a cab into the walled city. Hotel staff gave us a ride back to public parking and clear directions to the hotel's reserved parking. Staff recommendations for dining were outstanding. Public areas in the hotel were spacious and comfortable. The experience was very positive overall.

My wife and I stayed here two years ago for 85 euro. The advertised price on venere was around 76 euro for myself which sound correct. When I checked out they charged me 11 euro for a poor breakfast and 9 euro to park my car (an additional 20 euro above the advertised price). This made the stay for me this time more expensive for myself then it did when my wife and I stayed here in 2002. I will not stay in this hotel again as it is a nice hotel but I feel they are just not honest like the other hotels that I stayed in Italy.

Some room accessories are not of the right general level of the hotel, such as: Pictures, they should be replaced by large stamps of Urbino. Central roof lamps, inadequate with the hotel style. Forniture, not properly adequate with the hotel style and rates In addition, the rate for the internal parking should not be applied taking into acount that the room rates are not properly cheap.

SAN DOMENICO IS A VERY GOOD HOTEL, WITH EXCELLENT STAFF AND LOCATION TO MATCH. I FEEL THAT IT SHOULD HAVE A RESTURANT OFFERING EVENING MEALS. ALSO PAYING £8 EXTRA FOR BREAKFAST PER PERSON WAS UNACCEPTABLE. WITH THE COST OF THE ROOM ONE WOULD EXPECT THE INCLUSION OF BREAKFAST IN THE PRICE. WE FEEL THAT THE HOTEL HAS EXCELLENT POTENTIAL, BUT IS NOT USING ITS FACILITIES TO ITS FULL CAPABILITIES

The hotel was beautiful -- one of the nicest hotels I've stayed at. It had a really nice massage chair in it which my travelling companion really enjoyed. The room was quiet, overlooking a nice courtyard. The hotel is situated in across from the Palazzo overlooking a really nice Piazza. As Urbino has very little vehicular traffic, it was very quiet. The breakfast was very nice, although we appear to have been charged separately for it, which was a surprise. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay here again.

I had asked for a twin bedded room on your site and this was not related to the hotel. This was the only complaint I had, easily overcome by the hotel. The breakfast was the best we had on our tour of Le Marche - excellent. It would have been nicer perhaps, if one was being really picky, to have a more comfortable bar area to relax in slightly felt like one was sitting in the lobby.

A charming hotel. We were on, I think, the 5th floor and had views from the hall outside our room into the chapel next door. That was a particularly nice touch. The room was very large and airy on a hot July day and that was much appreciated. I'd certainly return. The hotel was difficult to find, but we did not have a map and just followed signs along the streets. Maybe say it is right across the street from the palace? Thanks

I have been dreaming to visit Urbino for more than 30 years since I read a history book of Italian Renaissance in my University time. The hotel offered, san Domenico, was really excellent from all aspects. Next time, I would like to take my wife & daughter to re-visit Urbino. I hope this excellent city shall not be too much tourism oriented. Thank you. Kazuaki Takanose

My wife and I very much liked the simple atmosphere (it's a well refurbished former monastery right next to a world heritage site not a Hilton) and also the calm and absence of over-attentive and fussy service, but can understand why some people who look for that might be disappointed. We would definitely come back and also recommend to the like-minded.

The size and style of the room and the ambience and location of the hotel were very good. There were however a few glitches, some of which were admittedly not the hotel's fault. Our first problem was being unable how to work out how to reach the hotel by car, given that central Urbino is enclosed within city walls with very tightly controlled entry and one way systems. Eventually we had to leave the car just inside the walls and walk up an extremely steep hill to ask the hotel for directions. So a map of how exactly to get there would be a useful feature of the website. Having arrived in the room, which was very nice, we couldn't get the airconditioning to work. Eventually it was got working to a limited extent; but only after 4 phone calls to reception who ended up having to set it centrally somehow, and who couldn't set it lower than 21 degrees. We felt they should just have moved us to another room straightaway instead of wasting an hour of our evening trying to sort it out. About 5 minutes after we'd finally got some airconditioning, the power to the whole hotel went off ! So we just gave up on the idea of being able to shower and change and went out. We were relatively lucky, though, as some guests were trapped in the lift and had to be freed by the fire brigade. I've no idea if this is a regular occurrence or not. Incidentally, I woudn't recommend staying in Urbino as it was very, very quiet. If you are staying, though, the hotel is ideally positioned right opposite the ducal palace which contains the museo civico. Having failed to find anywhere appealing in nighttime Urbino we returned to the hotel, deciding just to have a bottle of wine in the rather pleasant courtyard. This however was a bit of a letdown as the night manager was only able to offer us a choice of red or white (not very good), and had to scrabble aound to find 2 glasses (one of which he had to wash). It was only a quarter to ten, but we got the impression that we were suppos

As we walked to our room we could see that we were indeed staying in a previous convent, a large church was attached to the hotel and you could see inside the church from the 4th floor (and I assume all floors) hallway. The air conditioning worked really well (welcome during the summer 2003 heatwave) and my daughter wanted to add that the bathroom was spacious and great.

We were very pleased with our stay at the San Demenico in Urbino. The location is very good being almost directly opposite the Palazzo Ducale, and being a short walk to other sights. Our room was clean and quiet; house-keeping was helpful. Our only concern was that we had thought breakfast was included, and felt that the Euro 11 per person charge to be more than we would have wanted to pay. The hotel staff pointed out that the confirmation had indicated room only, and so I have no complaint there, but the fact of non-inclusion and the fee might have been made clear when we checked in. I would recommend this hotel to all, it is excellent.

This hotel operate a cheating and deceiving policy!! 1) I booked a "Junior Suite" and got a normal dbl. room with a sad view to the parking yard at a price 71 euro more than the pleasant dbl. room I had booked for our friends at the same hotel. The difference was that the Junior suite had an electric kettle, but NO powder coffee. We asked for the normal Nescafe sachets, but no, these were not available in Italy (??) 2) On the night we arrived we told reception we had to leave on saturday in stead of sunday due to change of plans. We were told in no uncertain terms that if we did, we still had to pay the full price for that night! In the confirmation from the hotel the cancellation policy is explained with two lines in English. But further down 5 lines in Italian, which I am not able to understand! This is obviously a policy they use to cheat and deceive customers. After this sad experience I cannot take the chance of using Venere to book hotels in the future, also because when this problem occured I had no way to contact you for help as I have no telephone of fax no.
