A wonderful place. Great location. Helpful staff. Rooftop terrace was a pure delight. Noisy location required the use of air conditioning at night but this was not a problem. Excellent breakfast. We were given a treat bag (coffee and candy) on our departure) What a nice touch!

The service was excellent, the staff couldn't do enough for us. They showed us a variety of rooms for us to choose from on arrival and were polite and courteous throughout.

We stayed in the dependance "residenza Il Duomo" In the centre of Tropea Very nice rooms , and fabulous breakfast on the terasse ,with sight on the old town and the sea. Very helpful staff in Res. Il Duomo, they speak only Italian ! We would stay in Il Duomo again !

This hotel is ideally placed at the edge of the old town, on the way from the railway station. The ten-minute walk down to the sea view is down the main thoroughfare, a popular promenade, worth doing many times! Other visitors have mentioned the breakfast. This is served on a pretty roof terrace and is certainly unusually varied (the fresh fruit and the little cakes are delicious), but you don't necessarily get all the items, or the same selection as the next table, or things in the usual order, or the same things the next day - at least when the place is very busy. If something doesn't come, it's worth going up to the hatch and asking one of the staff (they're very pleasant). Possible tip. When we were there the hotel could provide a driver to take us on a trip inland, at a reasonable price. He was both friendly and knowledgeable.

I stayed at the Hotel Villa Antica Tropea in October 2008. I found the employees very helpful. We had a beautiful room. It is the one that is featured on the card in the lobby with the frescos. It was a suite with views of the courtyard. It was everything and more! Very romantic. The breakfast was unbelievable, we should have known when they pulled up a table next to ours how good it was going to be. They just kept bringing over food until both the table we were sitting at and the table they added were full of food. The town is very nice - we walked down the main street and did a little shopping. At the end of the main street is a piazza where you can see the prettiest sunset. It must be a popular spot because there were a lot of people their as well enjoying the views. I would definitely stay at this hotel again. Recommend it highly!

Friendliest hotel I ever stayed in. When arrived assisted with bags, offered choice of available rooms.Breakfast is a feast which lasts to near noon and staff were so helpful.Only slight problem was wasps in outdoor dining area. Hope to go back someday

Pleasant hotel, tiny and dark room, but nice enough. Breakfast was excellent! A bit expensive in August. Tropea was crowded this time of year, and in need of a renovation.

we stayed in a garden room and it was really lovely. i couldnt recommend it enough. the owners of the hotel couldn't be more helpful only problem was finding the hotel we drove around for 1 hour. other than that it was perfect.

If you're looking for something a bit different, Villa Antica is the place for you. It is packed full of charm and quirkiness. The staff and friendly, helpful and speak excellent English and the breakfast was huge and served on their lovely roof terrace. On the down side, our room was tiny - there wasn't even room for a bedside table on my side of the bed. Parking is completely impossible and there are no directions on how to get to the hotel, so you arrive extremely frazzled. This also isn't a 4* hotel. It's a good 3*, but not what I would expect from a 4*. We were therefore disappointed on arrival, but should have worked this out from the price. You don't get 4* for 86 Euros. The photo is also misleading. We booked this as a quiet stopover with a nice garden on our way up from Sicily. The hotel is in the middle of a lively, bustling town. It is NOT quiet. On the up side, Tropea is a very attractive, lively seaside town with lots of life.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.THE STAFF COULD NOT HAVE BEEN MORE FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL IN ALL RESPECTS, BUT ESPECIALLY IN LIAISING WITH ALITALIA OVER A LOST BAG AND FITTING IN WITH A LATE CHANGE IN OUR HOMEBOUND FLIGHT NECESSITATING THEIR TAKING US TO THE AIRPORT AT AN EARLIER HOUR IN THE MIDDLE OF BREAKFAST. THE BREAKFASTS WERE OF A CONSISTENTLY HIGH STANDARD, WITH MANY OPTIONS ALL OF WHICH COULD BE TAKEN EVERY DAY. EATING ON THE ROOF TERRACE WAS PLEASURABLE, AND ON THE ONE DAY WHEN IT RAINED AFTER WE HAD STARTED WE TRANSFERRED TO OUR ROOMS AND WERE SERVED THERE INSTEAD. WE STAYED FOR SEVEN NIGHTS AND LOVED BOTH THE HOTEL AND TROPEA ITSELF. THE HOTEL IS ONLY A FEW STRIDES FROM THE CENTRE OF TOWN AND ABOUT TEN MINUTES WALK FROM THE STATION FROM WHICH WE MADE TWO DAY TRIPS - ONE JUST 30 MINUTES UP THE LINE TO PIZZO(WELL WORTH A VISIT) AND THE OTHER A LONGER TRIP TO MESSINA ON SICILY WHICH WAS QUITE SPECTACULAR AS THE LINE HUGS THE COAST FOR MOST OF THE WAY AND THE CROSSING OVER THE STRAITS FROM VILLA SAN GIOVANNI AFFORDED EVEN BETTER VIEWS. THE FARE EACH FOR THE RETURN TRIP TO MESSINA WAS ONLY 9.30 EUROS! THERE WOULD ALSO HAVE BEEN BOAT TRIPS FROM TROPEA ITSELF IF WE HAD BEEN THERE IN MAY INSTEAD OF APRIL. THERE WERE LOADS OF PLACES TO EAT IN TROPEA. WE LIKED THE FACT THAT THE OLD TOWN HAS LOADS OF AUTHENTIC CHARACTER WHICH HAS NOT BEEN OVERWHELMED BY THE TOURIST INDUSTRY. ALL IN ALL WE WE WOULD FIND IT DIFFICULT TO FAULT OUR HOLIDAY(ALITALIA EXCEPTED). WE ARE 56 AND 58.

The map provided was rather vague, and it took some sleuthing to find a better map on the web so that we would know when we arrived at the trainstation where exactly to go. (Seriously, it's a five minute walk with only one turn.) Villa Antica highlights their largest room in their photographs, but we didn't have any qualms with the size of ours being smaller. There was a kitchenette we shared with our neighboring room, and the free rooftop breakfast was ample and delicious (even for us wee vegetarians). Be sure to bring cash or an ATM card, most places we stopped don't accept credit cards (and you'll want some handmade lace to take home with you!) A twenty-minute walk south will reveal quieter, less populated, beaches with stunning views.

Per la nostra prima volta a Tropea abbiamo soggiornato un paio di giorni in questo delizioso hotel che è un'antica villa proprio a 2 passi dal centro di Tropea, raggiungibile quindi a piedi. Il personale è molto gentile e disponibile , la nostra stanza non spaziosissima, ma pulita e comoda. La colazione viene servita su una bellissima terrazza. Da raccomandare sicuramente!
