Hotel Zur Post - Trier

A bit far from the city

Location should be explained, this hotel is not in the city, but several miles outside. It was quite difficult to find in a strange place and on the edge of an industrial area with major work both in the hotel and on the road outside.However this was compensated for by the warm and hospitable welcome.

Reception staff not very friendly or welcoming. Room bathroom was dirty upon arrival, with piles of dirty towels and mold in the shower. We informed staff and immediately received clean towels (sink was cleaned but not toilet or shower). Beds were made but rumpled as if someone sat on them after they were made. Location was in the "Gewerbegebeit" (commercial area; think auto dealers, etc) so not very attractive, and pretty desolate in the evening. Breakfast was average, typical German foods but nothing special. Overall stay was average, although the dirty bathroom made us feel like the entire room was dirty. Free street parking in front of hotel if you can find a space. I would not stay here again.

We loved the Zur Post! We arrived pretty late after driving all the way from Paris. They were so nice to us. When I asked them where we could get a meal they offered to make us dinner. It was delicious. The rooms were spacious and clean, with modern bathrooms. The lobby and dining room were more like a traditional pub atmosphere. The breakfast was very good too. We loved the Zur Post, and heartily recommend it to any travelers.

Wonderful German family owned hotel. On our 10 day trip from Paris through Luxembourg, up the Moselle and down the Rhein, this was the best night's sleep we got. The bed was SO comfortable, huge new bathroom, SO, SO quiet. It's a little out of the actual town of Trier, but if you see the town of Trier first & stay the night here, then continue on, you'll have a great rest. The breakfast the next morning is very nice, and included in the price.

The hotel is on a very busy motorway with late night and early morning traffic. Location is about 4km to the downtown/tourist area. There is a local bus but it is better if you have a car. One small main room serves as bar, dining room and reception and opens to the busy motorway. Tax was added to the quoted room price at checkout. We did not expect this. Dinner was good and the included breakfast had many choices.

Friendly and clean if somewhat dated hotel. The food, cooked by the owner is excellent. The location is 6km from Trier Center. However,for those without a car there is a bus stop immediately outside the hotel, 3 busses per hour and only a 10min trip. Get the "Trier pass" which gives, (amongst other things) a free bus pass for 3 days. There is also a pleasant walk amongst trees opposite the hotel with pleasant views of the Mosel. DJ

We had some difficulty finding the hotel. It was more by chance that we stumbled upon it. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was quiet and clean. The breakfast was continental and abundant. In the restaurant, typical German meals were being served. The quality was outstanding and the portions offered were large. The only possible drawback would be the distance to the city centre of Trier. It was about a 10 minute drive. Apparently there's also a good bus link to the centre, but we didn't use it. We would certainly return to this hotel whenever we're in the area. It is very recommendable.

Although a bit noisy, as our room was overlooking the street, it was clean and extremely convienent to Trier. The food was outstanding and the terrace garden absolutely lovely.

Very cosy hotel, nice decoration, very friendly staff and nice cooking.

Although it is a little out of the way and took us a little time to find on the map. The hotel stay was excellent overall. The rooms were great, the food exquisite and the sevices very friendly. The kind of place you want to go back to. Tks to all for a great stay. B. Coulombe

Very friendly and helpful; problem with the booking was sorted out quickly and efficiently (Venere stated that the booking was confirmed when it was not, so Venere's fault!!).
