Hotel Colbert is a charming hotel on a busy, mostly pedestrian-traveled street. My room was spacious and clean; didn't see any other rooms. Tub with hand-held spray nozzle but no shower, but very happy to have a private ensuite bathroom in this price range. Room was quiet (away from street) and as a solo traveler I felt safe in the hotel/room. They offered daily meals for a reasonable price but I was out every day so don't know how they tasted. Staff was friendly and understood well enough my garbled French attempts to ask for a wake-up call. Great Location, just a block away from the Loire River, short 8-10 minute walk to the Gare and to the Old Quarter (in different directions). Plenty of restaurants nearby to eat-in or take-away, a tabac and small grocer to buy drinks or snacks, and a 24-hour storefront with computers and internet just 2 short blocks along Rue Colbert. Terrific Hotel and Location!

The patron was ready and expecting us when we arrived, and had places for our bikes to be safely stored. He and his wife could not have been more helpful and pleasant. Nothing was too much trouble. The location of the hotel was excellent - step out the front door and you are in the middle of the city. It is very easy to found from the Loire a Velo bike route. Our daughter and her partner joined us for a long weekend and our rooms were spacious and clean. Our room had a douche over the bath and our daughter's had a dedicated shower. The breakfast was good value and was fresh and very satisfying. The price was very reasonable and the service far surpassed the star rating of the hotel. Would we go back? Definitely.

The situation of the hotel was superb; on a busy but quiet street (though our rooms were at the back). We were right in the centre of a beautiful and vibrant city. Bertrand our host was friendly and helpful; no request was too much trouble - finding out about buses to swimming pool and sorting out taxi for the airport. The breakfasts were excellent - the freshest croissants and bread - with unlimited supplies of juice and hot drinks. The hot chocolate was really good! Although the stair areas were a bit 'tired' and our room very 80's in decoration, the cleanliness was of the highest standard, and our towels were replaced every day, which is unusual nowadays. We will certainly return to stay at hotel Colbert.

This is an excellent value hotel. Located in a busy street about 10 mins walk to the main shopping area and Old Town. This is a basic hotel so don't expect more. However, the room was large and spotless, large bathroom, good shower and comfortable bed - everything we wanted. We were made very welcome the minute we entered the front door with our suitcases and the staff happily assisted with every request we had. If you want a good value and well located hotel, don't pass this up!

Clean and relatively big rooms, the furniture is in acceptable quality. Very helpfull and friendly stuff. Very good price/quality ratio. Negative - 1.) try to request gardenview room - the hotel is locating in a street full with restaurants - quite noisy till late evening. 2.) No elevator in the hotel - bringing your luggages to the 3rd. floor is very chellenging.

2 lovely spacious rooms overlooking the garden. Bonus to have a bath in the large and clean bathroom. Friendly and helpful staff. Good central location close to restaurants, patisseries, small supermarket and a short walk from the river Loire. 10min walk from train and bus station. Recommend service bus to Chateau Villandry and la Bretagne creperie- reasonable prices, very yummy and catered well for me as a veggie.

Conveniently placed hotel with lots of restaurants close by. Be aware you have to park on nearby streets rather than in a secure car park - to be considered if you have a laden car as we did. We found the reception staff friendly, and our only complaint would be the noise in the courtyard late at night, but I can't really blame the hotel for other guests inconsiderate behaviour. I wouldn't take my elderly parents here because of the stairs. We didn't eat breakfast in the hotel so I can't comment on it. But coffee, hot chocolate and croissants at a local cafe was sufficiently pricey to make it look as if it might be good value for money. We would happily return to this hotel.

The staff was incredibly friendly and nice. The rooms were very functional for our needs and very clean. It is a little bit old, and the place could use some updating, but overall it is just fine. The beds are not the most comfortable, but again, they were sufficient for a few nights' rest. The location is outstanding - close to the shopping area, many nice restaurants, the "happening" part of town, as well as the Loire river which has a very nice walking trail - all easy walking distance from the hotel. It was a little bit noisy at times, but things usually settled down by midnight. This place offers great service, a great price, and has a great location.

Even it's distant from the station, around 20 min walk, it's easily found by walking via the main streets. Plenty of restaurants nearby. Bakery shop and supermarket just at a few steps away. Very convenient. The room was big, clean and quiet with standard decoration. The rose at the backyard was very lovely. No lift was available. We had a large suitcase and they were considerate to arrange our room at the 1st floor. WiFi was available without charge. It's good to check email or news etc. via mobile phone.

The location is right in the city center along a semi-pedestrian street. There is a free parking lot right behind the hotel (off Jacobin Street). Wifi is also available for free. The room is little bit old and dark. Our room overlooked the kitchen of the adjacent restaurant so it was a bit noisy. For the price, it is quite good deal.

Hotel Colbert might be a bit frayed around the edges (the carpet has seen better days) - but it is in a great location on Rue Colbert, with lots of bars and restaurants, and a brisk 10 min walk to the train station and Information office. I was travelling on my own and felt perfectly safe, bot in Tours and in the hotel. I had a double at the back on the second floor (no lift), which was very quiet, and had one of the comfiest beds I've ever slept on. The shower was handheld but powerful, and the bathroom - while there were a few cracked tiles - was kept spotlessly clean. All in all, a great budget hotel and recommended.

We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Colbert. The room was excellent for the price- basic and a little dated, but impeccably clean, with a nice view out the window. The owners were very friendly and hospitable- even provided a hairdryer when I inquired, since there wasn't one in the room initially. The best part of the hotel was the location- on a great pedestrian street with many restaurant options, and a leisurely 10 min walk to the Vinci convention center. Our room had its own WC with a sink, toilet, and bathtub. The showerhead was handheld, instead of mounted to the wall, but we adapted without any trouble. We hope to get back to Tours someday and would definitely stay here again!

The hotel located on a street. It took about 10-15 minutes' walk from the railway station. I booked a single room, however, I got an unexpected huge room with a big bed and a small bed which could accomodate a family easily. The bathroom was also spacious. Quite a few restaurants surrounded the hotel, so it was convenient to eat out. The employee was nice though his English was not good. Overall, the hotel is worthy to be recommended.

Central location but in need of a complete refurbishment. Bathroom was poor with only a handset for a shower. But the room was very big for a French 2 star hotel. We stayed one night at Hotel Colbert and basically only slept in the room and didn't use any other facitities. The hotel has a great location close to all points of interest with many restarunts close by. The hotel had a nice looking courtyard out back which we didn't have time to use. The male receptionist on duty was friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and spacious. The bathroom needed some repairing and we were disappointed not to have a real shower but a hand held spray and tub but we didn't ask if other rooms were available as it was late so it may have been possible to change rooms if we had wanted to. I would stay in Tours again and use it as a base for touring the area.

The Colbert is a small hotel on a pedestrianised street in the old town quarter of Tours within easy walking distance of rail/bus stations, tourist information, major stores and boutiques on the rue Nationale, cathedral, Musee des Beaux Arts and the river Loire. It is surrounded by small cafe/bars, restaurants of all types, with a mini-market and internet cafe within 200 metres. The hotel itself is an old townhouse on four floors (no lift/elevator) with bar and breakfast room (we didn't try either but only because there were so may alternatives close by): the decor is a bit tired and public areas do suffer from stale tobacco smoke, but our triple room with bathroom was spacious with just adequate closet/drawer space and spotlessly clean with excellent and unobtrusive daily housekeeping service. The patron was most cheery and welcoming and happy to advise on activities in Tours and around. All landmarks in Tours are within walking distance of the Hotel Colbert, but town buses have a fixed fare of Euro 1.20 for 60 minutes travel with as many changes as you like. For the chateaux, country buses from the gare routiere by the train station run to many of the chateaux towns and villages and have a fixed fare of Euro 1.50 regardless of length of journey. The Hotel Colbert was excellent value for money, in an outstanding location and we would certainly use it again.

Hotel could do with a spruce up. Since the hotel is on a pedestrian thoroughfare (cars only allowed at certain times), and Tours has a maze of one way streets, better directions to the hotel and nearby parking would be a great help. Once we found the hotel, the location is only yards from multiple restaurants and very close to the 'old centre'. The staff were very helpful and helped with parking when possible. Be aware there is no elevator in hotel. As the weather was not very co-operative, a hairdryer would have been useful.

I stayed two nights at the Hotel Colbert. It is quite a walk from the railway/bus station, but very well situated for everything else in Tours. It was a pleasant surprise to find a bath in the bathroom. My room was on the 3rd floor (2nd floor in English), so it was quiet, but even lower down it would have been quiet, as the hotel is in a pedestrianised zone. I didn't have any meals there, as continental breakfast at 7 euro seemed dear. The room was not big, but big enough.

Although it was a week during which anyone would wish for air conditioning, all the other positives made me glad to stay at Hotel Colbert, even without a/c!

lovely spacious room, I had a room looking out on to the garden where I could see birds flying about.I could have been in the countryside! Breakfast was more substantial than at other hotels. Extra touches included magazines on each floor and therewas even a library of English books.

If your room is anything like ours you will rarely, if ever, get better value from a 2-star hotel. We have stayed in 4-star places that have not provided a room with this much character. Sure, there was no air-con and the foyer wasn't anything flash, but that did not matter - the room was clean, colourful and, more importantly, huge!

I stayed in Tours for six nights. My experience at the Hotel Colbert was extremely positive. The staff were very extremely pleasant in every way, polite, friendly, helpful and flexible; the rooms were spacious and very clean; the location was good. The atmosphere at the hotel was warm and relaxed.

my room was roomy and with excellent view of the courtyard - quiet and clean, bathroom was fine (no showercurtain but room tub and taking a modified shower no problem - the only real complait was that the phone was a pulse not tone phone and thus calling cards didn't work - good location would stay there again

I found my room very clean and the hotel located on a very lively hip small pedestrian street. The staff was friendly and accommodating and I would return to the Colbert on my next visit to Tours

O hotel é uma graça e o atendimento excelente. Tanto o quarto quanto o banheiro são amplos e arejados. A localização é ótima. Voltando a Tours não duvidaria em me hospedar nele novamente.

We had a great stay at this hotel. The room was spacious with a nice view. Enjoy the hospitality and the recommendation to the restaurant that was our best meal of our trip in France

Great value for money in such a major tourist area; My room was quite large, by most European standards; Only bad points for me were no lift, and climbing up the stairs 3 floors each time was a drag. But a great hotel highly reccommend

Fantastico.

Breakfast was very nice and especially the location directly in the old town of tours was nice. It was still easy to find and public parking near the hotel was available. Overall a nice hotel. Would stay again.

Good basic accomodation. Well located close to the centre of town. Rooms larger than other similar rooms in France.

The Colbert was in an excellent location, which made it easy to get around the city. Rooms were basic, but clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Great value for money.
