There exists a large discrepancy as to the size of the rooms. The room we had for three people was nice and spacious. The other room, for two people, was much smaller. The hotel seems to be going through a phase of refurbishing. While both our rooms were nicely decorated, the bathrooms haven't been completely redone yet. The breakfast room was bright and cheery, but the reception and lobby still need to be redone.

I stayed at 425 room with my husband and my daughter who needed a baby coat. The baby coat was there when we arrived. Great experience. Althoug, it was on the top floor, it wasn´t a problem because the hotel has elevator. The room was vey nice, spacious and clean. I only stayed at Tours because I wanted to go to the castles. The location of the hotel was wonderful because was vey close to the train station (1 minute walk) and the agency that took us to the castle. I would recommend this hotel.

Habitación con vistas a un patio interior, viejo, no cerraba la puerta del baño. Baño pequeño y sin ventana. En general el hotel necesita una reforma general. Demasiado caro para el servicio

Hotel was right across the street from La Gare. It was two doors down from a market. Shopping was just behind the motel. The front desk called the tour company for a Chateaux tour the next day. Rooms were clean, quiet and air conditioned. Our rooms were not ready when we arrived so they held our luggage in the front area for us. Wonderful experience.

A good 3 star hotel located conveniently next to the train station and the tourist information office. About 10 to 15 min walk to museum and cathedral. The Rooms are clean, spacious with modern furnishing. Buffet Breakfast is available at 12 euros, which includes a waffles, crepes and a decent variety of yogurt, cheese, breads, etc.

It is very close to Tours station (less than 1 minute by walk), and convenient for tourists to access. For people who go there by car, the public underground parking in the front of the station is very cheap (only 7 euros for 1 night!). Then we were given the suite room which was too enough for 2 adults and 2 kids. What's more, breakfast for kids was free. The only one problem was the circumstance around there (several stupid or drank people made noise at night).

A grand hotel that was once clearly a lot grander .... however, it still does everything you need it to.... rooms are large and clean, beds comfortable and staff are very polite, friendly and helpful. The buffet breakfast was good quality and overall we very much enjoyed our stay. For reference I stayed with my wife and children aged 7 and 8. OUr room was pick enough for a king sized double and two singles with still loads of room around them for the kids to run around - much more spacious that the more modern Novotels etc.

The hotel itself was exactly as advertised; pros were friendliness and competence of staff, size of rooms, quality of service and convenience to train station. Cons were distance to old part of Tours - at least 15-20 minutes walk - and view of bus terminal in front of hotel. All in all a good budget hotel.

The hotel is right by the Tours train station, but make sure you are at the correct station, there is a smaller one close by and can be confusing and a 2 mile walk if you go to the wrong one. The hotel is older and needs an update, but not dirty or gross, just older. It is in a great location, very nice area at night as well. Overall, the price we paid was great for the room we recieved and compared to the price of other hotels in the area. Just be warned, the rooms are not large by any means.

We spent two nights in October 2007. The rooms are spacious, old worlde - and the hotel is right across the road from the main station in Tours. The only problem was that the walls are thin and with large rooms with high ceilings, the rooms can be a bit noisy.

Hotel was wonderfully located next to the rail station, yet no noise from it. Also, there was a bus station in front, so transportation was very close. Our room was large, actually more like a suite and very clean. My only negative comment on this hotel was the breakfast..we only ate items that were individually wrapped due to the large number of fruit flies on the food. We bought most of our food at a grocery store that was only a few doors away. We would stay here again.

This hotel may have been "grand" at some point, but I suspect that it was in the 1930's. Was it the crumbling tile floors in the foyer? The marble staircase that once had carpets? The scary cage like lift? The tiny room, furnished from the '50s by an existentialist? Perhaps. however I did enjoy the novelty factor. Those with cars, BEWARE. The hotel does not have its own parking, as advertised, but the receptionist is happy to point you to an adjacent public underground car park, by the train station. There is little security there and I was relieved to find my car in one piece the next morning! The hotel does pay for the space, though. All in all an experience and eating out in Tours was a pleasure.

This hotel suffers from the 3 D's: Dark, Dingy and Dreary. It is an old hotel in need of a much need face lift. Web site states rooms are sound proofed which they are not (could hear person in next room snoring), lobby picutre on web site is not realistic, and parking is in a public garage across the street. Due to location, across the street from train station, there were a lot of drunks and beggers in the area. Would not recommend.

The rooms decor was very tired and in need of updating, saying this they were clean and tidy. Our room as situated above the busy street corner but with the windows shut (our room had air conditioning) we could not hear anything from outside. The reception staff were very helpful and friendly. I thought that the breakfast was over priced for what you got, but there were plenty of other places to grab breakfast in the area. I would stay in this hotel again, ideal location for tourists.

The hotel was okay for the price I paid, however, the view was appalling (a brick wall), there were no tea and coffee facilities until I requested them and the room was very small. The service was very good by the staff and the location was good regarding the city location, rather than in front of a train station. The lift was broken on at least one occasion and we were on the 4th floor.

I was pleasantly surprised about the room. It was very spacious and had a very nice bathroom. Although the hotel is located right by the train station, the room was very quiet. The only drawback about the location were some homeless people lingering around near the hotel entrance. The room service was very good and the staff curteous. I would definitely stay there again. It is not easy to find a nice spacious family room for a family of 4.

Room was minuscule and poorly decorated. Bathroom phone-box size. The following day we move to different room, equally tiny but larger bathroom. When we paid the bill, receipt showed prize as quoted on website (80 Euros) included breakfast (at 8 Euros p.p.p.n), although website (Venere) claimed it was not included, so we didn't have it, but we still had to pay for it. The original price for room only would have been 62 Euros, not 80 Euros. The hotel on the whole was dissapointing and in need of thorough renovation. The only good thing about it was it's location

Le Grand Hotel has an excellent location in Tours--literally 100 feet from the train station. The breakfast was excellent and included eggs. Service was fantastic! The reception staff went above and beyond to help us with rental bicycles, city maps, and other questions. The best we experienced in France. Room was okay. Bed wasn't the best--we kept sinking into the middle. Bathroom was okay, very clean, but shower hose only with tub. The facility is old, but comfortable. Some furnishings should be replaced (mattress).
