Grand Hôtel de la Gare - Toulon

-bad bed -no mattress protector -synthetic & limp pillow -very noisy environment -industrial viennese pastries, bread, ... (and not good)- very expensive breakfast (versus quality) -but pleasant and welcoming night watchman

A OK railwaystation hotel practical for a short stay but not for a hliday.

We have nothing but praise for the very friendly and informative front-desk staff : The downside of our stay was the breakfast which was the most expensive - and the worst selection - we have ever encountered ( no cheese or meat selection - basically bread and jam were the only items on offer ! )

The staff was fantastic and the location couldn't be better- 50 feet from the train station and less than a 10 minute walk from the dock and ocean with great views and food. Also, the bus to the beach only takes 10 minutes!

A simple hotel without many frills, but clean and convenient for the rail & bus stations. The hotel is situated on a busy road and this leads to considerable noise, although the double glazing is efficient and can reduce it by about 99%. However I like to sleep with an open window and did find it intrusive. The staff are very helpful and at reception they readily spoke English. The place is clean and well serviced. The basic rooms are very small. If you can afford to upgrade I would strongly recommend it. Especially if you intend staying for more than one night. Toulon is an interesting enough place, but there is not a lot to do in the evening.

Easy access from railwaystation and busstation just opposite the hotel as well as carrental-offices also opposite the hotel. Easy access to old city and harbour on foot: about a short stroll from the hotel (10-15 min.)
