One of our best discoveries, thanks to Venere. It is a plain, elegant mansion whose rooms have been renovated with the most intelligent modern design imaginable. We didn't take breakfast, but had dinner twice and it was superb. Once we ate in the conservatory with the rain beating down in the illuminated garden: unforgettable. The manager was extremely helpful. We found Boulbon a perfect base for exploring Roman France (Orange, Nimes, Arles) and Avignon.

I do think that if a hotel is on reduced restricted service on a Sunday night then the rate should change too. Lounge space: we felt we were invading the privacy of the owners, and this wasn't available on Sunday night as the ground floor public rooms were all locked up when we returned from dinner. The meal we had Saturday was excellent. Sheets weren't changed over 3 days, and only one bar of soap (small) also not changed at all.

This is an absolutely charming hotel located in a quiet, traditional Provencal village, within easy striking distance of Avignon, Arles, Nimes, Pont-du-Gard, St. Remy de Provence, Les Baux, etc. The hotel’s hosts, Herve and Gilles, cannot do enough for one. The hotel is surrounded by its own very peaceful and tranquil grounds containing tall, old, shady plane trees and a carefully tended swimming pool. The building itself has recently been completely and very tastefully renovated to combine many modern features with those of old Provence. The bedrooms are superb and the bathrooms are luxurious. The food is exquisite. Both breakfasts and dinner, both of which are first class and great value, are fantastic and are served outdoors if the weather permits. There is great attention to detail in everything – the grounds, the hotel building, the rooms and every aspect of the food. Herve and Gilles are truly welcoming hosts and the overall experience of staying at the Hotel La Bastide de Boulbon is just fantastic. We are much looking forward to visiting again!
