Hotel L'Arcangelo - Taranto

L'Hotel Arcangelo is family run and during our stay (3 nights) we were made to feel part of the family. The owners, Gianni and Cinzia Favata were warm, welcoming and extremely helpful. Our room was large and comfortable and the wifi signal was strong. We had two balconies---one facing Piazza Fontana and the other across from L'Orologio, so we always knew what the correct time was. Breakfast was very good and you could even get eggs cooked to order, if you wished. The first day there was a slight noise problem, because work was being done in the next room. Cinzia was so concerned about the inconvenience that she gave us a bottle of wine made in a Convent that her husband had worked on (He's an architect and does restoration of old churches.) That evening, we sat on the balcony, drank the wine, and watched the scene below. There is a young receptionist named (I think) Katia, who was lovely and helpful. When we told her we were worried about how to get to Matera (our next stop, she printed out the bus schedule before we could blink. There are two very good restaurants nearby: Trattoria da Ugo, where the food and wine are good and very inexpensive and Trattoria del Pescatotore, which is extremely lively, also reasonably priced, with great fish and very friendly waiters. I recommend the town of Taranto as a destination in Puglia, and I very highly recommend Hotel L'Arcangelo as the place to stay.
