We loved this hotel! It is not expensive for the area, it is within a few minutes walk of many nice restaurants and 15 minutes from the Greek Theater. It is a steep climb, with steps, back from the main street, but that's Taormina, not the hotel. If you can, opt for the sea view. My favorite part of my stay was getting up early in the morning to sit on the terrace and look at the ocean, shore and grottos of Taormina. So beautiful! Yes, Taormina is touristy, but we were definitely tourists! The rooms themselves are spacious, with high ceilings, the air conditioning worked well, the bathroom is fine and the staff was very helpful. We extended our stay for an extra night, and it was no problem. It was a 20 euro taxi from the train station at night, but only 15 to go back when we called a taxi from the hotel during the day. The staff is very friendly and helpful, the pool is nice and the restaurant in the hotel is okay. Get to breakfast early if you want the good stuff - the meat and cheese goes quickly. We visited the beach of the sister hotel for the price of the shuttle - 6 euros/person roundtrip. I would recommend taking an excursion boat ride from the beach - loved the little boat tour into the grottos, for 15 euros/person. Worth much more!! I would return to this hotel, and I would recommend it to friends.

Hotel Mediterranée is outstanding. This was my second stay here. My brother and I stayed in a balcony room with two twin beds. There was plenty of space and a view of which one may never tire. It is very well situated a few stairways above Umberto. They also have the added bonus of allowing guests to visit the beach by shuttle at their sister hotel down on the water. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. They helped us choose our excursion to Mount Etna and set it all up for us. They opened the breakfast early for us to help us get to our tour in time, and they allowed us to store our bags there all day. This place and their staff are outastanding. I will definitely return.

Check in was friendly and our stay started well. The hotel is very old, but if you want to stay in a modern hotel it will be at least twice the price. There were four of us. We paid €200. Room config was 1 double, 2 singles; a bit odd for 2 couples. The double and 1 single was in the bedroom and the other single was in the corridor before the bedroom. Furnishings felt old and outdated. But everything worked fine. We did not use any of the hotels facilities or services so I cannot comment on that. The service when we checked out was rather rude and unhelpful. We wanted to leave our bags in the hotel because it would be too hot to leave in the car but they insisted that we keep it in the car. The boys were applying sunscreen without a shirt on in the lobby while I was checking out and that was seriously frowned upon. They told them to put their shirt back on and were quite rude to us after that but we didn't mean to offend them. Positives: Valet parking included, cold buffet breakfast included (very basic - ham, cheese, pastries, yogurt), service upon check-in, decent value for money, nice views on the terrace at breakfast, 5 min walk to the town centre Negatives: Service upon check out, very dated rooms, wardrobes had an unpleasant smell, bed configuration, no hair dryer The way our stay ended has left me on a sour note, so I would try another hotel if I return to Taormina next time.

I stayed in this hotel together with my wife for 8 days. I have been traveling for business and leisure in a wide geography in Europe and in USA. I can comfortably say that this is the hotel I would rate high regardless of the stars and the facilities. Great communication with hotel staff, very helpful advices and most importantly the flexibility (closely listening customer feedbacks). The location of the hotel, magnificent Etna and ocean scene, easy car parking (in Taormina) and the private beach (and parking)in their sister hotel on the shore are the other pluses. They have got good breakfast menu but I would advise hotel management to change it from time to time. For those who want to spend long time in Taormina, go to the beaches and travel arround by car, I would say stay in that hotel and enjoy.

If you like hotels with rude staff, no hot water after 8 p.m or before 9 a.m., no heat on a cold night and a toilet that doesn't flush, this is your place! It wasn't my wife's and my cup of tea, however. The last time I stayed in a hotel with no hot water and no heat was a $2.00 per night hellhole in Crete in 1975. The Mediterranee wasn't much better.

Our experience at Hotel Mediterranee was great. The room had a balcony with an amazing view of Taormina and the gulf below us and Mount Etna to the right. It was a spectacular sight. The room was clean and tidy. We found the bathroom to be on the smaller side with a tiny shower, but overall clean. Located a short walk up from the main corso (street), keep in mind that Taormina is built on a steep cliff so the walk up to the hotel is on an incline. The beach is located about a 15 minute drive away, luckily the hotel offers a shuttle service that will take you there for a fair fee. The staff were knowledgable and helpful at all times.
