The hotel was first class, and I received a very friendly welcome from the manager and excellent service from all staff. The hotel has been skilfully and attractively renovated, with a lovely rooftop sun and pool area and modern, comfortable, quiet rooms with good, working air conditioning. The restaurant is beautifully situated, by the garden, with good service and food, and reasonably priced. My only disappointment, having booked over the internet just the day before arrival, was to find that a couple who had purchased a package deal in Austria appeared to have paid considerably less. However I did not investigate this in detail (e.g. were the rooms comparable? how much did single occupancy influence the price?).

We enjoyed our stay at Il Piccolo Giardino. The staff were friendly and helpful, the rooms were clean and spacious and the location was excellent - just off of Corso Umberto. The hotel was only opened in May 2008 so is a bright modern building. Breakfast was served in the hotel garden which was very pleasant. The rooftop pool is quite small but offers great views across to the sea and there are loungers etc available. The bar was not open as we had arrived quite late in the season and no towels were provided - the hotel informed us that they were looking to provide these in the future. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel as it is perfectly located in Taormina and is a lot less expensive than some of the other available hotels. On arrival in Taormina we parked in the Lumbo multi storey car park and found that there is a free bus into the centre - from here the hotel is just 5 minutes walk.

Ottimo Hotel, salvo le dimensioni della stanza e un pò di rumore. Ottima posizione e servizi.

We (married couple and single friend in adjacent rooms)stayed for one week. The hotel is a two-star bed-and-breakfast establishment but no worse for that. No TV or tea/coffee-making in rooms, but with all the other essentials, and with a 24-hour reception. The welcome was genuinely enthusiastic and we were looked after by the English-speaking staff as if we were royalty. The manager Giovanni must be particularly mentioned in this respect, for example in his helpfulness in arranging an alternative plan when our excursion to Etna was cancelled at the last minute, in coming down with us to the main street to ensure that the taxi he had ordered for us on the last day had arrived. If you can manage lots of stairs, ask for rooms on the third floor overlooking the garden to get views over the Ionian Sea, brilliantly sunny in the morning, cool and shady in the later part of the day. But no lift, and thus only for the able-bodied if upstairs(this applies to Taormina in general). The hotel is to undergo refurbishment and enlargement this winter, to include a new dining room/restaurant that will take some of the garden (will there still be breakfast under the orange and lemon trees?). Remember this when looking at current and previous crits of the hotel. We thoroughly enjoyed out stay.

Very helpful and courteous host. Staff were wonderful. Ambience only spoiled by a cigar smoking guest at breakfast - suggest make the outdoors breakfast area non-smoling too. Otherwise a brilliant stay.

Great! Great! Great! This is a supper value. All hotel personnel were wonderful. Don Giovanni, the manager, is most cordial. The front desk staff is excellent, the young man at the front desk is fully knowledgable with computers and very helpful with local information. The rooms were clean and spotless every day. The Continental Breakfast in the beautiful garden was memorable. The breakfast staff was most attentive. The hotel staff had been notified of our late Sunday afternoon arrival. We were met at the door and escorted to our room. Two good restaurants are located on the stairway leading to the hotel entrance. This is one of the best buys in Italy. The excellent staff combines a classical sense of grace and style, with excellent service. Thanks for a Great Stay Lou Silva

The location and view from our balcony were superb. The room was small and climbing 3 flights of stairs was not the best. The breakfast wasa little sparse for our American tastes. The staff was outstanding. If you do not need a lot of "creature comforts" the Residence will not disappoint.

If you have a car, leave it in the multistorey car park below Taormina and get the courtesy minibus up to the town. Very pleasant garden to have breakfast in. Try to get a room overlooking the garden as rooms on the other side can be noisy.

The only comment I would make is that the breakfast was very basic in that it was rolls and coffee/tea. However, apart from this everything else was as expected and was great value.

Just returned from a week in Taormina to attend a wedding. Firstly, the hotel is nice and the rooms, although basic, are very clean and the A/C is good. Breakfast in the garden is a good start to the day and there are plenty of areas to sit and relax in. The location is, as I saw it, one of the best locations you can get, it is right on the main street but set back enough that you do not hear the nightlife in the evening. Not that I was in my room at any point in the evenings as I was too busy enjoying the nightlife. Need to thank the night watch for staying up and letting me in every morning at 5:30am!!!!!!! That brings me onto the staff, very nice people, very helpful none more so than the hotel manager who helped me and my friends out on a number of accasions and even gave me some plasters when I needed them. Would defo recommend this hotel, it's reasonable, perfect location, great service. Cheers.

very small room, crappy furniture, no balcony (although the website stated that there would be one in all rooms); location fairly good, but certainly not "a few minutes afoot to the beach" or 300 m from the railway station as promised in the website (more like 3 miles); all in all, very poor quality for the price, and disappointment to the misleading web info.

We'd have liked to have known about the parking situation. Had we not had our friend and mechanic with us, we'd have never, ever navigated the "street" to the door to unload luggage.

The hotel was in a great location if you want to be close to the main street, which we did. It is also very handy to the cable car going to the beach and too the bus station..both about 10 minutes walk. If you arrive at the bus station with big heavy bags a taxi is still the best idea though. The room was quite spacious and we had a nice view over the rooftops and out to sea. We stayed in a room on the Garden side which was a bit dearer but worth it as it quieter than the street side would be. The staff were lovely and helpful and spoke quite good English. The breakfast was fairly good too. It was good value compared to other places we have stayed in and Taormina is an expensive place for accomodation it seems.

The reason I have down-graded on several questions is because our room was very small (I think if should have been a single not a double), whereas other doubles were quite large. No drink-making facilities or room fridge.

This is a great hotel! The staff is serviceminded and really makes you feel special. Breakfast in the beautiful garden, what a nice way to start the day. The room was airy and so clean. The location is perfect, the shopping/sightseeing around the corner and the cableway to the beach is 2 minutes away. We are definitely staying at Residence every time we visit Taormina!

This hotel made our stay in Taormina a pleasant one. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. The garden is beautiful and makes a great setting for the excellent breakfasts. The rooftop terrace was a place to get away from the crowds in town and get some sun without going down to the beaches. Our only negative would be the cramped bathroom space. But overall a good experience and we'd stay there again.

1. The lack of a lift was a handicap, as I am disabled and had had a recent fall. We had an airy room with a balcony on the third floor and getting cases there was difficult up all the stairs. 2. While the owner was very welcoming some of his family/staff were painfully shy.

Overall, www.hrs.de and www.thomascook.com offers for the same price level much better hotels/apartments. If you book your accomodation with them, you can be sure that it is on a higher level.

The hotel was as expected, familiar ambience and a very friendly and professional management. It should be better to have previous information about the Parking availabilities and the shuttle free service between the Parking and Downtown (pedestrian zone). Parking cost about 11 € per night, good service.

We arrived in Taormina on a very hot day, and following the advice of the guidebooks, had taken the bus (because the bus terminal is closer to the town centre than the train - much closer!). Even so, the walk to the Hotel Residence is a long one if you have heavy luggage. After finding the Hotel we were greeted by steps to our room. Fortunately, we were given a first floor room because the staff had noticed that our bags were heavy. The room was clean and big enough for our needs. The airconditioning was welcome (and worked). The Hotel is very central to everthing in Taormina, and so, once we had managed to get our luggage into the room, we were able to get around and see everything with convenience. The staff at the Hotel were welcoming, spoke English fluently and gave us good advice about what to do and see. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay.
