The friendly lady who checked us in went out of her way to assist us with putting together a plan to take public transit. The public transit was very accessible from this location. Also, in the morning, it was easy access and a short distance to travel to return to the highway - especially beneficial if you are heading North out of Stuttgart.

It's like a B&B in a quiet residential district away from the city centre. The room is basic and generally clean. The night staff is friendly. We're a family of 4 with 2 young children and she offered a bigger room with 3 beds at no additional charge.

I was pleasantly surprised by Hotel City Partner Freihof Stuttgart. The staff were very helpful and warm. And the rooms, although basic, were extremely clean and pretty comfortable, with the most reasonably priced in- room refreshments I have ever encountered.

This hotel is situated in Stuttgart's suburbs. Don't despair, though,take tram 15 from the Hauptbahnhof (direction Stammheim) and get off either at the Heutingsheimstrasse or Korntaler Strasse stops (the hotel is equidistant between the two stops). The journey time is about 20 minutes. The trams come frequently (about every 10 minutes through the day) with the last service leaving the city centre about 00h30, so attending late evening events in the city will not present an insurmountable problem. Buy tickets before boarding from the machines to be found at all stops (if you are purchasing single tickets, you will need to get ones valid for two price zones - costing €2.30 at March 2007 prices). The hotel rooms were on the small side. From observing our fellow guests at breakfast (traditional German), we surmised that the hotel tends to cater more for commercial travellers than for tourists or business executives, but that's hardly a major impediment for a single night's stay. The staff were both helpful and friendly.

By car
From the airport, drive on the A8 motorway towards Heilbronn. At Leonberger Kreuz take the A81 in direction of Heilbronn until the Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen junction. Change to the B10 towards Stuttgart Zentrum. Leave the B10 at the Stammheim exit. At the crossing, turn left and then left again. After 500 meters you will see the hotel on your left hand side.
