Hotel Reviews Cathédrale

Because our stay in Strasbourg was only for 24 hours, we had chosen "the most centrally located hotel" in the historic centre in order to save time. The Hotel Cathédrale was very charming and nice, we really enjoyed our stay and appreciated both our room (right in front of the magnificent Cathedral, with view on the whole square) and the frendliness and competence of the hotel's staff. Also breakfast was great. Merci beaucoup!

Loved the location but the surroundings outside were extremely noisy. this hotel is not a good fit for people who do not like to rise early in the morning. Church bells ring at 6:45 am and continue all day. Street cleaning, merchant delivery, etc. begins at 7:00 am. Impossible to sleep in.

celebration of my boyfriends 50th anniversary, 1st time in strasbourg - the room we were given was on the 2nd floor, tiny, dark, looking into a tiny little courtyard with mildewy walls!!! back at reception I was told to expect nothing better when booking via internet (I always book rooms via venere, usually 2star, never before have I been disappointed!) I was forced to take a different room, spending 20 euro per night more than budgeted - as it turned out, it was the manager of the hotel himself who was so unhelpful- I do wonder whether this "internet"-room can be rated as 3* at all???

The position of the hotel is very strategic because just in front of the Cathedral. Our room was very small and not very confortable because the toiled bowl was in a "hole" one side of the room and the shower and sink to the opposite corner. Very little space in the room and the thermostat of air conditioning didn't work properly. We had just a small window facing walls of the same building. We didn't have breakfast nor dinner there so we can not judge. We suggest it just for the very central position.

Fourth stay in four years. This year the smallest room I have ever seen and a continental breakfast that would have cost Euro13 per person. I had the breakfast last year and it wasnt anything special! Avoid room 21 & 20 if you want to stretch out. Never going back!

This is an older hotel, the rooms are small, but clean and the location is superb. I requested a room with a view and we looked over the courtyard and the front of the cathedral. The staff were not very friendly and the breakfast was not worth the price. You are better off getting a lite breakfast at one of the many nearby cafes.

Overall, it was a great hotel in a great location, with pleasant rooms and mostly very lovely and competent staff members. Two complaints: there was an unholy smell coming from the bathroom at all times. Almost like mold mixed with old sewage. Sort of worrisome. The other complaint was the male front-desk attendant in the evening. He was condescening and priggish. Other than than, it was a great experience and well-worth the 90 Euros

The room was much smaller than expected. It was clean though. Our room headed to the back-yard, with a restaurant, which was extremely noisy. They started working at 5:00 in the morning. You don't hear it with windows closed, but that room was too tiny and warm to sleep in it without opening the windows. Air conditioning didn't work or wasn't set on yet (May). It is a nice very beautiful hotel but the room was not worth its price.

Excellent place to stay during the Christmas holidays. Christmas Markets are just a few steps from the front door of the hotel and the Cathedral is spectacular!!! Entire city of Strasbourg is beautifully decorated....truly a Christmas wonderland. Only negative was having to park our car in a nearby parking garage and then walk a couple of blocks with our suitcases and belongings (hotel is in a car restricted area). We would stay here again!!!

Excellent hotel in most aspects, except for the quietness, as our room had a view on the Place de la Cathédrale, so we were a bit disturbed by deliveries early in the morning and by celebrating people on the place late at night. Perhaps a room on the inner courtyard next time will be nicer.

Great hotel even though I think we had one of the worst rooms available... one window looked out on the interior stairway and the other looked out into a concrete tower of a courtyard. We were happy that the Place de Cathedrale was right outside the front door of the hotel. Strasbourg is a beautiful city and I would recommend the Cathedrale when you decide to visit.

The Hotel Cathedrale was a great place to stay. We were there for 5 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Based on Venere reviews, we upgraded to a superior room with a view and it was well worth the extra euros. The price, 115 euros a night, was a bargain compared to other European cities. The room was large, clean and the view of the cathedrale and Maison Kammerzell could not be topped! We chose not to have breakfast at the hotel due to the price of 13 euros per person. There is a great cafe to the right as you exit the hotel and we had good breakfasts there (great crepes!) for half the hotel price. We would stay there again!

The only "negative" points are the impossibility of parking momentarily in front of the hotel door for discharging/charging the luggage (kindly compensated by the courtesy of a hotel collaborator who helped us in carrying the luggage from the car park in Wuttenberg Square, 80m away), and the fact that the lift only serves from the 1st floor upwards, which obliges the guests or the personel to take the luggage manually from the Reception up to the 1st floor through a narrow spiral stairway. But one forgets this as soon as we enter the room, in our case with a wonderful view to the Cathedral Square and all its wonders and pulsating life of one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Good noise isollation of the windows. Nice and kind personel. We strongly reccomend this hotel.

In most respects the hotel was great: small but sufficient room at a good price, great location, knowledgable and helpful staff. My only complaint is that their buffet-style breakfast, which was only a slight upgrade over the sort of complimentary "continental" breakfast one expects to find in American hotels, cost $20, and this price was not clearly indicated anywhere, except on the final bill at checkout. So my girfriend and I wound up sharing a $40 pot of coffee, which rather badly skewed the price/value ratio of our one-night stay.

Amazing! In order to find our room we were guided through three passageways. One lead through a medieval staircase, the other across a balcony above the piazza. Truly lovely! The room was simple but clean. You must know that the cathedral bells start at 7am! Beautiful, but not well suited for the late-sleeper. It's location in the center of the old town made it easy to get everywhere on foot. Parking was available in public garages.

Excellent situated, no noise from cathedral when the room is not at streetside. Shower deleavers enough hotwater. But I can't recommend this hotel for disabled people, at least for rooms on second floor because you have to force a lot of staircases. We didn't eat breakfast there, because there are a lot of restaurants a few steps outside offering nice breakfasts. And finally I would like softer beds for people older than 60.

Our room in this hotel was absolutely horrible. There was literally a hole knocked in the wall in which a small safe sat. Our one window opened up into a dark ventilation shaft that smelled of sewage and gave no daylight. The other window opened up onto the interior stairway going up to other floors. If you opened this window to try to get air into the hot room, everyone one going up the stairs could see you laying there in bed. I have pictures of all of this on my digital camera if anyone would like to see. I will probably post them on Tripadvisor. I went to the desk to complain and the person there was rude and told me there was no manager and "Too bad!" You booked a discounted room". There was a very noisy function in a room right outside our room that lasted until late at night. The next morning I went down and asked again for the manager. I was told they would not be in that day. Again the person was extremely rude and said, "What do you expect when you book a discounted room through Venere?" When I said I expected a decent room, they offered me a different room for double the price. When I refused, they told to leave if I didn't like it. I checked out at that point. I used to love Strasbourg, but this experience has left a very bad feeling for the town. Do not stay in this hotel unless you want your visit to be spoiled. This experience has also left me afraid to book through Venere. I am afraid that I will end up staying in someplace horrid again. I would have stayed in another hotel if Venere had told me the coniditions would have been like this. I have travelled extensively in Europe and the rest of the world and I can say that without a doubt this was the worst place I have ever stayed in any country. This is the only hotel I booked through Venere and as I am planning another trip in December I find myself afraid to deal with Venere again. Too bad you, Venere, list this terrible hotel and destroy your own reputation.

Great spot in the centre of Strassbourgh. Excellent! To our horror the room was the size of a postage stamp with barely enough room to put in the double bed. There was no window to outside air, just to the staircase. Atmosphere was stiffling, with no proper possabillity to cool. Bathroom was good standard. TV didn't function first night. WIFI internet was so slow that is was not of any practical use. After waiting 5 minutes for the first webpage we gave up.

I would recommend that one obtain double confirmation that reduced-rate hotel parking will be reserved. The website did not adequately describe the variety of rooms available. we stayed the night of 12 Jan 08. excellent location, everything is within walking distance. we would stay there again, front desk service was excellent, concierge excellent in helping with parking and bags. a room with cathederal view it will cost an extra 20 euro - we didn't worry about it since its right out the front door anyway, heaps of great restaurants (I can recommend the pork knuckle nearby at Le Gruber) and bars all close by, We parked for short time underground at Place Gutenberg while we checked in then the concierge came with me and we drove to the hotel's secure carpark (only 5 mins walk). Pl Gutenberg is about 24 euro per day while hotel secure parking is 15 euro per day. concierge was excellent and helped with our luggage to and from their park. It didn't look like there were a lot of car spaces so it might be worthwhile calling ahead to see if you can get one reserved. tourist info is almost next door. beautiful at night with the christmas lights

Our room (No. 21) was very small, with old and poorly maintained equipment in bath room. This was partially compensated by the good position of the hotel: few meters from Cathedral, Palais Rohan and other museums; nice place to walk around, specially in Christmas period. For future visits in Strasbourg, if possible, I would prefer an alternate stay.

We stayed in a room overlooking the Cathedral and the Christmas market, a wonderful view. One could hear the music from the square, but it stopped before it became too irritating and just added to the festive atmosphere. The hotel is quite a walk from the station, but there are lots of interesting shops and markets to distract one on the way. This was our first visit to Strasbourg and we only stayed one night, would love to go back and stay longer, and also go to some of the nearby German towns.

Accessible by car only very early in the morning, we had high hopes for this hotel although our family room was not like the room in the pictures. In a two-floored room on the top floor, the attic had a draft (was cold) and the Cathedral bells tolled through the night. Surprisingly, no internet stations in the hotel, (only plug in points). Next to the hotel this situation was priceless, close to everything we had no need for the car as we explored the very interesting city for two days.

This is a great property that's extremely well located right next to the Cathedral. The reception staff were happy to help with any request (in English), including helping set up a wi-fi connection - which is free (a nice added bonus). Breakfast is OK value, though you could probably do better outside of the hotel. The only minor negatives were: our double room only had two single beds pushed together; and, the shower was a very tight squeeze. Other than that we would happily return to this property.

The Venere 'special' price means you will be the only guests that do NOT recieve continental breakfast or a room with a view. We were treated like the evil step children. The location is incredible/PERFECT so once we got past the staff acting annoyed that they had to assist us in anyway... we enjoyed the 'closet' style bedroom with the 'porthole' to the inside courtyard (instead of the view shown on the Venere website).

We stayed one night at the hotel. We enjoyed our stay and the location was excellent. The breakfast buffet was of a very good quality as was the room itself. Parking was a bit difficult but we managed to find a space in the parking lot beside the cathedral. There is no charge for parking overnight or during the lunch time period, so it was possible to "feed" the meter and keep the space. We would return to this hotel again. The had dinner at the Dauphin which is located in what appears to be the courtyard of the hotel. We had a fine meal with excellent service. We also had a pleasant lunch at a small cafe just off the parking lot but I cannot remember its name.

As I had indicated, my wife is partially disabled. Because of this the Hotel changed our room to one at the front. As it happened, this did not improve access for her, but , though I understood we were not going to be charged more than the rate for the room originally booked, this turned out not to be the case. At that stage, and just before our return to the UK, I was too tired to argue about it. However, I did feel aggrieved.

Parking is a big problem as it added extra cost to the stay
