My room was not as booked in the hotel but in an annexe (residence). The stairway, lift and entrance in the annexe gave a very poor impression, but the room was very large and very nice. But too expensive for quality, even in Strasbourg.

Excellent location, but the garage is expensive and not very practical. The rooms are minimal in size but this is downtown in the medieval part of Strasbourg. We recommend this hotel as a base to visit the city of Strasbourg. Emplacement exceptionnel mais le garage est cher (18€) et pas pratique. Les chambres sont toutes petites mais on est dans le centre ville médiéval de Strasbourg. A recommender comme base pour visiter la ville de Strasbourg.

Very comfortable positon, just in front of the Cathedrale in the hearth of the city but beware it's a pedestrian zone. We couldn't find room for the car in their parking but it was easy to park in a public garage few minutes walking distance. We got 2 very nice rooms below the roof (mansardeè) with view on the Cathedral square. Rooms actually are a little bit small. Some problems with huge luggage due to the lift covering only a part of the stairs. Breakfast not included and the 13€ fare seems quite expensive.

We love Strasburg and especially the Cathedral Square, so would always tend to want to stay at this hotel. That said, the hotel is inconveniently located in a zone pieton if you come by car (last time we came by train) although the municipal parking garage is pretty convenient. The room we had was very, very small. Do not stay here if (a) you are plus-sized or (b) you have a tendency to squabble with your significant other, as there is no neutral corner to hide in. You also have to haul your luggage up a narrow staircase before you can access the elevator. All that said, we do like the place and do not hesitate to recommend it ... with the above caveats.

The lack of close parking combined with the absence of an elevator from the lobby level are inconveniences that can be a problem for anyone with a mobility problem, but the location is awesome, especially if you are there on the occasion of a cathederal illumination. The shops and eating establishments throughout the pedestrian zone surrounding the hotel make it a destination in and of itself. We will have no hesitation about staying here again on any future visit to Strassburg. One word of caution. If you use a GPS to get to the hotel, it will route you through the no car zone so you will have to navigate around a bit to find the underground parking a couple of hundred meters away and then walk to the hotel. Cars are allowed in the zone only up until about 9:00 am. each day.

Because our stay in Strasbourg was only for 24 hours, we had chosen "the most centrally located hotel" in the historic centre in order to save time. The Hotel Cathédrale was very charming and nice, we really enjoyed our stay and appreciated both our room (right in front of the magnificent Cathedral, with view on the whole square) and the frendliness and competence of the hotel's staff. Also breakfast was great. Merci beaucoup!

celebration of my boyfriends 50th anniversary, 1st time in strasbourg - the room we were given was on the 2nd floor, tiny, dark, looking into a tiny little courtyard with mildewy walls!!! back at reception I was told to expect nothing better when booking via internet (I always book rooms via venere, usually 2star, never before have I been disappointed!) I was forced to take a different room, spending 20 euro per night more than budgeted - as it turned out, it was the manager of the hotel himself who was so unhelpful- I do wonder whether this "internet"-room can be rated as 3* at all???

The position of the hotel is very strategic because just in front of the Cathedral. Our room was very small and not very confortable because the toiled bowl was in a "hole" one side of the room and the shower and sink to the opposite corner. Very little space in the room and the thermostat of air conditioning didn't work properly. We had just a small window facing walls of the same building. We didn't have breakfast nor dinner there so we can not judge. We suggest it just for the very central position.

Overall, it was a great hotel in a great location, with pleasant rooms and mostly very lovely and competent staff members. Two complaints: there was an unholy smell coming from the bathroom at all times. Almost like mold mixed with old sewage. Sort of worrisome. The other complaint was the male front-desk attendant in the evening. He was condescening and priggish. Other than than, it was a great experience and well-worth the 90 Euros

The room was much smaller than expected. It was clean though. Our room headed to the back-yard, with a restaurant, which was extremely noisy. They started working at 5:00 in the morning. You don't hear it with windows closed, but that room was too tiny and warm to sleep in it without opening the windows. Air conditioning didn't work or wasn't set on yet (May). It is a nice very beautiful hotel but the room was not worth its price.

Excellent place to stay during the Christmas holidays. Christmas Markets are just a few steps from the front door of the hotel and the Cathedral is spectacular!!! Entire city of Strasbourg is beautifully decorated....truly a Christmas wonderland. Great hotel even though I think we had one of the worst rooms available... one window looked out on the interior stairway and the other looked out into a concrete tower of a courtyard. The Hotel Cathedrale was a great place to stay. We were there for 5 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Based on Venere reviews, we upgraded to a superior room with a view and it was well worth the extra euros. The price, 115 euros a night, was a bargain compared to other European cities. The room was large, clean and the view of the cathedrale and Maison Kammerzell could not be topped! We chose not to have breakfast at the hotel due to the price of 13 euros per person. There is a great cafe to the right as you exit the hotel and we had good breakfasts there (great crepes!) for half the hotel price. We would stay there again!

The only "negative" points are the impossibility of parking momentarily in front of the hotel door for discharging/charging the luggage (kindly compensated by the courtesy of a hotel collaborator who helped us in carrying the luggage from the car park in Wuttenberg Square, 80m away), and the fact that the lift only serves from the 1st floor upwards, which obliges the guests or the personel to take the luggage manually from the Reception up to the 1st floor through a narrow spiral stairway. But one forgets this as soon as we enter the room, in our case with a wonderful view to the Cathedral Square and all its wonders and pulsating life of one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Good noise isollation of the windows. Nice and kind personel. We strongly reccomend this hotel.

In most respects the hotel was great: small but sufficient room at a good price, great location, knowledgable and helpful staff. My only complaint is that their buffet-style breakfast, which was only a slight upgrade over the sort of complimentary "continental" breakfast one expects to find in American hotels, cost $20, and this price was not clearly indicated anywhere, except on the final bill at checkout. So my girfriend and I wound up sharing a $40 pot of coffee, which rather badly skewed the price/value ratio of our one-night stay.

Excellent situated, no noise from cathedral when the room is not at streetside. Shower deleavers enough hotwater. But I can't recommend this hotel for disabled people, at least for rooms on second floor because you have to force a lot of staircases. We didn't eat breakfast there, because there are a lot of restaurants a few steps outside offering nice breakfasts. And finally I would like softer beds for people older than 60.

Amazing! In order to find our room we were guided through three passageways. One lead through a medieval staircase, the other across a balcony above the piazza. Truly lovely! The room was simple but clean. You must know that the cathedral bells start at 7am! Beautiful, but not well suited for the late-sleeper. It's location in the center of the old town made it easy to get everywhere on foot. Parking was available in public garages.

Our room in this hotel was absolutely horrible. There was literally a hole knocked in the wall in which a small safe sat. Our one window opened up into a dark ventilation shaft that smelled of sewage and gave no daylight. The other window opened up onto the interior stairway going up to other floors. If you opened this window to try to get air into the hot room, everyone one going up the stairs could see you laying there in bed. I have pictures of all of this on my digital camera if anyone would like to see. I will probably post them on Tripadvisor. I went to the desk to complain and the person there was rude and told me there was no manager and "Too bad!" You booked a discounted room". There was a very noisy function in a room right outside our room that lasted until late at night. The next morning I went down and asked again for the manager. I was told they would not be in that day. Again the person was extremely rude and said, "What do you expect when you book a discounted room through Venere?" When I said I expected a decent room, they offered me a different room for double the price. When I refused, they told to leave if I didn't like it. I checked out at that point. I used to love Strasbourg, but this experience has left a very bad feeling for the town. Do not stay in this hotel unless you want your visit to be spoiled. This experience has also left me afraid to book through Venere. I am afraid that I will end up staying in someplace horrid again. I would have stayed in another hotel if Venere had told me the coniditions would have been like this. I have travelled extensively in Europe and the rest of the world and I can say that without a doubt this was the worst place I have ever stayed in any country. This is the only hotel I booked through Venere and as I am planning another trip in December I find myself afraid to deal with Venere again. Too bad you, Venere, list this terrible hotel and destroy your own reputation.

Pl Gutenberg is about 24 euro per day while hotel secure parking is 15 euro per day. concierge was excellent and helped with our luggage to and from their park. We stayed in a room overlooking the Cathedral and the Christmas market, a wonderful view. One could hear the music from the square, but it stopped before it became too irritating and just added to the festive atmosphere. The hotel is quite a walk from the station, but there are lots of interesting shops and markets to distract one on the way. This was our first visit to Strasbourg and we only stayed one night, would love to go back and stay longer, and also go to some of the nearby German towns.

The normal double bed room is the ecomomy room, very small, not very well situated, windows are heading towards the inside of the hotel or a small court were also the restaurants kitchen heads to. The best of the hotel is the location in the haert of the city.

The price for the breakfast (10 €)seems a little bit high, but there are lots of other places nearby

Accessible by car only very early in the morning, we had high hopes for this hotel although our family room was not like the room in the pictures. In a two-floored room on the top floor, the attic had a draft (was cold) and the Cathedral bells tolled through the night. Surprisingly, no internet stations in the hotel, (only plug in points). Next to the hotel this situation was priceless, close to everything we had no need for the car as we explored the very interesting city for two days.

Location of hotel was great, right in front of the cathedral and in the heart of where we wanted to be. We did feel that the price for breakfast offered was high and chose not to enjoy it there. There were many places to eat in the vicinity.

I've found infinite help from part of the presonel in: finding good restaurants in the nearby as well as in the city, leaving and delivering messages at tehreception desk, giving directions all around the town with,....many others.....with cordiality at any time.

This is a great property that's extremely well located right next to the Cathedral. The reception staff were happy to help with any request (in English), including helping set up a wi-fi connection - which is free (a nice added bonus). Breakfast is OK value, though you could probably do better outside of the hotel. The only minor negatives were: our double room only had two single beds pushed together; and, the shower was a very tight squeeze. Other than that we would happily return to this property.

Very nice small hotel( and small rooms )in the middle of Strasbourg ( a city to visit!). Car not necessary, payment parking very close to the hotel and not too much expensive. I spent 3 beautiful days with my family (me, my wife and 2 daughters ). I raccomend it. Mauro from Monza.

The Venere 'special' price means you will be the only guests that do NOT recieve continental breakfast or a room with a view. We were treated like the evil step children. The location is incredible/PERFECT so once we got past the staff acting annoyed that they had to assist us in anyway... we enjoyed the 'closet' style bedroom with the 'porthole' to the inside courtyard (instead of the view shown on the Venere website).

We stayed one night at the hotel. We enjoyed our stay and the location was excellent. The breakfast buffet was of a very good quality as was the room itself. Parking was a bit difficult but we managed to find a space in the parking lot beside the cathedral. There is no charge for parking overnight or during the lunch time period, so it was possible to "feed" the meter and keep the space. We would return to this hotel again. The had dinner at the Dauphin which is located in what appears to be the courtyard of the hotel. We had a fine meal with excellent service. We also had a pleasant lunch at a small cafe just off the parking lot but I cannot remember its name.

Great location, right next to the beautiful cathedral. Perfect base for exploring Strasbourg. Parking is not easy to find, but that's because of the way Strasbourg is structured (pedestrian friendly) rather than the hotel's fault.

Elegant hotel made up of several old residences, superbly located in pedestrian zone across the square from the cathedral, with room service, a fine restaurant on the premises, and other restaurants, shops and museums nearby. Staff helped carry our luggage from our car, which had to be parked some distance away. Would have been helpful to know that elevator ended one floor below our room, but staff helped bring our luggage up the narrow staircase.

As I had indicated, my wife is partially disabled. Because of this the Hotel changed our room to one at the front. As it happened, this did not improve access for her, but , though I understood we were not going to be charged more than the rate for the room originally booked, this turned out not to be the case. At that stage, and just before our return to the UK, I was too tired to argue about it. However, I did feel aggrieved.
