This is really an outstanding place to stay. The hotel is compact and efficient; the rooms clean and well appointed; the design and architecture is what one expects from a boutique hotel. Indeed these features are quintessentially reflects Swedish society - no sparing of cash on quality and services with a motivated workforce. Bar and lobby a bit 'cheesy' but some may want the feel the Abbaesque vibe (although you are more likely to get Bee Gees). Well serviced with metro, bars, restaurants and shops and only a walk from all city centre amenities. Apart from that, if a hotel leaves you with a feeling that this is how we should live then it is worth the price tag.

The hotel Rival has excellent staff and public areas but the room in which we stayed was small and the shower room was odd. The shower leaked, making the whole room wet. There was also a window from the shower room into the bedroom. Excellent breakfast included and great location.

An odd placement of the window in the bathroom, but after figuring out how to work the blinds, it was fine.

We had a 3 nights stay in May 2009, it was very pleasant. The cinema decorating is very original, the rooms are spacious and clean, bathroom was also OK as well as breakfast. I recommend this hotel which has a good quality/price ratio.

This hotel is the ideal place to stay and is within walking distance of the Old Town and the City.If you like bright airy rooms and a place that is not just standard hotel style this is where to go.The hotel is pricy for a three day trip to Stockholm. We found all facilities at the hotel were excellent. The staff was exceptionally helpful especially Sean. We were located at the back of the building so very quiet. The hotel is located on a very nice square and it has a quiet residential feel to it. The breakfast included in the weekend rate does not normally include Sunday nights but we were however given free breakfast for the third morning. The hotel is a well designed building with unusually high quality furniture and fittings. Lovely art deco foyer. For music lovers the sound system (even the bathroom) was great. The Cd player and selection of CDs was a lovely touch. The two outstanding comforts for me were the bedding and the breakfasts. Wonderful. Will go back when I get enough money together.

Lovely location on Mariatorget, lively area night and day, be aware the the movie theater holds many events (musical and others) and that people are out late at night, but inside the hotel you cant hear a thing. Its nice to return at night to an area that is alive;very nice people at the desk very professionnal. Loved our stay, wonderful rooms. Very comfortable.Would definitely come back and recommend.

Stanza troppo piccola, bagno altrettanto piccolo ma pulito. Le stanze sono molto piccole.... gli spazi a disposizione sono molto limitati e le stanze non sono molto insonorizzate !!!

Great area of the city and easy walking distance to anything you want to see (it helps that it's a small city). Staff was nice and it seemed like there was always something to do inside the hotel itself. I will definitely go back.

We really enjoyed our stay. The hotel isn't located in the city centre, but it's very near it, in a very peaceful area. The hotel is very nice: the decoration, furniture, the design of the room, etc, are very modern. The bar also offers a very cool atmosphere. The employees are very effient and kind. I really recomend it.

The only comment I would like to make is that our booking at Venere was not registered at Rival. Luckily they did have a room for us. The same type as ordered. But arriving late in the evening and not having everything in place was not that OK. The staff was very serviceminded and fixed it right away. So this comment is for Venere.com and not Rival. The staff who parks the cars for the hotel should be more careful with them though. Apart from this: A great hotel!

The hotel is pricey but not excessively so for Scandanavia and the overall quality is excellent. I was with my 12 year old son so we didnt use all the hotel's facilities but the service in the restaurant was very friendly and attentive. Location is also very good with an underground station very close.

One of the better hotels I have stayed in. The only less better thing were that the public coffeemachine on the 3:rd (?) floor was out of order and the coffee in the Termos was all out. When I asked one of the maids for more, she did'nt know how to get more. But, No big deal. We were wery pleased whit our staying anyway!! Recomend it to everybody!

Our reservation was 'lost' at our arrival. Fortunately, we had a printed copy of our reservation on venere.com. The reception did find out a new executive room very quickly. The service was very relaxed and unusual. Nice place to stay, nice location, nice week-end. I'll be there again.

The Rival hotel is lovely! We stayed for 2 nights over New Year and were suitably impressed. The location is perfect, staff friendly and helpful. The roos was clean and very nicely decorated. The bed was divine (I am very fussy about beds in hotels!) and the shower a bonus! Breakfast lovely. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.

High tech rooms, very nice and modern furnishings, very pleasant environment, good treny restaurant at the first floor ... but expensive, especially considered that the rooms are very small. Go there if you like modern, trendy stuff, but in Stockholm you can definitely find better trade-off between quality, price and location

We enjoyed our stay. We had some minor problems, but of course when you are paying more for the hotel, these stand out. Breakfast service was slow and the room wasn't always replenished with new bathroom items. Overall I enjoyed the stay. Not sure I would return though. Even though Sodermalm is a great place for eating/drinking and shopping, somewhere closer to Gamla Stan would be better for sight-seeing.

My wife and I stayed at the Rival for one night before attending a business meeting at the Strand Radisson. Part of the attraction was the Abba connection and the artistic modern decor. We also got a pretty good rate for a deluxe room. The room was very stylish, with a LCD TV and several CDs provided in the room. We had a balcony with a nice view out back over a courtyard and the neighboring buildings. The breakfast was very good and the service was exceptional. We would definitely stay there again and recommend it to others.

Absolutely loved Hotel Rival. Incredibly comfortable beds, romms that were modern and stylish without being at all clinical or cold. Felt a lot of thought had been put into the design so that things worked well/intelligently planned. Only gripe would be that there is no really good lighting for putting on make up! Staff were pleasant and helpful. Hated the fact that they played background music at breakfast - which I confess I hate at the best of times - but which was far too loud on the first day. They did eventually turn it down so that it really was in the background, but can't understand why breakfast can't be eaten in peace. There you go, one of my pet hates! However, these are very minor quibbles, on the whole it was a most enjoyable stay, liked the location - Sodermalm very chilled out and 2 stops on the underground to central Stockholm. Quite price but you get what you pay for. Would thoroughly recommend.

Nice trendy hotel with a cool bar. We unfortunatly experienced a loud party (until 2 am) which could be heard on the second floor, but the staff made it up by upgrading us for our last night on the upper floors.

There's lots of good things to say: First, the hotel staff are the friendliest lot you will find in this part of the world. They're helpful, accomodating, always smiling and also very professional. Every encounter with every staff member was pleasant at the very least. Second, the rooms are just great. They're bright, airy, uncluttered, well-designed and very comfortable. The beds were some of the best we've slept in, and guests are even offered a wide range of pillows and comforters, including Tempur pillows and special neck support pillows. Third, the hotel itself is funky and cool in an updated 60s sort of way. Each room has a movie photo as a theme and there is an entire assortment of modern chairs in the lobby. There's even a bed in the lobby, although I never saw anyone get the nerve to actually get into it! A very decent breakfast buffet with wonderful gravlax and scrambled eggs, free Internet in the lobby, and a great restaurant with good food for dinner (try the Scandinavian version of the French fish stew here) complete this Stockholm treasure. The price too is quite reasonable by Scandinavian standards. The only downside is the location, which is not central. However, the walk to town is pleasant, and you pass the river and the old town along the way. On the plus side, Rival is located right smack in one of the prettiest residential squares in this side of the city (Mariatorget) wth a lovely park with a fountain, swings for the children, and even a square for playing boules. This general area is also known as Stockholm's SoHo as it's a great favorite of writers and artists, and so there are a lot of little galleries and cafes. If you do decide on this hotel, splurge and get a deluxe (room 604) as this is one of the best ones outside of the suites.

The only reason I said photos were not Excellent is that the photos don't do justice to the goodness of the hotel. Very hip, very cool, very nice rooms, with good technology (TVs, wireless network, etc.) in great neighborhood, close to trains, and a very "in" bar. Hip hop DJ the nights I was there, but they do lots of stuff (I think), from ambient to house, etc.

Very trendy hotel in a very good location. Only 3 mins. walk to the nearest metro station. Very nice bistro downstairs and a good restaurant upstairs which serves good quality food. Also a trendy bar which gets quite busy at weekends. The barkeeper makes excellent cocktails. We can highly recommend this hotel.
