Thanks, Diocletian! The embankment constructed by later generations provides more to see (Riva), but the sea view would be sufficient, as such. Perfect location. Ever slept in a UNESCO World Heritage site before?

Very good staff and location, our room was clean, good size with a view to the "Riva" and very close to Diocletian Palace, although it its a little dificult to find the hotel (it's at a small street). Very kind people working there. Just a little expensive for Split. We recomend.

Hotel Kastel 1700, whilst originally a little difficult to find as you enter from behind via a side street, was a great place to stay to start our holiday in Croatia. The matress was without a doubt the BEST I have slept on for many years, although the pillows were a little small. A fair bit of noise comes in through the window as we were facing a busy square, but we were in the heart of the old town and couldn't really compain about that at is a lively vibrant city!

Superb location with view over waterfront. Unpreposessing entrance but fine once inside. Clean. Rather cramped stairwell and no lift but since the hotel has been been incorporated into a heritage building this is part of the charm. Since the hotel is in a pedestrian area a little more assistance in the form of for example baggage trolleys would have been useful.

we had a great studio appartment with views over sea/port. Great, central location (a bit noisier but we wanted to be central). We would go back without hesitation

Booked the 2 bedroom apartment on the top floor overlooking the marina, with great views. Unfortunately, no lift. Rooms were modern and fresh although the ceilings were sloped which is not good if you were a real tall person. It was peak tourist season at the time, so expected some noise from the busy marina area, but it didn't disturb us at night. Very centrally located to everything. A little difficult to find exact address as we thought signage could have been better, but a very enjoyable stay.

The location of this hotel was amazing. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to stay right in city centre. Everything is close, shops, restaurants, bars etc. I will definately stay here agian if I go to Split.

It was in a great location and a good price. It was not the fanciest or nicest room by any means.

We totally enjoyed our stay at the Kastell 1700. It was a small Bed and breakfast but location was brilliant although not the quietiest place to stop if you require a good nights sleep.

fantastic location near the harbour if you want to catch a ferry. very big rooms, we stayed there on 2 seperate occasions and one room even had a little kitchen. staff were nice and frienly, spoke very good english. biggest downfall was the amount of noise at nights, but i guess that comes with the location. great hotel though.

I stayed in a twin room which was very comfortable, overlooking the square. The location is absolutely fantastic.

The room location was great. The only complaint I have is that the air conditioner was really noisy and we were there during a heat wave, so we had to have the air on all night.

The hotel breakfast which was not included in the price of our rooms was adequate. We had to ask for milk for the cereal. There really wasn't much offered and we came away still wanting something else to eat.

The Kastel 1700 is a small hotel tucked away in a back-street in the old heart of Split, just where the Roman palace stops and the medieval quarter begins. I am in fact certain that the back wall of the hotel's breakfast room is one of the exterior walls of Diocletian's palace; that for me was enough to justify a high rating for the public areas of the hotel (which are actually very small, though smart in appearance). I was slightly worried that the hotel would be noisyt, owing to its central location, but in fact although there are a couple of bars nearby I was not kept awake by their noise. There are plenty of restaurants within only a few minutes walk. The central location means that it is also well served for communications: five minutes' walk or less from the spot where the airport coaches drop coaches you, and not much more from the railway station. If you want to relax in the sun by the pool, this is not the hotel for you, but if you want somewhere with a really central location as a base to explore the historic centre of Split and the amazing remains of Diocletian's palace, then this is an ideal place to stay.
How to reach Hotel Kastel 1700
By car
We are located only 300m away from the ferry port, bus and train station. If you are coming from that direction (facing the sea) you must go on your right towards the promenade - ''Riva'' (street with palm trees and bars). At the beginning of the promenade there is a public parking lot (our nearest parking) and just follow the promenade for 100m and take the first entrance in the town between two tobacco shops (''Tisak'' and ''Slobodna Dalmacija) in the small square Trg Brace Radic (''Vocni trg'') with statue of Marko Marulic. From that square you can see our windows (look up) on your right side. When you come to the statue turn right and around the corner, again right and we are at the end of a small street ''Mihovilova sirina 5'', next to Hugo Boss store.
