Parking is almost non existant! I asked for the parking garage and was told to park on the street across from the hotel. The street is on an incline and the cars are parked bumper to bumper which makes exiting without hitting another vehicle almost impossible. I asked about tours and was given a brochure from Global. I was told to pick what we wanted and they would call and also that it was "cash only". Instead I walked 1/2 block down the main street and found a travel agent who arranged all of our tours at the same cost as the brochure that was given to us from the hotel and I could also use my debit card for payment.

Very enjoyable stay. Breakfast Staff were very nice and enjoyable. Dinner at the hotel was great. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay would definitely recommend the hotel to anyone. The hotel was conveniently located near the main street, with plenty of shops and restaurants. We had a deluxe double with a huge balcony that overlooked the Sea. Room was clean and spacious. Hotel staff was polite, kind and helpful.

Our room was quite lovely. We needed a triple with bath, and we paid the extra 10 euro for a sea view. We had a great room with two large windows and a spectacular view. The breakfast was delicious and offered many options. We were very pleased with our stay at the Hotel Villa Maria.

This hotel exceeded every expectation. To do any better you would have to spend twice as much.(We did only the day before) The hotel restaurant directly across the street had reliably decent food, friendly service and a WORLD CLASS VIEW.

If very light sleeper, could hear people in next room using toilet, not just when flushing. So sound insulation leaves something to be desired, although this might be because we were in an end of corridor room. Our "Mountain view" was mainly a view of opposite flats, with impressive cliffs above when specifically looking up. Swim pool very good. There is a very pleasant roof sun lounge, with stunning view over Bay of Naples and Vesuvius but the "jacuzzi" advertised was open to the sky and had leaves, etc. floating, so we did not bother to ask if it was operational. Apart from these niggles, we were very satisfied with Hotel and helpful, friendly staff. Sorrento was wonderful and hotel very close to shops and resteraunts

The hotel is expensive compared to what it offers.Location is great, rooms are clean but very noisy. There is a big gap between different rooms (we were moved during the week and therefore were exposed to completely different levels of rooms). Breakfast is nice.On the whole i would recommend it if it was a little cheaper.

This is THE WORST hotel that we stayed during our 2-week-long vacation in Italy. Criticisms: a. We were sent to the building next to this hotel. The room was spacious, clean and quite; yet, got no telephone. If emergency occurred, how to reach the front desk people in the midnight?? Also, it's not stated on Venere that we might be placed at rooms outside of the main hotel!! b. Due to our complaint, they agreed to give us a "nicer" room at the hotel building. Gee! Three of us got a room with a queen-bed plus an old squeaky double-deck bed. We never expected to stay at a dormitory when we're on vacation!! c. The facility and equipment are very very old fashioned. Bathroom got some stale smell.. I doubt how they are rated as a three-star hotel. The owner is very nice and charming, so we didn't ask to change the room again. All three Asian girls just want to check out as soon as we open our eyes in the morning! If you look for a nice, neat hotel with a little bit style -- don't ever choose this one! I would consider coming back, if they do a 100% complete renovation.

The hotel is in a good location for the beach, eating out and shopping. The hotel was good and as expected. The staff were generally helpful or though on occassion a little abrupt! The room we had was very cramped and small for the price we paid. There was just enough room to walk around the beds and the bunk beds were very small which our children found awkward! The walls between rooms are very thin so when we had noisy neighbours it was very disruptive. Fortunately once we complained the staff were very quick to deal with the problem and all was quiet within 5 minutes. The pool was a great bonus and very little lounger hogging with towels which was refreshing. The public areas such as the lounge and dining area were very nice and large. The hotel was very clean and well maintained. Overall I thought this hotel was good, the only real disappointment was the was the size of the room.

A good hotel, well situated to explore Sorrento by foot. The pool allows you to relax and soak up the sun making this hotel ideal for people wanting a bit of everything from their visit to Sorrento. The rooms are fine with nice balconies. Breakfast offers variety but the juice and the eggs are a little odd. I would use it again.

Great hotel! Had a room on the second floor which actually overlooked the Bay of Naples as stated in the hotel's description. Only problem with the location of our room was that it was on the main street at the south end of Sorrento and very noisy until 2:00 or 3:00 am. Most everything was within an easy short walking distance - the only time we needed to use the public bus was when we walked to the Marina but needed to return by bus since it's about a 200 - 300 foot drop from the city. We would stay in this hotel again.

We were very embarrassed and disappointed by the standard and the location of the 3 rooms allocated to my group on our arrival. ·The 1st room was located on the 4th floor, but the lift only went to the 3rd floor, which meant that my sisters had to carry their cases up the stairs to the room. When they entered the room they found that there were only 2 portholes instead of a window and balcony. They were then offered an apartment located away from the Hotel. This was not satisfactory as they wanted to be close to their sisters. ·The 2nd room did not have a balcony and was adjoining the pool, therefore it was not possible to obtain any privacy whilst there were people using the pool. ·The room allocated to me had NOT been cleaned from when the previous guest had left. It also did not have a balcony. We were very disappointed because when we visited the Hotel in July, we were shown a number of rooms, which we were very happy with. But the rooms allocated this afternoon did not meet her expectations or to the information given in the hotel brochures. We were moved to rooms with balconies the following day. The hotel said that balconies had to be requested at the time of booking, but I do not believe that this is stated on the web site. The hotel restaurant – my party were made to feel uncomfortable at breakfast as the attitude of the staff was to force us to rush our meal. The one night when wewere forced to eat our evening meal in the hotel due to bad weather. The hotel restaurant reluctantly made up a table for six, it was a a set price menu which meant that some of the party were only able to choose a few items from the menu, but still had to pay the set price. Again we were made to feel uncomfortable and were rushed.

Excellent place to stay for those on short visit to Sorrento without transport.Good base to xplore the area..coach pickups for Pompeii Vesuvius etc from outside the door, the station only 15 min walk for other tripping. Hotel food good quality and value for money in the evening.Waiting staff entertaining and attentive.breakfast good but bigger variety of fruits on offer would have been welcome and a change from scrambled egg.Hotel very full the week we were there so probably economy measure and more than adequate to set one up for the day!Pool area spotless -more quality chairs would have been nice and the inevitable chairbooking the night before was annoying when often the owners didnt return till the afternoon! We were given a room on 5th floor with sea view from the balcony without request or paying for it.Lower floors would have struggled to see any sea.We were obviously delighted. The roof top(Floor 6) provided welcome early evening sun and views when it had long gone from the pool area.

The prices of the rooms are high as it is a very turistic location anyway the relationship price/quality is ok, accepting this as a must, this hotel provides a good service. Remarkable the fact that the hotel is really close to any place in Sorrento, centre, train station, car rentals, harbour, etc.

We stayed in this hotel mid July, and had a really enjoyable time. I've rated the photos from the website low, but only because I think they do not do the hotel justice. We booked this hotel because we wanted somewhere central and with a pool and this was the cheapest option, so we had to ignore the dingy photo! But the hotel is not at all as grotty as it looks and is on a quiet side street. We had one of the rooms on the top floor, so had a panoramic view of the sea, lovely sitting out on the balcony in the early evening with a beer, staring at the view. Cleanliness was never an issue with the rooms being cleaned daily and to a good standard, staff were helpful with general business (we didn't have any specific demands) and we were very appreciative of a pool in an area where there is no real beach. Only negative points for the hotel are the prices in the pool snack bar - absolutely outrageous with cans of soft drink and ice creams over three times what you can buy them for in the shop just outside, and there aren't sufficient sun loungers for the guests. Not an enormous issue though, just sneak in your own refreshments, and if you plan to stay by the pool that day make sure you get there semi-early. The location is fantastic, it is walkable from the train station should you not have an enormous bag, and close to lots of bars and restaurants. Overall I'd recommend a stay there - a decent hotel.

My only gripe was with the thinness of the walls. A number of times we thought somebody was entering our room when it was actually somebody else down the hall. In the morning you also felt like you were taking a shower or bath with your next door neighbor (i.e. the bathroom on the other side of the wall could be heard). Apart from this the Hotel was very good. It was very clean, spacious and comfortable all around. I would recommend staying there but be sure to get a room like we did facing the mountain....not on the street.

The Hotel Villa Maria is ideally suited for access to Sorrento town centre and excursions to Pompei, Herculaneum and Capri. You pay a little extra for the privilege of staying in such a central location but it is worth it top be able to step out of the hotel and be in one of Serrento’s excellent restaurants within 15 Minutes by foot. The accommodation was clean and spacious with excellent view over the Bay of Naples. Unfortunately while we were there in November, the pool was closed. The hotel kindly organised a Taxi from the airport to the hotel which was a great way of avoiding a great deal of stress. As a cheaper alternative there is a bus which does the same trip from the main square in the town at a fraction of the price.

On this, our second trip to Sorrento, we found the hotel to be well located on a quiet side street and within a very easy walk (we are senior citizens) of the central area (Piazza Tasso), shopping, sidewalk cafes, two theaters with excellent cultural shows. Although we found the pillows and bed on the hard side like most hotels in Italy, we would stay there on a future trip.

Villa Maria a a nice, clean hotel. We had a room with a view near the front of the road. Nice view but the street was a bit loud. The location is good, with easy access to the pedestrian area of town, the marina, and up to the cliff to the east of town. Frankly, I think Sorrento is a bit overrated. It's great for Circumvesuviana train access to Pompeii, and nice for a day to walk along the old streets, but it's a bit overrun with tourists (and this was in October!). I think it's worth heading east where it's a bit less accessible.

The breakfast coffee was quite drinkable. There was cereal, melon, egg, cheese and ham available, as well as bread and cakes. The view from the roof terrace was wonderful. The pool receives sun for a couple of hours around lunchtime, although it was still cold. This Hotel was everything we could have wanted at this price and was well placed. A few more smiles from the staff might have made us feel a little more welcome, but this improved after we'd been there a few days. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend the Hotel.

My wife and I and two friends stayed four nights here and had no problems at all.We paid a little extra for a room with a view of the sea which was worth it for us but our friends view was obstucted by a tree right outside the balcony.Having a view also meant we were on the front which was a little more noisey.A previous review of Villa Maria commented that the breakfasts had too much cake and not enough fruit,we agree, but otherwise OK.We caught a bus direct from the airport (6 euros) to Sorento but the taxi for the last 800m cost 10 euros,it's an easy walk with wheeled luggage and there are signposts to Villa Maria. The position of the hotel is just right for walking to shops and restaurants.

A previous reviewer said the breakfast coffee was undrinkable; I would echo that. I don't know what it was made of, but it was nothing like the very good coffee available at the pool bar! Hotel location very good for the town centre. The pool spends the majority of the day in shade, so the water is very cold. Car parking - described as in "a private road" is actually very difficult - it's a narrow cul-de-sac outside the hotel, where they try to reserve spaces for guests. You need a small car, you need to be a good driver, and you must fold your wing mirrors in after parking! Having said all that, we had a very pleasant stay.

I arrived to hotel Villa Maria on August 24, 2004 at 11 a.m. in the morning. The room was not ready at 12p.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m. Before my arrival I e-mailed to the hotel my request that I need a room with a larger bed. I also booked thru the internet a single room for a 130 Euro .When I arrived I have received a very small room for 79.Euro. The room was small and dirthy. The TV in the room did not worked. I brought to the attention of the hotel employee Loredana that this is not the room and the price I made the reservation.Loredana told me that nothing available, because of summer. I ask many times to speak to the manager or to the owner of the hotel, but I have been told that nobody available to speak to me. On a second day of my stay I was offered a larger and a better room , but the hotel charged me the first day of my stay in a small and dirthy room the price of 130 Euro. The internet price for this room was only 79 Euro. Loredana and other employes became very resistant to help. I had a very bed experience staying at the hotel Villa Maria in Sorrento. My advice to the travelers is STAY AWAY FROM THE HOTEL VILLA MARIA IN SORRENTO. FROM THE UNPROFESSIONAL EMPLOYES AND POOR SERVICE.

My mistake - I thought when I arrived in Sorrento by boat that the hotel would be on the beach, but it is actually a bus journey up the cliff. It also advertises a lift down to the beach, but this is seasonal, and was not working at Easter, when I visited. The pool also was not operational at Easter. Having said this, the day after I asked about the pool, it was operational, and I dont want anyone to think that this was anything but a delightful hotel. I would strongly recommend it - we had a greeat time in Sorrento

This was the best bargain on our trip. Fabulous price for half-board (full board for us. We are "2meals and a snack" people. Plain local cuisine, everything we could ask for at this price.

In March this hotel was fairly quiet. I was warmly greeted upon arrival, given a town map and details of transport (bus, train & boat) timetables, and had the hotel facilities explained. All areas appeared extremely clean throughout my stay. Breakfast reasonable for Italy, but I thought set dinner (3 courses with choice) rather expensive at E25 although the house wine was good and moderately priced at E9 a bottle. Staff were courteous at all times. Good access to town; the bus/train terminus is no more than 10 mins walk and the port about 15 mins making this hotel a good base for exploring the area.

OK for a short break stay. Don't eat your evening meal there!!(Poor food, rushed service and more expensive than local restaurants). Reception staff excellent.

We first stayed at this hotel in 1995.Some of the staff we met then are still employed by the hotel which says a lot.The Owners were very welcoming as were all of the Staff - helped with our luggage, ensured we had a car parking spot and helped us with onward reservations. We chose this hotel based on our previous experience and were not disappointed.

The Villa Maria is a relatively new and modern hotel conveniently located on Sorrento's main street, Corso Italia, near the western edge of town. Villa Maria is about one-half mile to the train station. The La Fenice restaurant right around the corner has good food and is reasonably priced. Upon arrival to Sorrento, a taxi charged us 15 Euros for the ride. On our way out of Sorrento, we walked the half-mile down Corso Italia to the train station. I had no complaints with Villa Maria's physical facility. The continental breakfast was very good. Prices charged were the same as quoted in Venere.com. My only complaint is that the hotel desk staff was uniformly indifferent. Compared to the four other hotels we used during our stay in Italy, the Villa Maria staff appeared uniformly indifferent and had little idea how to provide hospitality. Since the indifference at the desk was uniform, I assume the cause is top management and lack of training. One person in our party had his pocket picked on the Circumvesuviana train platform at the Central Railway station in Naples, while waiting for the Sorrento train. Upon our arrival to Villa Maria, our desk clerk responded with indifference and apparent lack of concern and empathy. It came off as rather cold-hearted. Another day, one of the desk staff was, however, nice enough to loan us three forks.

Breakfast was a big dissappointment, no really health options - obviously aimed at the package customers that the hotel caters for. We chose to go out one of the mornings and pay for our own (and this is not a cheap hotel) Also for this hotel to advertise parking is streching a point - it has some parking along a private road, but this is little better that leaving your car in the street.

Excellent middle of the road hotel with good small pool and sun roof. Pity the whirpool was not working on the roof. The times the pool snack bar were open were rather limited. Location good being close enough to the town without being too noisy. Breakfast was OK but the same every day.

The Hotel Villa Maria, is a superb chioce of hotel to use while in Sorrento, it is only a few minutes from the main square. The Hotel itself, is an excellent choice, while not cheap, you pay for what you get, and what you get, is a good sized room, with a high level of hygiene throughout the hotel, a decent breakfast, efficient and professional staff, and a throughly stress free stay. I would definetly stay again.

Villa Maria is a very pleasant hotel within easy level walking of the town centre. The staff are friendly and attentive, the rooms are clean and comfortable. Breakfast is adequate. Some traffic noise from about 7.00 am (our room was at the front of the hotel - there are rooms at the back without the view). Overall I would be happy to recommend this hotel to my friends.

This hotel was close to town, and also had a wonderful view! We loved the pool, and the rooms were very large! Once we got there, we had the option to pay 20 euros a night more for a sea view (you can't specify it in the reservation for the price you're quoted here), but it was worth it. In addition to the pool, there was a nice rooftop terrace, which had an even better view! Overall, a nice hotel and lovely stay!

Villa Maria was O.K. But, they sent hotel information offering 5% discount for cash or travelor's check payment. They denied the offer. Had to argue with front desk. Finally showed them a print out of their email. Then they would give the discount but, at a very low dollar to euro exchange rate. Not a very endearing experience.

The hotel is split into two buildings. The connection is via a long common area at ground level and the pleasant swimming pool/terrace above it. The cheaper rooms, where we were, are closer to the main road and noise from traffic. The staff were very friendly and helpful. No room safes.

I was given a town map, train, bus and ferry timetables without asking. The walls allowed too much noise through. Upon arrival I was told I would be staying in a different room for the first night of my stay. This was not a problem, as the staff tranferred my luggage. However,in the first room the towels were of superior quality, something that should not have been the case.

The hotel was lovely, with gracious public areas and a very good dining room. We were very pleased with our room. We arrived after dark, and were delighted to find in the morning that we had Mt. Vesuvius framed in our window! We would definitely stay at Villa Maria again.

A well located medium sized Hotel that offers the perfect balance of professional service and facilities that you would expect of a larger establishment with the familiarity and friendliness that you normally only get in a small family run concern.

The hotel was nice and in a good location. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The only problem was the noise from outside. We were in a corner room on the 4th floor and heard cars, buses, and motor scooters all night long outside our window. It made it very difficult to sleep. Possibly a different room would make a stay at the Villa Maria much more pleasant.
