Hotel Reviews Savoia

My wife and I stayed at Hotel Savoia for 8 days in October 2009. We had a wonderfrul stay. The staff were invariably friendly, pleasant and helpful. We would be happy to stay there again and would recommend Savoia to our friends.

The family running the hotel is very friendly and helpful with any needs. Delicious buffet breakfast with the addition of pancakes or cooked eggs is good start to a day in beautiful Sorrento. My second stay here--I will be back !!!!

The hotel room size was perfect with a nice clean bathroom and the price was acceptable for a middle-class single traveler for what you get. It's 3 blocks from the main street, perfect restaurant recommendations (Il Basilica's food is high quality), and the Golden Tours purchased through the hotel were top-notch. Breakfast included everything you could desire--fruit, fresh-baked cakes, meat, cheese, fresh soft bread, yogurt, etc. The family is very welcoming and has high standards, plus they help you with any requests you may have. I couldn't be happier with my hotel choice, and I'd love to return.

Remarkable value for money. Very convenient location in Sorento (a few 100m outside the busy centre square) and breakfasts that would be good in a business class hotel costing twice the price. Delightful lady owner. Our room was in a little annex in an appartment building immediately to the side of the hotel proper. This was perfectly convenient.

Excellent rooms and very friendly staff. Great location, close to city centre and railway station. If you have pull along bags or backpacks, you can easily walk to hotel from station. Great breakfast and they will cook fresh pancakes or eggs for you. The pancakes are a must.

Very helpful staff/owners: outstanding personal service. 5 night stay extended to 7 Easy walk into centre and to station. Sorrento is an excellent base for Pompeii, Vesuvius, Herculaneum and Amalfi Coast.

Very basic but clean and most welcoming. The family who owned this small hotel were friendly and helpful in every way. It is the perfect budget option for visiting Pompeii,Herculanium and Vesuvius, with the Circumvesuvia train a 5 minute walk away.Staff recommended we try the Sophia Lauren reastaurant in the old town of Sorrento and actually it was delightful-the waiter collected us and delivered us back to the hotel as part of the service! Thanks to Rosa, Pepe and the family for their warm welcome.

The rooms are somewhat plain but very clean and spacious. The breakfast is a very good continental type; eggs were served one morning as well. Location is a 5 min walk from the main square and another 5 to 10 to the port.

We were on vacations: my husband, my mother in law, my 2 years old son and me. We had a ver good time at Sorrento, it's a lovely place. I recomend to stay there at least 3 days (specially if you want to go to Positano and Capri) Savoia employees are really nice and try to make you feel at home. The breakfast is very good, specially pancakes and fresh fruit It's located near Notturno a wood works factory where you can find beautiful things at good prices (cash)

Very enjoyable stay. Staff very pleasant and friendly. The area has a nice collection of shops and the town is a very short walk away. Our hotel room was left open by mistake one day but did not happen other days. Our first night was overbooked so staff took us up to an adjacent hotel for one night but picked us up the next day. Despite hickups it was an enjoyable stay.

Considerably better than expected. Great location, felt safe and secure, very clean, great buffet breakfast, friendly staff. Hate to let anybody else know about this place so its not full next time I'm in Sorrento. We are a older couple that has travelled the world but don't like to act it.

The Savoia is a friendly family run Hotel about 5 minutes walk from the centre of Sorrento. The breakfast was a very nice continental breakfast with freshly made pancakes each morning. The room was nice and clean with a nice balcony view of the road into Sorrento. Ive been to Sorrento 3 times and I enjoyed this trip the most because of the combination of The Hotel Savoia and eating out at night in the fabulous restaurants in Sorrento.

The Hotel was lovely and clean and after a long drive up the coast it was nice to settle in straight away. We were given a map and shown where to eat. The room was great with a balcony. We had the doors open at night even though there was air conditioning and the motor bike noise was loud. The rooms were clean and the bathrooms were great. The breakfast was lovely, and we had home made crepes as well as the buffet breakfast. We had a car and had to pay 15 euro to park across the street. Great hotel for the price.

We returned to Sorrento for another weeks holiday after 8 years with the sole purpose of staying in accommodation close to main square to enable us to get early ferry to Isle of Capri and bus to Amalfi and beyond. Hotel not far from main square but would have preferred a few hundred yards closer. Average size room but adequate and nicely furnished, towels changed daily and bedding twice for one week. Balcony could have done with a good clean up. Breakfast excellent, good selection, well presented and one of the best we have had in Italy.

We are a family of 4 having 2 daughters (21 & 11). For our 6 night stay, my wife and I had a double room and the girls a twin room just along a 1st floor corridor. The hotel is ideally situated about 5 mins walk from Sorrento's main square. The spacious well equipped rooms were kept spotlessly clean by the maid who cleaned every day (no mean feat considering the state our girls leave their bedrooms in!) The staff and owners were very helpful with local information and sightseeing tips, and the breakfasts were superb offering Cereals, fresh fruits, cooked meats and cheeses, a choice of pancakes or eggs,(proper free range)and a delightful selection of Italian cakes. Parking can be a bit of a problem, but you can buy scratch card parking tickets for 1 Euro per hour during the day, and after around 6:00pm you're generally OK as the local plod are at home tucking into their tortellini! If the parking police do turn up they blow their whistles loudly for 5 mins to give you chance to move on. (a bit like our traffic Wardens - NOT!) I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone who needs to be based in Sorrento for a few days to explore The Amalfi Coast, Pompeii, Capri etc. I would definately stay again.

We enjoyed our stay so much at the Hotel Savoia we returned for a further 5 nights. The hotel is in an excellent location, the staff a very friendly (family owned and operated, rooms were very clean and comfortable and the best breakfast we have had on the whole 9 weeks of travel. This was our first stay at the Savoia, and it proved to be delightful. The staff of this family-owned hotel are pleasant, efficient, and helpful. The breakfast is outstanding, with hot pancakes, eggs, and coffee, and delicious sweets along with breads and fruits. The hotel is well located for touring in Sorrento and to nearby sites such as Capri and Pompeii. We would return here next time.

This hotel is well located, being just outside the main business area of Sorrento and an easy stroll to everything. Our room had a balcony and was very clean and comfortable. The breakfasts, particularly the pancakes were very good, and there is free wireless internet access in the foyer. Staff were friendly and most spoke good English. Note that there is a coin operated laundromat in Sorrento (often hard to find in Italy).

My three sisters and I stayed at Hotel Savoia in a quad room. It was fun being in one room except it was two twin beds and a bunk bed. We are in our 50's and 60's. It was very inconvenient to be on the top bunk. Overall though, it was a good value for the money. If you leave the window open at night though it is noisy. The breakfast was great. They even served eggs and pancakes along with homemade cake and various other breakfast items.

very convenient location just out of the town centre but within easy walking distance. Short-cut to station where frequent buses and trains can be taken to Naples, Pompei, Amalfi coast etc. Superb breakfast served by kind and attentive staff. Room was clean and spacious but could have been noisy if neighbours had been less considerate (thin walls !). Staff happy to help with travel arrangements / bookings. Antiquated lift very small but we were on the first floor so only used when we had cases to transport. Would unreservedly recommend Savoia for a happy and comfortable stay in Sorrento.

The family and staff was very welcoming and able to assist us with our travel plans. Nice view of the lemon orchard out the back window.

Lovely little hotel in a terrific location, just 2 blocks off the main square. The room is small, as expected, but was clean, comfortable, and had a little balcony overlooking the street. The owner is delightful and helpful. The breakfasts were very nice with fresh fruit, yogurt, meats, juices, bread or pastries and choice to have an egg and or pancake each morning in the small but cheerful breakfast room. The only negative was on the 3rd day of our 5 day stay, a heavy smoker rented the next room and the smell was really strong. We do not look for chain-style hotels with loads of amenities, since we're always on the go, so this was perfect for our family. We went during high season (Easter) so it wasn't cheap but it was a decent value. It was in a convenient location for walking to the town, had a great room darkening/sound deadening shade, was quite pleasant and I'd stay there again.
United Kingdom, Mar 2008
Lovely breakfasts as previously stated by a lot of people! The oldest lift ever which gave us a few frights but did the job. We were on the 4th floor which was good as it mean't it was quieter and a bit of a view over the orange groves. Very clean, very helpful staff. Very central. Enjoyed it and would stay again.

Small hotel with a welcoming, courteous, helpful and friendly staff (who speak good English), beautifuly clean rooms, hot water, central heating/air con which works well, electronically-operated wooden shutters, a balcony...and superb breakfast pancakes (and eggs, if you want, as well as rolls/preserves/cereal/juice/coffee etc). 5 minutes walk from the main square, 10 from the harbour. The road outside wasn't terribly busy (though I went out of season), and the balcony doors are double-glazed, which keeps traffic noise down. Other noise not noticeable. Convenient for bus/Circumvesuviana train (5 minutes walk), and for ferries to Capri etc (10 minutes). Two things to note: rooms are separate to Reception/breakfast room, in the next-door block. On the first floor, up a flight of stairs. There is a lift, but one has to pay to use it. I really enjoyed my stay, and thought this hotel very good value. Highly recommended.

We received a warm welcome from the owner Pepe and his family and were made to feel at home immediately. Our room was very spacious and quiet as it faced the little orchard out back. The breakfast was very good compared to other hotels we stayed at in Italy. Pepe cooked up excellent little pancakes that were lightly sugared and delicious. (He apologized for not having maple syrup but none was needed). He even offered to do eggs as well. There was a variety of fresh breads, cereals, juice and coffees. The location was perfect as it was just up the road (10 minute walk) from the main square in Sorrento. The train station was a bit of a walk if you are pulling a suitcase. The sidewalk is non-existant in some places and there are cobblestones along the side of the busy road. If you arrive by train and are walking to the hotel, turn left directly in front of the train station and take the road that winds around behind the station. This will lead you to a main road where you will turn right and walk about 10 minutes until you see the sign directing you to the hotels. It's the quickest and easiest route. Overall we would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area.

We both really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Savoia. This was my 3rd time staying in Sorrento and I would definitely stay at Hotel Savoia again. This hotel has a great location close to the port and close to shops and restaurants. Everything is within walking distance but away from all of the busy congestion associated with the very popular town of Sorrento. The breakfast was delicious and definitely rivals the breakfast of 4 star hotels that i have stayed at within italy. The pancakes lived up to their reputation. This is a family owned hotel with a personal touch that provides clean comfortable accomodations. The hotel does have air condition (this was not made clear on venere's website. The hotel recommends a parking garage that provides valet service. It is open from apporoximately 730am- 730pm. The price did increase to 15 euros /day (originally the price was quoted as 10 euros/day on venere's website). This is still cheaper than some surrounding parking garages we checked out. Overall, my husband and I really felt like we lucked out finding this hotel!

Starting with the bad the room walls were paper thin and we had a single Brithish guy get home pissed and keep us awake both nights for at least 30-45 minutes at 3.30am. Apart from that everything was excellent. The breakfast was the best I we in all of Italy and the service was friendly. The traffic noise was minimal and the walk to the centre of town was about 2 minutes. We would stay there again and hope we did not get the same neighbour.

We had a quad room for the 4 of us. The space was good, bathroom very nice and clean. The owner of the hotel was very cordial and the breakfasts were fabulous! The owner also helped us with a banking problem that arose while we were in Capri...made phone calls on my behalf and cleared up a banking error. He truly went above and beyond the call of duty. Location was very good...a few blocks from the middle of town...far enough away that noise was not an issue, but an easy walk to town, the port, and the train station. I would recommend these accomodations to anyone traveling to Sorrento...we had a wonderful stay.

We have been staying for several times in Rome, but the first time at Savoia. We have had a nice No. 101 with an own roofgarden with a large palmtree. The room and the cleaning was O.K. and the service at the desk too. But the unkindly service staff in the breakfast room was miserable.

This was a very pleasant place to stay - close to the centre of Sorrento and to the station. It was a very quiet location. The hotel is run by a family that lives in the building. The only slight drawback was the thin walls and bare floors which made the noise from the next room very noticeable. The room was clean and big enough. Given that there wasn't a guest lounge or a coffee bar, tea/coffee-making facilities would have been particularly welcome at this hotel. Breakfast was very good - plentiful and varied with cheerful service. The staff was friendly and helpful and the atmosphere very positive.

The personal attention given by this family run establishment was above and beyond what one expects. A couple of blocks away from the center of Sorrento and the train and bus station this residence was excellently located close to the activities but quiet at night. We stayed in a double room which was adequete for our purposes. Transportation from the Naples airport and upon leaving to Ravello was easily arranged with Pepe and Rosemaria the owners of the hotel.

The host at the Savoia was extremely welcoming, friendly and helpful, offering the kind of welcome you would expect in a five star hotel! There is a lot of care and attention to detail shown in this hotel, the breakfast buffet is just amazing! The hotel is just a few minutes walk from the main square and is very clean and comfortable. the only 'negative' is that the rooms are located in the building which is serviced by an antiquated lift! But this is only a small comment, as the friendliness and helpfulness of the service more than made up for this. I would definitely recommend this hotel

We loved our stay at Savoia. The room was clean and spacious. The balcony was a great place to relax after a long day of sightseeing. The staff was nothing but helpful and friendly. The breakfast was unique and one of the best we had in Italy. The hotel is a short walk to local shops and restaurants. You can walk down to the Marina (boat to Capri) and beach but it is a strenuous walk. We heard of a bus that would take you down if you didn’t want to walk but never ended up using it. Overall Savoia was a fabulous place to stay especially for the reasonable cost.

Savioa is a little nondescript little modest 2 star hotel that delivered what it states. for 100euro a night in may with breakfast in very touristy sorrento, i felt it was good value. Rooms : high ceilings, & a little balcony that overlooked lemon trees on the left & unfortunately other rooms on the right but still good. It was quite spacious for 1 couple and clean. No cable tv in room. You take a lift up to your room and its coin operated (5 cents euro- which is really nothing, and the mgr /boss gave me 5 coins for the stay so its really no skin off my back) Location : its just a 5 min walk to the main Piazza where all the main action is, restaurants too so you really cant go wrong. My only concern is if u toook the train & tried walking with all your luggage -it would be a good 10 min walk. if u like me, do not travel light, this might be a factor. I drove in from Naples so avoided it but as i was strolling from the hotel past the train station, it would have been a rather tedious trek as the streets are always crowded and traffic heavy. Breakfast was good - proprietor kept insisting on making us fresh pancakes. he did this to every table. They might seem abit gruff but I think thats just how napolis are. They are bit loud, gruff but truly kind and friendly people at the end of the day. hope this helps.

This is a very nice hotel run by a very nice family. Everything was clean, and the staff couldn't have been nicer and more helpful. It is hard to reach by car, and parking, on the street outside, is a nightmare; but the owner went out and directed us into a place and then helped us move the car the next morning so it wouldn't be towed . We walked to and from the terminal for the boat to Capri.

The best breakfast we had in our entire 4 week trip in Italy and France. Freshly homemade breads, yogourt and orange juice, served by friendly staff. Also hot chocolate and cappuccino, pastries. The hotel is very close to center of Sorrento, 10 minute walk to port. We arrived by bus from Naples airport (limited A/C and quite the experience on roads) and had a bit of confusion finding the street to get to the hotel because it changed names but it was right beside where we got dropped off in the Piazza. Walking distance from Piazza to hotel, but not for people with difficulty walking, especially with luggage. Hotel has elevator that reception pays for when you arrive. They will also pay if you wish for other times but it is not necessary. The stairs are wide and easy to climb. The room was clean and spacious. You have to leave your key in a receptable for the electricity to work. Highly recommend this place.

If you're not after anything too flash then this is excellent value for money. We had a spacious bright room with a double bed and bunks for the children. Good location and surprisingly large breakfast for Italy.

A clean, friendly hotel, only 2 mins walk from centre of Sorrento, and 5 mins from railway station. Would definitely stay again.

We stayed at the hotel in September 24th to the 26th 2005. The room was clean, quiet and spacious and the bathroom had plenty of towels. The locations was just a short walk from downtown and also to were you can get the boat to Capri. I would stay here on my next visit to Sorrento.

Great hotel! Everything was exactly as promised. Personnel were very nice and made every effort to accomodate us. Rooms were nice size, had recently been remodeled with all new bathroom fixtures, etc. Very clean. Good value!!

nice little hotel. very clean and the bathroom in my room was just newly renovated this year by the looks of it. breakfast was the best i had while i was in italy and even included pancakes. it isnt far at all from the town centre. while i was there there were quite a few noisy guests who liked to slam doors late at night and early morning. if you run out of 5 cent pieces for the lift just go ask at reception as the staff were very nice. overall i'd stay here again.

We were thinking about staying longer in Sorrento, if we liked the hotel. What a disappointment! The couple that owns this place gave us the impression that they were doing this as a part time job and that they were bothered by their clients. She would answer my questions without turning away from the computer or putting her personal phone call on hold while she attended to my requests. We had to ask for all the basic things: more towels, soap, access to the safety deposit box in the room, access to long distance in the room, etc. We had to pay 0.50 cents every time we used the elevator. Their web site is misleading: there was no free parking, only a parking across the street that charged 10 Euros per day. All rooms are non-smoking. You could not sit at the TV lounge because their children, and grandparents were all over the lounge watching TV and on the sofa. There was no balcony as it mentioned on the web page. Way over priced!

Here's a wonderful hotel in a residential neighborhood of Sorrento. The husband and wife team who own the hotel and extremely gracious and helpful. The rooms themselves are in a building separate from the reception area. The bathroom was tiled though the shower was typically small. Our room had a great private balcony that was very private and quiet. Breakfast was fantastic, with probably the best yoghurt that I've ever had in Europe. If there could be a downside, it would be the walk from town. It's not that far, but part of the time you have to walk in the street- something that could make some people a little uncomfortable. We'd definately stay here again.

The hotel is a charming little hotel within walking distance of the piazza in the center of town. The owner was charming and extremely delightful when we arrived late evening. There are plenty of shops, pizzarias and tratorias nearby and on the way to the piazza. The rail station is conveniently located, as is an internet point. Our two rooms with adjoining terraces located in the front of the hotel made it a quite enjoyable stay. Especially the terry cloth towels which we hadn't seen in the two hotels we had stayed at previously. The others were a cheese cloth variety. The lift required a coin which the desk will provide. This would work better if it only required the plastic key card. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

This is a small, family-run outfit, and the owners and staff were very friendly. Ultimately, however, I felt it was not worth the price(€100 per night in early July): the room was small, and with bare floors (no carpets), it felt dirty. Sound-proofing was poor, and so sound in corridors filtered through into the rooms.

The directions given by venere were terrible. The hotel was very clean, roomy and the staff was very nice. We asked a couple of questions and the gave us incorrect information, though we were able to obain the correct info on our own. When they told us breakfast was going to be at 7:30, the doors do not open until 7:30, though the food and service were excellent once you got in. The location of the hotel was on a nice side street where there was not so much traffic and noise. I would highly recommend this hotel and I would stay here again when visiting Sorrento. It is an absolutely beautiful town.

We stayed here for one night only. It is a bit of a walk up from where the boat comes in but very handy for the train station. The staff were really friendly and helpful and the breakfast was better than the ones we had had in Rome. Our room was in the building next door to the main reception but had been newly decorated and had a balcony overlooking the hills which was lovely.

We called to see if we could come a day early and management said yes. When we got there because of a strike we didn't have a room-the management had arranged for a 1 night stay at Villagio Verde and drove us there(2 blocks away and lovely)The following day we were able to check into Savoia and they went up and brought our luggage down for us. A delightful couple and wonderful breakfast. A thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Though the rooms themselves were acceptable, I thought the employees rude and insufferable. They made the entire stay unpleasant. Not only were they rude, but the staff was incompetent as well. One day the cleaning lady did not close our door after she had finished with the room. Our room stayed open to anyone who happened to walk by all day! In addition to the security breach, the front desk did not seem particularly concerned about our concerns. Adding insult to injury. In general, if you can go somewhere else, I would.

We were unfortunate to be kept awake all night (on our last night) by a very noisy group next door to us, who ignored any request to keep the noise down. This was not the fault of the hotel, but clouded our stay.

We had a lovely room, surprisingly spacious and a nice view out onto a lemon grove ( not all rooms would have this view. The location was excellent. A few minutes walk to the main square and about ten minutes walk to the train/bus station. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Only negatives were that it was quite noisy in early in the mornings and the lift has a bit too much 'character' (I got stuck in it twice) Overall I would highly recommend this hotel if you wish to stay close to the center of Sorrento. Excellent value for money

Unfortunately the room allocated on the 4th floor was not refurbished and the bathroom was poor. When we flushed the toilet we were showered with water from the high level cistern. We mentioned this to the owner but nothing was done but we were told the 4th floor was to be refurbished in November. We would go back to the hotel again once the 4th floor was refurbished.

breakfast was very poor- bread/butter & tea.no cereal,no fruit. served on a tray at table- cannot help yourself. Shower was blocked- causing water to flood out to bedrm floor. central location.
