The Royal Hotel is in a walking distant to the train station which is very easy to find. The hotel has a stuning garden and lovely swimming pool hanging on the cliff, overlooking the bay of Naple and the Valcano near Pompeii. However, our room with 1 King Size and a single for 3 person is a bit cramp and for the rate they charge they should have given the wi-fi for free. One more thing that I like about the hotel is their breakfast which I applaud and will always remember is the best cooked tomato and potatoes I ever tasted in my life.

Very beautiful hotel just a few steps away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Sorrento. Staff was extremely pleasant and helpful. Lovely pool area and many other beautiful common areas, indoor and out, available for relaxing, reading, etc.

Me and my husband stayed here on our honeymoon. It was our first time in Sorrento and should we ever come back, we will definitely be staying here again. The staff was great, the room was clean and beautiful and had a magnificent view, and the food was delicious!

We were travelling for one month in Italy and Sorrento was to be our time for relaxing after touring around the cities! Sorrento and the Royal were just right for this. We had a room with a terrace and a beautiful view facing the Bay of Naples. The room has in-laid wood furniture and nice floor tiles, which we believe are locally made. The only let down was the bathroom which was very small and had a plastic shower curtain that stuck to you! The taps and fittings looked quite old. The common areas of the hotel are really nice and well kept, and the location couldn't be better. The breakfast room is very impressive and the breakfast itself was the best we had of all the hotels we stayed in. We were really impressed with Sorrento, it's clean, has stunning scenery and is close to Pompeii, Capri, Positano and Amalfi. Don't expect white sandy beaches though! (You'll have to come to Australia for that)

This hotel, which we selected for a last minute detour to Sorrento, proved to be a wonderful surprise. The location was perfect with easy access to the town square and the train station (for a trip to Pompeii). The staff was very helpful and their recommendations were appreciated. I will definitely return to Sorrento and would recommend the Royal to anyone of my friends.

The view from our top floor Vesuvius facing room made up for the fact the bathroom was too small and in need of a refit, as well as the noise which came from the lifts right next door! The room itself was quite acceptable. As we had ear plugs we managed, but, even the ear plugs did not block the noise completely. The staff were excellent and the position of the hotel, close to Piazza Tasso and the railway station, made the holiday perfect for us. If you want to get 100% satisfaction on your holiday, then I guess you would have to pay a great deal more in Sorrento, so, all in all, this hotel is well worth a visit

The hotel Royal was closed and our reserevation was transfered the Grand Hotel Ambasciatori, so all comments refer to this Hotel and not The Royal. Although the Hotel was further from the centre of Sorrento than The Royal it was in an exellelnt position right on the cliff tops overlooking the Bay of Naples and positioned in a parkland setting. Sorrento is a wonderful centre and was a very inspiring place to be over Easter with some procession's which had to be witnissed to be beleived!

Overall the hotel was excellent and the view from our room asolutely breathtaking! It was a close walk to town and to the boats going to Naples, Capri, etc. Only criticism is that the hotel restaurant was not open for evening dinner (it was off season) and breakfast was sub-standard.

Loved staying at the Royal! It was even better than we expected. Lovely grounds, very friendly staff, great food, wonderful breakfasts, lovely rooms and views, and great location! Would readily stay here again and highly recommend it to others. Very close to everything in Sorrento, walking distance to the harbor for boats to the other coastal towns and to Capri. Spectacular hotel and great service!

I would have preferred a room away from the service elevator. In the mornings around 7:00 a.m. the noise from the elevator was unbearable.

We have stayed at other Manniello Hotels and this was our first visit to the Royal. Overall, we were pleased, but we found the menu items for dinner not to our liking. We planned on dining for the gala dinner, but the menu items were not for us. I believe the menu items should be expanded to provide a choice. We dined at their sister restaurant Parruchiano, on most evenings and were pleased to do so. We dined at Parruchiano on each one of our visits to Sorrento. As for the hotel, we were pleased with the room, surroundings and cleanliness. Two of the front desk staff and our chambermaid were pleasant and helpful...Salvatore, Amelia and Anna. One problem: room is noisy.

My family and I had a wonderful time staying at the Hotel Royal. It was a great location, within walking distance of town. The breakfast was very good. The only down side was the street noise from the traffic. Next time I'd ask for a room looking out on the water.

The location and the hotel are gorgeous and you expect to pay for that. The food is not very good. Because it was off season they had a limited menu. The three offerings we had were not good. I would not eat dinner at the hotel.

An good hotel, well placed for the railway and centre of Sorrento. The staff, especially reception, were notably friendly and knowledgeable. I would have liked a more sophisticated menu and ambience in the restaurant, but it may be that service was limited at the beginning of the season. Otherwise, unreservedly recommended.

I stayed at the Royal for 4 nights in March with my partner and two other heterosexual couples and a girl friend (7 in total). We had a wonderful time. The Royal Hotel is well situated with terrific views across the bay of Naples - about 5 mins walk to Piazza Tasso, and the same to train and bus stations. The hotel staff were fantastic and could not have been more helpful - a real class act. The quality of the rooms was really good - and we stayed in the cheapest. The only criticism is that these rooms are very noisy in the early hours - cleaners and kitchen staff. This was mentioned by another visitor who was exactly right. We did not eat in the hotel restaurant - it looked very nice but pricey compared to restaurants in the town, which was the view of other guests we met. Breakfast was OK but nothing special. I'd definitely stay again but seriously consider an upgrade in rooms.

There was a lot of noise in a morning as chairs got dragged across tiled floors. We never did fathom how the air-conditioning system worked - although not too important in October. Probably a good idea to contact the hotel to organise a chauffeur if you want a car from the airport - pay no more than 100 euros tops! The pool is not heated!

Lovely hotel in a great location. There was not alot of room to sit out on the day that it was nice and sunny as all chairs on terrace were taken and there was a charge for sun beds of 5 euro which i thought was not good for a 5* hotel. Rooms were lovely but could have had tea/coffee making facilities and bath robes to make it a little more special. Overall it was a lovely hotel.

We stayed at the hotel for 1 week in September, 2006. The hotel itself is very beautiful with sapcious rooms, godges views and friendly atmosphere. The location is perfect - 2 minutes from railway station, 2 minutes from the centre, right on the sea shore. Not taking into account a very unpleasant incident (security issue), the hotel corresponds all expectations.

Generally our stay was pretty good. Our room was basic but comfortable enough. However, the floor was tiled so anything dropped on it broke - some rugs wouldn't go amiss. The room had nearly everything we needed but when I asked to borrow an iron, I was refused an informed that the hotel had a laundry service that I could use - this wasn't convenient and would have been expensive. We were on the top floor so the only problem with noise was from our fellow guests at 2am! Facilities in the hotel were pretty good and as stated on the website. The inclusive breakfast is brilliant. You get a great selection and can eat as much as you want. The drinks and terrace restaurant are not greatly overpriced compared to the rest of Sorrento. However, the website does not tell you that you have to pay €5 per day for a sun-lounger by the pool or the sea. Nor does it tell you to make sure you get out to the pool before breakfast to lay out your towel! I think you Brits are every bit as good as the Germans for doing it. The hotel location is great. It does overlook the marina and has a great view of the Bay of Naples and the volcano. Its literally a 5 minute walk to Piazza Tazzo. Overall, a decent hotel. But having previously stayed in a hotel in Rome which had nicer rooms, friendlier staff and was much cheaper, I can't honestly say its value for money.

The staff were excellent, the hotel room was also excellent. Breakfast was fine but for a 4* hotel the evening meal was indifferent (and at 30€ each expensive) on both the occasions we tried it so we ate out every night. The petty rules spoiled the hotel's general ambience which was excellent. The charge of 5€ per day for the pool loungers was outrageous and more than 10% didn't work properly. The ban on bringing your own drink into the hotel and the ban on using the mini-bar fridge for anything only served to annoy not to deter. However the staff rescued everything as they were interested, competent, efficient and welcoming.
