Hotel Rivage Sorrento - Sorrento

This hotel is in a good position just outside the main street. On arriving the female receptionist was quite aloof and did not seem to give off a friendly welcome. On asking about the free internet access I was told that their supplier had changed and there was now a charge for that service. The room itself was quite good, but on entering it on several times there was a smell of drains, which I think was coming up through the overflow in the sink. I had to ask for the temperature of the air conditioning to be turned down as it was quite hot at night and the controls in the room did not do anything. We returned to the room several times during the early evening and found the air conditioning was turned off, after having several "conversations" with the male receptionist it turned out that the maid kept leaving the window open which has an electronic sensor and it disabled the aircon so I had to put a message on the window for it to be kept shut. They also turned the whole hotels aircon off at 11.30pm because according to them the weather was quite cool enough. What they forget is that many visiters are from a colder climate and it is hot for them and still need the aircom on at night. When we where there, there was a large party of French holiday company tourists that took over the breakfast room early in the morning, so we started having breakfast a little later and then the waiters where not so rushed and we got better service.

As usual, we appreciated the great staff competence,the comfortable and clean room, an excellent breakfast, and the smart location, just a step off the traffic. I recommend this hotel to everybody, young or not.

Great location in the heart of Sorrento. No public computer and no swimmingpool is the only negative aspect. Nice staff and a plesant stay :)

It is a good hotel. There are kind persons, good breakfast, cheap bar and so on. But the rooms faced to the hillside is not so quiet as cars come and go along it. The foods in the bar near the hotel, called Bar Rivage is cheap and good. Generally, Sorrento is a good place for visit and Hotel Rivage is good.

Beware it takes you about 15 minutes walk from Sorrento's Circumvesuviana railway station to this hotel (sorry, not a 5-minutes walk) and may need 10 minutes more to walk if you bring along big luggage with you at the day time since the street is so crowd. About the breakfast, they provided breads, oats, cheese and ham if you eat before 7:30am & if you are lucky not eating with a big travelling group. Otherwise, you will only be offered bread & oats then. We stayed 3 nights and only had 1 day could be offered with ham & cheese for breakfast. About the room, it offers good view and very quiet environment except the horrible sensor in our bath room. This is an environmental friendly product to save energy and they set the timer to switch off the light in 5 minutes if no motion is detected. We welcome this product but don't understand why it can't detect someone is taking a shower in a shower area(since there is a shower door?). Thus, we need to open that shower door for every few minutes in order to keep the light switch on. So annoying!

Great spot for the money...

Very large room for three people. Our only complaint was that the breakfast was rather meager compared to all of the other breakfasts we had throughout Italy.
