My group of four was very pleased with our experience at ail Nido. We had chosen budget rooms without view and they were much nicer than we expected. Both rooms were nicely decorated and very clean. The bathrooms were spacious and modern and also very clean. We enjoyed the location on the hillside with views of lemon groves and the Bay of Naples. We used the hotel bus and also city buses to travel back and forth to town and to the Amalfi Coast. This required a little more planning than staying in the heart of town but the special location of Il Nido made this a good trade off. Our group loved having breakfast in the dining room with its spectacular views, attentive staff and generous food offerings. The orange juice machine which squeezed whole oranges was more fun than a pinball machine. Even more impressive than the views and the food were our interactions with the staff. Everyone we met was pleasant and eager to be of help. When we had trouble with our reservation with a taxi service, a staff member called them repeatedly on a Sunday until they finally got an answer and resolved the problem. The owner was charming and proactive in helping us manage our visit. At the end of our stay one of our group said "These people really know how to run a hotel." and the rest of us immediately agreed. We hope to be able to go back to Il Nido soon.

They have a shuttle provided, but you have to call ahead if you are arriving from the train, plane, or other method. The shuttle does not always come to the designated stop (even though it says it comes on a daily basis) if they are not expecting anyone to be arriving. It is farther out of town and cabs are expensive to the hotel, so the shuttle is provided by the hotel and is free. Just make sure you inform them that what method you are arriving.

Hotel il NIdo provided a most enjoyable stay. The room had a balcony which made the fabulous view even more enjoyable. The bathroom was spacious and clean and had a great shower. The furniture is a bit dated and the carpet in the stairway is worn but that is really inconsequential. A real plus is the launderette (detergent is provided.) The restaurant is open for dinner and offers a nice menu. The breakfast provided is also very good. The shuttle service runs in the morning and late afternoon through the evening making trips in to Sorrento easy. The Sita bus stop is just across the street which is very convenient. The hotel staff is friendly and helpful.

The hotel was as described- up high in the hills with convenient shuttles to town. Breakfast was pretty good- on the terrace. Fresh O.J. machine a plus. Showers were tiny and slippery. Placing towel on floor was a great idea! There was a coin-op washer drier available and this was a godsend for sweaty clothes. We were upgraded to a room with a view.

The owner of the family owned and operated Il Nido was extremely helpful, curteous and patient. The view of the Bay of Naples, the Vesuvio and Naples was unbelievably beautiful. The breakfast spread was excellent and the best we had in Italy. Especially their pastry desplay was unbeatable. We had 1 dinner there and the food, service and the night view were all excellent. We stayed in the annex room and it would have been great except it's over a private quarter and the privacy was limited. The only negative was that the carpeted steps in the staircase showed age. Minor thing in the overall impression. The owner assisted us in finding private transportation we needed to transfer to another area of the Amalfi Coast. their shuttle service to town (Sorrento) was great and really necessary since the hotel is perched up on the hill overlooking the Bay of Naples (hence the view) and would be almost impossible to walk to. We had a great time and would come back anytime.

Our stay at Il Nido was wonderful. The most outstanding aspect of this hotel is the view. The restaurant, open only for dinner and the breakfast buffet, was excellent. The only drawback is the hotel's distance from town, but then, you wouldn't have the view. The shuttle bus service is well-run and punctual. But beware that the shuttle pickup location at Piazza Antiqua is obscure, and if you are coming on the train, its a 20 minute walk on narrow sidewalks to the pickup place. Its probably worth taking a 10 euro taxi just to get yourself situated. But once we got to the hotel, we were very pleased. The rooms are spartan, but spacious and completely adequate.

Excellent value for price. Hotel staff and pleasant furnishings make one feel instantly at home. The sea-view balcony let us enjoy a spectacular panorama from pre-dawn until well into the night. Shuttle service is quick and efficient, don't let it put you off booking at Il Nido. I was able to do day trips to Amalfi, Ercolano, Naples and Pompeii just as easily as if I had stayed right in town. Washing machine onsite. Staff are marvellous and the view is spectacular. Some fittings in my room were slightly worn but it was very clean and overall an excellent value.

We have just spent 12 days at Il Nido hotel. The views from the hotel are stunning and the rooms are clean and comfortable. Dino and his staff work hard and make every effort to be helpful. We particularly would like to mention the afternoon/evening driver who despite speaking little English was always kind and cheerful, greeting us with a big smile every time we used the shuttle bus. The food is out of this world, some of the best we tasted in Sorrento and making our own orange juice at breakfast was great.

The view is fabulous! What a way to enjoy the very good breakfast (a better cereal would have got 'excellent' ... those corn flakes are plastic, like most hotels in Italy). Comfortable bed, WiFi, hot water in a spacious shower (rare in Italy), car parking, English (and other languages) spoken and the very amiable Inspector Clouseau to drive you down to the wonderful Sorrento and back.

We stayed a week at Il Nido in May and were very pleased with our choice of hotel. We like small, personal, comfortable, quiet hotels preferably with beautiful surroundings and Il Nido had all of these things. Our balconied room overlooked the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius; probably one of the best views in Europe. We have also to mention the hotel's excellent restaurant which has a wide choice of dishes and offers up a rather wonderful choice at breakfast. The hotel is a 10 minute ride from the chaotic centre of Sorrento but the regular shuttle bus means that the distance from the town is a plus rather than a minus. Sorrento is picturesque but not exactly peaceful! If you like small, well situated hotels run by a family who really seems to care about their guests, you would do well to pitch up here!

Il Nido is a small, modern hotel on the hills overlooking Sorrento. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. It was quiet being out of the centre and there were lovely views from my room straight across the bay to Vesuvius. From the terrace I dined while watching the sun setting over Capri and the lights coming on in Sorrento. Being out of the centre meant having to rely on the hotel minibus to get in and out of the centre but since it ran hourly in the morning and evening this wasn't a big problem. Being up the hill provided a good base for the two days I spent walking the Sorrentine peninsula.

This was a very nice hotel. Staff was excellent and the view of Napoli Bay was amazing. Food very good. Staff was professional and helpful. Dining room was very clean & decorated beautifully. Of all the breakfasts we've had while traveling this was far & above the best variety & best quality. Pastries was equal to a fine restaurant & coffees perfetto. Only suggestion is to say it's about 10 minutes abouve Sorrento in a hill. This did provide a much better view of the bay & away from crowds in Sorrento town, but our driver charged more since it was above Sorrento. However, once we arrived the hotel has a wonderful Free shuttle driver.

I would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone who is happy to stay a little out of the main township and travel in and out on the free shuttle bus. The facilities were excellent - the free Wifi internet was great throughout the hotel and there was a choice of English language cable tv channels; the minibar was reasonably priced and well stocked. Also, the restaurant had great views over the Bay of Naples and was very good value - I chose to eat there every evening (note: no lunches available in the hotel). The staff were very friendly and helpful and most spoke good English. I would definitely stay here again. This was the best across-the-board value for money accommodation I have had so far in two months of travel. Thankyou Il Nido!

I liked a lot of things about Il Nido, despite only a night's stay. The first is the obvious part-the location and the view. Tranquility personified. I don't think I've felt as calm as I have for a long time when I was sitting on the balcony and overlooking the Gulf of Naples. Secondly, I like the fact that you can revel in the slightly isolated location (about 3 km from the city center) rather than suffer from it. Excellent minibar prices so I could drink to my heart's content while enjoying the sunset, and there's a hotel shuttle bus that takes you into the city and even to the train station if needed. The town center itself is very charming and full of great places to eat (especially pizzerias).

I wasn't sure about this place when we first registered as the first family member who greeted us was not what you might call real friendly. But it really grew on us as we continued our 8 night stay. The free shuttle bus runs often and on time, so the hilltop location is no problem for getting to town. The included breakfast was awesome and the hotel also serves very good dinners, which makes returning to the hotel early if one likes a real option. Views from the room = spectacular.

The staff at Il Nido were very attentive and accommodating. The view was spectacular and well worth it to pay the extra for the rooms with the view. There was enough parking, but it might fill up at more busy times of the year. The shuttle didn't run as often as was specified, but we ended up using our own car so it wasn't an issue. The restaurant was very accommodating and would cook what ever we asked. They even cooked some organic, whole grain pasta that we brought with us because it's what we prefer. They allowed us to make changes to the pasta sauces as we desired. W had a great stay at Il Nido.

A room with a billion dollar view! Il Nido was our favorite hotel in Italy. We arrived too early for dinner, but not having eaten all day. The staff showed us to our room and asked to come to the dining room in 15 minutes. We went down to our large (by italian standards) 4-person room that had glass doors opening onto a balcony that overlooked the bay, Sorrento coastline and Mt. Vesuvius. The view blew us away. We headed upstairs for what we thought would be a quick snack of bread and cheese since the restaurant wasn't open for another 2 hours. Instead we were welcomed by the best caprese salad in Italy (and I live here), vegetable appetizers, zucchini parmigiana, cheese breads and wine. A vegetarian dream for tried hungry travelers and an outstanding price, plus the most beautiful dining room of glass over looking the same great view as our bedroom - you'll never want to leave. Don't be scared away by the fact that the hotel is few minutes up the mountain... the shuttle runs every 4o minutes in the morning and again in the afternoon and evening. The hospitality was beyond compare. I hope to return soon!

My wife and I spent 4 days in Sorrento and stayed at Il Nido. The hotel is small (27 rooms I think) and you are treated with a very personal touch. We totally enjoyed the stay. The view is fantastic (see their live camera view on their website) and it is totally quiet in the evenings. The thought of the inconvenience of being a long walk from the center of Sorrento is more of a psychological barrier than the actual inconvenience itself. The shuttle is very convenient and on time. The pick up location in Sorrento is also centrally located and there is plenty of shopping, restaurants, etc nearby to the pick up so that we really never found outselves waiting and killing time. The one area we found most surprising and impressive was the quality of the restaurant. The hotel was built by the father of the sons and daughter who currently run the restaurant (and the hotel) and the mother is in the kitchen cooking each day. The older brother (Gianno??...sorry for the mispelling) is the hotel manager and head chef. It is truly a family operation and the food is nothing less than FANTASTIC. The prices are incredibly low for the quality and portions you get. My wife and I had dinner at the restaurant 3 nites we were in Sorrento, and there are many restaurants in Sorrento to choose from. And the breakfast is great with many selections. Everyone at the hotel spoke english, some better than others, but language will not be a barrier. Smiles were abundant. We would highly recommend the hotel. We would without question stay there again if we return to Sorrento. (If it weren't so darn far from Atlanta!!) Ed and Janet Chappell Johns Creek, GA

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Il Nido for 5 nights. We were picked up by the free shuttle bus at the train station and were warmly greeted upon arrival. As other reviewers mention, the hotel is not in central Sorrento but the free shuttle bus to town makes getting in and out of Sorrento very easy. On the first night we were in a double room located directly below the restaurant which turned out to be quite noisy. The bathroom was clean but was overdue for a paint job and was a little run down. We asked to be moved to a quieter room and were accommodated with no problem. The second room (two floors below the restaurant) was much quieter. The bathroom appeared to have been renovated/updated recently and was much nicer. The only issue we had was lumpy mattresses. The hotel changed the beds upon our request but one of the mattresses was still lumpy. As the other reviewers mention, the restaurant is very good and the breakfast is very substantial. The hotel also provides free internet and has self service laundry, a definite plus for travellers! I would definitely stay at this hotel again (taking care to be in a quiet room with a good mattress)

Il Nido is wonderful. The view at the restaurant is gorgeous, and the food, amazing. I ate there all 4 nights of my stay. It's a little far from town but the shuttle runs all day/night long and is very on time so very easy to plan your day to travel around the amalfi coast. I would go back in a second.

We had a very pleasant stay at Il Nido. It's a family run hotel, run by 2 brothers & a sister & their other halves which made it a very friendly place to stay with a far less "clinical" atmosphere than some hotels. As has been said by many other guests, the rooms are spacious and clean, the food in the restaurant is great and very reasonably priced and the view is spectacular. Although I would agree that on initial face value the place may feel a bit dated, the friendliness of the staff, atmosphere & view more than make up for it & it's reflected in the lower price. If you were to stay in town and get a similar view you'd probably have to pay about 2-3 times the price! I feel that Il Nido has received some unfair negative reviews. One complaint is that it's too far out of town. Well if you want to be close to town, then book a hotel that is actually close to town & don't complain! They provide a very efficient free shuttle service & if you happen to miss that it's not their fault that your time management is poor, plus there'll be another bus along an hour later so go and enjoy some more of Sorrento! Some people complain about the price of the taxi if they do miss the bus, but what about trying to walk? We're not especially fit and found it very easy to walk down to town. It was harder on the way back, I will admit, as it's uphill & was a very hot day, but we kept stopping to cool down every now & then & it wasn't that bad. All we did was ask for the short cut & Dino kindly drew it on our map! (Surely people going to the Sorrento area have realised before going that the towns & villages are built into the cliffs so there's likely to be a fair amount of up-hill walking involved if you holiday there?). If you think you're going to be a few minutes late for the bus then there's nothing to stop you calling to ask the driver to wait for you (most people take their mobiles on holiday these days don't they?). Another complaint is about the scraping of chairs from peop

I would recommend Hotel Il Nido to absolutely anybody. The location is good because although you couldn't really walk into Sorrento the transfer bus is very regular (Every hour in the morning from 8am until 11am and then from 3.30pm until 11.30pm in the evening) so this causes no problems at all. The owner of the hotel is very friendly and makes you feel very welcome. Also, the food and drink in the restaurant is very reasonably priced and excellent quality, and with the views on offer from the balcony you would expect to pay double the price anywhere else!

We spent 3 nights here. Great place. Everything everybody else says about the wonderful views, the convenience and reliability of the shuttle, the availability of free internet, and the excellent breakfasts is absolutely true! Our only complaint is that because our room was on the floor below the restaurant terrace, the scrapping of chairs from people having breakfast prevented any possibility of a lie-in beyond about 8am.

Hotel Il Nido is a beautiful setting offering a restaurant/terrace overlooking the Bay of Naples and Mt. Vesuvius. They offered the best breakfast on our trip; everything was fresh and good quality. The shuttle service in and out of Sorrento was convenient and always on time. We would definitely return. The rooms were just a little noisy; you could hear hallway conversations, etc. Otherwise, everything was great.

The Il Nido was by far my favorite stay in Italy. It is a bit far from town, but it was nice to get away from the crowds. The recently up-dated room was clean, spacious, comfortable and quiet with a nice bathroom and a good sized balcony. The hotel runs an hourly shuttle to and from town which is excellent (driving there seems a bit scary). The people that run the Il Nido are very friendly, welcoming and accomodating, the food was fabulous and the view is amazing. I loved the Sorrento area, we only had 2 nights there (not nearly long enough). The Il Nido hotel will certainly be my first choice next time I visit. The value for money is +++10.

The train in to Sorrento from Naples has 47 or some stops. It is much like a Metro Subway type train. Once you have ridden the Eurostar you are spoiled. Our trip back to Naples was by water taxi(hydrofoil) and much more efficient and pleasant. Upon our arrival as instructed we called the Hotel and within 15 minutes Il Nido Shuttle and John the driver were there. Just enough time to run to the supermarket on the main street and grab some vino and vittles.Sorrento is beautiful. A quick 10 minute ride in the air conditioned shuttle and we were there. The suite was for 4 person quad with a fabulous view that stays with you all day.The 5 piece washroom was large enough and our party was one man three lovely women. The balcony was sufficient. The towels were functional but not of the plush variety we are accustomed to. The service was great and this with our inadequate spoken Italian. We loved the Dining room where we had three of our four evening meals out on the terrace overlooking Sorrento and Mount Vesuvious.Daytime or nightime it was a postcard that we were living in.The town and its shops were lovely, easy to stroll leisurely along and the Centro cafe (Furno) was the perfect place to watch Sorrento roll. We ventured to Positano by bus and that was harrowing hanging over the cliffs but memorable. The ride back we took the water taxi. The breakfast provided at Il Nido was opened from 7-9 am and served pastries, fruit cereals,a fresh orange juicer machine and vending-type cappuccinos which were quite good. The girls longed for a pool for this was the leisure part of our vacation. That was our mistake but Il Nido more than made up for it.

We spent 3 nights at Il Nido in the middle of August. It was quite hard to find at first and we were about to turn over and drive down the hill again, but finally we found it. We were not quite happy about the location at first because it is not very close to the city centre. But then the staff told us about the free shuttle service and I can only say that it was very reliable and the driver very friendly! The staff tried to help us with everything and was very friendly. Breakfast was heavenly! The best thing about Il Nido is the price, because you get a lot for little money! I would definetly recommend chosing Il Nido to everyone traveling to Sorrento!

Breathtaking view and the location is not bad given their free shuttles. Very basic rooms so i would not recommend for a romantic gateway..the rooms do not shed no romantic atmosphere whatsoever. Otherwise it’s a nice hotel for the money (relatively to Italy...) with a very good service. Nido was very welcoming and he cooked for us pasta for dinner by himself as we arrived pretty late at night after a very long driving. He also upgraded our room as there was one with a view available.

My friend and I stayed at Il Nido in July 2008 and absolutely loved it. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly, the rooms were clean, spacious (and air conditioned!), the internet was free from 8am-midnight, the breakfast was included in the price and delicious (not to mention the amazing view on the terrace where we enjoyed our breakfast!) A free and reliable shuttle service is available from the main square in town and it's only about a 10 minute winding drive up to the resort. The staff provides you with a handy printout of pick up and drop off times as well as train information to neighbouring towns and sights and info to Rome/Naples. I would absolutely recommend Il Nido as a fantastic hotel in the Amalfi area and an excellent base from which to take day trips to the Amalfi Coast, Capri, Pompeii and surrounding areas. I would definitely stay here again!

Delightful! Tucked in the hillsides, this family-run hotel is aptly named Il Nido (the Nest) as it is welcoming, comfortable and accommodating in every way. Most rooms and the Dining Terrace offer a panoramic view of the Gulf of Napoli and Mt. Vesuvius. The food is excellent--be sure to order the mussels and fresh catch of the day. A nice breakfast is included in the price (including freshly squeezed Sorrento orange juice). Very convenient location with a complimentary shuttle bus available at the hotel for transportation to and from the train station and the city centre. The public bus stop is right outside the hotel for easy transport to and from Amalfi and Positano; tickets can be purchased at the hotel desk. The only negative is that the rooms are not sound proof. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Wonderful B & B.

This is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. From our room and also the breakfast/dining room, we had a breathtaking view of the Bay of Naples and Mt Vesuvius. The staff were very helpful, informative, and gave us timetables and maps on arrival. The free shuttle bus to Sorrento was great. We ate in the hotel restaurant 2 nights, and stupidly ate elsewhere for the other two, and wished we had stayed at the hotel! Eat on the terrace outside the dining room for a gorgeous sunset.Nice free glass of bubbly, snacks and bruschetta before you even order your meal. The breakfast was very comprehensive and delicious. Spacious, clean room. Our car had a wonderful view from the car park too!Excellent value for money.

We loved Il Nido and will return. The view from the balcony overlooking the Gulf of Naples and Mt Vesuvius was breathtaking. The shuttle service was excellent, as we were worried about being 5km from Sorrento. If you were any closer you would never find the view, peacefulness and service Il Nido offers. The staff were helpful and quietly worked in the background. The food in the restaurant was top quality, better than most we had in Italy and the view from the restaurant balcony is stunning. I would like to see Il Nido supply each room with a corksrew and wine glasses so you can sit out on your balcony, sip wine and take in the ambience.

This is a great family run hotel. It is high on the hill overlooking the Bay of Naples from above Sorrento. They offer a shuttle bus into Sorrento that is very convenient and they have a restaurant with very good food and the best view in town. It was a pleasure to eat both breakfast and dinner there every day. Each room has a small balcony with table and chairs and the same great view. There is ample parking on the roof. My wife and I stayed one night. There is a great view from the property. The property is well maintained and the shuttle service to and from Sorrento shopping area was convenient and efficient. The included self-serve buffet breakfast was good, considering what you often get in Italy. On the minus side, the bed was not comfortable. Also, the room was noisy during the day. Doors opening and closing echoed very loudly in the hallway outside the room. Overall, we felt it was a decent value.

We stayed at Il Nido for 3 nights at the end of an 11-day trip through London and Italy. The rooms were small, but clean. As everything in Rome is very expensive, I am assuming that the cost was commensurate with other similar hotels. We had several small service problems, including a lack of toilet paper and a wake-up call that came an hour early the morning of our departing flight (which could have been a disaster if it had been an hour late). The location was convenient as it was centrally located to many of the sights.

Wonderful hotel atop the mountains above Sorrento. A real bargain given current Italy pricing. This hotel could be the best bargain in the entire country! Gino, the owner runs a tight ship and is hands on all the time...very cordial and extremely helpful. The hotel restaurant is superb and the prices are very low. The hotel has a shuttle running down to town nearly every hour so you need not take your car....there is no parking in town for non-residents and the traffic is a bear...this convenience is incredible. Although out of town, the shuttle service is good once you get to understand it. The staff were friendly and helpful and offered us a choice of rooms on arrival. Very good and friendly place. Nice rooms, good breakfast, car park. Located 10 minutes by car from the center of Sorrento, it offers very convinient shuttle service. The owners are extremely friendly and speak good English. We traveled by car, and the hotel is located very conveniently to visit all the major attractions of the region (Pompeii, Amalfi coast, Napoli...) plus to have a good "beach" type of a holiday. As far as I understood from the other guests, it is equally good for those who prefer train/boat trips rather than driving. I will certainly recommend it to everyone.

This was one of our favorite hotels. The staff was very friendly and welcoming and helpful. Everyone enjoyed the robotic orange juice squeezer at breakfast time. The restaurant service felt a little slow by American standards, but we did not really mind, and the food was very good. If the weather is nice enough to eat outside on the balcony you will not mind lingering--the view of the sea is wonderful. There were two computers for internet access. We had a car (there is parking on the roof of the hotel) but there is a hotel shuttle bus to and from Sorrento, and you can also catch the SITA bus to the Amalfi coast on the road across from the hotel. Beautiful views from our room and the dining room, excellent breakfasts. We enjoyed dinner there as well, prepared and served by the owner and members of his family. Internet access availability is a plus. The location is outside of town. When we travel, we generally try to stay near the train station or in the heart of things. But Il Nido operates a very reliable van service between town, the train station and the hotel at prescribed times so it is easy to get to where you want to go.
