Brilliant location and the view from the rooms were amazing. Could see Mount Vesuvius and Naples across the sea. Getting into town was a breeze as the buses ran from outside the hotel, and even the ferries to Capri is within 2mins from the front door.

Big hotel, with nice rooms. The problems to me were: a group of 30 high scholl guys screaming in the hotel, really bad staff in the desk (didn't even try to help me with some troubles I had - they refused to print me a simple page, even when I said i would lost the train if I couldn't print the ticket- and after all: I needed to work in my computer, I paid 15 euro to use some hours of internet and then realized that the wifi was only avaliable in the front desk... If you want to be a real italian place, eat good food, learn some italian, run from sorrento: it's a really touristic city: bad and expensive food, bad service all around, only crap gifts on the stores... Go to Naples!!!

Nice, clean hotel in the charming small harbour of Sorrento. Excellent restaurant, but modest breakfast. Don't hesitate to ask for a room with wiew on the sea! To go to the city center, you'll need to take the bus, which is available from 7 am. to 10 pm. You can park your car in the hotel's garage for 20 eur/day, the garage's opening hours are 8 am-8pm!

Everything as booked, except air conditioning didn't work and very noisy with window open. Manageable walk into Sorrento, very handy for ferries. Breakfast adequate. Altogether compared to other hotel prices this was OK for the price.

This was our first time to Sorrento and we made reservations online for Il Faro. We figured to be in town and at the marina equally, so we chose to stay next to the water for easy access to Capri. The location at the marina was perfect! Although the hill (steps/street) leading up to town may be too much for some, I enjoyed running the hill and on the streets early in the morning before traffic. For those not wanting to walk (young kids, elderly, etc), the town bus runs frequently. Our room's balcony offered a place to relax and enjoy people watching in the morning and evenings. The hotel was nice and clean and, although the bath was a little "aged", it was fully acceptable. We were sorry to only be able to stay for 2 nights, but were trying to see several places in Italy in 7 days.

I had booked a single for a budget price (40 euro) and I got a room which was quite small but had a double bed which was positive. The room had no real windows though and faced the street where there was a lot of heavy traffic. The noise was out of this world and the buses ran until about 23.30 at night and started again quite early in the morning. The breakfast was nothing to write home about, even if the bread was qiute nice compared to some other places I stayed in. If you book this hotel you should be aware that it´s down on the port (Marina Piccola)and that the actual town of Sorrento is a good climb above the port. You have to walk quite a lot of steps or take a long walk along a serpentine road unless you want to spend 2,4 euros for the bus every time you want to go up or down. Even considering the low price I paid in the otherwise expensive Sorrento I cannot recommend anyone to book a budget room in this hotel. I don´t know if the higher priced rooms are any better but I hope they are. On the positive side was that the staff was nice and helpful.

This hotel was perfect. The staff was most helpful. The hotel is located at the bottom of the cliff and the bus stop is just across the street to take you to the top if you did not want to walk up. The breakfast buffet was great--many choices. Sorrento is magical at Christmas. I would definitely stay at Il Faro again.

Charming, clean, friendly staff. Nice location, next to the marina to go to Capri and other islands. Very close to downtown, with a nice view from the balcony room overlooking the marina. Romantic atmosphere. The breakfest inlcuded is quite big, and lots of food.

Hotel in heart of port, good for boats but not for town of Sorrento but there are buses all the time to the town. Hotel room medium size, but en-suite bathroom very small. The garage for the hotel is a valet service, but did not open until 07.00 am and closed by 7.30 pm not ideal if travelling by car. Garage and restaurant operate separate to hotel, so garage is cash and restaurant you have to settle the bill direct and cannot put it on your hotel bill. There are no pamphlets for sightseeing on display in the foyer. Also did not particularly like the regimented seating at breakfast time.

Very convenient position for taking boats (Capri, Ischia, Naples, Positano); for downtown Sorrento, there are the minibus (1 EUR) o a ten minutes walk. Wonderful balcony on the port. Spaciuos rooms, clean and recenntly restructured. Bathrooms old, few comfortables. Breakfast not satisfactory. Parking price 20 EUR for night.

My friend and I stayed at a double room from the 13th til the 15th of July w a balcony w views of the sea and marina. We were very satisfied w the service except for the smell in the bathroom and the charge of 5 euros an hour for the internet. Breakfast was basic. Nina and Mario were very accomodating. The location is excellent, the only hotel by the marina which have ferries to Capri,Ischia and the rest of Amalfi coast. The steep climb on the stairs to Piazza Tasso was a great workout to burn all that pasta. The management, mostly family were wonderful and treated us as part of them. Hugs to Nonna, Gino,Genaro, Carmela, Mike, Gian Paulo,Marco and most of all to Lello and Nino! Thank u for taking care of us! The restaurant in front is open for lunch and dinner, had great service! I was amazed at their system for big tour groups from the boats, very organized! They have the best seafood and dessert in town! Sorrento will always be special to us.

Problem accessing the Internet from the rooms. The staff was very friendly. Good value for the price. The location is down by the marina - definitely good location. My only complaint was with the parking. When they brought my car back, the attendant parked it in a "locals only" spot and I just about got a ticket. I would return to this hotel and I would recommend it to others.

Very convenient location for taking the ferry to Capri. NOT at all close to the heart of Sorento which is at the top of the mountain. This hotel is located at the Bottom in the Port. Not much to do down in the Port. It worked well for as as we used it, for a evening stay prior to taking the morning ferry to Capri. Service was very nice, although the proprietor was pushing their restaurant too hard. They were accommodating, by storing some of our luggage that we did not want to take with us to Capri and for an additional fee took care of our car.

Upon arrival we were greeted very well. as the days went on there was a change in the attitude of the mgmt.we were never able to eat in the main dining room and were never given a good reason as to why not. as a result we were pushed to eat in the tavern which was next to the main entrance there was no menu and were given very few options by the mgr.one evening they were not prepared at all & it was catch as catch can as a result i had food poisoning. when we were leaving i pointed out to mgmt that there was mold in the bathroom ceiling and it was shrugged off. my wife & i have been to sorrentoa number of times & were always satisfied with our accomodations both the food & the ambiance of the rooms & service was beyond belief i would not reccomend il faro hotel to any of our friends.

We decided to check out Sorrento on our way to Positano, so it was a quick stay. The hotel is not in the "downtown" area, but that didn't bother us at all. You can walk or there is a bus. Very quick. The staff was very nice and freindly. The room was small, yet clean. Great for the price, we'd go back. FYI - The restaurant onsite was over priced and "touristy". The breakfast great - there is a garage for guests.

Excellently located for ferries to Capri, Amalfi, Naples, etc. but at the bottom of a cliff, and some 200 steps to the main street of Sorrento. Rooms are typically small, and bathroom was miniscule with 60 cm square shower, linen towels, about the size of an Australian tea towel. Breakfast was mediocre.

This hotel was very nice. Room was very clean, and I could see ocean from my room. Employees were very friendly, so I could have many informations from them. Enjoyed the position, a good walk to dinner in town, which was fine. The port was noisy - which many of the hotel information sites had commented on, so this noise was expected. It was also pretty full of school kids when we arrived who were fairly noisy, but the hotel did their best to segregate the kids from the rest of us. I did have trouble trying to close the shutters tho' and the port lights were very bright at night, so had to resort to putting a pillow over my head.

The original room was good but very noisy. We were unable to keep the window open for the exhaust smoke from the traffic below. The second part of our stay was in a broom closet at the top level of the hotel, very unsatisfactory. The walk to/from the town centre is OK if you are fit, not suitable for older people. There is a bus service to the top but it runs infrequently after the last boat from Capri.

Not very clean is our biggest complaint and you have to understand that we're seasoned travelers who aren't jaded. Lots of mold. Staff were quite friendly and helpful and the location near the boats to Capri we excellent. Busses to the center (up a long windy traffic ridden, dangerous hill) could have been more reliable but that's not the fault of the hotel.

The location of this hotel could not have been better. We got off the 9AM ferry from Capri and we were there! No buses, no taxis needed! They even let us check into our room by 10:30AM so we were free to explore all day without worrying about luggage storage. The rooms and bathrooms are small, but this is standard for Italy, as are tablecloths for bath towels. Mold is also commonplace since most properties are old and by the sea, and there was a little in the ceiling in our bathroom. But the staff was great, bus and taxi service at the front door which takes you directly to the bus/train station, restaurant was excellent and cheaper than in town, and the walk up the steps into town was no big deal. Their breakfast was ample, roll, croissant, ham & cheese, yogurt, cereal, juice and coffee, not the best but nothing to complain about. Our room did not have a balcony but there was a common terrace that you could have wine and sit and watch the happenings at the harbour. Sorrento is a good place to stay (less expensive) to explore Pompeii and the Amalfi coast as they have boat, bus and train service to get where you need to go.

Excellent and beautiful location a few steps from the ferry dock. A brief walk up a number of stairs (good exercise to work off the pizza) leads you to downtown Sorrento. Alternately, frequent buses can take you downtown if you don't like the stairs. Overall, an excellent hotel for the price.

Having travelled Italy etc for 5 weeks, this was one of the better experiences. Restaurants in the vicinity are very pricy, beware of the one right on the beach (not related to hotel)app 100m from hotel - a double bacon burger for 9.80 is served without any roll, dressing etc, you receive two minute patties and 2 strips of bacon, cover charge 4.00 pp.The hotel staff was very friendly, rooms a bit small but otherwise perfect, close to jetty for boats to Capri, this hotel certainly one of the highlights on our trip, can recommend without hesitation.

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at the Il Faro. It is near the harbour so it can get a little noisy, but the views are great. The room was simple, bathroom small, but both were clean. It was a bit of a steep hike up the stairs/hill to the main square, but it was not a far distance. We were also able to walk to the Circumvesuviana ~ 1/2 mile.

The location of the hotel is great for ferry traveling. The rooms are small and we reserved a double bed and recieved 2 twin beds. The walls are paper thin and we could hear every noise from the other hotel guests. The plumbing needs major updates. Once someone in our room used the toilet, we would have to wait 15 minutes before someone else could use it again. The shower was so small you could hardly use it. We had black mold in several places on the walls in the bathroom. My husband was sick the entire time we where there from it. The water even smelled badly when you turned on the shower. The entire hotel is very old and needs major remodeling. The mattress and pillows were so uncomfortable during our stay I was not able to fall asleep. The breakfast offered is very lacking in apeal, they need to change it up from day to day and offer more. We went away still very hungry every time.

Best deal in Sorrento: You are literally 500 feet from a port where you can catch a ferry to Naples, Capri, or Ischia. The daytime consierge was so accommodating that he excused me from paying for a night that I had previously reserved online, even though I had not canceled it online before checking into the hotel. He spoke excellent English. Other staff was less helpful and did not speak English well. The restaurant next to the hotel has charming staff and great seafood.

LOVED staying here. View of the water is gorgeous. The staff and owner could not have been more helpful or friendly. We lost our luggage and they made every effort to help us get it. Hotel is very nice, fantastic location and view. Rooms are spacious. If there were two things I could change it would be that there was a moldy spot on the ceiling when entering the room (looked like repeated water damage) and poor lighting for the room. Regardless the positives FAR outway the negatives and for the price, location and quality this is a deal! I would highly recommend to anyone. Sorrento is the PERFECT location for visiting the coast and taking day trips. This is the place to be!

Il Faro is a great staging post for Sorrento, Capri and Amalfi Coast. The rooms are basic, towels are like tea cloths, however the service is friendly and it is in a great position at the marina beside the boats to Capri. Parking (charged extra) can be a problem as you must park in garages located quite far from the hotel, however the staff will bring you to and from these by motorbike. The big plus about the hotel is that you don't have to queue for a bus after disembarking from the boat from Capri. Also this part of town is very quiet at night. Great value hotel would have no problem recommending.

This hotel is located right at the port where the ferries leave to Capri. It was a bit tricky to find the hotel first. The room was a bit tight but clean with an effective A/C. Walking to the center of the town is not a problem if you like walking, otherwise. Public bus service is plentiful from the hotel to the center, a five minutes ride. Parking is located about 1.5 km away from the hotel at 15 Euro per day. Transportation between the hotel and the garage is on a motorcycle, which was fun adventure. Very friendly staff and owner. The stay turned out to be a nice one. The breakfast was also fine. My wife and I love Sorrento as we continue to visit whenever the opportunity arises.

Everything about our stay was as usual excellent. I do query a number of minor charges that were made to my credit card. They appear to be telephone charges (I made many calls), but if so I was double charged as 62 Euros were added to my bill for telephone usage. That notwithstanding, we will plan to stay there the next time we are in Sorrento. We get there about every two years.

The hotel was very nice. Some rooms in the hotel have a view of the water. The hotel was a little far from the train station. So, you should take one of the local buses to the "Piccola Marina" or a taxi. The bus drops you a few steps from the hotel. The restaurant at the hotel is very good and attentive. Il Faro has a pleasant atmosphere of a family-run hotel, and the location is excellent, particularly if you arrive by boat (n.b. you will have to hike some stairs to get into town). Our stay at Il Faro was fine, but had a room in the back that was extremely noisy in the morning from the road below. Since the hotel is at sea level, and the town is above on the cliffs, vehicles have to accellerate up the hill, causing lots of noise. The staff were nice, and the breakfast was moderately good. For the price, it was very convenient to Sorrento, but was down the cliffs, which was a significant climb if you are not using taxis or bus.

The unadorned rooms are average size. My single bedroom was towards the back and therefore quiet. Breakfast is served by a waiter, but otherwise not worth mentioning. The hotel has a nice sundeck on the 4th floor overlooking the harbour (marina piccola) and the coast towards Capri. In summary, basic hotel at a great location, which should do for one or two nights.

I spent 6 nights here. I was very pleased by the quality of service provided by the staff: everyone from the concierge to the breakfast waiters were excellent! The only disappointment was that my single room was in the back of the hotel without any balcany or seaview, which the website implied was available from each room. However it is very common for single rooms to have lesser facilities (in Europe). I would still return for another holiday to this same hotel. The younger desk clerk was very friendly and helpful (too bad he is not gay :( )

Booked 3 rooms for 3 couples on-line (Venere) and were pleasantly surprised with the hotel, its location, etc. Hotel staff was great (e-mailed back and forth with them a couple times) and very accomodating, associated hotel resturants were excellent. Bus stop to go into town was right outside the hotel as was boat to Capri, in fact we took the boat from Naples and walked right up to the hotel. We were easily able to take the bus to the train station and catch the train to Pompeii and the bus service in and around the city was great. For late October, the weather was great. All in all a great expereince and one we would recommend to others. Our only regret was not having enough time to see everything - will have to go back I guess.

When we arrived it appeared they had overbooked and we were offered a suite at a discounted rate of 100 euro which was fine. We had a spacious room with a large balcony. Breakfast is very ordinary, possibly one of the worst we had in Italy. Location is fine but away from the main attractions of Sorrento. Buses take you up the steep hill from the Marina otherwise you can walk and take the stairs. Probably wouldn't stay in this part of Sorrento again but the owner and staff are all lovely.

With a location both convenient and exciting, Il Faro offers the genuine feel of Italy - a refreshing change from the bland 'international' hotel. Close to the port, so good for hydrofoil hopping to the islands, and to public transport, it allowed us to pack much more into our stay. Watching the panorama of port and bay from our room was always fascinating. The restaurant was excellent - and the option of walking up the hundred or so steps into central Sorrento meant we weren't guilty about the amount we ate! The manager and staff were delightful and this is a hotel with character that we'd be happy to return to. To be frank, we weren't sure before arriving, and it possibly wouldn't suit everyone, but we had a great time.

Very friendly. We had beautiful spacious room with terrace and wonderful view. Excellent value. Bit of a hike up to the main part of town, but convenient local bus ran frequently.

We arrived there after a long day of travel and sightseeing. Our room overlooked the sea and we had a balcony. It was very bright and clean. Everyone there was so nice and welcoming. We ate at their restaurant that night. The food was delicious and the servers were extremely competent, nice and entertaining. I wish we had been there longer than one night, but our itinerary was set at that point. It was a great place to stay!

Nice hotel in a good spot. Initially seemed a bit removed from the centre, but in fact it was good to be down by the marina, and the 5-10 minute walk up the steps to the centre was no problem for us (and would be no problem for most) and there is a bus if you prefer. The restaurant adjacent to the hotel was excellent. The walls between rooms were a bit thin, and it sometimes felt like the family next to us were in our room with us. But overall a very enjoyable stay.

This hotel is a family hotel which is excellent situated, it could not get any better. There was no parking and that was a promble.

Lovely family run hotel, ideally situated to travel to other islands etc as right on harbour, and easy access to either walk to main square or catch local bus. Staff most helpful could not do enough for us, arranging tours etc plus EXCELLENT RESTAURANT!!! would recommend to anyone & would definately use again.

My partner, Marc, and I enjoyed our stay. The hotel was lovely. The staff very welcoming and helpful. The location is ideal-just a short walk to the sea and a quick bus ride up to town (though the really fit, like Marc, will love the walk!). We really loved the sea view from our room. The restaurant in the hotel had the best seafood we'd ever tasted! We would highly reccommend Il Faro to everyone.

Hotel Il Faro was a great place to stay. My friend and I loved that it was right on the water. The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean. The drain in my shower was slow, but the fixed it after I told them about it.

Very much enjoyed out Stay at the hotel. Good location, pleasant room and enjoyed the view from the balcony. The only thing I would say is that the breakfast was very poor - no choice of juice. No fruit and No cereal.

The hotel is a little tired and could do with a refurbishment but overall excellent location and value for money

I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel - it's a very nice hotel in a decent location ,if you ignore the hike up the hill to town (but you can get a bus for a euro). Right by the port so handy for all the ferries, though very noisy during the day with the windows open. Good room with small balcony and a cracking view over the Bay of Naples to Vesuvius. Staff were all helpful and very friendly. You get 10% off the 2 attached restaurants (tried the seafood one and it was very good). Breakfast was OK - usual fare (ham, cheese, bread, marmalade) but the coffee was a little suspect.
