This hotel is a true gem as it really isn't that expensive yet has lovely interiors, full of light and fresh air thanks to large opening windows, balconies with great views and a top-notch restaurant.

Step out of The Giosuè a Mare Hotel and onto the beautiful private beach full of sun loungers for guests to use and of course the resident lifeguard to keep you safe. This Sorrento hotel is ideal if you want to move around the Sorrento and Amalfi coastlines as well as Naples, Pompeii, Capri and Ischia. We stayed right at the end of the holiday season - end October so it was very quiet. Staff were really nice, tho limited English for us. Restaurant was very pleasant, well priced & with superb views across the bay. From my bed I could see across tha bay to the Vesuvius. Right down on the beach at the bottom of steep cliffs, everything was intricate, different, fascinating - houses & bars deep into the cliff. Not much in Meta town, a few km from Sorrento which is enchanting. Well placed for Amalfi & the islands as well as Pompeii & Vesuv. A very different world to mine for a week...

Das Hotel liegt in Meta, einem Vorort von Sorrent, ca. 6 Kilometer vom Zentrum, auf Meereshöhe. Fährt man mit dem Auto dort hin, sollte man sehr gute Nerven haben und gut versichert sein. Die Italiener gerade in der Region fahren so aggressiv und rücksichtslos, daß man sich schnell wünscht, seinen Urlaub woanders zu verbringen. Fährt man mit dem Bus, muss man erst eine steile Treppe hoch steigen, um zur Haltestelle zu kommen. Die Fahrscheine gibt es, wenn man Glück hat, in einer Bar, 200 Meter von der Bushaltestelle. Alle Orte an der Küste haben kaum Parkmöglichkeiten und die paar vorhandenen sind extrem teuer (5€/Std.)Das Hotel hat wenige Parkplätze in einer Art Höhle am Hotel gegen Aufpreis (5€/Nacht). Etwas weiter unten gibt es von der Kommune für 1,50€ Parkmöglichkeiten im Freien. Am Empfang spricht man Englisch. Bei mir hatte man vergessen zu erwähnen, daß es Frühstück nur in der Zeit von 7-9 Uhr gibt. Am ersten Tag fiel es dann aus, wobei man eigentlich gut daruaf verzichten kann. In Plastik verpackte Croissants, Brot vom Vorabend, Marmelade und Nutella standen auf der Speisekarte. Der angebotene O-Saft war nur billig und brannte im Hals. Das Highlight war Sonntags, da gab es eine Sorte Käse und eine Sorte Salami zusätzlich. Das Restaurant öffnete erst ab 19 Uhr, dafür war das Essen schmackhaft und nicht zu teuer. Die Zimmer sind wie im Labyrinth angelgt, man braucht Zeit, um sich zurecht zu finden. Mein Zimmer hatte eine Aussicht auf eine Mauer, die in 1 Meter Entfernung zum Fenster lag. Ablagemöglichkeit neben dem Bett fehlten. Auf einem Schreibtisch mit eingebautem Kühlschrank stand eine Lampe, die man nur durch ziehen des Steckers ausschalten konnte. Der Fernseher zeigte ein schlechtes Bild und nur auf italienisch. Wenn man das Glück hat, ein Zimmer zum Meer zu bekommen, kann man wunderschöne Sonnenungtergänge erleben, die leicht rechts neben Ischia untergeht.Ich war Anfang Mai dort und es war sehr voll überall.

By car
Take the A3 Motorway Napoli-Salerno. From the toll booth of Castellammare di Stabia, take the motorway to the Peninsula of Sorrento and continue on to Meta. Once you reach the church of La Madonna Del Lauro, take the first right and follow street signs to the beach (spiaggia). You will find The Giosuè a Mare Hotel at number 2 via A. Caruso.

By airplane
From Naples Capodichino Airport: Take the Curreri bus to Sorrento. Get off the bus at Meta, Chiesa della Madonna del Lauro.

By ferry
From Naples Molo Beverello: Take any hydrofoil boat or fast ferry to Sorrento. From the Sorrento city center (piazza Tasso), take the Circumvesuviana bus line A to Meta.

By train
From Naples Piazza Garibaldi: Take the local Circumvesuviana train to Sorrento. Get off at Meta. From the train station take the Circumvesuviana bus line A and get off at the beach. You can also call The Giosuè a Mare Hotel who will arrange for someone to pick you up from the station.
