Our room was a generous size, with a balcony overlooking the outside breakfast area. Everything in the hotel was clean and well kept and the restaurant staff were among the smartest waiters I have ever seen. The Reception staff spoke good English and were very polite and efficient. The hotel has 2 pools, one in the garden, and a small one on the roof. They have some form of ‘entertainment’ each evening ranging from a simple happy hour, to a sedate pianist in the bar area. The hotel has a restaurant area both inside and outside for breakfast and dinner. The selection of food for breakfast was fine, but we didn’t have dinner there. The diner menu looked quite expensive, and Sorrento has a large selection of bars and restaurants in the town which we preferred to use. The hotel is about a 10-15 minute stroll from Piazza Tasso which is at the heart of the bars/restaurants/shops. For us, this was perfect as we like a bit of stroll before and after dinner in the evening.

At first we were a bit surprised to discover that our room had no windows. However, the overall high quality of the room made up for this slight disappointment.

The hotel was very spacious and clean. The staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. When we arrived we were upgraded to a superior room at no extra cost which was a real bonus. The rooms onthe 4th and 5th floor had sea views but the hotel was not as close to the sea front as we expected. Youy could access the beach from a sister hotel closer to the sea front. The pool was surrounded by buildings which was a little offputting. The rooftop plunge pool was more inviting.

A friend and I spent six days at Hotel De La Ville. We received, as requested,a Standard Double room. Room 416, it had every convenience necessary except an ordinary window! It had a french window that opened on to our small balcony. Our room was serviced thoroughly each day. We loved our time in this hotel.

The breakfast was quite the spread, especially for an Italian Hotel. The room was very nice with beautiful tile work, furnature, and a gorgeous view. Our only complaint was that the directions (obtained from this web site) to get to the hotel from the train station were ridiculously unhelpful and innacurate. It was an easy walk once you know the direction.

Wonderful stay! The bedrooms & the bathrooms were larger than any we have seen in Europe. The tilework on the floors & the wood work on the furniture was fabulous! Our patio gave us a partial view of the ocean....beautiful!!They served breakfast each morning either in their very elegant dining room or outside in the garden area...which was lovely, both day, but especailly at night!! Breakfast had an expansive selection, including eggs anyway you wanted them cooked. The hotel was located within walking distance of town, which made it very easy to get around.

It was nice on the part of the hotel to upgrade us to a Classic room from a standard room. The hotel had really great facilities and the view form the roof-top bar and pool is superb. The breakfast was really great. The location is nice as well with just about 5-7 min walk to the trains and buses. No complaints at all.

The De La Ville has masses of unfulfilled potential. The photos on the website lead you to believe that the hotel is truly Italian, however when you arrive you quickly realise that this has been compromised to cater for typically English guests. The dinner menu is a prime example, practically meat and two veg every day. I ordered risotto on the first night I was there and it was incredibly disappointing. Fruit salad for dessert came out of a tin!!! This is even more disappointing when compared to some of the excellent restaurants available in the town, Basillica being the best we found. The hotel is also in need of some investment, the public female toilets were a disgrace. It's a great hotel if you want to be abroad but surrounded by home comforts rather than committing to an italian way of life.

The main problem for me was that I was misled by the photos, particularly of the terrace/pool, into thinking that it was much nearer the sea. Sea view rooms have a distant view but are over a very noisy road, so that it is unpleasant to sit out on the balcony and very noisy at night with the window open. Hotel was rescued by great staff and service, welcome, and magnificent buffet breakfast(cooked as well). Fixed price dinner was expensive and not very Italian. Hotel was full of British and Irish groups but the service for independent travellers didn't suffer.

This was the beginning of our 2 weeks in Italy. If you are planning to visit the Amalfi area, I would stay in Sorrento as it is a great base for exploring Amalfi, Positano, Capri, Pompeii and even Napoli (by train). The best attribute of this specific hotel is the location...just off the major center area, so it is quiet at night. And, the breakfast is the best at any hotel we stayed. We did not drive, but there seemed to be parking around the area. 10 minute walk from train. Eat Pizza at Franco's best in Italy. Get the Pan di Stella Gelato up the street after the Piazza on the right if coming from Franco's.

Too expensive. Hotel staff not friendly. The lay out, decor and quality of the room was not as seen in the online picture. Food- 19 euros for a small ham and cheese sandwich and french fries. The hotel charges 5 euros to bring each dish to your room. Very noisy. Paid 11 euros to use their car park and instead the hotel staff parked our on the street. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL!

Central location. 10 minutes from Piazza Tasso, 10 minutes from Circumvesuviana train station/bus station and 20 minutes to Marina Piccola (to catch ferry to Capri). Hotel staff were excellent, breakfast was very tasty and plentiful. Rooms were spacious but no tea/coffee making facilities in your room. Would certainly stay here again if visiting Sorrento. Do visit the lemon/orange grove nearby which is a short cut onto the Corso Italia. Do make the effort to visit the Marina Grande and take in the view from the gardens adjoining the San Francesco Church. Enjoy.

We did not get to stay at the de la ville hotel. Our reservation was for four nights. When we arrived they stated that we were being upgraded to another hotel. They drove us to the Europa Palace. I do have to say the Europa Palace was an upgrade. The Del la ville was two blocks off of the sea. The Europa Palace was on a cliff overlooking the sea and the isle of Capri. Our stay at the Europa Palace was wonderful. The view was amazing, the staff was great, the location was perfect. The only problem we encountered was with the room noise. Our room was on the first floor and we heard them throw out trash with lots of glass bottles a 2 a.m. Then the trash truck would come at 5:30 a.m. for pick up and crushed the trash outside our window. They did move us on the third night to the third floor which helped. Even though we experienced noise for two nights we would not hesitate going back to the Europa Palace. We ate breakfast on the outside patio with a great view of the sea. It was a short 3 to 5 minute walk to the train station.

This was our first time in Sorrento and it was fabulous. The hotel was even better than expected. It was meticulous, the breakfast was wonderful with great variety and the lunches in the garden were very good. The pools were great, especially the rooftop pool with its quiet and beautiful views of the Gulf of Naples. The location of the hotel was perfect--a leisurely 10 min. walk to the main part of town with shops and restaurants. The staff was courteous and helpful. We would definitely return and wish we could have stayed longer!

We stayed three nights and were very pleased with our accomadations. Ample space and a beauiful bathroom. Excellent location to the train station and local and SITA bus service. We visited Pompeii, Capri, and the Almafi coast on our own and had a wonderful time. The breakfast feast was the best of any of the other five hotels we stayed during our 15-day holiday. Made-to-order omeletts with bacon, refreshing mimosas, delicious pastry, fresh fruit were only a few of the many selections offered at breakfast. This was our second visit to Sorrento and if there should be a third time, you will find us at the Hotel De La Ville.

We reached by the car. There is sign of the hotel here and there. It is easy to find your hotel comparatively. Furnishing goods of the room were very refined. We enjoyed staying the room. The sea view was very fine. The taste of the restaurant is not so good. But there was no restaurant on foot. There is no choice.

Gorgeous room, helpful staff, great breakfast buffet. View from the room would have been better on a higher floor (we were on the 2nd). It was very conveniently located to the Stazione and Piazza Tasso. They should arrange with a van or taxi service to provide affordable airport transportation (they would have charged 100 Euros, so we took a bus from the Stazione for 14 Euros).

The hotel was very nice - but maybe too nice for us! It had 4-star service but also 4-star prices in the restaurant and bar. The location was good. It was a short walk to the town centre through a lemon grove. We ate lunch in the hotel café once and were disappointed to find that the pizza was not hand-made: a real shame in the Campania region.

We really enjoyed our stay. The service was fantastic, the staff very friendly and most professional. Rooms were very luxurious, though the view from my room was not very good. However the room made up for it. We were only sorry that we did not make the most of the facilities because we were out sightseeing and had only a short stay. Next time we will leave time to enjoy the hotel more.I would recommend the hotel to anyone spending time in Sorrento.

This was a great hotel. The rooms were very large and the breakfast was the best we had in Italy. The deck view was amazing and we spent every sunset there. The private beach was also a huge plus. The hotel is located perfectly away from the noise of the Sorrento streets but only a 5 minute walk to everything, including the train station and port. We would definitely stay here again.

An excellent 4 start hotel with a personal touch. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis (breakfast excellent) which enabled us to try lots of wonderful restaurants in Sorrento. The main town is a 5 minute walk from the hotel. I would recommend a 5th floor sea view room. Well worth paying a bit extra for this.

An excellent hotel, not particularly cheap but an excellent overall standard. The situation is almost ideal being within a few minutes walk of the town centre and only a couple of minutes from the central station and bus station, yet far enough away to be peaceful at night. The hotel is very clean and provides excellent breakfasts with a good choice of food. We eat out of the hotel every night but found Sorrento a lively and interesting place. Use public transport rather than coach tours!

My only complaint about the hotel was that our room wasn't the quietest as we were located beside the lifts and stairs (so beware if your room number ends in 01). Apart from that, this was an excellent hotel, especially the location which is very central. I would definitely stay there again.

An excellent hotel within easy walking distance of Tasso Piazza. All the staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. The food and service in the restaurant was excellent. Many of the guests had returned may times. We were there to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. I had telephoned beforehand to arrange flowers for the room and we had a magnificent display at a reasonable cost. The public areas are a little dated and we heard the rooms on the 3rd and 4th floors were in need of renovation, but our room on 2nd floor was large and spotlessly clean with a lovely view over the Bay of Naples to Vesuvius. We would have no hesitation in returning to this hotel.

I actually go upgraded and stayed in their sister hotel - the Grand Hotel Royal! It was absolutely fantastic - with a perfect view of the bay of Naples! Outstanding service and great breakfast. The only downside was that the bar claosed strictly at 1am -which i suppose was not the end of the world. I did see into the de la ville and it looked lovely too. The Royal was also very central - all in all the perfect honeymoon hotel!

I booked my accommodation at De La Ville however when we arrived at the hotel, we were directed to another hotel nearby, due to some hydro problem. So the above ratings are for "The Grand Hotel Royal". I understand that the Royal is similar if not higher category and we were very comfortable staying at the Royal. We had some difficulty finding the hotel, but the son of the owner met us and led us to the hotel. The hotel was very lovely and the view from our room was magnificent. Breakfasts (included in the price) were great. While most of the service staff were really quite polite and efficient, the hotel management's attitude to Americans appeared to be quite under par. We never received our telephone messages and front desk managers often appeared to be irritated when we approached them for concierge types of assistance. Considering the price point for this hotel, we expected to be catered to with a bit more class.

A very enjoyable short break in a pleasant Hotel. The staff were friendly, the buffet breakfast was good, the pool reasonable. The Hotel is not too far from the centre of town and reasonably handy for the station / bus terminal. Only 3 minor points detracted: 1) No kettle in room - if you're a tea addict like my wife, bring your own! 2) Bar closed just before midnight one evening, limiting availability of tea. 3) Although room was clean and reasonably well appointed with good view, the cupbords / draws were slightly shabby. Would go again (with supply of tea & travelling kettle).
