We booked what we understood to be a sea-view balcony room for Euro 135, which I thought was expensive, but worth it for a sea view. We arrived and were given a tiny room with a view of a sports field with a soccer game going on. We had to pay an addtional Euro 65 for the sea-view balcony room. There was also a charge for WiFI, which I understood to be included. The hotel staff was not particularly nice about the mix-up. On my reservation form, I stated I wanted a sea-view balcony room. Since I apparantly booked the wrong thing, they should have e-mailed me to clarify and given me the option to book something more reasonably priced.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Ambasciatori! The hotel, rooms and common areas are lovely, old world charm! We unfortunately were not able to have dinner in the dining room as we did not bring anything other than casual clothes and they request proper attire for the dining room in the evening. It would have been nice if this was mentioned on the website so that we could have packed appropriately. We enjoyed our breakfasts in the dining room with a spectacular view of the bay!! We will definitely be returning in the near future, we loved the hotel and Sorrento!

Ambasciatori Hotel is in the first row on the rocks of Sorrento. The view of the coastal line and the Vesuvio from the big garden terrace is amazing. I recommend to book a room to the garden side (second cheapest price categorie). Our room was very tastefully furnished, had a balcony with Vesuvio and seaside view. Dinner at the hotel was a bit disappointing and too expensive for what you get.

Four wonderful days in this hotel rated 4 stars, but much better than many 5 stars hotels. We had two excellent dinners at the hotel restaurant for a very cheap price. We will visit this hotel again in the near future.

Beautiful hotel with fantastic views. Wonderful 'beach' and the pool area is breathtaking with lemon trees and views of the Bay of Naples. Breakfast was the best I have ever had in Europe let alone Italy. We stayed in a Superior Room which was lovely and had views of the pool and bay.

Hotel's garden and swimming pool area was lovely with wonderful view to the sea and port. Breakfast was great: there was cook making omelettes and fried eggs of your choice! Best breakfast which I have seen in Italian hotels. There was some noise because of bands playing some nights but usually it was quite quiet place. We had double classic room and it was ok, small balcony to the garden and fine decoration. Situation of this hotel wasn't so good because of there wasn't many restaurants near hotel. So it was little bit heavy to walk to the center when we were tired after long day. Food in hotel's dinner restaurant wasn't so good and it was quite pricey. But lunch-restaurant's pizzas and pastas was tasty. Drink's prices in the pool bar was too high. Anyway I recommed this hotel! Good quality.

Our biggest disappointment was that the seaside deck was not open. It should be noted that this is a seasonal option. It was one of the reasons we booked this hotel. There are beautiful gardens at the top of the cliffs with spectacular views.

Our 5-day stay was absolutely wonderful. I am always a little skeptical about booking over the internet, as things are not always as they seem. But, in this case, it was better. The employees were great, and friendly as well as very helpful. The ONLY negative was at check-in (I arrived at 1:45 p.m.) and was told that the rooms were normally not available until 4:00 p.m. I showed them my receipt from the hotel stating that rooms were available anytime after 12:00 p.m. I was then shown immediately to my room. My wife and I stayed 5 nights and hated to leave. We certainly hope to return soon. The breakfast is wonderful with fantastic view over the Bay of Naples. Many have mentioned the long walk to the center of town, but we found this to really be a short walk, and a very nice one especially when you go through the park. Carla at the front desk was really a jewel, always smiling.

We had a wonderfull stay in one of the sea view rooms. The service was very good and the respons to any needs quick. The private "beach" was good and it look there were enough chairs and parasols for everybody. The hotel is in a quiet position, but within safe and easy walking distance to the city center. It's should be a safe choice for anyone who is looking for a relaxing and comfortable holiday. Party people, on the other hand, should go for something else. In general I would recommend staying in Sorrento to the Amalfi coast if you want to use the hotel as a base for sightseeing rather than just a beach holiday. The trafic problems on the Amalfi side of the peninsula makes going around on a daily basis reather anoying.

The first time we stayed at this Hotel and on the whole it was an excellent hotel and we had a great time. We went in the low season and found it comfortable but I don't think I would go there in the high season. Food in the bar was very good but less so in the restaurant, a fresh fruit dessert consisted of a whole pear, apple and orange, not very imaginative. Lovely view of the Bay of Naples from the balcony of our room.

The hotel was very pleasant to stay in. Not cheap but the quality was high. My wife and I stayed out of season (Easter 2008 which was particularly early, still in March) and so things like the swimming pool and the swimming area at the bottom of the cliffs were not available or practicable. It would have been nice to have visited the bottom of the cliffs to see it properly but it was locked away. The staff were very friendly and the room as quiet as can be expected - we had children next door who tended to wake up early and a storm kept me awake one night. The hotel is located just a few minutes walk from the 'heart of the action'. Overall, we would certainly recommend the hotel and would go back again.

We had a major problem on arrival, as the hotel granted us Room #208 which only has one window which opens at the bottom of a 5 or 6-storey deep small inner courtyard. So this room never sees natural light. When I instantly complained, the hotel management first answered this was a "standard room" -the rate which I had indeed booked. For the same rate, my friends has decent rooms, and I finally got one too, but only because I stood firmly by the reception, threatening of a making a fuss, and after the hotel mgt first offered me to move to another hotel for a 300 euros rate (vs 195 at Ambasciatori!) Room #208 is not decent for a hotel which boasts comfort and a hight category. It should NOT be sold as a "standard room" but declassified or not sold at all. The rest of our stay was OK. Very nice breakfast.

Our visit to Sorrento was the highlight of our travels throughout Italy. This was due in large part to the hotel being such a great palace to stay. The only drawback was the long walk to town but that would not stop me from recommending this hotel to any of my friends.

A bit pricy, but a very beautiful hotel. we enjoyed our stay and the private dock below was enjoyable. although a 10 minute walk into town, we thought the hotel and view was great. The hotel will arrange to have a private driver pick you up at the Naples train station and drive you to Sorrento... Well worth the extra cost.

What a lovely place. I strolled in the terrace to say goodbye in the evening, in the morning.... I dream of going back there. The only thing that could be better is the service at the restaurant. The young woman at the reception is very nice! But the men.... not as nice! My room was spaciousand clean, with a wonderful view of the gardens and the sea. I will definittly go back some day!

When we arrived we were given a much smaller room than we had ordered - only a partial sea view, twin beds instead of double, overlooking the next door hotel's pool. We asked for a better room and fortunately there was one available which was excellent. No apology was offered. General experience was good - bit disappointed in buffet breakfast and the tasteless coffee.

Despite some difficulties checking in - front desk somewhat helpful but seemed indifferent and lacking in warmth, poor parking facilities, especially for such an expensive hotel - the hotel itself is gorgeous with incredible view of the sea, its own private 'beach', beautiful and spacious rooms (the only hotel on our stay with a full bath), and fantastic public facilities (lounges, patios, etc...). Breakfast in the morning is a real treat - full hot and cold buffets with everything you could want. Weren't too thrilled with the location - it was a bit of a hike into the center of town, the sidewalks were also pretty narrow - but overall the hotel seemed to provide all the amenities you'd expect for the price. Would consider staying here again, but would definitely look into cheaper, more centrally located venues as well.

I found Franco and Americo very un-accomidating neither one of the men could make any decisons state it's not possible to most request made, there was no iron to use, we requested a room with 3 bed and one with 2 beds the request went on deaf ears, it was always blamed on Venere as to why a request could not be handled, i don't agree to being charged 5 euro's to sit on the beach for service when the hotel was very expensive as it was. although they had sky tv there was no english channels at all, we were given rooms with out a view and charged full price we were also given 1 room that should have been a linen closet, although a very nice hotel I would not stay there again and I have already made reconmations to friends, family and Travel agents not to stay there, buyer be ware

Even though I'm sure that there must be other hotels as good as the Ambasciatori I would find it hard to believe. I asked for a large room with a balcony and a view of the Bay of Naples and a large bed(full or queen) We received a wonderful room with a king size bed; a larger than most balconies with a breath taking view. For those who would like the same - the room # was 609. The front desk managers where more than helpful. They provided us with everything we asked for. We request the same driver that met us at the train terminal in Naples to guide us around Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast and we couldn't have been more satified. His name is Raffael(sorry for the spelling). He spoke English and he lived in Sorrento. Hiring him was one of the best decisions we made. The Italian breakfast was wounderful. The dining room had a great view. I could go one for ever about The Hotel Ambasciatori. We will stay the next time as well. Room 609 here we come. Thanks to the The Hotel Ambasciatori and Venere.com.

I enjoyed my stay in Sorrento, and in truth, enjoyed the hotel. My number 1 priority is the cleanliness of the rooms and the property and I feel this hotel misses on those criteria. The ammenities in the room were sparse and when they were empty, they were never replaced. I found the staff to be efficient but cold, not friendly, The one exception was the bartender, he made the stay more enjoyable. The property is close to a hit, but just misses on several fronts. The potential is there for a first class hotel...improvement needed.

My husband and I both thought the hotel was lovely. The staff consistently helpful and pleasant thoughout our week stay -- whether we were asking about travel information to nearby sites of interest or they were just serving a meal. I had selected the Ambasciatori, in part, because it was both in Sorrento AND had a large, quiet garden for those times when we wanted to get away from the heat and noise of the city. It was the perfect choice. The "beach" area is nicely planted with an arbor over the little restaurant and the garden on the hotel level is beautifully done with lots of places to sit and eat or sit and drink or sit and sunbath or just sit. The room was 4 star and everything worked (unlike the 5 star hotel to which we then went) The breakfast was a very full buffet with lots of hot and cold choices. It was served inside and outside -- overlooking the bay and with a clear view of Vesuvius. The dinner was OK, but not memorable -- a good choice for the first night, but not multiple nights. Most of the guests were British (80-85%)

We could not have been more impressed and happy with the wonderful Hotel Ambasciatori: with its cheerful, helpful and always competent staff. Not to mentino the fabulous room they gave us -- with its amazing views overlooking the Gulf of Naples. Just heavenly! This was without a doubt the BEST HOTEL we have ever stayed in. Not a single complaint. The staff were incredibly helpful and obliging. The location superb. And as for the breakfasts.... we're still dreaming of them. (To say that they're plentiful and delicious is an understatement.) We certainly intend to go back again -- as soon as possible. Thank you Hotel Ambasciatori for making our trip so memorable and -- just PERFECT!

We stayed for three days at the end of April. Our only disappointment was that the pool was unheated and the sea, while warmer than the pool, was inaccessible. Apparently the hotel doesn't open its "beach front" until May 1. This fact was not made available on the website and was a big disappointment. We did love the hotel and its setting and would highly recommend it.

Overall this was an excellent hotel! The view is breath taking, the grounds immaculate, the pricing accurate and worth its value. The rooms I would say are closer to satisfactory outside of the the view. This is because the top floor's rooms are a bit dated with the 70's type decor and it smelled dingy. It took a couple of days to air it out. Otherwise they were roomier than the other places we stayed in Italy. I would reccommend this to anyone!!

The Ambasciatori was one of the most beautiful hotels and locations we visited in Italy. It is a little "pricey" but they are extremely professional, service oriented and responsive. Even prior to our arrival they were extremely helpful and responsive. I highly recommend the hotel and this is an excellent jump off point to visit Pompei and other sites in the area. Sunset in Sorrento should not be missed!!
