Art Hotel Gran Paradiso - Sorrento

The hotel room was quite large and the view was beautiful.However The staff was not particularly knowledgeable and the restaurant for dinner was not good although breakfast was very enoyable. The wait staff was very good particularly Guissippi The problem was the location. Although they had a shuttle bus it was not frequent enough and if you had to take a taxi it was very expensive.

We enjoyed our stay. The front desk staff was very helpful and we appreciated having a shuttle available to take us to and from town. Breakfast was very good and the gentleman who served was a true professional.

We absolutely loved this hotel! the quality of service was fantastic, and very professional. We would especially want to thank the front desk clerk Angela, she was very patient with the many questions we had and was very helpful at recommending a great restaurant for us to eat. I can't say enough about her, she was warm gracious and she really made our stay pleasurable. The hotel itself is very clean, and the decor is very nice. The view of the Amalfi coast from our room balcony and from the pool deck were breath-taking. Just a warning to anyone that it is driving themselves to the hotel...its high up on a cliff and the road to get up there is very narrow. The shuttle bus into town was very convenient since we didnt have to use our car the whole time we were there (it would be a long walk down into town). Our only regret was that we only stayed 1 night. we would return in a heartbeat and would recommend it to anyone.

Very nice and friendly hotel, and the view over the bay was magnificent! The shuttle bus connection was good, although it could have been more often, especially in the evening.

The staff were extremely helpful and the dining room staff was great. I would recommend the view rooms as the only way to stay.

We stayed at the Gran Paradiso for 6 nights on a B&B basis - Venere didn't offer the option for half board which would have been a better option given the hotel's location and reliance on the free bus to get into Sorrento. We booked a twin room/sea view but had to sort that out on arrival (Venere - you need to get that problem sorted!!) ending up with a twin on the side of the hotel (overlooking the car park with a tiny balcony) but still with a sea view. The Gran Paradiso's location gives spectacular views of Vesuvius across the Bay of Naples but meant having to rely on the free bus service (or 20 Euros for a taxi) to get to/from town. The buffet style breakfast was good and the Gala Dinner was excellent. Staff were very friendly and helpful and service was excellent.

The restaurant staff and food are very good. Reception staff not very friendly and there are no facilities other than the pool (it rained one day -absolutely nothing to do). Snack lunch available from approx 12 to 2 every day. Miss that, you don't eat - and the hotel is miles from anywhere else so there's no alternative. Some people were able to get sandwiches outside of the snack times, but we were refused this service when we asked at 3 pm. The hotel is at the top of a steep hill, and although there is a courtesy bus into town and back, bus times are not regular between midday and late afternoon, and the last bus back at night is 11.00 pm. We did not eat dinner in the hotel, so had to make sure we had finished our meal in town at night in time to race back for the bus. Alternative was a 20 Euro taxi fare back to the hotel. Bus is not available at all on "Gala night" - if you're not on a half board basis at the hotel, you either have to pay an extra 30 Euros per person to join the Gala night meal, or pay for a taxi to town and back to eat in town. I stay in hotels all over the world on business, and can compare this with many others. This hotel markets itself as top class, but is not backing that up with service and facilities. Room was clean and adequate but shower door was dangerous - hanging on one hinge. Disappointing - hotel spoiled my holiday.

We enjoyed our stay at the Gran Paradiso. The staff were helpful when we needed help or asked questions. It was great to have a shuttle to take you to the train/bus station in Sorrento. The food in the restaurant was excellent and the staff friendly. We definetly would book this hotel again.

We loved the magnificent veiw across the bay to Naples and Vesuvius. There are a good variety of shops and restaurants in Sorrento along with a close proximity to the intregueing ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum. The courtesy bus was very efficient.
