We had to be at Malpensa airport at 5 a.m. We picked Tre Lioni because of the 24 hr shuttle. The 4:30 a.m. shuttle was prompt and 10 euro for the two of us. We took a local train from Milan to Somma Lombardo and the Hotel is a couple of short blocks down from the train station. The room was modern, clean, and well decorated. We had a thoroughly enjoyable meal in the restaurant. It is clearly where the locals eat.

Nice hotel. A very quick walk from the train station. We ate in the restaurant downstairs and the food was good and the price was reasonable. I would stay here again. The shuttle ride to the airport was 10 minutes and right on time.

Would only recommend as a last resort if you have an early morning flight, that otherwise would be impossible to make on time. This hotel was rated as three stars but it would make any one night stop motels on U.S.A. highways seen like four and five star hotels.

You stay here to be close to the airport, but this hotel is 15 minutes from Malpensa down twisty little Italian roads, around round-abouts, thru towns, on and off of the Autostrada. Actually, there are more signs to find the airport than to find the hotel. Their airport shuttle is a bit pricey, but if you are not really comfortable driving, it might be worth it. We found the restaurant to be quite nice, but the room was very basic, and it would seem the building is designed to magnify every sound all night long. We missed our wake-up call because we had to wear earplugs to sleep at all. We made our 7:50 a.m. flight, but we had been driving on little backroads for three weeks. Also, we did a dry run to the airport the afternoon before. Next time I think I will take a flight that departs later.

I had my confirmation paperwork because upon our arrival they had no record of our reservation. They scrambled to accommodate us. From the reservation website I thought an airport shuttle was available free to hotel guests but we were charged for the shuttle. I have been too busy to go back onto the Venere website to see if it clearly states there is a fee for the shuttle service.

They offered wake up call, but did not do it. However, when we called for specific directions they were most helpful. Just a noisy night and our windo was on the front street.

The hotel was located in the center of Somma Lombardo which wasn't a problem as it was a pleasant moderate-sized town in Lombardy. Considering that it is a "Malpensa" local hotel, the town was interesting with a neat castle as we drove in; also located very near Lago Maggiore and the beautiful Ticino River (Fiume Ticino) (we arrived early afternoon so spent a lovely afternoon driving up to the Alps and back (left Somma at 3 pm - back to Somma by 8 pm). The restaurant was excellent with traditional Lombardy cuisine. The room was comfortable but I must say that there was a strong smell of cigarette smoke in the room; easily dissipated with opening the window. The breakfast was traditionally Italian B & B fare though plentiful with a server bringing coffee-to-order to your table. I would recommend this hotel to anyone needing access in or out of Malpensa; actually, I think I would have enjoyed staying there for a longer stay as well.

Our only complaint, really, is that we had a smoking room. Make sure you ask for a non-smoking room if you can't stand the stench of stale cigarette smoke. The staff was quite competent and friendly. The shuttle is not complementary, cost 13 euros, but the gentleman driving was on-time and very helpful. The location is great if you are arriving by train, although the train was a bit of a hassle; it's like taking the commuter rail at rush hour.

The reception we received was strange as they asked my wife and i if we wanted 2 rooms even though we had a clear booking in hand. The room was not very clean with clear evidence of previous occupiers. The facilities though were what was advertized and the proximity to the airport was fine. The restaurant was also of good quality.

From the train station you must take a bus 32 km to the Malpensa Airport, where you then proceed to the taxi pick-up area at the arrival portion of the airport(downstairs). Our cab driver had never heard of the Tre Leoni and didn't speak English; my Italian-speaking is not good yet. Once we got across the idea that Tre Leoni is in the Somma Lombardo area, he knew where to head. Thank God the Tre Leoni has signs out along the way letting you know you are getting closer - the cab driver still got lost....There was street and sidewalk repair ongoing during late June when we were there - it goes on all day until 7p.m. or so - very noisy! The hotel manager took my passport and did not return it until we left the following morning...so we stayed at the hotel and had dinner at the very excellent restaurant on the premises. You must dine there and enjoy some of the region's local wine as well. The shower was small, but worked well, and there was a great ceiling fan and air conditioning as well. If you are just passing through the Milan area as my daughter and I were, this is a wonderful place to stay because of its proximity to the airport. The food is worth the trip alone! There is an elevator, by the way. The beds were very comfortable, and the staff did speak a fair amount of English.

Given that the room provided had a malfunctioning air-conditioning unit, and the telephone did not work, we were obliged to switch rooms. The only room available had much smaller beds and was in every way inferior to the original - but cost the same despite our protests. Since we had no transport, there was little possibility of changing hotel so we stayed on. The food was not bad in the restaurant and to our amazement, the airport shuttle left on time, depositing us rather too early at the airport. For a night it was survivable, but I would not spend two nights there.

Hotel is in a run-down area of town, trash-strewn streets, little to do ro see Hotel room is sparse to say the least Bathroom shower was smaller than a phone booth Bathroom had mold growing in it Bathroom window had to have a roll of toilet paper (they installed) to hold it open Bedroom window had to have a stick to hold it open Lobby reaked of cigarette smoke and the TV was always on Locals/Friends hung out in lobby and smoked and drank watching TV TV was on in restaurant The airport shuttle (illuded to be "included") was 26Euro for two one-way All in all ... lousy place to stay!

We were disappointed in the quality of the room, given the cost of the room. It was small. The towels were minimal. And the shower was barely large enough to stant in (and we are not overweight). The dinner we had was one of the three worst meals we had in 3 weeks in Italy. The breakfast was not much better. The only good reason for staying there is proximity to the airport.

The Tre Leoni was a little difficult to find; northbound from Milan, we left the autostrada at the first exit that mentioned Somma Lombardo, and it was quite a while before we reached Sempione Street. But the map is accurate as far as the small area it depicts, and the hotel really is just ten minutes from Malpensa Terminal 1. On checking in, the reception wanted to "keep" our passports for a while before turning them back to us; they should understand that this makes visitors uneasy. Other hotels had dealt with the passports right in front of us. The rooms were clean, but the bedspreads were quite shabby and the chairs in the corridors badly needed reuphostering. After seeing a big lunch crowd at the hotel's restaurant, we decided to dine there for dinner. We enjoyed our meal very much (risotto). The owner, who had checked us into the hotel earlier, sent a bottle of wine to our table with the remark, "Buon giorno". He spoke little English and we, less Italian; we surmised that, since we had a very early flight the next morning and would miss breakfast, he was sending us the wine as compensation. We tried to settle our bill that evening, but he insisted that we do it next morning at 4:30a.m., when we left for the airport. Sleep-deprived, we mistakenly authorized charges for 116 euros nightly, when the reservation had guaranteed the rate of 110 euros. (seems we did pay for that wine). Tre Leoni's value lies in its convenience to the airport, its nice restaurant, and its great shuttle service. The cheerful and helpful driver not only delivered us to Malpensa at 4:30a.m.; he also had picked us up at Malpensa the evening before so that we could return the rental car while the agency was open.

We stayed at Tre Leoni because of proximity to MXP airport; we had to be at MXP at 05:00 for early flight. Hotel has reliable airport van which ended up costing total extra of $US 36 (with an expected tip) for two 5 KM rides (from and to MXP). Room was clean and comfortable, but considerable street noise even with closed window. Internet terminal in the lobby which did not have posted price; cost $US 10 for about 10 minutes of use. Resturant has good food, but a bit pricy. Breakfast was included in price, but not available for early departure. (Alternatives for early flights are limited.)

This hotel is convenient and acceptable for short overnight stays on the way to/from Milan Malpensa airport, but giving it 3 stars is a stretch and it was overpriced. Our double room was clean, but the bathroom was dingy. The hallway was exceedingly dingy, however, to the point of feeling seedy.

Hotel Tre Leoni is a nice place with decent quality rooms and facilities. The people are all very nice. The restaurant is great. The hotel is very noisy, the rooms are not at all sound-proofed, and the wood floors in the halls echo and multiply a high noise level. Guests are loud (not unexpected in a small town in Italy, but also all of the restaurant noise echoes through the building - there are no separating doors, or if there are, they're not used. (Some thick carpeting and a couple of doors would make a big difference.) It seemed a bit over-priced compared to other hotels with similar amenities. However, the people are great, the breakfast very good, and the convenience for those flying into or out of Malpensa airport are well worth it.

The hotel seemed expensive for the size of the room. The shower was particularly small. However, I found the same things at other hotels on my trip so this may be a general problem in Italy. The shuttle for the airport was not free, which was an additional unexpected expense. The restaurant was quite good and was a good value. The staff spoke English, which I appreciated. Staying at an airport hotel was a great convenience since Milan is a long way from the airport. The hotel is walking distance from a commuter train to Milan which takes about 80 minutes.

Shuttle to airport was very quick as promised, and driver is charming and friendly. Getting a taxi from the airport is a different story, as most Milan cab drivers are not familiar with the Somma Lombardo area. It's a good idea to come with map and directions handy. Restaurant is nice, breakfast offers quite a variety. Hotel staff are competent and speak English fluently. Rooms are a bit small, but clean. I wouldn't rate the Tre Leoni as a 3 star, but overall it was a pleasant stay.

This is what one would expect for a hotel near the airport. I would guess that there average stay is 1.1 days. Their goal is to get as much money from the traveller knowing it is not likely that they will return. The one thing that irritated me the most is that there was a "cover charge" of 3 euro with the meal. This was a typical nothing special restaurant with no entertainment. I would wager that the locals do not pay this charge. Another thing is the large extra fee for a ride to the airport that is only about 3 K away. The bathroom was dirty and the shower imposible to use. Decortation was spartan. If I come this way again I will pay more and chose a different hotel. On the plus side - some of the hotel staff were nice.

The website and email indicated there was a shuttle from the hotel - "please call us from the airport and we will pick you up". Which we did; it took them half an hour to come (there were plenty of regular taxis immediately available). When we came to pay our bill of 103 euro, as expected, we were charged 129 euro: the extra 26 euro were for the taxi! I don't know how much a regular taxi would have cost (15 minute drive), but this was very annoying and there was no way I could "prove" we had been promised a free shuttle, which was one of the reasons I chose this hotel. The accomodations were quite run down, the fan didn't work so we had to leave the windows open, increasing the noise level. The TV didn't receive any English language station.

The hotel staff was very accommodating. One deciding factor in staying here was the promise of on-site parking. The desk clerks each moved other vehicles to allow our car to park in front of the hotel, once when we checked in and later that evening when we returned from dinner. We booked this hotel to be close to Malpensa airport as our flight home departed in the morning. It is very convenient to the airport, about 5 minutes away. We also learned the hotel has its own van and will pick up and drop off guests who phone when they arrive. It is about 20 minutes from Lake Maggiore, and we drove up to Arona, a lake town, for dinner and had a wonderful evening. I would definitely stay here again. The rooms are okay, not on par with any U.S. hotel, but not many European hotels are, unless you're talking $300+/night or more. But that's okay if you're only using this to be near the airport, or if you can't find a hotel in downtown Milan and need to get up and back for a few days (business travelers might find this acceptable). I would rate this hotel very good for what it is. (I would rate a hotel such as Villa d'Este "excellent".)

There is a hidden charge of extra 31% comparing to the rates shown on the Website. In addition to 83 euros for a single room I was charged extra 26 euros for the shuttle service from/to airport Malpenza. The hotel's management called this service "a taxi service" versus the "shuttle service" shown on the website. They told me that regular taxi would cost me more since the hotel is located far from Malpenza. All hotels reservations made through the Malpenza airport hotel reservation service include shuttle service, so you know in advance what is the real price of the room. On my way to the hotel from the airport the driver first drove me from the terminal 1 to the terminal 2 where we should wait for other passengers, so it definitely cannot be consideres as "a taxi". The price for this service is absolutely unreasonable. If the Tre Leoni claims itself to be a "Malpenza hotel", the fact that it is located far away is a disadvantage, and should be paid for by the hotel, not by the customer. The normal price for the EXTRA ROUND TRIP for two persons does not exceed 15 euros. This and the fact that my room was really smelly with the smell of an old furniture made me to cancel my reservation on my way back. Upon arrival to Milano I booked an hotel room through the airport agency which gave me a really clean and nice hotel,, and there were absolutely no hidden charges there.

We were very disappointed in the Tre Leoni. You know you've picked the wrong hotel when taxi drivers don't want to go that far from the airport. The rooms were rather shabby, as was the overall appearance of the hotel. The noise level in the rooms was terrible. Not only could we hear everyone else in the hotel, we could hear very thing in the parking lot of the apartment building next door. The price for this undesirable 3 star hotel was only 6 Euros less than the very nice 4 star hotel we stayed at in Naples! Thank goodness we only used this hotel for one night.

We were very disappointed that they overbooked and gave us one less room than we requested (we requested 4 and got 3 rooms)without contacting us. We were picked up by their van but the driver got confused and thought we were another party and took us to another one of their properties. What was supposed to be a 5 minute ride from the airport took 50 minutes--defeating the purpose of staying near the airport. To top it off, a cosmetic bag was left in the room after our stay and we contacted them to get it returned. They said they had it and would ship it out. We called a week later to find out why we hadn't received it and they knew nothing about it and didn't seem to care to find out--clearly it was stolen by an employee. A pretty big disppointment overall....

The hotel was convenient to Malpensa, the rooms were clean and comfortable (though a bit overpriced), and the staff was helpful and accomodating. The restaurant provided good food. Unfortunately, there were guests in an adjoining room who preferred to talk and yell throughout the night instead of sleeping, or at least allowing those of us who preferred to sleep do so. Repeated pleas for quiet by those of us on the floor did no good. A few calls to the front desk provided brief respites of quiet, but only briefly. By the time sleep did arrive, so did the morning and street noise woke me up again. Bring earplugs and you'll enjoy the stay.

The bad news is: The hotel was clearly overcharging for the room, the rack rate on the card behind the door specified 42 to just over 60 euros, adding various meal options brought the total to just over 80 euros. The "Internet Special" booking through venere.com was 103 euros, and the hotel attempted to add another 25 euros for the airport shuttle, even though I had my own car. Parking was either on-street (good luck), or one of the four restaurant spaces (I got one by biding my time while illegally parked.) The ensuite shower stall was miniature even by Italian standards, but did have working hot and cold water. The hotel is very noisy, it seemed that every conversation on all three guest floors (plus the street outside) was going on in our room. It did quiet down by 1am or so. Wake-up calls were offered, but didn't happen - we had to wakeup the night clerk when we left around 5am. To sum up, if the room had been in the 40 - 60 euro range I would have had a fair idea of what I was getting into and it would have been acceptable. For over 100 euros it was a rip-off, but it was clean and we did catch our early morning flight from Malpensa.

This hotel was rated as a 3 star. It would be stretching it to rate this hotel as a 2 star. The staff was rude and argumentative and charged us more than what we were guaranteed on the confirmation. The walls were paper thin, the beds were very small and bedspreads were not clean. The small bathroom had mildew in the shower. We had to use the hair dryer to heat the room, and spent the night listening to someone fighting in another room below us. Had difficulty placing calls from the room as well. The hotel also tried to charge us for 2 double rooms, when we used only 1 double room and then became bulligerent when we refused to pay for a room we did not use. The only person that was nice was the shuttle bus driver. Even if you paid me, I would NEVER stay at this hotel again.
